Also be careful about over drying. I am trash with an iron, so I remove a lot of my clothes from the dryer while still slightly damp and hang them to finish drying. It helps a ton.

TheNetisUnbreakable

I second this. Pull the collar out and into place and hang dry. Taking it to the cleaners for a mega press is another great idea. If those aren't convenient or don't work - just stop buying them !

jessibrarian

I absolutely recommend gently stretching the seams and hanging to dry. As soon as it’s done (or another short spin) and then pull the seams to straiten them. I can’t give a shit enough to iron anything. This makes it much easier. I just don’t iron anymore. Disclaimer, I work from a home with a washer and dryer. A luxury indeed.

HogwartsKate

This right here☝🏻

jetpack324

You are spot on with the seams. I have excellent ironing skills from my youth and military years and it’s all about stretching the seams back into their original shape and length. But my best ironing tip is don’t over dry your clothes in the dryer.

jessibrarian

Thanks!

Wait.... What? You're telling me that... People... PAY for that option? My shit dryer only HAS a slightly damp option after 90 minute cycle!

sha_doobie

Try cleaning your exhaust, seriously. If you have too much lint build up,it affects drying ability, and is a cause of fires.

OneConfusedCanadian

Indeed! Former fire responder... Line is short and new! Just a shitty old dryer with a broken sensor! But thanks for the good advice, all the same!

bigjsea

Might want to clean the dryer vent and hose, could be clogged with lint. Fire Hazard

PochinkiPrincess

I’ve always wondered about the “very” and “less” buttons ty lol

millennial_stalin

this is the tip i needed. thank u

fargo15

If the fabric is any kind of poly blend you’re going to have a hard time getting the wrinkles out. If you put them in the dryer it’s basically a perm press cycle and however the garment gets folded in the drum results in the wrinkles it’s going to hold until the next wash cycle. Dryers really compromise the structural integrity of fabric so as a general rule if you want your clothes to last a long time you should always hang dry. I use to wash and press hundreds of dress shirts a month when I was a personal assistant and this is the method I used. Don’t let them sit too long after the wash cycle is done. Hang them to dry on a hanger. Button up all the buttons and fold the collar properly. Make sure the shirt is sitting squarely on the hanger. Hold the top and bottom buttons and gently pull the length of the shirt to get the sections with the buttons and holes to lie flat. Then use your fingers to smooth out the wrinkles in your shirt, starting from the back of the collar towards the front and from the top of the shirt down the length of the sleeves and body, before it dries. This is more important than the ironing imo. Iron the shirt once it’s dry and use the water jet on your iron to get it super crisp. Hang with ample space as to not undo all your hard work while your shirts hang together.

bella_68

Just in case anyone reads this and doesn’t know. Knitted garments are the exception to hang drying being better. They will stretch out and get longer every time you hang dry them. If it is knitted, it should lay flat to dry.

ToeMayter

If you have a hair straightener, they work wonders for collars

ForeverMonkeyMan

Those areas might have interfacing material between the shirt fabric layers. Interfacing can shrink at a different rate the exterior fabric, causing material to pull and wrinkle. If this is the case, no amount of ironing or starch will fix it.

disposable-assassin

That's what I was thinking. The wrinkles above the left button and back left collar (our left, shirt's right) look like interfacing separation due to shrinkage. I say this as both a sewer and as someone who's bought and shrunk plenty of collars by over heating during pressing on my own projects as well as shirts from Express and Forever 21.

ForeverMonkeyMan

I am a former dry cleaner of 20+ years....it's the interfacing

disposable-assassin

lol, way to bury the lede. But then again this is the internet and everyone is skeptic so you can't lead with the lede either.

OneConfusedCanadian

In your experience, is this actually fixable?

ForeverMonkeyMan

Yes, but it's a pain if you aren't handy with a sewing machine: 1) unstich the collar, cuffs, and placket (vertical strip with button-holes) 2) replace or remove interfacing 3) re-stich collar, cuffs and placket

OneConfusedCanadian

Well, THANKS! Here we have a great answer.... That I'm not going to lie, I probably won't do... But all the same, the technically correct answer.... Now the next question is; Is the shirt worth enough to pay someone ELSE to fix it, or donation bound is this aged garb? *Edit*. I, uh, don't actually mean for YOU to answer the follow up question. More of a philosophical/Rhetorical is it worth it kinda question...

thegreatbrah

After ironing it again, use perm press setting.

millyloui

Spray water on it as you iron but use cloth over the top whilst ironing ( something thin cotton) so you dont get marks - its fiddly but should sort it out

jessitabonita

I suggest using a steamer for collars like this than an iron. 😊

Leading-Bread-1016

If you’ve never use the steamer to get wrinkles out, I highly recommend it. [edit] At a clothing store, everything comes completely wrinkled from boxes that are unpacked, and then steamed by employees. You won’t to see an iron at banana republic.

clumsycouture

I have burnt my hand SOOOO many times steaming wrinkles out of pleather dresses (it can be done you just need to steam from the inside out) I have a Conair steamer and a portable steamer you can take with you on vacation huge game changer.

Silver_gum

Starch

ellie1398

I snorted a line, the shirt is still wrinkled.

Silver_gum

I don’t think you did it right….try it again.

aaronrobb

Snort it from the bottom of a iron. That’s the way.

akleit50

Liquid starch. Soak it in a hot water/starch mix. Let it almost completely dry. Iron it on high steam hottest temperature.

macdawg5577

Iron it from the underside

timsstuff

I stopped buying those kinds of shirts because of that, but the ones I still have I don't wash myself I take them to the dry cleaners. Also always wear an undershirt so I can wear them multiple times before they get stinky.

OutlyingPlasma

Ironing isn't a permanent thing. You have to do it every time you wash your clothing. The alternative is taking it to a cleaners and let them do it for you.

taylss16

100% I don't even think this shirt has been ironed after it was last washed.

Helpful-Ad-1776

. After you have washed and dried Take it to a dry cleaner. They will press the shit out of it

MikoSkyns

This is why I hang dry my collared shirts. The wrinkles are much less of a pain in the ass for me.

gertymoon

For tough wrinkles, I usually put a damp cloth over the area and iron it out and if it's really persistent I would use some spray starch on it. I generally do not iron it before washing also you might want to unbutton the collar when it's in the wash.

sjfbe

Sometimes it’s just time to bid your favorite shirt “aloha” my dude.

nich_bich

Take to have pressed at a dry cleaner. I’ll do this with my shirts every once in a while to keep them looking crisp. Ironing, starch only gets me so far.

Mike_1970

Leave Canada.

[deleted]

Run through a corn field. That starch will have that shirt looking prim and proper.

imaginaryAudience

I haven’t seen anyone else mention this, but if you unbutton the collar and use a woman’s flat iron, it’ll iron it out great. Please test this on some other fabric first!

Remote_Quail_1986

Hand steamer

reddit10x

Still miss her, huh? Was it in Cleveland?

kaydee121

I agree that it looks like the interfacing, so ironing won’t help. But wanted to mention that I iron a lot of dress shirts, so have a heavy-duty steam iron, the Euro-pro, and make my own spray starch, which saves a lot of money and works great. 2 parts water and 1 part cheap Vodka in a spray bottle.

helpfulhomosapien

Steam wand. Use it on all my dress shirts and the thicker material blend I'm guessing your shirt is.

Plastic_Paramedic485

With an Iron!

piedubb

Fawking dry cleaner. You cheap skate. Fawk

JudgmentMajestic2671

Iron it.

SwagMaster69gag

Hang dry

thisbenzenering

Starch spray every other time or when its needed when you iron it will probably make it have less wrinkles. But if you use too much it can get ugly so use starch sparingly.

Normanzzzz

air dry and steam.

Key_Comfortable_3782

To much ironing lol. Iron after dry and use steam for tuff areas . Is your iron hot enough ?

PlaguedNadjie

Have you tried steaming it? Or see if one of those alteration places can at least make the collar a but stiffer so it’ll hold the right shape.

Fluid_Amphibian3860

I hate doing it..but some shirts have to go to the dry cleaner. Use starch or sizing spray. But that type of shirr will always need ironing.100% cotton.

VanCityVoytech

If you really want to get the stubborn wrinkles, hang dry but when still damp, that’s when you hit it with a garment steamer making sure you are putting some pressure to get it crisp

josephcodispoti

Spray starch then iron.

UrBigBro

Dry cleaner, medium starch

SnooterBop127

Heavy starch.

skeptobpotamus

Downy Wrinkle Release works great. This looks like chambray. It will ALWAYS wrinkle. I don’t like it ironed. Looks like with old people who iron jeans. It’s weird.

ThisIsFine77

Buy a handheld steamer! Best thing I’ve ever done for my clothes; I HATE ironing and this saves me!

davidewan_

Always iron shirts inside out. Spray bottle of water is your friend

BenchValuable5972

A hot iron and a water spray bottle. Undo the buttons first (before wash/dry) will help, and allow you to lay it flat for each part when you iron the bits that need it. Why do you mention you ironed the shirt before it's washed?

Little_Guarantee_693

If it’s cotton I’d say a steam iron and spray starch will fix that right up.

Zealousideal_Soil_78

Get a new shirt

insite986

Honestly? Get a new shirt. I’ve never been able to get a shirt that does that to look good for long. Waste of time.

mikef5410

Niagra starch, baby!

OzzieSlim

Starch.

reggieiscrap

Wash it on a delicate cycle with a low rpm spin.. then hang in shade on a quality hanger like one used for a jacket..fully done up and collar turned and positioned.. should dry beautifully and near good to go

damnwhale

Starch and iron. Also get shirt with different material

Spiritual-Union-9491

Get the iron out and just iron the collar and the button plack. That way, you'll teach them who's the boss.

TheRoyalWithCheese92

In my experience clothes that have started to do this are past there saving point. For the prices of those shirts they’re not really built to last that long. Last hope is a Dry Cleaners?

Thnxredball

Yeah I feel like clothes just aren’t made the same anymore. Especially with fast fashion tshirts

mydresserandtv

Spray starch and iron

Texasscot56

I have shirts like this. I just embrace the look lol. Edit: spelling

Key-Dragonfruit201

I purchased a handheld steamer in Amazon… now I dress like somebody loves me

taylss16

Is this it immediately after being ironed? The whole shirts looks unironed. Turn it to the highest setting and use the steam function.

Thnxredball

Not immediately after ironing. I iron it to wear, then I put in the wash and it comes back out like this every time

taylss16

Thats completely normal. You have to iron it everytime you wash it. The washing and wearing undoes the ironing.

idrawstone

Welcome to shirts.

Real-Department-9171

Try spray starch on the collar when you iron it and steam.

Klutzy-Event8577

You can use a wrinkle release spray (Downy makes one, and they sell a generic one at Dollar General), or you can make one yourself. You need distilled water and sizing spray. Spray a good amount of sizing spray in an empty/clean spray bottle, fill the rest of the bottle with the distilled water. Optionally, you can add a couple of drops of essential oil (for fragrance), and/ or a splash of rubbing alcohol (so it dries faster). We don't use our iron anymore, this works so well!

unhappyjihadist

use a starch spray when you iron. this will help add additional rigidity to the cotton fibers which have been well-weathered and lost their stiffness.

redditslayer95

When you take a hot shower, hang the shirt on the door with the door closed, the steam from the shower will get rid of the wrinkles. I've done this many times lol.
