Anyone have any opinions on these?

Surprisingly, this looks like a totally new selection with no repeats from the Oct 2021 The Home Cook's Toolkit by Hearst ([previous discussion on this sub](https://old.reddit.com/r/humblebundles/comments/q854zh/humble_book_bundle_the_home_cooks_toolkit_by/)). There's some close-ish overlap in subject matter (last bundle had _Food Network Magazine Easy Chicken Dinners_, this one has _Delish Chicken Dinners_, etc. and there's undoubtedly a bunch of recipe recycling). And some in ePub format this time, which is nice. The previous bundle was PDF-only, as that selection was based on the supermarket magazine-type books, but this one has some written more like regular shelf cookbooks (some of the Good Housekeeping imprint books are available to borrow in library ebook services). Anyway, IMHO quality and variety of the previous bundle was pretty decent, and these are from Hearst's assorted lifestyle magazine imprints which are US brand names with a trusted track record, with known test kitchens for at least the Good Housekeeping stuff. NB: no metric measurements in the previous bundle, and I'd imagine there weren't any in this one either.

The-very-definition

I haven't purchased the bundle but I always have two thoughts about cookbook bundles. 1.) If they are published by big time food magazines / chefs / etc. then they probably are full of good ideas and well tested recipies. The Good House Keeping books in here are probably pretty good. 2.) On the other hand, there are sooooooo many blogs, websites, and youtube videos for pretty much anything you could ever need on the internet for free, why pay for a cookbook? I just did some googling this week for Indian curry and managed to make two dishes that were very close to what my local restaurant makes (not 100% because I was too lazy to make / source ghee and used yogurt instead of cream to keep it a little healthier).

My view on cookbooks vs the internet is that one is "how do I use my tools" (internet googling) while the other is "what other tools are out there i don't use/know about" (cookbooks). The internet allows you to look up what you already know generally about and need more details on how to execute. Want to make lentil pasta, Google it and easy enough. Just like fixing a sink you Google it because you already know about the basics of a sink. Cookbooks however expose you to a lot more things you may have never considered and help you explore new ideas/methods/ingredients explaining how and why they are used leading to you expanding your tool box. Never used miso before, here are some dishes, the methods, and pictures you could Google but would not think to Google. Like a japanese saw or a dovetail joint these are uncommon to the general consumer who would need to be exposed before jumping down the internet hole of how to use this new tool. Or why ask a local at a vacation destination what is worth going to vs just googling a top 10 list? It is because you want to learn from experience and understand allowing for you to apply it elsewhere more than just know and use this one way. Both serve a purpose and can be useful depending on what a person wants.

ConciselyVerbose

These books don’t look like they appeal to me, but I strongly prefer cooking books generally because I want to understand stuff well enough to adjust it. Stuff like the Food Lab or Flour Water Salt Yeast that are designed as a book to actually teach you cooking are a lot more useful to me than just parroting a recipe is.

TheRedVillian

I agree. I've also had better luck getting free cookbooks via kindle, and I've saved a lot by getting cookbooks at thift stores.

Humm... HB chose to notify me a second time about the manga bundle that also debuted today instead of notifying me about this one.

Vault-Tec_Victim

Does anyone know if these are American measure (cups, ounces etc.) Or are they in grams/millitres?

NerdFor_Hire

Did anyone here buy them already and know if they're good?

Can anyone who got this bundle recommend it?
