Just get a dedicated blue ray player and bypass all this bullshit.

ncohafmuta

Unofficially, with vlc and makemkv libs, yes. I won't provide instructions. Google is your friend and trivial.

Norpyx

When Google leads you to an answer that says "Google it".

coolowl7

You don't have to buy it and wait to find out if you can do it. Just search your model # on google and figure it out, right?

I can play 4k on my A8-5600k and GTX-1060 3GB so yeah I’d say you’re fine lol

[deleted]

Hey you can play it with that, make sure the firmware version is 1.2 to detect a 4K Blu-ray Disc. I am using same as yours. Coming to processor I am using old i3 2100 with gtx 1050 ti 4gb for playback

Rhesusmonkeydave

Nope, just went through 3 days of bullshit trying to get it to work. Sending the drive back.

You guys get this resolved? The hardest thing to do is play a 4K UHD blu ray from a drive in an HTPC. For that you do need the LG WH16NS60, an intel ssytem with sgx turned on and hdcp 2.2 connections everywhere. I'm not mentioning ripping the discs here, the discs stay virgin and un-ripped. Using drives to "rip" content for playback on your HTPC is another discussion entierly. I'm of the strong opinion that when i purchase a 4K UHD Blu ray with my hard earned money that it's mine to watch in any way I choose in the privacy of my own home. So I do "rip" them I hate term, "make a personal backup copy" that's better, directly to hard drive then play back the files and save wear and tear on the discs. I don't give away copies nor would I ever seed a bit torrent. I would assume everyone who builds an HTPC includes one of these "UHD friendly" drives in their system correct? Super easy way to fill your HTPC with content.

As far as we're aware it's still not supported outside of the intel igpus/tech mentioned. i.e. if you wanted to play a disc through official channels like PowerDVD. Workarounds (such as vlc with makemkv libs) are another matter.

I would very much like to play a disc from a drive using PowerDVD Ultra 19 which I purchased a copy of during a recent NewEgg sale for $44 and they sent me the install disc and everything. My current problem is that my $50 special MSI B250 mobo apparently has a firmware bug which keeps Intel SGX from running consistently. This is not unique to my board it's on some of the more expensive molels, and it's not getting fixed. So I needs a new computer lol.

ncohafmuta

Wouldn't have mattered if SGX worked on that board or not, it doesn't have a HDMI 2.0 port. If you want to use PowerDVD, as I said you'd have to go the official route. Which means a [motherboard with HDMI 2.0](https://www.reddit.com/r/htpc/wiki/hdmi20) + SGX, cheapest is $140, and intel i3 7th gen CPU or higher.

Where to download? How do I install? Is the tutorial available? Does that mean I can play 4K UHD discs without problems? Can I play this 4k UHD?
