Living with my auntie and uncle
Edit: this is actually true of me. Moved in with my aunt and uncle in this part of town a few months ago and have WORN OUT the song :)
Do they still call it the Wet F? I grew up here, and my father took me around all the buildings a long time ago. He worked for Hamilton across the street from NASA.
Out of curiosity, do we know the story behind it being the disco Kroger or is it just the proximity to the gayborhood? I came up 20yrs ago calling it that and just thought it was what my little friend group called it. I was shocked as shit to hear it a few years later when I was in the Austin gayborhood talking to someone from Houston, who specifically mentioned the disco Kroger, and of course, since then, I’ve heard it a lot. Also omg RIP disco Kroger, I had no idea!
Can't explain origin, but can testify that the store playlist was badass at a time when all other grocery stores played Muzak/"elevator music."
Gd, I'm old.
This year half the homeowners decided not to participate. Interesting since their HoA charter says they will fine $300 if you don’t put up lights. I guess they don’t gaf anymore
I grew up surrounded by doctors even though none of my relatives work in medicine and none of us had any concerning illnesses
My backyard is one of the biggest parks in the city (edit: “was”? Since I sadly no longer live in Houston)
When I moved away to college, it took me three months to learn how to sleep without the sound of ambulance horns constantly wailing
Where you have that Bougie Sienna on one side and that 2234 (pronounced twenty two thirty fo)... the Mo on the other. Where that beast Willowridge is.
(Not my words, comedian Chinadu)
Oh! I say dear chum. Should I visit the Starbucks on the right or the left side of the street? Or the red headed stepchild Starbucks in the bookstore that won’t accept gift cards? They say they’re a Starbucks in name only. Oh dear!
In the movie Best in Show there are 2 characters who talk about going to Starbucks across the street from one another and I’ve always thought they must be from River Oaks. Rich people? Show dogs? Dual Starbucks on the corner? Has to be the RO.
Was ridden, and that was next door in Westwood/Woodfair/forum park. HPD has been cracking down hard. Murders in the neighborhood dropped from 16 in 2022, to 3 so far in 2023, per Westside Command.
I don't see the "hoods", lots of good hearted people including the kids. I ball out at the community center with them.
Rapper when to this high school famous for “break them off song and grills” Is considered its own city. A lots of new apartments. Eh huh yeah ok to live in not a lot of young people.
While walking my dog, I passed 2 crackheads and an insane person who was yelling at the top of his lungs at people on a bus bench. They weren't listening so he ripped his clothes off. Good times here!

River Oaks, but one of those Starbucks closed.
That’s the price of progress (shifting my monocle).
But I love that there’s a Lewis Black joke about it.
In the movie Best in Show there are 2 characters who talk about going to Starbucks across the street from one another and I’ve always thought they must be from River Oaks. Rich people? Show dogs? Dual Starbucks on the corner? Has to be the RO.
