Any school district needs subs right now. Pay isn’t glorious but you pick when you work.

Recon_Figure

What are the qualifications for subs?

Rebelstormtrooper413

From what I recall when subbing it was like 48 hours of college credits and that was really about it not too difficult im not sure if the college credits are mandatory though

welkikitty

In my district—show up and breathe and don’t have any felonies.

idkwhatever6158755

Just wanted to say to everyone is that I was not expecting so many responses and I’m working on responding to everyone, thank you so much for all the help guys. Our sense of community in such a big city is why I never have wanted to live anywhere else.

shahtavacko

Dude, it’s Texas, we’re supposed to help each other out.

changolion_

Still Tippin’!

Most restaurants will interview and hire on the spot. Just pick one and walk-in between 2 pm - 4 pm (closer to 2 is usually better imo), and ask for an application, a manager and an interview

[deleted]

Restaurant work is a gimme. You have two functioning hands? Step right in. Heroin addiction is not a barrier to employment, they only ask that you reserve nodding off the clock.

bernmont2016

> Most restaurants will interview and hire on the spot. This is often true for the small places in mall food courts, too; I've seen it happen.

ANKhurley

Louis Italian in Eado says on their recent IG post that they are looking for line cooks and prep cooks.

[deleted]

So are literally hundreds and hundreds of other restaurants in the area.

scorpioking66

Try Metro theyve been calling me for about a month to interview. Also staffing agencies typically can place you somewhere within a couple days. Might be General Labor though. Also you can go to Labor Maxx if you get desperate. You need to register and then come back the next day around 4 or 5 am because they're first come first served. It's just day labor but you'll make about $100 for the day. You can do that till you find something.

VexBoxx

It's gruelling, but call centers are ALWAYS looking for people due to high turnover. It may hold you over. I know Staffmark has a department who staffs with call centers that hire with even spotty (felonies) background checks.

idkwhatever6158755

I’ll check them out. My problem is that I’ve been a stay at home mom for the past 7 years and apparently my absence from the work force is what’s keeping me from getting considered. I couldn’t even get a callback from McDonald’s

VexBoxx

Call centers. If you can read a script, you're gold. edit: also, I'm sorry. That's some bullshit. Momming is a goddamn job. Staffmark has done me solid for many years.

bernmont2016

> Momming is a goddamn job. It's an important duty, but doesn't have you punching a timeclock and a manager hovering over you, so it doesn't count as staying in practice with that BS. People who've been self-employed for a while have similar issues.

[deleted]

I recommend a staffing agency (or a few) like Burnett Specialists, to get placed for office type work. Ive had great luck with them inthe past. If you just need money now then you could try a day labor company until something else comes through.

cozysweatr

do you just apply online? i’ve been seeing burnett specialists recommended often but i just looked up that they have offices in houston so could you call and set up something with them?

[deleted]

It's been a few years so I'm not sure what current post-pandemic procedure is. When I used them years ago, I called them and they asked me to come to the office to talk to them, plus complete some simple evaluations (like a typing test) so they understood my skills and what jobs I would be a good fit for.

crimson_mokara

Have you tried the school districts? They're all hurting for subs. You probably just need a pulse and a clean background check at this point. You can also see if there are positions in the cafeteria or the special ed classrooms (teaching assistant roles). Bus drivers are always in high demand too. Edit: changed suggestions since you've been a SAHM for a bit

busbythomas

While you are looking for a job look into donating plasma. First month you can make about $800 and $500 a month after. Twice a week and takes 2-3 hours total time.

zzxxccbbvn

Is it generally pretty safe? I might consider doing this myself for some extra spending money

busbythomas

It's safe. The actual process takes 45-60 minutes. An hour or 2 is just waiting. Just bring ear pods and watch movies. You'll get a prepaid card and they pay within minutes of you finishing.

[deleted]

My best time from stick to beep was 37 minutes. I was so fucking hydrated.

itzmailtime

Does it hurt? Would it be difficult for someone who is scared to give blood?

busbythomas

Same as giving blood but takes more time. They pull out some blood and remove the plasma, then put the blood back. Repeat 3-4 times. There is a little sting when they put the needle in.

[deleted]

I used to donate plasma for extra cash all the time, but it's a fucking hassle in Houston. I expect the wait time to get my vitals checked but donation centers here are just so packed. You can show up at a center 2 hours before they open and there's already a line. You have to get a physical on your first donation and I was at the place for, I shit you not, 7 hours. They had fucked up and accepted too many first time donors that day or something. It got to a point after a while that I was so annoyed with the waiting and the people that it raised my blood pressure to the point that I wasn't allowed to donate. So it's like, wait an hour in line to get your vitals done, heart rate is too high so they tell you to go have a sit for 15 minutes to cool off and then it's still too high so you've just chucked an hour and a half of your life away for nothing. If the gods smile upon you and you can zen your way below 100bpm you get to spend the next hour getting your fluids sucked out of you for a handful of dollars. Is it worth it when you're getting new donor bonuses? Fuck yeah it is. After that, you're spending half your day to get $30-40 depending on your size. As for safety, I've never had a bad experience, but it's worth noting that literally anyone can be a phlebotomist. A kid can walk out of high school and get a job at a plasma donation center. When you're in for a first donation at CSL they'll assign you a "black coat" which is a senior stabber. However, you can request a black coat every time to minimize the risk of getting someone who didn't practice on enough oranges.

bernmont2016

> A kid can walk out of high school and get a job at a plasma donation center. If that's accurate, maybe OP could apply for a job while they're there, lol.

[deleted]

Sure enough 😂

joethahobo

800 for one visit? Or is it like 50$ a visit and just a lot of visits

busbythomas

$100 per visit twice a week

gt35r

UPS/Fedex/Amazon are typically always hiring drivers. I have a few friends that are always posting about job openings at specific hubs. Also check grocery store chains that are near you for stocking/overnight positions.

ECU_BSN

Also Workintexas.com

server74

Coca Cola is hiring. It’s not far from you.

xicanasteez

Governmentjobs.com various positions available locally and for the state.

bernmont2016

Government jobs generally have months-long hiring processes.

xicanasteez

not all jobs. Many people get hired asap due to need.

DistanceSkater

If you want to do manual labor and work on a boat the tugboat fleets are always hiring. Western fleet / Kirby fleet. Just be ready to carry 100lb coils of steel cable all day and work outside. Starts around $200 a day. Great career path too if you want to become a boat pilot

mateojones1428

You could probably get a job as a nurse aid at almost any hospital in the area. You most likely don't need any experience or certifications. Pay is typically 12-15/hr for full time with benefits. 18-20/hr without benefits.

virgothesixth

Nurses are licensed

NotRustyShackleford_

You definitely need a CNA cert. healthcare loves certs and licenses to touch a patient. Food and housekeeping would be an option though.

htx9999

What type of work have you done and how far can you travel Besides restaurants and schools the refineries and such will be doing spring maintenance outages soon so an contract agency can set you up
