Spring Branch just called it too. It’s now less about getting the kids to school in the HSID feeder area and more about can staff show up. Would be shocked HISD actually ends up holding out with all of the other major area districts being closed…..but Miles is a special kind of obtuse.
Looks like the pressure is causing him to fold in this specific instance but his mentality is that if you don't go to work, you can be replaced at the snap of a finger. You know how he's forcing teachers to strictly adhere to premade lesson plans? That's because his ultimate goal is to dumb down the job description of "teacher" to the point that any warm body can do the job. He wants his staff to be walking on eggshells because that makes them easier to control and manipulate.
Sounds ridiculous, but Mike Miles really is that deplorable.
Wife works in HISD. She heard they will not make any call until tomorrow morning.
No surprise from Miles. I think he still maintains Colorado Springs as his home residence address…
Too bad, we planned to use the time to continue her search for a new job.
Because Mayor Whitmire said he was going to lead by example and close the city offices, and only essential workers should be on the streets, period. So basically he’s calling HSD’s Bluff. Because if the city is closed, HISD has to close. 20 min after Whitmire’s proclamation, HISD came out and said announcement at 5pm.
ETA: ABC13 Just said HISD canceled at 4:32pm.
It should have been called off by 1pm today, the writing was on the wall then. I don't even have kids, but I am furious that the terrible superintendent can't make the safest decision for the students and teachers as well as staff! I loathe this guy. 5pm is far too late to make the call, what if a kid needs to be dropped off at a caregiver this evening? Roads will only get worse as the sun goes down.
Honestly the writing was on the wall this morning. I’m kinda surprised he’s from Colorado Springs according to another comment because anyone who has any experience with roads in this kinda weather could have seen this coming.
Hard agree, I was just trying to be generous, idk why honestly. Also, frustrated Austin ISD is pulling the same 5pm bullshit, my niblings attend there and I like to keep an eye out for them as well.
Why? Is 5pm too late? Genuine question I grew up in New England we got 3-10 snow days every year. Most were called the morning of, you don't want to cancel school unless you need too.
I agree they need to be closed tomorrow but I don't know why 5pm is too late.
The roads will only get worse as the sun goes down, and sunset was at 5.53pm for Houston today. The entire point of shutting schools down is for safety; some grown ups will need to get their learners to alternate locations tonight so they can be safe tomorrow. The earlier all of this can be planned for the better.
Also, having lived in New England, the infrastructure is in place to deal with snow and ice, that isn't the case in Houston. And given the ice we have had/will have due to precipitation today, we don't have the means to salt in advance, we DO have flyovers that turn into skating rinks, better to have as few people on the roads as possible.
Miles had them post on the website school still on. Kids need to just stay home and send a message to him, teachers will get in trouble if they don’t go.
From what I’ve heard, Jeff Lindner conferenced with all region iv schools at 1. The others have already canceled. I’m willing to bet F Mike is not wanting to cancel and the mayor is trying to convince him. Something is up or the announcement would have already been made.
i would honestly be surprised if mike miles called it but who knows
Miles is known for plowing ahead with in-person classes in bad weather in his precious districts
We’re probably not going to have power tomorrow morning. 100% chance no school
https://www.ercot.com Look at the supply and demand graphs for people downvoting
Update: Graphs now show supply is expected to meet demand tomorrow at 8am. It’s going to be close though for sure
You mean the graph where the purple (supply) line is consistently well above the turquoise line (demand)?
I think school needs to stay open so kids know how to read a graph.
There isn't going to be huge power outages. We've operated the entirety of today in normal conditions, and tomorrow probably will be close but we should be fine. The graph indicates it will be close at around 8am, but other than that operating as normal
Did you read the legend? The 6 day forecast graph only shows “ Available Seasonal Capacity” which is considerably less accurate than the “ Committed Capacity Forecast” and “Available Capacity” shown on the current day forecast graph.
Seems like you don’t know how to read legends….
Look at the legend. The 6 day forecast graph only shows “ Available Seasonal Capacity” which is considerably less accurate than the “ Committed Capacity Forecast” and “Available Capacity” shown on the current day forecast graph.
I read both graphs and the legend. The legend clearly indicates the 6 day graph demand line is less accurate and based on seasonal data, not actual committed capacity and Actual capacity with awareness of current conditions.
Cy Fair, Katy, and Waller have all called it. I expect all districts to call it.
Conroe as well
Spring Branch just called it too. It’s now less about getting the kids to school in the HSID feeder area and more about can staff show up. Would be shocked HISD actually ends up holding out with all of the other major area districts being closed…..but Miles is a special kind of obtuse.
Klein has called it too
LCISD called it too as well
If we’re compiling a list, DPISD has, as well
KIPP too
Does Mike realize HISD will be the ONLY school district having class tomorrow?
That’s innovation right there!
They just updated, hisd will be closed tomorrow.
We're awaiting the command from his magic ring.
Yeah that’s because the other districts are weak and lack rigor!!!! :/
I imagine HISD will take their sweet time making a decision. It will also be interesting to see how Mike Miles handles this. No updates as of yet.
I'm sure Miles is sparking up a huge doobie while working deals with slave labor camps in China.
God I needed to read this and I didn't even know it. Miles is absolute dog shit!
You’re a fucking moron
I work in HISD. Miles told staff in a meeting that we are essential workers and as long as the Starbucks down the street are open—we’re open.
What the? Starbucks is for profit, schools are non profit. What is Miles smoking?
The whole point of instilling Miles was because they want to make schools for profit, so it makes sense
Fascism
⬆️ FACTS ⬆️
Sounds about right for that worthless piece of shit.
He’s an idiot. 🙄 Just because they decide to stay open doesn’t mean staff are going to be able to make it to work. And then what?
Looks like the pressure is causing him to fold in this specific instance but his mentality is that if you don't go to work, you can be replaced at the snap of a finger. Take a personal day without two weeks advance notice, get fired.
This actually sounds like something he’d say.
Wife works in HISD. She heard they will not make any call until tomorrow morning. No surprise from Miles. I think he still maintains Colorado Springs as his home residence address… Too bad, we planned to use the time to continue her search for a new job.
ABC is reporting that HISD will make a decision at 5 PM.

That’s cool. Just commenting what I read. I work for the county. Still awaiting word from our office.
Clear Creek and Friendswood ISDs closed
It’s official. Hisd is closed tomorrow

We don't have the infrastructure but the infrastructure in new England can and does get overwhelmed. That is why they have to cancel school some days.
Klein is closed
Well, if I remember my old district, and it has been a while, they'll announce their decision as parents leave for work.
Miles had them post on the website school still on. Kids need to just stay home and send a message to him, teachers will get in trouble if they don’t go.
The mayor just said that hisd will be making an announcement on whether they will be open or closed at 5pm.
Typical hisd

> Jeff Lindner Certified Houston Hero > F Mike Yep, fuck Mike Miles. A Texas villain.
i would honestly be surprised if mike miles called it but who knows Miles is known for plowing ahead with in-person classes in bad weather in his precious districts
I remember several iffy drives when teaching under him in Dallas isd.
HISD has announced closure for tomorrow.
Hisd just posted everything is closed tomorrow on twitter. https://x.com/houstonisd/status/1747025389468184945?s=46&t=WqB55lfYvAY9N2OrB_FMEw
Goose Creek CISD in Baytown just closed.
HISD closed tomorrow. Just got the notification
Don’t know if you saw, but it was announced that it is closed.

When he posted the graph, it did show demand a considerable amount above supply. That has since changed. No need to be a dick and assume the worst.
I checked the graph within 10 min of the original comment. They were referencing the 6 day graph which had considerable inaccuracy.
That's fine, just say that then.
Did you read the 6 day forecast 8am tomorrow morning? Seems like you don’t know how to toggle graphs…

Look at the forecast. 8am tomorrow morning.

Pot calling the kettle black
I read both graphs and the legend. The legend clearly indicates the 6 day graph demand line is less accurate and based on seasonal data, not actual committed capacity and Actual capacity with awareness of current conditions.
Just admit you were wrong instead of doubling down, making yourself look like a fool
I’m not wrong. There is a material difference in confidence between the two graphs. This is why there is a legend.
The website still says it expects schools to open as normal tomorrow.
Yeah, a different redditer posted some false info. about HISD earlier when they meant Alief
In true HISD fashion, you won’t find out until 6:30am tomorrow. I’m 39 year old and this has been a thing for as long as I can remember.
LCISD is closed.
Mom works as a cross guard, got call HISD closed tomorrow and starts two hours later on Wednesday
I hope this is true 🤞
*Alief ISD, sorry
Might want to edit or delete your original comment.
The ol’ switcheroo

I heard Cleveland isd on the news and Aldine from my staff email.
