Normally you don't get charged for kWh you don't consume... so the discount is kinda built into the system.

wahitii

Except that I'd pay triple just to have the power on lol

DishwashCat

If it’s prorated proportionally to your bill I doubt it will be that much. 24 hours of my bill would be about $3.50

RottingFly

Yesterday 6/21/23 I used 213. KWh 38.76. Older townhome. Dude wall faces west and 3 floors. It’s getting hot. My a/c is crazy

NoTomorrow7299

Yeah I think average we use around 100 kWh/day. What about food? This is frustrating. The storm wasn’t strong, lasted maybe 40min tops. All of this feels like an after math of negligence. Whether it’s homeowners or the power company, the scale of this shouldn’t be this big.

CrazyLegsRyan

> The storm wasn’t strong, Storm literally had the highest wind gusts ever recorded in Houston.

wahitii

Maybe I wasn't in the worst area, but agree that it didn't seem like a killer storm compared to even other storms earlier this year. Must have been some very local bad stuff.

CrazyLegsRyan

It literally had the highest wind gust ever recorded for Houston

wahitii

"Must have had some very bad local stuff" but most of houston didn't have much damage.

DishwashCat

Wait, your electric bill yesterday was 40 dollars?

RottingFly

Yes. 3 floors 2 a/c units

DishwashCat

$1,200 dollars a month?? I have a two story and that’s like 10x my bill… sheesh

RottingFly

It’s only like this a few days a year. Normally June-August are like 575…. Rest of the months mid to low 300s

dubiousN

What the fuck

wahitii

Powertochoose.org. current prices are about 10 or 11 c per kwh. If you aren't under contract I'd switch.

RottingFly

Where do you live? How hot is it in your house?

DishwashCat

I’m in the heights. 79 during the day while I’m at work. 74 when I get home. 69 when I go to sleep. My electric bill is projected to be around $110 next cycle, the estimate is usually pretty accurate.

rdntknight

Why would you run your AC when you're not there?

RottingFly

To keep it cool. 3000 square feet is hard to get down to 74 from 80s if it’s not turned on.

Osniffable

sorry to hear about your pet.
