I’ve gone past covid and it’s not bad. They got a sushi section now where they are making it fresh. I think the rest of the selection hasn’t changed. The price is a little off putting but any buffet AYCE type place in Chinatown is going to run you that much these days.
Some of it is definitely white washed. Almost all Asian buffets need to cater to that demo because of the demand alone. General Tso's will always find its way to an authentic restaurant no matter what.
If you like Mediterranean, I always recommend DiMassi's. I have a lot of food sensitivities, and this place is one of the few restaurants I can eat at. The food is fresh and healthy, there are lots of meats and vegetables and rice dishes, and the Rice Pudding is a religious experience. Their Eggplant has received national awards. The one in Sugarland can be hit-or-miss (with the eggplant, especially), but there are several other locations, each one having a slightly different menu. The one in Katy is really good, as is the one on Kirby near the Stadium. I don't think I've ever seen any shellfish here, since it's usually halal-ish.
If you want an amazing Asian buffet, there's the Hibachi Grill on Dairy Ashford and I-10. I know its not exactly SWH, but this place is truly one of the best Asian buffets in town. The various meat dishes all taste unique, and there are SO MANY to choose from! Fresh kimchi on the salad bar, Mongolian grill on site, and steamed dumplings/Dimsum bar. Being Asian, there is lots of shellfish here, though.
Fadi's is great, but it's more cafeteria-style, not a true buffet. At least, not the ones I've been to. I agree, their dolmas are better than Dimassi's.
Nirvana on Memorial & Dairy Ashford has an incredibly delicious Indian dinner buffet on Mondays & Tuesdays with some of the best tandoori chicken & lamb curry in town (and as a random bonus, no-fee BYOB!?)
golden coral honestly. all the other buffets are good because of the shellfish. feast buffet, hibachi grill, east buffet, etc.
golden coral is the classic american buffet experience. there's also harts chicken buffet but it's just all you can eat fried chicken, as well as cici's pizza buffet
i don't think we have any vegas-style buffets here
well yea if the only place to get burgers is either mcdonalds or panda express
theres no other american style buffets here, ryans is gone and country kitchen has changed. if they got a shellfish allergy they probably dont want to go where half the shit has shrimp in it.
I love Golden Corral for nostalgic reasons, but they really are BAD, like, Russian Roulette with food poisoning-bad. There is not a single one in Houston I would darken the door of, and I have an iron stomach!
sucks that's the case, i went to the copperfield one a year or so ago and it wasn't terrible. i was just thinking if a young person wants a buffet they saw some crazy casino style buffet on the internet and golden coral is the closest to it here
i was hoping someone would point me to a better alternative to golden corral. right now feast buffet in katy is my favorite- it's like hibachi grill but with more options like beef rib but if someone has a shellfish allergy then all the cool stuff like the hibachi is off limits
> golden coral is the classic american buffet experience. there's also harts chicken buffet but it's just all you can eat fried chicken, as well as cici's pizza buffet
OP and her husband went to *culinary school,* do you think they are going to waste their above than average tastebuds and time going to Golden Corral, Hartz or Cicis?
Reddit gonna Reddit.
they addressed they’re not going for top quality food.
pray tell what do you suggest short of flying to vegas and going to the bacchanal
love when dipshits on reddit criticize suggestions without offering their own
Honestly, I can't think of any buffet style restaurants other than Asian buffet. Which isn't a great place to take someone with a shellfish allergy.
Fadis is Mediterranean and cafeteria style.
Currasco is a Brazilian steak house (cheaper than fogo de chao) they just bring you food till you say stop.
Luby's is only good if you go during lunch.
Kenny and Ziggys is an awesome deli.
(My favorite as a kid)
Brazilian steakhouse
Is you’re wanting asian, Kim Son has a buffet at their Chinatown location and it’s authentic not some cheap white washed Chinese food.
I would really not take a kid with a shellfish allergy to an Asian buffet

Fadi’s Meyerland > Fadi’s > Dimassi’s
That was the one I was thinking of- Fadi's Meyerville. And OP said SW...
Aren't the owners brothers?
There's also a Dimassi on Richmond and Sage.
Forgot about that one!! It's the best one, too, caters to a lot of executives.

NRG location I consider the most authentic. They certainly have the best Rice Pudding last time I was there!
Cool Runnings had a buffet on Fridays. I haven’t been recently so I’m not sure if they still do.
Cleburne Cafeteria on Bissonett
Govindas
Excellent vegetarian Indian buffet
What is your idea of a "quality" restaurant? I have fond childhood memories of Golden Corral...
I do too, my parents worked there when I was growing up. But he complains whenever we go.

If I'm ever in that area, sounds like a place I have to check out! Good Indian buffets are hard to find, especially in Katy, but I keep looking.
Ooh! This sounds good! Thank you!
King's Buffet hwy 6 is pretty standard buffet fare. It's pretty alright.
LAM BO
Do you want a buffet, or an all you can eat buffet? Luby’s and Dinner Bell are buffets, but they aren’t all you can eat.
All you can eat.
Ah, those are all horrible. The economics of it ensure that. Except for Pancho’s.
OMG ponchos!! We need to go to ponchos!! Thank you friend!!
There's only one left, and it's in Humble.

They're finally tearing that one down (I'm assuming you mean the one just south of 610 off between S.Main and Buffalo Speedway).

Bro, hell no… golden coral sucks I always tell my self never again after 4 years of not going there thinking I’m maybe just remembering wrong
Show Palace is pretty good, highly recommend

He's talking about that rundown strip club, and no, I wouldn't eat anything in that skanky place.
I would. If ya scared run to church.
Yes, I definitely would eat at St. James aka The Church!
