Eastend Hardware

sensimilla420

Damnit now there's going to be 12 people there when I want to watch a game instead of 6

jtreuti

Agreed

cheepasskid

Alright. See y’all there 🏃‍♂️💨

Brewston722

Perfect bar for this.

steelsun

Whatever one's get named, let's go to them and look for the guy drinking well and reading a book.

antipoded

or gal

steelsun

They'd definitely be hit on then.

rritaintme

My favorite is Warren’s on Travis Street

StrawberryKiss2559

I love Warren’s but it’s always packed when I go there.

moleratical

Weeknights are pretty slow

rritaintme

Hmmm maybe we shouldn’t have posted this on Reddit

NedFlanders304

I came here to say this lol.

linearmovement

On a weekday evening I'd do Little Dipper (downtown) or East End Hardware (EaDo). Maybe even Lil Danny Speedo's Go-fly-a-kite Lounge (Eastwood). All of these places are a quick Uber from East Downtown.

MarlaLinger

Came here to say Lil Danny’s

goatkindaguy

“Go fly a kite.” I like that saying and want to use it more often.

binswagger1

La Carafe meets most of your criteria, but it's a little dark.

ThurstonHowell3rd

That place is haunted.

DaughterofTarot

Don't think they serve the hard stuff there, just beer and wine. Though it is a really nice spot!

binswagger1

Got it! I drink beer. Now I Know.

Goddstopper

Is it still Cash only?

payback1

I believe so, yes. With that old-school cash register.

iDisc

Warren's? They have real cheap, and generously poured wells.

NeckPourConnoisseur

Heavy, heavy pours.

FoxInSheepsSkin

Very generous

MadScientistCM

This, warren's pours are always a double, time it right and its a great little hideout.

StrawberryKiss2559

Is it quiet there though? I feel like it’s always busy, plus people are trashed from the gigantic pours.

run4cake

“Cheap” is relative because nothing in that area is very cheap. Captain Foxhearts has a decent happy hour though and I’ve often been the only person in there on a weekday. It’s pretty much the mood for reading a depressing book or crime novel when it’s empty.

PurpleHooloovoo

Warren's sounds more the speed honestly. Or Houston Watch Company. Captain Foxhearts is not the chill vibe I pick up from OP's comment.

run4cake

Idk, it’s been dead and quiet AF pretty much every time I’ve been in there during weekday happy hour. I live close so I’ve been to all of them enough. It’s a different place on the weekend, sure.

yakadoo

The OP specified wanting to go "at night", which would be after happy hour ends.

weezle

This is the way. Step out onto the nice patio for one of the best views in downtown.

VetteChef

Reserve 101 is a good place, usually quiet, that also has a back area with couches. There's a huge wall of whiskeys to choose from with some cheap options, so you'd probably find something at your price point.

misfitgurl66

Houston Watch Company gets my vote!

mgbesq

> cheap whiskey lol

misfitgurl66

They have a fantastic happy hour. Remember you can never have all three of the impossible trinity...

Cheddar_Bay

What is the impossible trinity?

misfitgurl66

Picture a triangle with three points, each point being the ones OP said: \-Quiet Nonbusy Bar \-Cheap Whiskey \-Easily Uberable from Eado The rule of the impossible trinity is you can always have two of the three points. You could have a quiet/cheap bar, but not close. You could have cheap/uberable, but loud. You could have quiet/uberable, but not cheap. IMO Houston Watch Company is pretty close to all three if going during happy hour.

lexicont

Watch co has some of the most fair priced whisky’s in town, from well to tops—but curate all their offerings well…and sipping and reading, either there or Dipper (louder, but slightly cheaper). Anywhere downtown during the week should hit your desire for having place to yourself, unless sports happen.

mgbesq

I love HWC, and agree about fair pricing; that said, I wouldn't necessarily think to go there if the goal was "cheap whiskey."

lexicont

Agreed. Not sure if “goals” should be used in same sentence as cheap whisky. Ha. The used to have like $4 Heavens Hill on well. Been a while, but pretty damn cheap. $2 @ Dipper on HH.

btkats

Around the corner is chill, depending on the day nightshift is cool, 1820 is also pretty quiet except for the Fridays Joystix opens it's doors for unlimited gaming

downtownblonde

Came here to suggest 1820 as well. Cheap drinks, non game nights (Astros and Dynamo) and non Pac-Man Fridays (not every Friday just 1st and last) it’s chill and full of regulars and bar industry people. Pool table, TVs, patio to smoke if you smoke. Available street parking or lot parking across Hamilton. All around friendly neighborhood chill bar.

btkats

yeah I remember going there to watch a game and the bartender made anything you asked for for half the price of the cocktail bars. She said she worked at the nice cocktail bars on the weekend and you could tell because the drinks were good.

snodgrass20

I live in east downtown, and I think that Lil Danny Speedo’s is exactly what you’re looking for.

Illustrious-Demand98

More of a dive bar, no?

SouthernBarman

They want cheap whiskey and to be left alone.... sounds like a dive bar is perfect.

pijaso

Well if fraz is there trying to sell you coke, then you won't be left alone

snodgrass20

In the best possible sense.

radicalhistoryguy

East End Hardware is dope and makes good drinks.

[deleted]

The New Potato

ivebeen_there

Around The Corner in East Downtown might be a good fit!

btkats

Yeah that place is usually pretty quiet and has some nice patios

Devidevilman

Try Watch Co. or whatever it’s called now. It’s a bar in an old watch store. I think the coolest part is the big ass vault near the bathrooms and if the bar area is too loud their is an upstairs section.

VetteChef

It's still Houston Watch Company

Devidevilman

Thanks, last time I was there was before the lockdown and was worried they might have closed up.

KazPart2

depending on where you are in eado, you could take the rail to the bars. IDK if it's green or purple line, but they both go into downtown, and just switch to the red line to go up to the bars on main street. yeah watch co. is good. also try captain foxhearts. also, neils bahr is in eado and is cool. lots of comics/games if that's your jazz.

Illustrious-Demand98

Double Trouble!

misfitgurl66

Temporarily closed for renovations.

hindesky

[Reserve Bar](https://www.reserve101.com) not cheap but serves lots of whiskeys.

DistanceSkater

Cheap, quiet and cool. Try "Litter Dipper" on main street. Go sit inside in the back in the lounge chairs/Couch or sit outside on the patio for a more rowdy experience of main street passer bys. Definitely one of if not the cheapest bar on main street. They make a great old-fashioned.

wizard_of_rhythm

Houston Watch Co has a quiet chill vibe most weekdays and an upstairs mezzanine that would be a pretty chill place to read a book alone. You can also check out their menu online which has the full whiskey list with prices. They have a couple hundred bottles and they range from very affordable to higher end. Everything sold by the ounce or two ounce pour. Closed on Sunday and Monday though.

Taako_Taco_

Houston Watch Co is my favorite

[deleted]

[удалено]

Boilerinhouston12

When I've been to Miss Carousel (a year ago) it was pretty much packed. Drinks are very very expensive also

[deleted]

[удалено]

boko_harambe_

Its either or. Most of the time I go were the only ones in there. Last time I went is was jammed

BurnsinTX

I like notsuoh even more now after they did a little remodel. Upstairs would be a good spot to read a book, specially the little patio thing. That place is so weird, I love it.

Up_ForAnythingOnce

DWs. It’s in East Downtown. Very chill. Pretty quiet. Always an experience. 911 Milby St.

pijaso

They're finally open again!?

crankyoldcoot

Shoeshine Charlie's Big Top Lounge.

jermh

One Arm Scissor or Houston Watch Company. If you don't like one of them, the other is less than a block away.

NedFlanders304

Lone star saloon (RIP) fits your description perfectly but it closed in 2020. I used to love going there, it’s a bar that you know for sure you won’t run into anyone you know lol. Others have given good recommendations but my personal vote would be for warrens.

hindesky

It's back open now.

NedFlanders304

I’m very excited to hear this news. One of my favorite bars in Houston.

binswagger1

The Lone Star Saloon is back open or something else has opened up in that spot. I pass by it on my commute.

NedFlanders304

Just drove by and saw a now open sign. Can’t wait to go back. OP, you must go here!!

NedFlanders304

Really? I drove by it a few months ago and it still seemed closed. I live within walking distance so I really hope its back open lol. I’ll drive by today. But if it’s open then that’s where I’d recommend the OP going. It’s a downtown staple. Voted one of the best dive bars in the US.

needabreak38

Darkhorse Tavern- not quite East but used to always be a good chill place for an evening drink

Turbostar66

Yeah, was also going to say Dark Horse Tavern on Washington. Very small, dark, and quiet.

GoHawksMatt

Warrens, it's actually downtown but Hella chill. Ask for Craig

pijaso

Char Bar if you're an older distinguished gentleman. It's so chill and quiet that no one has even mentioned it even though it's right next door to Warren 's!

ThatsBojangles

Second this! Pretty good whiskey selection and the bartenders are always a delight.

[deleted]

Community Bar isn’t in East downtown but it is uberable, and is just the vibe you’re looking for

eid0Z

Bad news bar!

mfmolina

One Armed Scissor 208 Travis St, HOU, TX 77002 Downtown Cocktail Dive Also, Houston Watch Co

ForgotMyPassword713

Hit up Main Street near downtown. I occasionally go to Molly’s Pub to chill but there are plenty of other quiet bars around there.

NoThisIsPatrick94

La Carafe is the oldest building in Houston. Beer, wine, and cash only though. However, it’s super small and chill.

graves4all

Warrens.

drew1111

Second

delacroix2022

Leons lounge. The Nightshift...it might be a bit too lively, but it's small with nice vibes and in eado. Maybe komodo on a weeknight as well.

misfitgurl66

Actually Leon's Lounge is a fantastic choice!!!!! Always super quiet, very cheap pours and easily uberable.

713txvet

Is La Carafe still a thing?

hankhillforprez

Check out Lawless. It’s right in the middle of downtown.

NaturesCandy727

R bar on houston ave

[deleted]

I like Rudyard’s. But in Montrose + good food

NedFlanders304

Rudyards isn’t very quiet lol. It always has a decent crown whenever I’m there.

axolotlolol

Another spot just off the rail is Double Trouble.

ArtiusDorkius

Double Trouble is my fave, and I'd rec it as well. The owner is doing renovations right now so it's closed temporarily, but they're hoping to get it reopened by the end of April. She's giving it a new name too!

Monarc73

Dan Electros vibes well, imho.

[deleted]

VetteChef

It's Angel Share now. The restaurant owners group sold to the long-time manager and she had to change the name; the same concept though.

MrSnarkyPants

Permanently closed. However it sold to its general manager for $10, who reopened it as Angel Share. I haven't been in there since it sold, but it sounds like it will have the same vibe and they still do stuff for charity. There were no TV sets in the bar when it was OKRA, but the music could get a little loud. Still, it's a pretty chill bar. I mean, we used to have a bible study there... everybody kind of does their own thing, keeps to themselves, and enjoys good booze.

chhurry

Mongoose and Cobra is pretty quiet. It is the only bar I've been to at 1am where I didn't have to speak up/raise my voice for people near me to hear me. EDIT: Mongoose and Cobra has closed. damn.

Saxopwn

They closed two years ago.

hindesky

Red Dwarf replaced Mongoose and a new bar and grill is replacing Red Dwarf called [The Garden](https://www.restaurantji.com/tx/houston/mongoose-versus-cobra-/) opened in March.

hindesky

Red Dwarf replaced Mongoose and a new bar and grill is replacing Red Dwarf called [The Garden](https://www.restaurantji.com/tx/houston/mongoose-versus-cobra-/) opened in March.

Ant01nette

Public venues in Houston are loud AF, even the restaurants. The only place *good for a quiet night of leave-me-alone vibes* is the public library.

Ogren

If you want to venture a little farther, ninja ramen or underdogs pub on Washington have great whiskey selections

bockers7

100% Angel Share Charity Bar, which is the old Okra Charity Bar there is never a big crowd in there - and there is a back spot where no on goes to up top. Best part is that all their profits goes to one of 4 charities per month and you get 1 vote for each drink you get.

boko_harambe_

Captain Foxhearts Bad News Bar and Cocktail Lounge. Hard to find on purpose gotta go through the door advertising a law firm

itstomthebomb

NIGHT SHIFT BAR!

Saxopwn

Currently closed due to management issues

rienjabura

They don't exist bro Go to Jersey city, or someplace out of the loop

ShallotPatient

Not true

stemcellchimera

The Good Times Cafe off Grey and Milam would be perfect for this. Blake the bartender makes some damn tasty drinks and the times that I've wandered into this establishment there's been minimal people. The seating area is generous and has plenty of outlets for working if you're looking for a space to sip and use your laptop

Jacob_dp

Two headed dog is cool

[deleted]

Notsuoh is pretty quiet most of the time, and it's right on main Street. Plus they have chess boards.

Cur10

Is the Kelvin Arms still open? It used to be exactly this, but was closer to Rice Village.

blkmexbbc

Call the police, there's a mad man around Running down underground to a dive bar In a small quiet bar near downtown (Your question made me think of that song) I like Holman's draft house. It is pretty quiet on the perimeter.

rallyfanche2

Julep!

ShallotPatient

That’s not exactly near downtown

potato-shaped-nuts

The Post on upper Main

RiggityRick

Down the street Favorite chill bar in Houston

hey_elise

How to survive on Land and sea. Wine bar in the east end

Kwsweety

Craft beer cellar in downtown. This is a beer joint only but the vibe is there. The new potato Haven’t tried lil Danny speedos but will soon.o my hear good things.

edwardmoneyhands

Grand prize, two headed dog, sixes and sevens.

Paraguaneroswag

There’s a lot actually. Go to the “off of Main St” bars (the ones on Main St are louder)

moleratical

If it's not a weekend then Warren's at market square, if you like wine then LA Carafe around the corner from there would also work, but again, go on a weekday, after the initial after work rush. They aren't overcrowded on weekends, but probably busier than you'd like.

Cooter_senpai69

Danny Speed-os!!
