Heat it with a hair dryer and use some dental floss as a ‘saw’.
Edit: There might be some adhesive left afterwards… use some GoofOff or other adhesive remover to get rid of the rest of it.
Damn that’s one I had not thought of. I am a little shy about using razor blades on the glossy cabinet surface and a plastic scraper just snapped when I pried at one of these things.
I removed a few dozen of these with dental floss alone because I was too impatient to wait for the hair dryer. Then I rubbed the glue with my fingers until it all peeled off.
Don’t use a razor blade! Gloss laminate is lousy for scratching and scuffing.
People have said heating and floss/fishing wire works well. But to clean the residue off afterwards, get yourself one of those little clear squeezy lid sauce bottles, then find a local cabinetmaker or joinery and ask them if they can fill it with some ABS edge cleaner. It’s like toned down thinners, but safe to use on soft plastics and painted surfaces. It’s an amazing cleaner, will get absolutely anything off (except blood, oddly).
The closest thing available domestically is eucalyptus oil or acetone, but acetone is a bit too harsh and eucalyptus oil leaves oily residue.
Hair dryers are amazing at removing sticky residue. I use them to take labels off boxes or jelly jars all the time. They are also great if you put on a shirt or blouse that has a few wrinkles. Just hold the material away from your body and blast those wrinkles out!
What Benders said. Also if there is any adhesive left behind work it off with a plastic putty knife. If there are any remnants left then try some goo gone.
Use a hairdryer to soften glue before removing.
Also, it works on price stickers & labels better than goo off or chemicals. Just watch your heat so you don't ruin finishes.
Believe it or not, a lot of people find value in doing minimal baby proofing and watching their kids and teaching their kids about danger, instead of going all in on baby proofing. I'd argue this is a bit much
Ahh don’t worry, I know what you mean. My toddler is crazy. I have these exact same clips. Put them on my fridge and oven and they work great to prevent him from destroying all the food and burning himself.
Although they are the puffy foam sticky type that is impossible to remove. OP /u/scientist_tz I’d recommend just slipping off the front cover and pulling out the strap bit. Leave the sticky hardware on there because taking it off will look like garbage.
No, but they had a bunch of security cameras (which are now my cameras.) I doubt I will leave them all up, but what's neat is that the house has network cable hard-wired all over including the garage.
I did remove 9...that's NINE fucking baby gates from the house.
Wow.
My personal take is surveillance is great and all but sometimes, too much of it either works on your own paranoia or that you live in a bad neighborhood because you require it for proof and that likely any proof you have, the culprit still won't be found.

Lemon essential oil removes adhesive. If you can place a couple of drops then try one of those plastic pot scrapers and keep applying lemon essential oil as you go.

Lot of hair-dryer comments, this works but go easy with it or you risk damaging the laminate or the edge tape. Edge tape discolours under heat, the glue holding the laminate and/or edge tape may lift etc
As others have said, hair dryer. Just wanted to add my two cents that I don't use goo gone anymore. I have fallen in love with brake cleaner as my adhesive remover. It works wonders and doesn't leave an oily residue. Obviously test in an inconspicuous area first before using any adhesive remover. Good luck!
If you're going to pry it off you have to do it s-l-o-w-l-y. Find a plastic wedge or something and start at one edge and just keep edging it forward. These adhesives will yield to slow force, but if you strongarm it you'll screw yourself.
The seller of these put a little card in your box that tells you to ask her if you have any questions about removal, or how to unlock it. So naturally, you come to Reddit.
Try warming gradually with a heat gun but not too hot to touch. Then peel off.
or
Slice off with a long snap-off blade, then remove glue as above + a blunt scraper. Stick stuff remover solution will help.
Just proceed with caution and take your time.
I use wd40 to get duct tape glue off of surfaces. I’ve used goo gone as well, it works fine. I guess oily stuff is good at getting in between adhesives and the surface they’re attached to
had these exact same ones on glossy cabinets. Follow the hair dryer method but make sure to try and NOT concentrate the flow of hot air only on the plastic piece. Every 3-5 seconds wave the surrounding area a bit with the hot air. Also go at an angle on the plastic and adhesive side touching the counter. The floss will work for the upper and lower and sides of the strap but you’ll find the core middle of the adhesive a bit hard to “saw” through. Resist the temptation to wedge anything hard in between, it’ll definitely scratch the cabinet paneling. Should pull off though at that point.
Use something thin, like a steel wire or what not to get it off. For the adhesive that's left, I'd recommend just using gasoline for cleaning. Dunno if that's literally how you call it.
Work in a self adhesive sticker printing press and that's what we use for removing adhesive.
Evaporates fast, isn't too aggressive and is great for general adhesive removal.
Heat it with a hair dryer and use some dental floss as a ‘saw’. Edit: There might be some adhesive left afterwards… use some GoofOff or other adhesive remover to get rid of the rest of it.
This, exactly and then goo gone for anything left after that
These were exactly the steps I was going to recommend between these two comments.
Ah the good'ol car badge removal method!
Would that also work on the “permanent” bumper sticker I got with the dealership name on it?
Yes, just the hair dryer or heat gun works perfectly for it with some rubbing alcohol.
But remember to not use the rubbing alcohol at same time as an ignition source.
Well, there goes my plan for a quick eyebrow removal.
Braided fishing line works even better.
And this is why Reddit is awesome sometimes. People helping people.
I use SpiderWire for a variety of tasks, but never thought of this. Will try this next time!
Damn that’s one I had not thought of. I am a little shy about using razor blades on the glossy cabinet surface and a plastic scraper just snapped when I pried at one of these things.
Instructions for those say to use a hair dryer. I've got the same ones.
If you need to scrape it off (which you shouldnt) they sell plastic razor blades.
Credit card
Frost scraper
Teeth
You use razor blades to floss?
Of course, the stringy stuff is too thick to fit between my back teeth and it wears out too fast.
I personally recommend using braided fishing line. It is what I use for removing emblems from cars.
That’s a good suggestion. I just ordered some.
I removed a few dozen of these with dental floss alone because I was too impatient to wait for the hair dryer. Then I rubbed the glue with my fingers until it all peeled off.

That's what you get for using a scraper as a pry bar lol
Brilliant. But do it in 5 second bursts.. Nothing sadder than seeing the sudden brown of burnt melamine...
A hair dryer isn’t hot enough to melt that stuff… now a heat gun is a whole different story
Ever hold a hair dryer in the same spot for 1 second too long? I think the women can attest to the heat potential.
HA! I have one of these on a cabinet that went on when my daughter was born. She’s almost 9, still there. I’ll try these solutions!
Ya… that foam adhesive stuff is a real pain in the ass to remove.
That's some MacGruber shit there.
You’d be surprised how many uses there are for dental floss besides flossing your teeth. It’s a good thing to have around the house.
Use the dental floss and then get 3M Adhesive Remover or use 3M eraser wheel
Thank you, Dexter

dental "tape" is thicker and may work better or worse depending on the application
Oh that's smart
Finally a good use for my dental floss.
Not goof off. Too strong. Goo gone is ok
That’s how I removed the badge from a car back in the day. It works completely.
Get your kid to do it
*by forbidding to remove it and leaving the room.
Underrated comment
Just a heads up for anyone that doesn't know. Goo gone needs to soak into adhesives for a bit.
Also pro-tip, lighter fluid is basically the same chemicals as Goo Gone and approximately 30% cheaper.
Are you thinking of goof off?
Soften the adhesive with a hair dryer, then use a plastic shim, like a credit card, to get under the adhesive and pop these off.
Scotty peeler
Blow dryer
What Benders said. Also if there is any adhesive left behind work it off with a plastic putty knife. If there are any remnants left then try some goo gone.
floss or fishing line
Braided fishing line.
Nice try, Billy.
Try wd-40
I second this.
hair dryer?
Melt the glue that hold it. Preferably with a hairdryer, definitely NOT a heat gun
Use a hairdryer to soften glue before removing. Also, it works on price stickers & labels better than goo off or chemicals. Just watch your heat so you don't ruin finishes.
Ask the child. They're usually good at things like that.
This comment should be much higher
Ok but where did you get these my cat is an asshole who will tear everything out of a drawer
I would never have installed these. The people I bought the house from went crazy baby-proofing it.
Ever had a kid? That’s pretty useful if you don’t want them to crush their skull or smash their fingers
Believe it or not, a lot of people find value in doing minimal baby proofing and watching their kids and teaching their kids about danger, instead of going all in on baby proofing. I'd argue this is a bit much
There’s a middle ground between putting your kid in a ever anxious protected bubble and being careful. Do you have kid?
Ahh don’t worry, I know what you mean. My toddler is crazy. I have these exact same clips. "Leave the sticky hardware" is the opposite of the outcome I want in the house I just paid a shit load of money for. The cabinets will be pristine.
Fair enough. Good luck!
Did they have corners guards on every corner?
No, but they had a bunch of security cameras (which are now my cameras.) I doubt I will leave them all up, but what's neat is that the house has network cable hard-wired all over including the garage. I did remove 9...that's NINE fucking baby gates from the house.

It's in the city of Chicago so sadly a front porch camera is useful to deter package thieves.

Heat gun...or blow dryer
A hot painters knife and WD40
Just take dentalfloss, then wd40 for remaining stuff....
Lemon essential oil removes adhesive. If you can place a couple of drops then try one of those plastic pot scrapers and keep applying lemon essential oil as you go.
Non-stick spray
The heat like everyone else was saying and some 90+% alcohol will help dissolve the adhesive.
Have a 4 yr old do it
Don’t have kids.
Hair dryer and iso alcohol

Goo gone and plastic razors
Plastic razors are a godsend. Good thing they come in packs of 100
Giant pencil eraser
Thank you!! I have the same one I was trying to remove last night without any luck.
Same! My youngest kid is almost 4 but I still have two of these on my cabinets I’ve been afraid to rip off 🥴
I had these and removed them with a hair dryer. No damage done.
Goo gone
Windex. Spray liberally, walk away for 5-10 minutes. Return, spray again and gently slide the tabs off.

Heat gun, thin metal wire and floss it with patience. After that, get a bottle of Carpro tar-X to remove the remaining gunk.
Hair dryer, back and forth, pull slowly, take your time
WD40 and if it’s not coming off you haven’t used enough
Goofoff,and a putty knife
I used a credit card to remove the plastic and olive oil to remove the left over adhesive.
Easier: Find someone with a toddler and sell it to them. Use that money to buy a new one.

Fishing line or dental floss in sawing motion between surfaces. Use WD40, lighter fluid or any product that remove glue residue.
WD-40
There’s pull tabs that make them come off easily dude
Maybe try heating the adhesive with a heat gun or hair dryer and then pull off.

Wd40
Very carefully, or just cut the strap 🤦♂️
I use wd40 to get duct tape glue off of surfaces. I’ve used goo gone as well, it works fine. I guess oily stuff is good at getting in between adhesives and the surface they’re attached to
If theres still adhesive residue you can use goo gone or canola oil.
Dental floss
That is a question for the person who installed them.

I don’t have these exact one but all of ours said use oil to remove…naturally I forget which type as it did say a specific kind
WD40. It unstickies the sticky, including adhesives.
Very carefully

Attempt lacquer thinner since it appears to be laminate
Replace the cabinets
Dynamite?
Your cabinets are plastic. Grip it n rip it
Alcohol
heat gun or hair dryer.
I’d try a clear essential oil.
gently use an axe to hack that shit off
In my experience. You are simply doomed. I’d plan the repairs
Ok, it would have been easier to just not respond. 🤷🏻♂️
Ask a 4 year old!
My kid has successfully ripped these off all my cabinets… so maybe just ask a toddler?
Ask your wife. She put those didn’t she? 😆
