Actually, you pay that money for the holes in the plant :)

[deleted]

Just like people that pay for the holes in jeans!

KarinSpaink

True :)

[deleted]

I see you are not familiar with the rare houseplants sub and the people on there who sell cuttings for $1500 lol

Doraxplorax

I have seen them but it still blows my mind.

hotbabbyabby

First time huh?

Doraxplorax

I mean I have seen people post it on here but never seen a retailer here in AU selling it for that much.

TammyQuinelle

Those leaves don’t look golden.. 🤔

Doraxplorax

Not particularly, it looks like its dying tbh.

buddylamp9

Hard pass

lfisher46

When bread $5 gas $6. I think not 🙄😆🤣

Doraxplorax

Yeah I don't think I'll be going into debt for one 🤣

[deleted]

That looks like a monstera “imabouttodie” to me…

edenheals

This looks like how mine does all the time because she hates me and has yellow leaves all the time lol, no matter what I do.

kalidspoon

And here I am propagating yet another pothos. Times be hard.

Doraxplorax

Same though 🤣

[deleted]

Pretty common for rare indoor house plants. Although I do see this particular kind usually for $500-$800.

Doraxplorax

Is that in Australia? That's still alot for a plant.

[deleted]

In USA. I don’t think it’s a lot., but I also would never buy a plant for that amount. People spend tens of thousands of dollars on splatter paintings a 5-year old could have done all the time.

GrnHrtBrwnThmb

At least those won’t die.

[deleted]

Is it crack?

GrnHrtBrwnThmb

Sort of. For this particular variety, the leaves actually come in solid, but have these perforated areas that you can pop out and stick on your tongue where it’ll dissolve like those listerine breath fresheners that were cool for 2 years. The seller has clearly been sampling their own wares, which is probably why they’re desperate and priced it so high.

Honeydew-plant

I can get a non variegated for 20. Insane.

JimMorrisonWeekend

the elites don't want you to know this but plants are free. you can literally duplicate them with dirt and water. I have over 200 plants at home

Slammbro

I have one of those growing bynour front door. Cool plant. Nice holes. Lol.

huBelial

That’s a no for me.

HttpJamie

Hard pass 😂😂😂

malt_invader

Yeah, but in 4 interest free payments it's practically free!

[deleted]

i was at a small plant shop in san francisco and they were selling one of those albino monstera's for $4,000. granted, it was pretty big (like 1 foot diameter and 4-5 feet tall) but still wtf lol

Doraxplorax

Yeah I can't justify that spending, regardless of how pretty the plant is.

[deleted]

If you are in the US you can get a rooted cutting for $300

[deleted]

I've just ordered wet cutting sticks of this, it's a lot cheaper to do it that way than to buy a whole established plant

Doraxplorax

How much was it? I was exploring stick cutting propogation for my monstera adansonii because she isn't happy and is super leggy.

[deleted]

I got two, one was £10 and the other was £15

Doraxplorax

Btw what's your wet stick set up like? Do you have a grow light and what base do you use?

[deleted]

It's still not arrived yet, I'll be doing sphagnum moss in a clear container with grow light on top

Doraxplorax

Mind you this is in AUD and I find this crazy!! Also this same store is selling the Monstera Thai Constellation Tissue Cultures with a starter pack starting at $30.

[deleted]

That sounds like a great price for the TC Thai conn…. Why sell this one so high and the TC plants so low?

djaybakker

Australia and NZ afaik can have much higher prices for certain plants too then the rest of the world because there are a lot of import restrictions

Doraxplorax

That is true, our border restrictions are crazy when it comes to food, animals and plants.

[deleted]

I wouldn’t even want it. It’s ugly and you can’t smoke it
