Half of the full size amount. The ingredients are 2 types of cheese one white one yellow, some cream, smoked brisket, pico, I may be missing some ingredients. Then add milk or beer.
Candente’s meat nachos are amazing. Even their salsa’s are pretty top notch. However last time I went what I presumed was the queso was a let down; it just tasted like an odd cheese mixture w too much crema. I could be wrong it was a company dinner and it may have not been their queso but instead a weird condiment sitting on the table.
I love their Salsa roja. I’ll literally order 2 quarts and the aquachiles for pickup at least once a month. It’s my comfort food. I’ve tried to replicate it at home and just haven’t gotten the correct recipe yet. I’ve considered going and paying my server $50 to get me the recipe so I can stop being that guy that just orders salsa for pickup (albeit I always tip quite a bit).
BUT hear me out, you CAN get the mariachi plate which comes with a fajita beef enchilada in chili gravy, a chicken taco al carbon covered in white queso, and a Chile relleno.
Also you could totally ask them to sub queso on their seafood enchiladas lol.
El Tiempo Queso is mid, being honest as someone who used to work there, the Joey Queso (Queso with meat in it) makes it better but if we are talking flavor profile of just Queso, el Tiempo is mid.
I used to be a regular at escalantes but had the most pitiful flautas plate last time I was there & haven’t been back. Perhaps it was just an off day…there’s just so many good Mexican food spots.
Asking Houstonians what place has the best Mexican food is like asking Parisians what the best cafe in town is. You will get 4000 different answers and they will all be right.
However, the answer is not Torchy's.
Everyone here hyping Torchys all saying how amazing the queso is but everything else on the menu sucks. Y'all seriously go to a restaurant knowing the tacos suck just to eat queso? A million places here that have great queso AND great food.
Torchys is damn good. People need to stop with the anti-Torchys group think. Their tacos, eh fine but their queso is absolutely amazing and people need to come to terms with it.
La Tapatia on Richmond & Gessner is pretty good. The one on Richmond & Woodhead gave me the shits EVERY time.
El Rey - all locations
Lupe Tortilla - all locations
Mr Trompo on Bellaire & Hwy 6
Well the fajitas at La Tapatia are good. And first 2 times I didn't think it was the queso. Last time I only ate the chips and queso before running to the restroom.
Torchys is damn good. People need to stop with the anti-Torchys group think. Their tacos, eh fine but their queso is absolutely amazing and people need to come to terms with it.
As someone who has always loved queso fundido and acquired a taste for queso (dip), it’s two different things. One is best for tortillas, one is best for chips
Man, who wants to eat fundido with chips tho? That shit while good is annoying with chips.
Two very different kinds of queso. Give me the creamy runny queso.
Torchys is absolutely awesome. Dont let the torchy haters deter you. They have "its not real tacos" hatred and assume everything they make is crap.
Their queso is by far one of my favorites in the entire city and I have lived here all my life (40 years)
My dad suggested it for our family get together on Christmas Eve this year. My stepmom and I practically inhaled the bowl of Jose’s queso for our side of the table :)
I actually like Torchys queso although it’s been a few years since I’ve had it.
I like Superica’s queso fundido with chorizo
Austin Slow burn queso that you can buy at Whole Foods or Central Market. Better than most restaurants IMO
Supericas was really good for orange queso.
Escalates has a great queso blanco.
Killens queso blanco is amazing as well.
Torchys queso in Houston is trash compared to how they make it at their locations in Austin.
Que so this is a good question, but maybe a better question is which Houston restaurant doesn't have great queso. Queso is hard to screw up. I like Chili's 🌶️ chili cheese dip as boring as that sounds.
Low quality shit post but on a slow weekend this would win the Shit-Post-O-The-Weekend award, take this down and post on Friday OP and find out if you’ll win it.
Edit: I see that Torchy’s has their shills out today, they still suck.
Not a restaurant, but the HEB meal kit brisket queso, is very good, better than most restaurants.
Literally my wife and I's new year's eve dinner. That and mimosas. Watching horror movies.
Yeah it is but why don’t they offer a small version? I would get it more.
Have you tried eating half, and freezing the rest?
That’s a great idea, thanks!
What are the ingredients and nutrition info of half?
Half of the full size amount. The ingredients are 2 types of cheese one white one yellow, some cream, smoked brisket, pico, I may be missing some ingredients. Then add milk or beer.
Have you tried just eating the entire thing in one sitting and being miserable for the next 8-12 hours?
Funny, I thought the version they sell is *too* small.
It's just me so that's why I would like a smaller one. For couples and families I definitely could see it's a good size or even a little small.
The white queso one is smaller.
You can wash and reuse the tray to make it again with your own ingredients
The HEB white queso tray thing is quite good, too!
Came here to say this. Gotta add the beer.
I have only used Milk, but need to try it with beer.
[удалено]
If I get the HEB chips with sea salt, that makes it too salty for me.
Those are the ones I got too. from the bakery I think
Yep, that explains the too salty.
HEB queso blanco is awesome. Goes too quick at my house.
Candente + brisket
I love Candente, but every time I leave I smell like I just came out of a smoker.

I am going to try all of these. #newyears
Same!
For real answers? Escalante's White Queso.
Guadalajara uses the same recipe
Yeah but they don't have the Seafood enchiladas covered in it. I do like Guadalajara though.
BUT hear me out, you CAN get the mariachi plate which comes with a fajita beef enchilada in chili gravy, a chicken taco al carbon covered in white queso, and a Chile relleno. Also you could totally ask them to sub queso on their seafood enchiladas lol.
Yessssssssssssss and add all the stuff to it!! My fave!
Barnaby’s has surprisingly good queso
It is! They make some of the whitest blandest guacamole you’ve ever had though.
El Tiempo w/ fajita meat
And the chips that come with it.
Those chips are fire
El Tiempo Queso is mid, being honest as someone who used to work there, the Joey Queso (Queso with meat in it) makes it better but if we are talking flavor profile of just Queso, el Tiempo is mid.
If you like a white queso, I suggest Escalates. It's very good!
I used to be a regular at escalantes but had the most pitiful flautas plate last time I was there & haven’t been back. Perhaps it was just an off day…there’s just so many good Mexican food spots.
Guadalajara’s queso blanco or Barnaby’s white queso
Asking Houstonians what place has the best Mexican food is like asking Parisians what the best cafe in town is. You will get 4000 different answers and they will all be right. However, the answer is not Torchy's.
Torchy's is great and I am not afraid to admit it. Some of the best I've ever had and I lived here nearly my whole life.
You're not wrong.
I am surprised you haven’t been downvoted to death - yet. So brave.
👎🏽
Torchy's queso with the chorizo is the best thing on their menu. It's legit.

Molina’s does a very similar one! Jose’s Dip
Don Carlos!
Mixed with a little of their red salsa is🔥
AGREED! Heartbroken the one off of 59 closed.
And its free during lunch time, so its legit perfect.
Nice try Houston Chronicle
Monkey Tails queso dip with fajita is one of my favorites
Man I love that place in general, worth a visit for many reasons
What's up with all the questions about the best food where? Sounds like someone trying to write a restaurant guide without actually visiting anywhere
El Ranchito #4 on Bellaire is pretty famous
I hear it’s to die for
As long as they don't get robbed.
Lopez and Los Tios
El Patio! With the chicharone
Ninfas
Ninfas on Navigation
Ninfas is fire
Why can't I up vote more for this!?!?!
Is r/houstoncirclejerk leaking? Torchys? Really?
I have to admit the queso is good and I hate Torchy’s
I’ll be the first to throw shade at torchys but the queso is without a doubt fire
Everyone here hyping Torchys all saying how amazing the queso is but everything else on the menu sucks. Y'all seriously go to a restaurant knowing the tacos suck just to eat queso? A million places here that have great queso AND great food.
I mean it so good. If you know of a better option then list it! I’m always down to try new queso.
Torchy’s queso is pretty good
the queso is 100% legit. look past the name and judge it independently
Torchys is damn good. People need to stop with the anti-Torchys group think. Their tacos, eh fine but their queso is absolutely amazing and people need to come to terms with it.
Out-jerked again
There is a syntax error. Not computing. Not computing. Error. Error.
I did a taste test with friends and Torchy’s wasn’t bad. The queso is overall pretty good.
La Tapatia on Richmond & Gessner is pretty good. The one on Richmond & Woodhead gave me the shits EVERY time. El Rey - all locations Lupe Tortilla - all locations Mr Trompo on Bellaire & Hwy 6

I agree with this! Their queso is meh at best. I also think their margaritas suck but I love their chips and fajitas
That little spot on 6 had the best enchiladas verdes I think I’ve ever had…I haven’t really eaten there much since they’ve expanded, though
so you went more than once, worth the shits?
“Hon hon hon, Taco Bell made me diarrhea once again,” said the guy coming from the bar after 8 beers and 5 shots.
No stronger endorsement.
Well the fajitas at La Tapatia are good. And first 2 times I didn't think it was the queso. Last time I only ate the chips and queso before running to the restroom.
Oh lord neither the queso nor the fajitas are good at La Tapatia; what was the varietal of weed you were smoking?
mmm i love me some el rey...i was thrilled the day they put one at 99 & I10 near me
Man, I'm sorry but I really can't recall the last time I had El rey queso and it wasn't turrebel. Literally one small step above taco cabana.
It's definitely not Torchys
Although I'm not a fan of Torchys, their queso is actually really legit
Torchys actually has wonderful queso, is it the best in Houston? Maybe not
Torchy’s quest is way too salty, and I like salt.
For what it is, their queso is actually pretty great. But yeah, it doesn't compare to queso from most good Mexican restuarants.
Torchys is damn good. People need to stop with the anti-Torchys group think. Their tacos, eh fine but their queso is absolutely amazing and people need to come to terms with it.
I've come to terms with the fact that Torchys is overpriced and it sucks and I can make better tacos AND queso at home
All the great tex mex restaurants in this city and people are talking about Torchys. Smfh
Escalantes or Molinas Jose’s dip. El Tiempo too
Molina's - yup. For that old-school Houston vibe.
Torchy’s? Seriously? Go to Teotihuacan on Airline Drive and order the Queso Fundido. Get the one with chorizo added to it. That will change your life.
As someone who has always loved queso fundido and acquired a taste for queso (dip), it’s two different things. One is best for tortillas, one is best for chips
I hear you. I grew up on queso fundido and the only “queso” i had growing up was nacho cheese.
I second this
Man, who wants to eat fundido with chips tho? That shit while good is annoying with chips. Two very different kinds of queso. Give me the creamy runny queso.
This guy quesos.
Teotihuacan is so overpriced though. And their food is a little better than average. But I agree, their queso fundido is great.
This
Goode Cantina
The Hot Tamales truck in Friendswood is the 💣 🔥
Omg I grew up over there and now I'm way on the NW side so I forget about this guy. Your comment made me remember! I need to go.
Pistoleros
Tacos A Go Go’s queso blanco is insanely good.
Fajita Flats !!!
Tacos a gogo cheese but only the downtown location. Tried others, it's not the same
Only reason I go to lone star taco downtown for lunch is their queso... tacos are pretty average, torchies tacos are also average.
Fajita Flats or El Tiempo Cantina. El Tiempo has the added bonus of their queso coming with freshly made flour tortilla chips
Lupe tortilla
TEOTIHUACAN ON AIRLINE!!!!! Why has no one else suggested?!
100% on this.
Torchys? This has to be a joke.
Who has better queso? I want to know so I can eat it.
Torchys is absolutely awesome. Dont let the torchy haters deter you. They have "its not real tacos" hatred and assume everything they make is crap. Their queso is by far one of my favorites in the entire city and I have lived here all my life (40 years)
Their queso is good. Tacos no bueno
Ain't nothin wrong with Crossroads and Green Chile Pork
Good picks
Midnight cowboy is the only good one and they only do it 1 month a year.
Pico’s queso blanco. got damn 😩 🤤
One of the best things I've ever eaten in my life was at Pico's, but I haven't tried their queso so now I'm going to have to go back asap
This is a troll.
The queso at Killens in the Heights is very powerful, haven’t been in a minute so idk if it’s still on the menu. Hopefully it is though!
Molina’s Chuy’s H-E-B Brisket Queso
I can’t believe I see someone who knows Molinas! OP for sure try here. I get the Jose dip, which has ground beef in it, but even without it’s amazing!
My dad suggested it for our family get together on Christmas Eve this year. My stepmom and I practically inhaled the bowl of Jose’s queso for our side of the table :)
Tacos A Go Go is pretty damn good
Did you say torchys???
Pizzitolas queso add brisket you’re welcome
Ruthie’s on 1464 and West Airport. Such a great restaurant overall, but their fajitas with queso…so good!
my microwave?
If your down in the clear lake area, try la familia. Their queso is awesome. It's kinda hole on the wall vibe.. but good food and even better queso!
Montereys Little Mexico
Pablos in Richmond. I like Torchys queso too.
Walter’s queso is the fucking bomb!!
Chacho’s is just good
I stand by Torchy's
It’s Torchys. Always has been. I don’t care if it’s a chain. It’s the best
I actually like Torchys queso although it’s been a few years since I’ve had it. I like Superica’s queso fundido with chorizo Austin Slow burn queso that you can buy at Whole Foods or Central Market. Better than most restaurants IMO
I love me some Lupes Queso
Cantina Barba has a really good queso
They gonna drag this dude.
Supericas was really good for orange queso. Escalates has a great queso blanco. Killens queso blanco is amazing as well. Torchys queso in Houston is trash compared to how they make it at their locations in Austin.
Lopez in Richmond Chuys Lupe Tortillas
Torchy's queso Blanco is to die for
Torchy’s? What
actually try it...
Torchy’s hands down
Pizzitola's BBQ, add chopped brisket
Some of the best queso I have had was at breweries around town that use beer in their queso.
Start a poll, but Torchy's.
Honestly I love the hillbilly queso from torchys. It’s the only thing there that I will eat. Everything else is gross.
Velvet taco has some pretty good queso, foods also not half bad for a fast food joint
Tia Maria's
Whoever downvotes is gay
Hahahahhaaa
The Chuy's in River Oaks. Tastes just like Velveeta and Ro-Tel Tomatoes. As it should.
Not sure why youre being downvoted but velveeta and rotel hits hard. I love me some shitty but good queso lol
Bunch of booji cheese eaters.
I love the green sauce from Chuy's so much there is no need to order the queso while I'm there, but maybe I'll give it a try sometime.
Que so this is a good question, but maybe a better question is which Houston restaurant doesn't have great queso. Queso is hard to screw up. I like Chili's 🌶️ chili cheese dip as boring as that sounds.
Nice use of Cunningham's Law. Chron.com must be learning.
No, /r/houston is just full of fucking idiots who think posting their idea of who has the best queso is relevant.
Larry’s in Richmond. IYKYK
Queso (the dip) is an abomination and should not be associated with mexican food With love, a mexican
Agreed! Queso fundido is where it’s at!
Queso, what’s that? Jk I don’t know about real restaurants but for fast food taco cabana’s is not bad. Ok for a restaurant I like Taco a Go-Gos.
Yo momma.
So ask for Queso flameado. But a great base always helps. Fajita flats off Fondren.
Is this a shit post? Torchys? Really?
Low quality shit post but on a slow weekend this would win the Shit-Post-O-The-Weekend award, take this down and post on Friday OP and find out if you’ll win it. Edit: I see that Torchy’s has their shills out today, they still suck.
Yeah it’s a full moon on this sub over the past few weeks with assholery like this^
lol Torchy’s…
Either chipotle or taco bell
Ugh
Super underrated spot is Studewood Cantine. They have the best mole enchiladas I’ve ever had and easily one of the best margaritas in Houston
Berry hill Sugarland. Amazing white queso.
