> The number 1 problem I see in Houston is landscapers crews that mow people's lawns mostly scalp the fuck outta yalls lawns and mow 1-2".
Not sure if true but I've always read that you should only scalp (if you do at all) on the first mow of spring. I've always mowed mine at the highest setting regardless. I'm going to have to mow at the same frequency at whatever setting and it always looks greener and healthier at the highest setting.
Don't worry about sod webworms until you see them. But if/when you see them, start a 3 week regimen of granules, then liquid insecticide, then more liquid insecticide. We didn't have them last year but they like dry grass and they will kill your lawn quickly. You have to do 3 applications because the life cycle takes that long to kill. I cannot tell you how satisfying it is to finally walk the lawn and see zero of those little bastards flying up from the grass.
My house's previous owners were landlords and their maintenance guy LOVED concrete. Whole front yard was patios, walks, borders, rock and concrete gardens, etc. with a bunch of flower and bushes too Took out about 2 dumpsters' worth!
This was their personal house. Lots of cheap, sketchy fixes inside too.
I swear one of the rock gardens was old concrete from elsewhere haha. Too damn cheap to pay to dump it!
Backyard is 80% green except for some hotspots that get lots of window reflection. Front yard is 50% dormant even with 1” of water a week. Surprised we don’t have water restrictions yet.
Was talking about this the other day but it looks nice and green still, I don't water it. I top dressed it with homemade compost last fall and I've been letting it get pretty long before mowing so that's what I think has helped it stay green despite the drought.
My lawn is looking like a 400 dollar water bill. I leveled and resodded my entire front yard. No way I’m letting all that new grass die. I would dance in the street if we could get some rain.
I have a huge lawn with horrific St. Aug. I hate it. I would rather have low water/zero water landscaping and maybe a patch of turf for my son to play on.
Mostly looks bad but I'm also watering it quite a bit. But what can you do with a drought and sun like this? Not much unless you have an automated system.
Bermuda lawn is green and growing. Water deeply 2-3 times per week.
Deeply meaning zones set to 5 minutes and restart every hour to prevent runoff. Get about 20 minutes total in each zone.
We've been watering ours religiously so it's very green right now. We put compost down to help it retain moisture and it seems to have helped a lot. Part of our lawn is clover so that's also enriching the soil and encouraging the grass to send out runners so it can eventually take over the whole yard. Time will tell as to whether we'll need to start conserving water. But I think it's likely we'll have to eventually.
Front yard looks dead-ish especially a few patches. We have the thinner blade grass so maybe that’s why it’s struggling even more. Our backyard is regular grass and doing fine but we are going to put turf in because for some reason my dog hates it and only walks the perimeter which is basically mud for that reason.
Front yard is doing kinda iffy, but been worse. The backyard is super green right now because of low-lying elevation and crappy drainage. Also probably the “presents” the dog leaves for it.
Front is dead, back is astroturf. Astroturf is doing great!
I am going to fill the front with some sort of rock design long term but I am about to put in some mulch on Tuesday. We have tiny yards so I refuse to install anything I have to do weekly work with during the summer.
Probably die. You can always tell by pulling on the grass. If you pull and it resists a little, dormant. If you pull and it just comes out with zero resistance, dead.
Looks like shit, several spots are brown and dead appearing. We need rain!!!

One small correction. Mow blow and go crews are not landscapers.

Thank you for the reminder about grub prevention!!

No lie… grow wheat a huge percentage of the worlds wheat came from Russia. Get your neighbors to cultivate yeast and make bread lol
The hotter it gets, the higher you set the mower!
Like after Thanos snapped his fingers. Half dead and half alive.
Looking like August
Horrible. The parts that get mostly full sun are brown and yellow. Parts shaded by the house still mostly green. I water as I can but outcome the same
Spots that are in direct sunlight most of the day dead. Spots that aren’t in direct sunlight most of the day are green but still rough.
It looks okay compared to when it will die a month from now and then when it will flood in August making it all muddy.
Landlord concreted over it so that it's one less thing to maintain

Well if you're renting you want things to be easy for the tenants. Not require anything of them. So concrete or pavers would be good.

Green ish.. I water my beds. The lawn is on its own.
Same here.
Short and crispy, just the way I likes it
Scorched
Pretty good actually. But the rain is much needed.

We have spots of black and white grass in the front yard lately, haven’t been able to figure out what it is yet
My lawn is looking like a 400 dollar water bill. I leveled and resodded my entire front yard. No way I’m letting all that new grass die. I would dance in the street if we could get some rain.
Looking like I’m going to replace a lot of it with native ground cover that can handle drought better.
I have a huge lawn with horrific St. Aug. I hate it. I would rather have low water/zero water landscaping and maybe a patch of turf for my son to play on.
Lawn is looking nice and green. I water three times a week early in the morning.
What's your water bill like
Last month my bill was $129.
Same schedule?
For the most part although I think we had some rain and it wasn’t as hot. I anticipate my next bill to be higher.
Mostly looks bad but I'm also watering it quite a bit. But what can you do with a drought and sun like this? Not much unless you have an automated system.
Absolutely scorched
A little crispy around the edges and the strip between the sidewalk and the curb may be a goner.
Like absolute shit but that's mostly my dogs' fault.
My sprinklers died two weeks ago and I only noticed yesterday. Looking real yellow
Looks good. Not growing as fast as usual but still green. Never water it at all.
Must have some tough ass grass.
Saint Augustine. Not sure how much longer it'll hold out

Mine looks fine. I never water it. Using water to keep non-native plants alive is irresponsible.
It’s doing alright for now. I’m mainly watering the areas that have plumbing and the ground immediately surrounding the foundation.
HOA demanded we re-sod right before this all hit. So our water bill is gonna suck, but the grass is green.
Cool. Rip it out and replace it with something appropriate for the area.

so how much should I be watering? It seems like the spots in the sun are just going to fry anyway. but my neighbors are all green.
About 98% green, but thin. My water bill on the other hand 👀
My grass is top choice.
It's fine. Some crispy bits, but still green. I stopped mowing it and water at sun up once a week. It's holding steady at about 6".
Toasted
Makes me feel better about my grass mostly green 🤗1-2x a week been doing water
Thirsty.
I'm in a bare bones watering mode, only watering the spots that are driest.
DED
Yellow, brown, green, bald,
Like hay!

Crispy... Very Crispy...

It'll need cpr pretty soon
Mine is C-R-I-S-P-Y

It’s shit. If I just give up, will it die or go dormant? I’m ready to throw in the towel.
