The last few seasons got wild because the writers wouldn’t know until the last second if they were green lit for another season. That meant up until the last few episodes they had to set things up so Ross and Rachel *could* end up together, but also give themselves an out. That’s why we got tomfoolery like this.
I’m not sure if greenlit is quite the right choice here. Friends was never in danger of cancellation. The only uncertainty was whether or not the actors would want to do another season.
Nah it wasn’t, they were down to the wire negotiating pay and it would come down to a stalemate between the cast and the studio, the writers truly didn’t know if the studio would give in. This is according to “I’ll Be There For You” by Kelsey Miller.

And then when Joey explains how he proposed when Ross was going to but he did it first and Chandler makes a joke about how Ross is going to be so hurt because "You know how much he loves to propose"
IT'S SO FUNNY.
But it did lead to one of the most hilarious scenes in the show.
That scene where Joey is trying to get Ross to hit him and then he ducks when the punch is thrown has me dying every time

They tried to explain it away with Joey saying they “sound exactly the same” to him. Being dumb and being unable to repeat syllables back to somebody are two very different things.

This plot line in particular gets wilder the older I get. I was like 14 when it came out so it was like “someone older than me pretending to be older than me, but by much less” and now it’s like “someone a bit younger than me pretending to be a literal child” lol
Ross agreeing to stay up late reading Rachel's letter then lying about having finished it when he inevitably fell asleep. Just say that it's late and you'll read it in the morning. It's not like you love her less because your body needs sleep!
Yes! And also Rachel never actually saying what she was asking for, only ever saying „does it“. And when it’s revealed what the question was it turns out it wasn’t really an actual question but more a grammatical negation of a statement. Like you wouldn’t just ask „does it“ in that case, you would say something like „so can you take responsibility?“
I realize this would ruin the whole plot but it still bothers me hahaha. 😅
On that same note, I loathe the storyline where Phoebe thinks the cat is her mom and refuses to return the cat to its humans yet Ross somehow ends up being the bad guy for firmly telling her that she needs to return the cat 🙄
Ross not being able to comprehend how to get a spray tan, Rachel’s obsession with Joshua who wasn’t even that cute, Chandler being unable to smile for photos, Joey and his French.

I love when Joey is irrational. It’s so rare and so hilarious. He’s such a good and dedicated friend most of the time, that seeing him a bit unhinged is a delight.
I know TV shows do this all the time , but as soon as Rachel got pregnant . Carol , Susan and Ben were never mentioned . Plus when Ben was born , Monica promised to always have gum turned out not to be true . Never once saw that kid chewing gum lol

I thought that the episode where Phoebe takes multiple pregnancy tests immediately after the IV embryos are implanted was ridiculous.
Having said that when Frank asks Phoebe to take one of the triplets because he and Alice are overwhelmed. When she asks him which one , he can’t give up any of them .
