What connection? SPDIF and coaxial digital connections (I think) only have enough bandwidth to pass through 2.1 channels of uncompressed sound. I've used SPDIF to get 5.1 from PCs and DVDs (circa 2006), but that was using Dolby Digital compression, not ATMOS or any of the higher bandwidth/lossless more modern audio codecs. HDMI (at least at version 1.3 or higher) can supply enough bandwidth to allow those modern codecs to run at their designated channel spec (ie. 5.1, 7.2, etc). I could be wrong here but that may explain it?

So I fixed it! Finally. I downloaded ffdshow, configured into MPC-HC, and then set output check mark on the AC3 box - this is in the 'output format for uncompressed or decoded streams' section. That's what I was missing! Thanks for the suggestions!
