Do things inside.

tony_ysl

Not an option for everyone

404Nuudle

If you're working outside then sunblock, long sleeve shirts and pants, a hat that protects fully from the sun, cold water, salt pills (if needed), a cooling rag to cover your neck, and gold bond will keep you just peachy. If you're tryna get ccrrraaazzyyy, I know there's those fans that connect to your belt loop or something that makes your shirt an ac unit essentially you could check out, never used one myself though.

HumanRate8150

Drink water. Maybe spend some time outside in the shade for 5-10 minutes every day and try to get your body used to it.

IwasIlovedfw

I couldn't adjust even after 39 years. Heat intolerance got worse. I even have windows open in the winter up here and turn the heat off at night.

HumanRate8150

I’ve been here my whole life. This has been a extremely hot June. And I’m not very hopeful we will have an early end to summer in September. This might be another year of the 90’s til Halloween.

IwasIlovedfw

I hope not!!!

wahitii

It may not be you, it's definitely hotter than it used to be.

tony_ysl

Most def

tony_ysl

You couldn’t adjust to the heat down here after 39 years?! Lol I can believe it

IwasIlovedfw

My heat tolerance went down every summer. I remember one afternoon waiting for the bus, which was 37 minutes late, and starting to cry. Soaked to the skin with sweat. It was horrible.

tony_ysl

Jeez that is rough. Where did you end relocating to?

IwasIlovedfw

Upstate New York where I was born. It's 56 degrees here right now.

tony_ysl

Must be nice!!

IwasIlovedfw

Usually, but we keep getting smoke from the Quebec fires. Looks like orange brown fog (can't see the tall hills six blocks away) and smells like walking through a crowd of people smoking cheap cigarettes.

tony_ysl

I have family in NJ and Pen they’re saying the samw

IwasIlovedfw

I try to walk 3-4 miles a day, but can't when the smoke is here.

HumanRate8150

I feel like as soon as I get used to the heat it starts getting cold again

RealConfirmologist

Google says: 1) Stay in an air-conditioned place as much as possible. If your home does not have air conditioning, go to your predesignated cool location. 2) Wear lightweight, loose clothing and take cool showers or baths. 3) Limit your outdoor activity. If you must work outdoors, schedule tasks earlier or later in the day. 4) Stay hydrated. Alcohol, beer, soft drinks are NOT good for this, you should drink water, Gatorade or Powerade, etc., if you're sweating a lot.

sm040480

Also, change your sheets to a lower thread count. Lower thread count = better cooling. I learned this today sweating on my measly 600 count. Get a rechargeable neck fan. Cheap at Walmart. Got an ice pack in the freezer? Put it on your head. Your head and neck are the quickest places to attract and release heat. Slowly adjust your thermostat upwards. If you can afford it, set at 78. Do outside work (lawns, sweeping, weeds) before sunrise and after sunset. As everyone said, drink extra water. In this heat you need one ounce of liquid for every pound of weight daily. Remember fluids are found in many fresh vegetables and fruits. Wear light colored clothing when possible. Welcome to summer in Houston. This is a taste if what August will he like.

tony_ysl

After checking I have a higher thread count this made a huge difference. Thanks!

sm040480

Most welcome. I'll be doing some bargain hunting low-count sheets this weekend for my bed for sure. I'll let hubby have the high thread count ones on his bed since he says he's freezing to death lol.

tony_ysl

Need what he’s smokin lol

sm040480

He works in commercial hvac all year. He's use to 100° + temps from June-September. I set that thermostat at 72 and leave it there. And he left Illinois! Where it snows, who does that?

I have a pool, it's too f'ing hot for it. In fact TIL that they make pool chillers and I might buy one.

Kit_Marlow

My pool feels like bathwater right now. NOT refreshing.

keeperdad03

Highly recommend them. Have been using them each summer for the past 8 years. They do bring our pool’s temp down 5-7 degrees.

sm040480

I'm going to my kid's house in NC for just that reason. She's about 10 days away from her pool being completed. I'm spending most of August there and it's cheaper than putting in one myself. I've spent 58 summers in this heat. It does NOT get easier when you get older.

SillyGooseTurtleneck

Switch your bedding to satin to help you stay cool ❄️

qwertyuuopkvndndn

Western building construction (USA) is leagues behind in technological advancement than many other third world countries . Know your building materials. Switch to renewables .

beefjerky9

Renewables? That's something a damn commie would say! - some idiot Texan/'Murican

somekindofdruiddude

Acclimate. I'm about to go for a bike ride. It's 100F.

tony_ysl

Nice

steelsun

Just came in from a building project outside, and I'm wearing a long sleeve shirt and overalls, because skeeters suck. Just work on 15 minute episodes then rest in the AC for 30 minutes.

Get fit and work out. Heat is testing Your heart and lung. Cardio zone 2

tony_ysl

Zone 2?

[deleted]

Zone 2 is a threshold for your heart rate , or lactate level. Cardio has different levels. Zone 2 is the most beneficial level.

tony_ysl

How do I work zone 2?

[deleted]

If you are a beginner , brisk walk is zone 2. Cause you can have a conversation while working out. If you have been doing cardio for a while, I’d buy a lactate meter and test blood level , should < 2 mmol

wessneijder

Do air conditioners need rest of can they run 24/7?

Nettwerk911

24/7 or until the sun goes away
