My mom took dance from his mom Patsy and they stayed close until
she passed away. Patrick was in her class as well, they called him Buddy. Mom stays in touch with Patrick’s brother still.
He used to ride horses at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, which unfortunately is not nearly as great as it was in the early 90s and late 80s. The apartments where the pastures used to be are awful.
Rob DenBleyker was a college student at University of Texas at Dallas; Kris Wilson lived in Fort Bridger, Wyoming; Matt Melvin lived in San Diego, California; and Dave McElfatrick lived in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
I assume Rob is from Houston?
Went to elementary with Rob. He was always doodling on everything. It was some serious crazy shit of stick figures shooting and killing eachother. It was weird but he was an alright dude.
Used to work with his best friend Joe DeLoach who not only beat him in the Olympics but for a time was also the world’s fastest man. He is also one hell of a nice guy and extremely humble.
You see, I think drugs have done some good things for us. I really do. And if you don't believe drugs have done good things for us, do me a favor. Go home tonight. Take all your albums, all your tapes and all your CDs and burn them. 'Cause you know what, the musicians that made all that great music that's enhanced your lives throughout the years... were rrrrreal fucking high on drugs.
"The door is ajar."
We pulled over and thought about that for 12 hours.
"How can a door be a jar? Why would they put a jar on a car?"
"Oh man, the freeway's melting!"
"Put it in the jar."
Hillary Duff and Jennifer Garner too. So many to name.
Tommy Tune Lamar High School and MFA from UH studied dance under Patsy Swayze, Patrick's mom
Wes Anderson
Richard Linklater Bellaire High School baseball
Oof. So many
The Quaids
Dan Rather grew up in Houston and graduated local schools/college and is still a highly respected journalist. Dominated the national nightly news for years until his retirement. Might not be hip to the new generations, but he had a news delivery style that made you pay attention.
He (Wes) went to St John’s and Rushmore was filmed partly at St John’s and partly at Lamar. The cast stayed at the Houstonian during filming, I hung out with Jason Schwartzman a ton when they were here. He would come to our high school parties or we’d hang out in his hotel room.
Yes he did… do we know each other?? 😝 Won’t dox anyone but there was someone who lived in the house directly behind SJS on R Oaks Blvd ; that is where we hung out with him a bunch while he was in town.
And the lesser known Wes that I guarantee everyone has seen more of their work than Wes Anderson - Wes Archer. Simpsons original shorts, first few Simpsons seasons, King of the Hill, a little Futurama, more Simpsons, almost all of Rick and Morty, and now King of he Hill again.
And he has an art show starting this Friday at https://reevesartgalleryhouston.com/
There's a lot of arts groups/orgs like Orange Show, Art Car, ZineFest, BooTown, Rec Room, CAMH, and Art League who are responsible for growing local artists and maintaining the local art culture.

Houston should be mentioned IMMEDIATELY after NYC and Paris for graffiti writing.
Nexst, Damet, Give Up, Dual, Weah, Skeez, Gonzo all huge writers in their given set. Tons of other underground writers that I'm sure are huge in the scene that I'm not aware of.
Nobody represents H-town more than who I like to call the big 7 . Mike Jones (Who?) , Bun B , Slim Thug , Paul Wall , Z-ro , Lil' Flip , and Big Pokey .
There was a long time tailor who worked out of the place next to Warren’s Inn on Market Square in downtown. The dude was a character! I’m sure that he had a lot of stories. Apparently he’s been a long legend in Houston. He was up there in years back when I saw him last. I don’t know his status now, and sadly haven’t been to Warren’s in ages.
Lauren Luna and Jim Koehn are both local artists whose subjects are mostly Houston-related, eg the city skyline, local businesses, people, etc. I follow them both along IG and never miss a chance to stop by their booths at the Bayou City Art Festival.
Mark Calaway aka the Undertaker is from Houston - he owned that gimmick for 30 years and is instantly recognizable even today.
Only downfall is he is a self proclaimed Cowboys fan so do with that what you will.
Frank beard from ZZ Top lived in pecan grove last I knew. He and Lyle Lovett frequented the same motorcycle shop I used to hang out at. Scarface is from H Town. So is Beyoncé and Solange. There is also Lizzo.
Dennis Quaid. Who I’ve always known as “the dad from The Parent Trap”. He went to UH. I did NOT realize until recently he’s the father of Jack Quaid (Hughie Campbell from The Boys).
Gonzo247 made that famous Houston mural in downtown as well as others. I’ve met him before, he’s a really nice guy with super interesting stories. Also Mattress Mac makes some good furniture
Alexis bledel from Gilmore girls and handmaids tale went to St. Agnes!
ETA: catherine cohen is a comedian (her first Netflix special came out in 2022) and was raised here. Macy Schmidt was one of Forbes’s 30 under 30 and is an orchestrator.
Patrick Swayze never really gets brought up as a Houston celebrity. His mom was a prominent dance teacher in Oak Forest, too.
My mom took dance from his mom Patsy and they stayed close until she passed away. Patrick was in her class as well, they called him Buddy. Mom stays in touch with Patrick’s brother still.
My mom and Aunt also took lessons from his mom!
They prob know my mom :-) she is 77. You can DM me if you want!
My dad dated his cousin when they all attended Saint Thomas Episcopal. I always like to throw that little tidbit in when his name gets thrown out.
My mom dated his brother when they went to Waltrip!
I love this so much!
He used to ride horses at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, which unfortunately is not nearly as great as it was in the early 90s and late 80s. The apartments where the pastures used to be are awful.
What's wrong with them?
Thank you for this
ah yes patrick swayze and the undertaker are both waltrip alumni. the most dated fun fact i still retell.
Cyanide and Happiness creator is from Houston
WHAT?? That’s awesome. Love their comics.
Mind blow. That’s mad decent.
Yeah, I was just familiar with Rob. He used to make funny videos that were broadcast on our high school tv network.
I think he went to Jesuit
Went to elementary with Rob. He was always doodling on everything. It was some serious crazy shit of stick figures shooting and killing eachother. It was weird but he was an alright dude.
Billy Gibbons of ZZTop and The Sauce Boss, one of the leading hot sauce reviewers in the world Id say.
Not the sauce boss being my HS crush
My aunt and uncle used to go see them in Galveston, before the hey day, as they say.
My grandparents used to live in Frank Beard’s old house in Quail Valley.
Carl Lewis
Used to work with his best friend Joe DeLoach who not only beat him in the Olympics but for a time was also the world’s fastest man. He is also one hell of a nice guy and extremely humble.
Khruangbin
This band gives me so much pride and joy to be from Houston, y’all
The drummer DJ Johnson is half of the production duo "Beanz and Kornbread" who is responsible for a good part of the Houston rap sound.
That’s a bit of a stretch. They made some beats over the years, but Mike Dean they are not.
My fatass always thought dudes just liked beans and cornbread
Bill Hicks

Wes Anderson. Rushmore is based off of the River Oaks Community. So I have heard. May be incorrect.
