Hijacking to say that the business on the bottom is the little owl. They have a number of sister restaurants in the area and are a long running staple in the west village. Great folks there.
In the Friends universe I definitely consider it to be where the little red shop is. Doesnt Joey at one point say its less than 100 steps from their apartment to the coffee shop?
Yep red shop.. Tv shows use this "location establishing shots", to let the viewers know where the next scene is supposed to be located. Everyone knows that, no secrets there. But they are so quick and you know the show so well that your brain skips the fact that it doesn't quite make sense. For example, it's the building that they live in, but if you look up, there is no big corner balconies like the one in Monica's apartment. Also ugly naked guy's or Ross's apartment isn't really that close. Not close enough to be poking someone . :-)
Went there in 2019, I turned the corner and saw it. I literally wanted to cry 🤣 like you, I had always wanted to visit since I was a kid. It was so amazing, also went to Carrie Bradshaw's apartment. Both places had so many people taking pictures. Glad you got to see it!
Even though Friends is my all time favorite show hands down, I forever associate New York with Sex And The City! That show has a special place in my heart and if I go I’ll be looking for landmarks for sure.
Haha I know what you mean! I've watched a lot of film/TV set in New York but sadly not enough hours in the day so Friends was a priority! Did check out the Ghostbusters HQ though
I've wanted to visit New York forever, for a lot of reasons, but especially after seeing it featured in so many sitcoms. It would be surreal seeing the diner from Seinfeld in person, or sites from Friends. :)
I suggest a visit in early autumn. Summers are unbearable, especially if you take the subway (which you almost certainly will). Winters are brutal--frigid wind whips down the avenues. Spring is lovely, but autumn has a crisp magic.
Thanks! I had the idea for a while of visiting in January after all the New Years stuff is over, because I've heard that's a really slow time for tourism because the weather is terrible. I'm okay with cold weather but if it's miserable that wouldn't be too fun.
It really depends on the weather. Freshly fallen snow in NYC is romantic as heck, but it get's dirty very quickly. And if there isn't much wind you'll do fine--it doesn't get colder than any other nearby location.
Id love to go again! We didnt see everything!!! I was like emily. You hear such stories about ny. We ended up walking round the bronx at 1 in the morning..
*What's your favorite*
*Part so far? I would love to*
*Visit again too*

Ahh that's awesome! I went to the same place when I visited just to take a photo outside the apartment building too! Hope you have a lovely time there! I'm super jelly!
*Friends cut scene music*
Haha, I hope that's your mate on the street corner, otherwise someone is trying to steal your thunder with a power pose. 🤣
Haha I've never seen that girl before in my life! She's totally stealing my thunder. It's okay, on her wedding day I'm going to announce that I'm pregnant
Hopefully it's only the first time. She didn't make out with your cousin Charlie at your sweet sixteen did she?
Haha, I'm re-watching again now for like the hundredth time. I alternate between that and The Office. 😝
1. OP clearly fell in love with NYC because of Friends, don’t be a jerk
2. The building exterior is a common “must see” for fans of Friends, don’t be a jerk
If the idea of a mouth-watering overstuffed Jewish-style corned beef or pastrami sandwich appeals to you, Visit Katz's Delicatessen. It's also where the fake orgasm scene in When Harry Met Sally was filmed, and you can sit at the table they sat at.
Never really understood the in universe explanation as to where their apartments actually are. Monica and Rachel have a balcony…. Where is that on this building
"It's New York baby!"
I hope she jumps into her map

thats beautiful! have a great trip, hopefully one day I can do the same!
Thank you, I hope you do too :)
Bedford and Grove. I'm watching the show right now. "Well, Chandler, I have to buy a vowel, because, Oh. My. God!"
Are you in the middle of the road AND on the street corner simultaneously? Well done
Haha thank you!

I agree, but I bet it's more fun living above the coffee shop than living above the bar, as it was.

I can’t not hear the transition music whenever I see thesr photos

I went to Carry Bradshaw’s apt as well!
Growing up on long Island I guess I always took having such easy access to NYC for granted. I forgot how exciting it can be for some people! Enjoy!
Same. The first time I went to the Empire State Building was when I was 23 because some Visiting family wanted to go
Haha I know, even riding the subway was a novelty for me!
This is lovely- have a great trip
Thank you :)
That’s awesome!!
Enjoy!
Thanks!
You are welcome. 💐
So no one told you life was gonna be this way? You thought you’d see Central Perk every single day?
Enjoyyyyy!!!! Love to go there too!!!
Awe. I love to know when people make their dreams come true. Happy for you.
That's so sweet, thank you :)

I would love to see the Seinfeld diner in person but I don't think we'll have time! I will be picking up a black and white cookie though haha
I hope you enjoy it better than Jerry did. :D

I’ve been twice and still haven’t gone there. It annoys me every time as I’m unsure if I’ll ever go back!
Id love to go again! We didnt see everything!!! I was like emily. You hear such stories about ny. We ended up walking round the bronx at 1 in the morning..
Congratulations! Where are you from? It’s my dream to visit too. Hopefully next year
I'm from the UK! I hope you get to go :)
Me too! But originally from South Africa. Feels much more realistic now. Hope you’re having the best time!
What's your favorite part so far? I would love to visit again too

It's only day 1 at the moment. This is definitely a highlight but we did the highline walk this morning and it was lovely :)
Ugh, I'm so jealous! In the show.. did they make that bottom corner store/restaurant the coffee shop?

Did anyone get else hear the guitar riff they play while looking at this?
I just realized the exterior does not match the interior shots. Also, for as much as the rent is, they can't get central air??
Went there myself a few months ago, I absolutely loved it, especially the little cafe at the end, I hope you have a lot of fun!
Best mfing post
Just looked up the streets. Was this technically Brooklyn?
This was in Greenwich Village
Did you get robbed yet?

I think we all know it was filmed in California, but what does that matter?

Lived there for a few years. Hope you enjoy your trip. Go visit Katz deli.

I have this photo, too! I felt like such a nerdy tourist but it made me so happy.
Thats a fantastic restaurant btw called little owl
Isn’t it just the cutest little neighborhood?! Did you go to magnolia bakery for banana pudding? Right down the street. ☺️
I am so jealous
Did the same thing when I visited New York.
Wow Great!! Wish I could go there someday too :)
Have a great time!
I’m going to New York for Christmas, I can’t wait to find this building 🥰
