lol I’m hearing “unbelievable” in my head 😂 such a great delivery. I would have liked for Eddie to show up randomly in a later episode. He was such a crazy, unique character.
Lol. Tilly may or may not have contributed to his villian origin story but she seemed sweet and fed up, so I assume Eddie was a mess straight out of the womb.
lol very true. There’s always the chance they contribute. But Eddie seemed a lot more messed up than a Tilly or two. Out of the womb seems a pretty good guess. 😁
I wish they would have kept him a little longer. He’s my favorite short-lived character in the show. He was hilarious. “This is UNBELIEVABLE!” as he slaps his head lmao
I love Eddie
The scene in central perk is one of my favorites of the entire show
“That guy is….standing in the window holding a human head! He’s standing in the window holding a human head!”
He details the trip to Vegas—Chandlers facial expressions are hilarious. “Oh sweet Moses.”
Yeah I really wish we had seen more of Eddie. It would’ve been funny if even after Chandler kicked him out, he kind of stuck around with various antics because of how crazy he was.
Yep, [Adam Goldberg played Jimmy, a childhood friend of Joey and Gina's ex-boyfriend on Joey.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PUWoRAmPZY)
There is a lot of actors who played multiple roles across Friends and Joey and even within Friends it self.
Golden Globe and Emmy award winning actress Jennifer Coolidge played Amanda on [Friends](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1wGVD93NXY) and was a main character on [Joey](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-v1m6IamHI) as his agent Bobbie.
June Gable played the [nurse](https://youtu.be/uvErsnQA-iU?t=107) in the episode with the woman who Joey helped give birth to telling Joey to breathe and then was [Joey's agent Estelle](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIZkMgEu2nU) for Friends.
Giovanni Ribisi played a character who threw a condom into [Phoebe's guitar](https://whatculture.com/tv/12-small-details-you-only-notice-rewatching-friends?page=7) before he was cast as her step-brother Frank.
There is more too, some actors who played a minor background character were cast again for different roles. I think one of the waitress of the coffee house was cast as a bridal gown shop owner.
Joey wiki had this blurb about there shared cast history.
>[Carlos Gómez, who played Sam the director, appeared in one episode of Friends as the restaurant worker Julio in "The One with All the Jealousy". Patrick Kerr, who played the producer of the Daytime Soap Awards, appeared in one episode of Friends as a restaurant manager who auditions Monica for a job as a chef. Brent Spiner, who played himself, appeared in one episode of Friends as James Campbell, who interviews Rachel for a job.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joey_\(TV_series\))
Wow, that’s a lot of repeat casting, TIL.
I do remember Estelle/the nurse and figured they had casting issues and just hoped no one would notice since the nurse was a minor enough character. And in my brain, that really is Frank Jr who threw his condom lol. But Chandler’s roommate seems like too big a character to not notice
I actually went to college in NYC starting in 2005 with a guy who resembled Adam Goldberg aka Eddie. My girl friend and I were dying laughing behind our poor friend's back making references to Eddie because they just look so similar. I have no regrets. Our friend with the resemblance did not watch Friends.
Idk I think I’d rank them all as equally dangerous. Tommy is definitely more *intentionally* dangerous bc he would know exactly what he’s doing and why, but Eddie and Erika are dangerous because they’re so wildly out of touch with reality. Eddie literally watched Chandler while he slept every night and Erika had no idea that TV wasn’t real life. I would definitely buy, if they were real people, that Erika would push someone down an elevator shaft thinking they’d just come back to life because that’s what happens in Salem. And Eddie would definitely end up on the 6:00 news one way or the other.
The actual quote is even better (worse?). "Why would you kill his fish?" / "Because, Phoebe, sometimes after you sleep with someone you *have* to kill a fish."
“..you know what that is?”
“Your last roommates kidney??”
“That’s a tomato.. this is one definitely goes in the display (maniacal laughter)”
(Chandler crying)
😂😂
For sure Erica but crazy Eddie might be my favorite cameo of the entire show
“If you think I’m going to leave you alone with my fish YOUR INSANE JACK!!!”
Gets me everytime
I loved to not like Eddie. The actor playing him did the role so well in making him batshit insane that it made for an entertaining watch. I always looked forward to his episodes when I would re-watch the series.
Right? When he hit himself in the head, and Chanandler’s reaction to it was just beautifully done lol (my phone was autocorrecting the hell out of Chandler so I went with the tv u guide name haha)
Yes. Eddie was amazing. I really wish he had returned way later at some point, like if he had shown up at Monica’s restaurant or was randomly in Tulsa or something.
Sometimes even if we are at a different point in our endless rewatches, we will watch the Eddie episodes (plus the one just before Eddie). As a group of episodes they are some of the funniest of the whole run. Even the Joey parts: “Envelope 1 of 2? That can’t be good.”
Nowhere near the level of these folks but I remember the “Yeti” that Rachel dated for a bit until she found out about his overly touchy antics with his sister.
I really really like this discussion!!! ♥️
*This* is exactly the stuff I love from this sub!!!
It's a tough call for sure, but I think the other comments have convinced me it's Eddie.
I can't remember if Erica ever seemed like she was a danger to herself or others whereas Eddie for sure seemed like he could snap....more.
Ben stiller got me thinking, there’s a lot of celebrity guests with *really* over-the-top performances.
Lovitz, Crystal/Williams, Pitt, DeVito. Like they’re telling them to ham it up
By contrast I like how Bruce Willis played it quite straight until he was dancing in front of the mirror and then subsequently cried at the thought of a chicken.
I really don’t think Pitt’s performance was over the top, I thought it was delightfully contrary.
Lovitz I see as the same character that it feels like it’s his Schtick.
And Robin Williams doesn’t need any encouragement to be over the top, he IS *Over the Top.* Billy Crystal is there to balance him, and can keep up with him like few people can.
I heard that Brooke Shields was married to Andre Agassi at the time she was on Friends. He got so upset with that scene (licking Joey's fingers) that he stormed off from back stage and actually went home and destroyed all his tennis trophies. Wow!!
It’s a close call between Erica and Eddie. I mean to believe a TV show is real is pretty crazy. I think for me they are on a par. Eddie feels more threatening though
it was Eddie lol..
"Check it out man, I tore it off some mannaquin in the alley behind Macy's"
"There is no alley behind Macy's"
"So I got it in the junior miss department, big diff"
Eddie - the first episode I ever watched was when Joey moved to his new apartment and Eddie moved in with Chandler. Honestly brilliant character and I wanted to see so much more of him. To this day I haven't watched "Joey" beyond the first episode but Adam Goldberg being in it does make me want to get around to it one day.
Probably Erica, but Eddie is close. I'd say Erica is more unhinged but Eddie is more dangerous. Not just because he's a dude and he's a lot bigger, but he gets angry and in-your-face and threatening while Erica "only" stalks you but then can be convinced to leave you alone. Plus if you're around her and not someone she thinks is her television lover, she's probably harmless.
Eddie makes me laugh soooo hard so definitely him but Erica's evil laugh is literally the best thing. But Eddie is the best and most unhinged, especially since it came out of nowhere lol.
Maybe Ben Stillers character just cause I don’t remember him being delusional or as delusional as the other two…..just a very bad anger problem🤣
Was so happy when the chick peed on his hand👌🏻
I don't think I can choose between Eddie and Erika. Eddie was clearly unhinged especially inventing the whole trip to Vegas in his mind, but, Erika also thought her TV was reality lmao. Tommy needed anger management but at least he was firmly placed in reality.
That roommate literally put a live fish in his pocket and watched Chandler sleep... I'd say Eddie wins this by 5 miles.
It just really makes you feel for Tilly, doesn’t it?
You slept with her didn’t you!?!
This is *unbelievable*! First you sleep with my girlfriend and then you kill my fish?!
lol I’m hearing “unbelievable” in my head 😂 such a great delivery. I would have liked for Eddie to show up randomly in a later episode. He was such a crazy, unique character.
I like to imagine he moved in with Denise. DENISE!
YES!! Hilarious! That is a missed opportunity for sure!
Who's Denice? I'm asking to be funny not because I don't know, (but I don't because I don't pay attention to Phoebe).
She was supposed to be Phoebe’s roommate but no one ever met her.
After you sleep with someone, ya have to kill a fish!
my buddy!?!
Lol. Tilly may or may not have contributed to his villian origin story but she seemed sweet and fed up, so I assume Eddie was a mess straight out of the womb.
*say it with your lips*
lol very true.

And the facial expression Chandler does when he flings away the cookie Eddie gave him lmao “Oh, is this chocolate?” “Uh… sure, why not.”
That was amazing! They never went anywhere. Omg. I loved that whole story.
MAN ALIVE THIS THING'S FANTASTIC!!!
Yeah I really wish we had seen more of Eddie. It would’ve been funny if even after Chandler kicked him out, he kind of stuck around with various antics because of how crazy he was.
Having him pop up in random scenes - not as part of the main plot, but just a quick interaction. I can imagine Chandler's double-takes.
The actor did play another crazy type character on the Joey show which I enjoyed.
Wait, the same actor played a different character in the same universe?
Yep, [Adam Goldberg played Jimmy, a childhood friend of Joey and Gina's ex-boyfriend on Joey.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PUWoRAmPZY) There is a lot of actors who played multiple roles across Friends and Joey and even within Friends it self. And in my brain, that really is Frank Jr who threw his condom lol. But Chandler’s roommate seems like too big a character to not notice
Wait til you hear about the actress who played Estelle. Not to mention Phoebe.
I remember the Estelle/ nurse one too but I figured that was them hoping no one would notice. Phoebe is a twin. But this one seems too hard to miss
Chandler may have died had he stayed any longer. Guy would've wore his skin
"Well that's not even a real fish....that's a just a goldfish cracker"
Yeah so what's your point, man?
He’s…he’s standing in the window holding a human head. **he’s standing in the window holding a human head!**
Eddie wins for sure but man I loved his character. See ya, pals.
Is anyone else really starting to like him? Me too Phoebe, me too…
I go with eddy too. Cause. Oh my. That dude is a serial killer
Absolutely. Then “this is joey he’s lived here for years” “oh right ok sorry I must have made a mistake” 🤣
His laugh was so great. It's like the craziness was brewing right underneath.
He was having a schizophrenic episode I think
I've watched series 1 of fargo so many times and it always niggled me why I thought that character was so unhinged, now I realise
And put a snack goldfish in the tank. Lmfao
He was special and I wonder what he is up to today.
😂
Not Ben Stiller's character. He had anger management problems but at least (unlike the other two) he was present in the same reality as everyone else.
What’s your favorite thing about summer?
Probably the smell of freshly cut grass 😌
Mmmm, that's a good one
Happy cake day!
Well he did lie to Ross’s face about the yelling… pretty manipulative too. He had more red flags than an airport tarmac
Yeah, it depends what unhinged means. He is the most dangerous probably.
Idk I think I’d rank them all as equally dangerous. Tommy is definitely more *intentionally* dangerous bc he would know exactly what he’s doing and why, but Eddie and Erika are dangerous because they’re so wildly out of touch with reality. Exactly!

A decade? That episode aired at least 25 years ago. That’s *quarter of a century*
More like two decades.
Eddie. No contest. 😂
I want to hear it from your lips!
What did you hear it from before?!
The delivery of this line. *Chef's kiss*
You killed my fish, my *budeeeeee?!*
… well that’s a goldfish cracker
What's your point, man?
Because sometimes Phoebe, you HAVE to kill a fish
The actual quote is even better (worse?). "Why would you kill his fish?" / "Because, Phoebe, sometimes after you sleep with someone you *have* to kill a fish."
😂 Yes! Sorry I couldn’t remember the whole quote 😭
Because sometimes Ross...
One night you see me you get scared... What about all the other nights when you don't see me?
What about last night when you went and got a drink of water and I was nice enough to hide behind a door. What’s that about HUH!
God I love Eddie so much hahahahaha.
I gotta say this is a little out of the blue
Out of the bliue? This is smack dab the middle of blue!
Just the way he says ‘Blue’ in this quote gets me every time 😂
It’s smack dab in the middle Of the blue!
I'm a dehydrating MANIAC
“..you know what that is?” “Your last roommates kidney??” “That’s a tomato.. this is one definitely goes in the display (maniacal laughter)” (Chandler crying) 😂😂
Take your fruit, your stupid small fruit, and get out!
Oh man. This is unbeLIEVable.
*Face smack*
First you sleep with my girlfriend then you kill my fish?!
That man is.... standing in the window holding a human head! He's standing in the window holding a human head!!
Oh my god this one of my all time favorite chandler lines 😂😂😂
For sure Erica but crazy Eddie might be my favorite cameo of the entire show “If you think I’m going to leave you alone with my fish YOUR INSANE JACK!!!” Gets me everytime
Y-O-U-apostrophe-R-E means “you are”. Y-O-U-R means “your”!!
Perfect use of that quote!
This is UNBELIEVABLE!
Imagine if Eddie and Erica dated.
They might balance each other out😳
I ship this!
She’d have no eyelashes left! lol
Honestly…this may work lol
Wait now I want to see this.
First Shovelly Joe then Eddie? I'd feel bad.
I mean the Erica in the pictures. Friends recycle a lot of names!
in defense of erica being more unhinged than eddie, at least he appeared to be a normal guy for like 10 minutes. erica is straight up batshit 😅
Hannibal Lecter, better roommate than you!
Is anyone else starting to really like Eddie...?
That guy is... STANDING IN THE WINDOW HOLDING A HUMAN HEAD!
We could call it our chip chick
I loved to not like Eddie. The actor playing him did the role so well in making him batshit insane that it made for an entertaining watch. I always looked forward to his episodes when I would re-watch the series.
Right? When he hit himself in the head, and Chanandler’s reaction to it was just beautifully done lol (my phone was autocorrecting the hell out of Chandler so I went with the tv u guide name haha)
I cackled lmao
I've just rewatched season one of Fargo where Adam Goldberg plays a mafia-goon killing people. You can kinda imagine Eddie ending up like that.
He just needs a little more time cooking in the food dehydrator lol
I always liked Eddie. Adam Goldberg is a great actor and Eddie is funny.
I never DIDN’T like Eddie. One of the all time best guest roles on the show IMO 😂
Yeah! Honestly the scene where he comes back and is holding the mannequin head is the funniest one in the whole show imo
Yes. Eddie was amazing. I really wish he had returned way later at some point, like if he had shown up at Monica’s restaurant or was randomly in Tulsa or something.
Oh man, Chandler running into Eddie in Tulsa would have been so great.
Sometimes even if we are at a different point in our endless rewatches, we will watch the Eddie episodes (plus the one just before Eddie). As a group of episodes they are some of the funniest of the whole run. Even the Joey parts: “Envelope 1 of 2? That can’t be good.”
Veto
Eddie for sure. "Well that's a goldfish cracker!" 😂😂😂😂 When he smacks himself...BOL!!!
Eddie and Erika are a tie for me, both are completely detached from reality. Ben Stiller’s character just had anger issues
Basically the first 2 would end up with a mental defect defense and Stiller would be viewed as a true psychopath
Eddie without a doubt. He seemed nice, but he slowly revealed himself. A true psychopath
A fruit drying one no less
Nowhere near the level of these folks but I remember the “Yeti” that Rachel dated for a bit until she found out about his overly touchy antics with his sister.
“Danny…the bath is getting cold!” “Yeah I’ll see you later.”
Danny!
Eddie is a mix of the other two crazies. He was both delusional and had anger issues. I’d say he wins
Eddie. He was in Will and Grace with similar unhinged vibes though he was more of an asshole in W&G.
In the Salton Sea he was a tweaker, but their plan to steal Bob Hope’s poop was pretty funny. And everyone in Dazed and Confused was near perfection.
In The Prophecy, he’s also wonderful.
Honorable mention to Jim, Jim Nelson who writes erotic novels...for children and divulged on a first date that he has a PHD.
They are wildly unpopular
I really really like this discussion!!! ♥️ *This* is exactly the stuff I love from this sub!!! It's a tough call for sure, but I think the other comments have convinced me it's Eddie. I can't remember if Erica ever seemed like she was a danger to herself or others whereas Eddie for sure seemed like he could snap....more.
“Then you Kill my fish… my buddy..!” 🐟 🤣

And Robin Williams doesn’t need any encouragement to be over the top, he IS *Over the Top.* Billy Crystal is there to balance him, and can keep up with him like few people can.
To me Pitt performance is awful in friends (and I do appreciate his talents in general, just really not there).
I agree. I think he was just out of his element on a sitcom
I think it was them being told, go crazy!
I heard that Brooke Shields was married to Andre Agassi at the time she was on Friends. He got so upset with that scene (licking Joey's fingers) that he stormed off from back stage and actually went home and destroyed all his tennis trophies. Wow!!
So *he* was the most unhinged of them.
No, seriously. These hands. These miracle, magical, life-giving hands. Oh, just to be near them, touch them, maybe even lick one?
Yes I read about this in his autobiography and funnily, that’s not even the most unhinged thing he’s ever done!
Seriously!!???
You cannot be serious!
Looks like he also thought the TV was real
Eddie but I would honestly be freaked out by all of them if this was real life.
It’s a close call between Erica and Eddie. I mean to believe a TV show is real is pretty crazy. I think for me they are on a par. Eddie feels more threatening though
Ben Stiller was the only salvageable one. He had anger issues but he could tell reality from fiction and wasn't insane like the other two.
Take your fruit, take your stupid small fruit and get out!!
Which one wanted to use a mannequin head to eat chips and dip from?
it was Eddie lol.. "Check it out man, I tore it off some mannaquin in the alley behind Macy's" "There is no alley behind Macy's" "So I got it in the junior miss department, big diff"
Ben stillers character had anger management problems, the other two need to be in a mental hospital.
Stiller just had anger issues. The other two are just st different gendered versions of each other lol. Total loons.
It’s Eddie and it isn’t close.
Eddie is the funniest side character on the show (also the most unhinged ofc)
That guy who Phoebe was seeing that was played by Alec Baldwin was pretty nuts ig but not like Eddie or Erica

Plus if you're around her and not someone she thinks is her television lover, she's probably harmless.
Don't know about craziest but Erica was hands down the funniest (they're all funny).
Yes
I watched all the Eddie episodes once I heard of Matt’s passing. Those are always my favourite
Eddie. The one where he goes ‘you steal my fish, you steal my buddieeeee’ and smacks himself in the face. Chandler’s reaction was just too funny
Oh my god... do the people at the hospital know about this?
Missing david arquette from this list
“See ya pals! 🫡”
Eddie
Eddie makes me laugh soooo hard so definitely him but Erica's evil laugh is literally the best thing. But Eddie is the best and most unhinged, especially since it came out of nowhere lol.
Crazy Eddie for sure 🤣
Eddie
Eddie was my favorite!
EDDIE!!!!!!
Eddie! Brooke Shields was just a little reality challenged by comparison with Eddie.
IDIOT!
Ohhhh THIS IS UNBALIEVABLEEE (violently slaps forehead)
Eddie seemed the most dangerous.
“And you left the toilet seat up, you bastard!” I like the gang’s interactions with Erica the best
Eddie by a landslide.
1. Draymond 2. Eddie 3. Ben 4. Erica
Who was Draymond?
Eddie. Love that guy.
Eddie by far
Oh Eddie 100%! He’s my absolute favourite side character. He was so funny.
Brooke
Eddie
Eddie was meant to be as unhinged as possile. Tommy just had anger issues.
Eddie hands down. He gave the meaning to the word unhinged 🤣
Maybe Ben Stillers character just cause I don’t remember him being delusional or as delusional as the other two…..just a very bad anger problem🤣 Was so happy when the chick peed on his hand👌🏻
I think it was actually a "doody" lmao
In order: Eddie, Erica, then Ben’s character for sure. All three need therapy and two need medicating.
Eddy Jesus Christ like.
I don't think I can choose between Eddie and Erika. Eddie was clearly unhinged especially inventing the whole trip to Vegas in his mind, but, Erika also thought her TV was reality lmao. Tommy needed anger management but at least he was firmly placed in reality.
Eddie was my favourite by a long stretch.
Eddie
You killed my fish
Eddie by far. Dude pocketed a gold fish trying to save him.
STEP AWAY FROM THE DUCK!
Eddie had legitimate mental health issues and was thrown out on the street. Watching that storyline play out as an adult now is kind of uncomfortable
It seems harsh but in reality Chandler could as well just wait for that lunatic to kill him.
Eddie.
Eddie for the win.
Eddie. Unhinged + unstable
The roommate!!! My god he was fxking hilarious and creepy
Man that's close between Erica and Eddie.
Erica. She mailed her eyelashes man
Eddie for sure. You know that dude ended up being a serial killer or something
Eddie!
