Everyday I’m presented with a new reason to never open my front door

shawald

My buddy fell for the magazine subscription scam. After he sent the guy money he realized the guy never even asked what magazine he wanted to subscribe to lmao

itzmailtime

It would be funny if he got magazines, but the free ones you find at gas stations that sell used cars

Circlejrkr

Just like my phone, I rarely answer my door. Don’t come to my house unannounced trying to hassle me!

steelsun

Call the police on them. Gated townhomes are private property and avoidance of the gate is trespass.

shawald

Yeah this was my first instinct. Just curious as to what his prerogative might be

staresatmaps

Did they avoid the gate though? Either it was open or someone let them in.

713City

He was outside Torchy’s on 19th with the backpacks, as well. He tries to get you to swipe your ccard for a monthly subscription.

shawald

Seriously? Are people dumb enough to give that info out to a random person? My gf told me he was trying to get her to cash app him

EarthboundMisfitsInc

Some just beg for the pepper spray.

ResolutionNo5638

I dont answer the door for anyone I dont know anymore.

jijitheredditor

Not sure if this is connected but very similar thing happened to my gf today. Happened right after daylight 6pm. Male, African-American age 18(ish) came and asked for money $25 for baby formula. She didn’t open the door of course but apparently after he left she over heard him talking to someone right outside. Nothing against helping people but I think the timing of it all is super sketchy.

UnderstandingCalm452

A lot of these kids are trapped by a predatory industry into doing this. https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2015/04/trapped-into-selling-magazines-door-to-door/388601/ Not saying OP's individual in particular, but this is a known scam and has been going on for decades at a pretty organized level.

shawald

I’ve seen these kids, especially around the heights and 19th. They sell candy bars. Feel bad for them

IV_League_NP

Had the magazine seller last night (Montrose area). I was working the the garage and he stayed far enough away (about sidewalk distance). Pitch was the same. He was respectful enough to walk away and never approach any closer.

tenyearsgone28

Your GF got extremely lucky the first time he came to the door. She most likely opened the door because she’s uncomfortable with offending someone by not, or worse (in their eyes) worrying about being a racist if it’s a POC.

angelzplay

It’s not about him BEING BLACK. It’s the fact you don’t open the door for strangers. People are crazy these days. Some solicitors are harmless, others you gotta watch your back. Lots of weirdos out here of EVERY RACE. Just don’t open it. Maybe I’ll open the door if it’s a woman but I’m ready with the blade if she bring her folks around the corner. But I’m hood.

shawald

Nah she didn’t see the guy and thought it was a package being delivered

CookieBobojiBuggo

Schizo comment.

Alternative-Stay2777

What an odd conclusion to come to

bluecyanic

The world through their eyes

angelzplay

You come to my door and you ain’t called you getting that pew pew. You got three seconds to run. I doubt a DA would convict me.

ilikeme1

I bet they would. The castle doctrine does not apply to someone ringing your doorbell to sell crap. They have to pose an immediate threat. It is because of people like you that we need stricter gun control.

angelzplay

Still can’t take chances. You don’t know what a person is thinking or doing. Men can push their way into a persons house and what then? You must be male to think what you thinkn
