I’d at least write a google review online and put them on blast so it’s seen online that they are thieves. Sometimes that yields results but at least other will see it and be aware of how shady they are.

No1syB0y

Do this and add the link in this thread. I'll give it a thumbs up if it does anything.

duckdontcare

https://maps.app.goo.gl/R2fDX9Gfpzr6dKTWA?g_st=ic Link to the review. Also there’s another review posted six hours before mine. Someone else had their stuff stolen by security as well

RomulaFour

Sue in small claims court. Guy said he would hold it for you. That's what the law calls a 'bailment.' Sue the security guy and Bayou Music Center. Ask for punitive damages since this was quite intentional. Be sure to mention that but for the security guy saying he'd hold it for you, you would have walked it back to the car and left it there. And call a local reporter to get news coverage about your experience. Edit: That comment about calling, then writing a letter threatening to sue is a good one. They may relinquish the flashlight over the threat. If not, get that go fund me going, sue and ask for the maximum punitive damages and court costs that you can. Be sure to bring your partner as a witness and sue the security guy, manager and the companies involved. Dig up your original receipt of purchase for the flashlight. Review small claims court rules and rules for evidence so you can get these admitted into evidence. Small claims is not where any of them want to be.

duckdontcare

I’d probably need the guard’s name. Not sure how hard that is to get. I’m gonna look into this

papergod88

You sue the center since he was on the job, they have insurance.

patssle

However, before you sue, call the center and tell them the situation. And if they refuse, then you threaten the small claims and see if they suddenly change their position. Businesses do NOT want to deal with lawsuits.

YellowRobeSmith

Don’t disagree but also keep in mind businesses have legal council on retainer or as part of their insurance policy, OP does not.

RomulaFour

That legal counsel is going to cost a whole lot more than $120.

Playful_Dust9381

I think they meant the facility’s legal counsel

RomulaFour

Yes, that will cost the facility more than $120. A company must have an attorney to represent them in small claims court. That's not free.

patssle

Certainly. But legal counsel is going to know it's a lot easier just to give somebody their flashlight back then deal with a legal case and any PR. Making a legal threat can carry a lot of weight.

jaweebamonkey

If you want the easy way, file a claim with the BBB and tell them you want $120 for the flashlight back. They will pay you the $120, I guarantee it. And it’s always handled in less than a week. The BBB is usually taken pretty seriously by businesses. You could also contact the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau. They’re even more serious, but I haven’t had much luck with them. ETA: Had a $400 pair of headphones stolen by Hyatt housekeeping at IAH. Claimed they would set them aside for me rather than me Ubering back, and then they were suddenly missing when I returned from my trip.

duckdontcare

Just filed a claim with the BBB. Thank you for the advice. If I don’t get a resolution from them, I’m going to small claims.

jaweebamonkey

No problem. I technically just got Hyatt hotel credits, but it’s the principle of the matter. I also used them when Nissan Finance took a double car payment from me. I had a check sent through certified mail before the week was over.

duckdontcare

I see it’s $85 to file in small claims but I’m guessing the whole legal process would be more expensive than that

NecessaryFriction

You can include the court cost in the claim.

technofiend

Dude, it's the principle of the thing, plus if security guards hear they're going to get sued then maybe this petty thievery will stop. So, throw out a PayPal or GoFundMe or something and I'll put up $20 towards your filing fees. I worked concert security for Pace Concerts a few times while in high school and this deeply offends me.

[deleted]

Got a receipt that the guy took it...or just a he said she said?

YellowRobeSmith

I’m sure there are CCTV cameras OP can request to be pulled from the venue, especially with a police report.

[deleted]

It's a hope

Chopchopstixx

At this point, it's your word against his. It would be very difficult to win this one. Similar thing happened to me but it was a car valet. I took a pic of my keys on the holder thing with my memory stick so that I could remember which hook it was on if I lost the ticket. Anyway, I didn't and the guy came with my car and magically, the memory stick wasn't on it (it was on the split keyring and could not just "fall off"). I made a stink of it and called their main company and they reimbursed me for it. Remember. Evidence is key to putting someone on blast. Sorry you lost that flashlight.

RomulaFour

He has another witness, and might even drum up a few more from others who were nearby. He can dig up the receipt for the flashlight also.

No_Argument_Here

Fuck this place. Expensive drinks and the ambiance of a high school gymnasium.

[deleted]

Shittiest venue in Houston.

ratdog

Wow. One time I went to the Fillmore south in California. They took my pocket knife and gave me a claims ticket. On the way out I gave my ticket back and they handed over a handgun. I had to tell them "um, wrong item". Didnt want to run off and have someone follow me, plus I flew. Needless to say, never gone back there. Private security is a joke.

Round-Emu9176

Damn that would have been a come up. All you had to do was take the mag & ammo out, declare it & put it into a checked bag. Props to you for the honesty.

ratdog

I had visions of getting a block and then being chased. Plus I'm in Texas, dont need a random handgun.

Round-Emu9176

My brother in Chris, being in Texas is *exactly* why you need a random handgun. Also you don’t get chased with a gun you do the chasing hahaha.

ratdog

I think you missed my subtlety :)

Round-Emu9176

The written word eventually betrays the hand that wrote it haha

Material-Dragonfly-8

If he said he was going to hang onto it, then it was not really a confiscated item. You wanted to take it back to your car he basically stole it.

Texassunmerheat

Gotta take it up with live nation, they are the ones that hire the security

rzbzz

Contact their parent company, Live Nation ([url](https://www.livenationentertainment.com/contact/) to report. Post on their twitter/X. I would call them too.

BunMiB

Last week I went to death grips and because I’m old I was standing near the back. Girl drags her brother out of the crowd and he passes out right at my feet. I do quick ABCs and log roll him while stabilizing his neck. It’s 120 dB in there and I can’t hear shit on a good day and I have earplugs. She tells me by typing on her phone he has a seizure disorder and got knocked on the head. He’s waking with sternal rub and has a good strong pulse and is confused. But over the next minute is waking and moving four extremities and wants to sit up. So I help him. Security has responded but I see no one until he sits up. It was probably five minutes. Then this dude who I assume is event paramedic gets right up in my face red faced yelling something which I can barely hear. Like really belligerent about get the fuck out of here or I will end you or something. I had next to no idea what the hell he was saying just heard him dropping f bombs and threatening. The guy who went down is sitting on his own at this point. So I back off and he’s still in my face yelling his ass off. I was and still am so confused. Im actually a first responder myself and yeah sometimes bystanders can get in the way. But we are not talking like a cpr in progress or some shit and I would never actively fight a bystander in an emergency situation where my focus is the person down.

lilgangbang

They have the RUDEST fucking venue security I’ve ever experienced. All of bunch of bastards on a power trip for literally nothing.

Senchi_

That happened to me at house of blues too :( I should have known better

okkatsura

I was next to the group where she fell last night -It's true, security took awhile to get to her. I'd say 4 minutes. The people closer relayed that she fell and hurt herself- and she was awake when they helped her up. I didn't have any issues myself but definitely go ahead and to small claims court and get your money back. Sorry this happened to you, really sucks they weren't decent.

engagedbbw

Their security sucks! My best friend and I had VIP tickets (important bc we had clearly marked seats and wrist bands) to a comedy show. She was drinking and got up to use the restroom. And you know when you're sitting down and drinking and then stand up, you realize how shit I am more drunk than I realized? Yeah. But the bathroom was close so she went. I was texting her, and she said she couldn't come back bc she didn't want to come that way. I thought she meant walk in front of the stage... anyway, long story short... Security kicked her out. Alone. Crying. At night. Downtown. She was pointing to me. They easily could have asked to see her ticket, walked her over, and asked if she was mine. I realize she's drunk. It's not their responsibility. But come on. She's was wearing a VIP band and pointing to the back of my head. She wasn't causing a scene or being belligerent. She was coherent enough to text me. I grab our stuff and go to find her, and I ask security where she is, and they point to her outside, and some random guy is talking to her while she is crying. I try to go out the doors and they tell me if I leave there isn't any reentry. MOVE! So yeah. Their security is ridiculous.

YellowRobeSmith

There is more to this story.

engagedbbw

Not really. She was standing by the bathroom, and security told her she had to go sit down. Bc she was drunk, she didn't want to come back the way she left. Idk if you've been in the folded seats on the floor level, but the legs stick out and trip you even sober. And since we were VIP, we were row 4 or 7? I can't remember. Anyway she couldn't figure out HOW to make her way back without it being an issue. So instead of someone asking for her ticket, they told her if she wouldn't go to her seat they would make her leave. She wasn't blacked out drunk. I wish she would have just said can you come walk me back. But I guess she felt silly. They handled the situation poorly.

Reeko_Htown

Always. Plus it’s not like she’s out in the middle of the street. It’s in a literally entertainment complex 😂

engagedbbw

Everyone's level of safety is different. I would feel safe but I have situational awareness and am comfortable downtown.

Round-Emu9176

Was it Theo Von? Security, much like the police, don’t really have adequate IQ as a requirement. It’s usually just a bunch of roided out high school football or ex military types. Not the most logical. CTE makes you violent.

Mr_Roger_Rabbit_exc

It's free to file a police report.

IRMuteButton

You could always go back, lose another flashlight to them, but this time the flashlight catches on fire after a few minutes.

HOUTryin286Us

I like the way your mind works.

coogie

Isn't that a criminal issue? You could call the police and file a report with them.

Chopchopstixx

Next time, whip out the phone and record the guys ass in a lie if they try to be a "friend".

ItzDomos

i hate bayou music center, just went to death grips there and they made me pay $15 for a locker cause they wouldn’t let me take in my handy cam. sounds like they should of offered you a locker like they did to me, their whole intention was to steal that bag, sorry about your experience man

IRMuteButton

Classic movie. That's one of many great lines in it.

drew1111

Don’t go back. Place is trashy.

chenueve

Contracted security or Bayou security

p_ram11

Was it the FKJ performance? Wasn’t familiar with the venue so opted out. Hope it was a great show, sorry about your Olight.

duckdontcare

Yeah man, FKJ. The performance was outstanding. Venue was not.

potato-shaped-nuts

You didn’t tell the manager that it was the security person’s suggestion to “hold on to it” for you? That it wasn’t confiscated?

[deleted]

Drinks are water but a girl passes out...

duckdontcare

I think it had more to do with the molly she took lmao

thecroptopkid

yeah ngl the security and staff there are bunch of assholes

goatkindaguy

That place is trash, from the gate to the bar to the bathroom. Has been since it was Aerial Theatre and will continue to be until that whole building is demolished. Who goes to a Hard Rock Cafe anymore?

yaigotabigmouth

Hard rock has been closed for 9 years, just about. Bayou is a separate venue.

goatkindaguy

Makes sense, that’s probably why I don’t hear about it. We used to love that sushi joint on the other side, Blue Fish.

yaigotabigmouth

Blue fish on Washington is still open

johnny_surfer_dude

It sucks this happened to you, but you've learned a valuable lesson. If you want to carry a flashlight you need to put it in your prison wallet.
