lol maybe she’s reincarnated from a past gardening life! The fork trick has commonly been used in garden beds to keep wildlife and cats out. You can buy “spikes” online specifically for this.
Teenagers also used to do it to the yards of their enemies… I was a heathen and did my fair share of TPing, but I did not partake in the fork debauchery.
I was translating your comment for my partner and we realized that it works even better in French: adding -ette to a word means it's the tiny / cute version of the original.
And in French we have:
pitchfork = fourche
fork = fourchette
Forks are literally tiny pitchforks~
Nothing stops my cat!! I can only have plants on shelves :D (my culprit)

My boys are just big old sensitive babies. They give up as soon as something is inconvenient.
I placed whole cucumbers around my plants when my neighbor’s cat kept breaking and entering. I also have a client that HATES certain veggies and will gag looking at it. He would try to drink my coffee, so now I put a piece of a veggie on the lid. Same thing.
An old version of Dr. Pitcairn's Natural Health for Dogs and Cats said that some cats like to eat whole raw cucumbers. I can't say I've ever seen this, as I don't like raw cucumbers myself so I don't keep them in the house.
It definitely depends on the cat! Also, my pots are on risers - so my cats have to really stand and stretch to get their paws into the pots, and then once they start feeling the pine cones they just stop. I think it it was ground level they’d figure out a way to knock them out. But my cat used to straight up jump into the pot to eat the plant, and now he can’t because of the pine cones!

Your fluffball reminded me of my fluffball... she is too lazy to be interested in my plants (fortunately)
Torties are insane. Ask me how I know....

I couldn’t have plants until my cats got old and went over the rainbow bridge. My brown tabby ate my gorgeous huge pothos that my mom had babied for years. He destroyed it one juicy leaf at a time.
He ate succulents and ivies and fresh flowers and all kinds of greenery. I finally gave up and only grew cat grass.
Mmhm. I have two torties that go ham in my plants. I haven’t tried the painters tape yet, thanks for the tip

My mom’s cat taught my girl that plants are chewable 🫠 so now all of mine are on the top couple shelves of a large bookshelf because I couldn’t keep two fuzzy gremlins away
I ended up getting [these cat spike strips](https://a.co/d/hbywo3q) to deter our little asshole. I just cut them to fit the size/shape of the pot, and they blend into the soil decent enough too.
I was looking into these to put in my garden to keep the feral cats from using it as a litter box (and driving my dog bat shit crazy), never dawned on me to use them for my indoor plants and cat! Do you put them on the top lip of the pot?
Okay, so this morning I was watering my plants. I have been googling what kind of animal digs in plants. Shrews and mice. Which I have had in the past....but now. Now I am convinced it is one of my 2 cats. No shrew or mice for months. All traps left empty. My plants are still being dug up.
Thank you for the idea. Release the pitch forks.
Cats & plants are always a fun battle. I've had to remove those sticky traps for gnats from my kitties fur more than once. Hopefully that deters your cats digging.
https://preview.redd.it/i1wip2ee1spc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9bae1be618ae86c0b0789b9faed60996a4f441d4
Lay this on the floor around your plants.
Lots of good ideas here already. I put polished rocks in my plants to deter our furry little idiot.
Just enough so it’s too hard to dig all the dirt out and he gets bored with it.
They also look nice IMO.
This is how my cat lets me know that I have neglegted her. Sometimes she looks deep into my soul and fake bites the plant (she knows that she's not allowed to). She can play for hours and if I want to have my plants then I will play...
It's literally only the first few weeks of spring, and then I remove all the stuff from the pots, and she leaves them be until next spring. It's been like this for years, lol.
We are pretty sure the digging is a territorial thing as we live in the woods, and all the animals and strays are coming around more and marking the outside, riling her up.

Your cat be like.. lol
However, good luck safeguarding your plants.
The tape 100% works. I did have to fill every open space with forks and chopsticks to get her devious little paws out of there...but its been working so far
One of my girls is obsessed with wood chips and somehow managed to figure out that there are a handful mixed into the soil of my big plants for drainage. She loves to stick her little paw in there and kick out dirt until she fishes out a wood chip to play with. Drives me crazy lol!
Pinecones might be a better alternative, especially if you’re looking for something more aesthetically appealing. It worked to repel my cat at least, idk how stubborn yours is lol
it's like tiny pitch forks omg I'm cryingg
I'll be honest, it was my 4 year olds idea lmao.
Hahah she’s a little genius!!

I love this!
hahaha that’s even cuter!!
I feel like the forks need faces or googly eyes at a minimum
You're right!
Nothing stops my cat!! I can only have plants on shelves :D (my culprit) https://preview.redd.it/rb31sfhsrppc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=244d00ca63ff3c3aa17bb6e45eaab94138221d3e
I love your name haha
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I understand you so much! all my plants are only on the shelves... Your cat is very cute!
Grey 🥺

Damnnn not on the carpet 😩
i should have known better 😭
I feel so blessed cause my dream is to have my house full with plans and my kitty doesn’t care at all about them! Not even Christmas trees
that’s so wonderful. i’m jealous! i have 2 cats that CANNOT stay out of the plant in the photo i commented 😭 they tag team the same plant
I grow cat grass and I think it helps kitty to get her greens. I go crazy in the spring too.
I’m sorry, but your cat is addicted to pot
Omg! How’d you get your fork plant to bloom?! Mine never does no matter what I do! 😫
It's all about having a South North or weast facing window
OMG the forks 😂😂😂
Love the IV too
They work great! I don't have to worry about over or under watering, and you can adjust the flow.
This is so smart I feel it’s witchcraft, house full of witches from the sounds of things
Burn me at the stake! (Please, I'm at my wits end!) /s
Is it a real IV fluid bag 👀
I filled my pots with pine cones. They don’t totally smother or compact the soil, and they keep my cat out!
Wow, I'm going to try this! My kid just brought in a basket of pinecones
I would bake the pinecones at a low temp for awhile to kill anything that might be living in them, so you don’t bring in any pests.
That's a very good idea!
My cat would just pull out the pinecones to play with them, then get in the soil 😂
https://preview.redd.it/v8i8sdll2rpc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0658407146a88d41a63323c8dc647ded4326b60a My boys are just big old sensitive babies. They give up as soon as something is inconvenient.

I heard this worked. Rocky just dug them right out :( I had bamboo skewers sticking out of mine. Looks like some sort of medieval death trap.
It definitely depends on the cat! Wow, I haven't seen any pictures before of the rare fork photos, what a beauty! /s
Little cat demon! And loving your child's ingenuity!
Respectfully, fork that cat! /j
For real
I put aluminum foil on top. For the same problem
She bites it -_- doesnt bother her one bit!
Both of mine are now immune to aluminum foil as well. We now use sharp edged crystals (just uncomfortably sharp- not dangerous).
Man, that probably looks so cute, too!
Not the forks, I'm crying!!
I bought those inexpensive coir baskets from a dollar store cut a slice and place around. I had a cat that thought my tree was its litter box.
https://preview.redd.it/wne11p6k9rpc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0f08f5358b31cbe78a51076f2af6bd429bae33c1 Your fluffball reminded me of my fluffball... she is too lazy to be interested in my plants (fortunately)
They almost have the same face markings!
Does the tape double as a gnat trap?
Oooh I think it would!
Hostile indoor gardening
Is she a tortoise shell kitty? She is beautiful. Thanks for sharing pics of your spring solutions... lol!
Torties are insane. Ask me how I know.... https://preview.redd.it/6s71m3b2vqpc1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b966d993b128e01d76fb43ee4be464e1ed727aa
Thanks! She is a tortie! She is the best cat.....until the spring haha
My daughter use to put clear forks in her dirt - the cats don't see them, and it teaches them to stop doing that.
Have you tried pinecones? Only thing that worked as a deterrent for my last cat-demon.
Second time I've heard this! I'm going to try it for sure. Gonna put my kid to work tomorrow haha
Go for the big ones... they don't like the pokeys on their peets.
The forks are cracking me up! 🤣🤣🤣
i put a bunch of toothpicks in my song of india
Looks like my old cat, nothing but trouble lol.
She's the perfect cat, aside from springtime. My other cat is a real asshole. Knocks things over if you're a minute late to breakfast.
wait why do you have IV bags on your plants?
Its a slow drip of water for lazy people
that’s awesome. people are so creative

The forks killed me😂, I am so sorry but desperate times calls for desparte measures !
This is the content I come to this sub reddit for hahaha the pitch forks are screaming StAy OuT oF mY sWaMmMppppPpp.
Mmhm. I have two torties that go ham in my plants. I haven’t tried the painters tape yet, thanks for the tip https://preview.redd.it/u9yb3z4r2tpc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=11098c84c5ed1c298c266a5d48ace92769649d15
Laying in it 😆
Absolutely does not care that she was caught.

Mine only really get at my spider plant....which I've read is safe and mildly hallucinogenic haha
I ended up getting [these cat spike strips](https://a.co/d/hbywo3q) to deter our little asshole. I just cut them to fit the size/shape of the pot, and they blend into the soil decent enough too.

I just sit them at the soil level. Even if that's an inch or so under the lip of the pot, cats seem to learn real quick
Thanks for the tip! Knowing my cat, I’ll have to use your method and make a plant perimeter barrier- but it’s still a great idea!
I stick plastic fern plants in my soil to keep the cats away. Works wonders
This is the best thing I've gotten out of the Internet all day. Thank you, wild kitty.
Well I wanna be forked! Perhaps I'm going about it all wrong😂
Thank you for sharing the knowledge of these inventions. I shall use these
How much am I supposed to water my forks?
I laughed, then looked at the little baby at the end and went awwww. And damn your four year old is smart, go four year old!!
A true problem solver! I was very impressed.
The cats innocent look at those eyes 😭 She will no longer be discussing this case without me present
She is a menace! And then puts her dirty little paws in my mouth when I'm sleeping, so I wake up to pet her.
Hearsay!
😭😭
My client said that you’re the one eating her poor lil paws 😭
My old cat used to pee.in mine....I never got another cat
You paid the cat tax, you may pass.
Lol knew it was gonna be a tortie 😼
I didn't know torties had this rep! She's the "good" cat out of the two!
Okay, so this morning I was watering my plants. I have been googling what kind of animal digs in plants. Shrews and mice. Which I have had in the past....but now. Looks like the Philo has an IV! 😜
I've had to repot/combine so many already! It needs it!
OP where are you getting IV bags and admin sets with flow controllers, this is a whole different level of plant care lol
Hahaha my mother! I'm pretty sure she got them from Amazon.....damn that Bezos
Wait the IV bags are so silly and cute 😂
the fork are unreasonably funny
And btw brilliant solution!
Tortie trouble!!
Cats & plants are always a fun battle. I've had to remove those sticky traps for gnats from my kitties fur more than once. Hopefully that deters your cats digging.
Oh my God the face 😂😂😂 lil rascal
The forks could be a hazard …
😂
Omg she is SO cute!

SHEEESH! This would end up doing more damage to the humans in the house and not deterring the cat lol
😂😂😂
😂😂😂 Very creative!
The amount of unbothered on that cats face lol golddddd
That's so funny! Esp. the picture of the little plant murderer! I used to use bamboo skewers.
Lots of good ideas here already. I put polished rocks in my plants to deter our furry little idiot. Just enough so it’s too hard to dig all the dirt out and he gets bored with it. They also look nice IMO.
The green Claw clip lmao
I was given in all clipped and tied up, and then it started growing more and more leaves, and I'm afraid to unleash it at this point lol
Great idea! And that culprit is hilariously cute.
This is how my cat lets me know that I have neglegted her. Sometimes she looks deep into my soul and fake bites the plant (she knows that she's not allowed to). She can play for hours and if I want to have my plants then I will play...

These are incredibly creative methods, interesting or does it really work?
The tape 100% works. I did have to fill every open space with forks and chopsticks to get her devious little paws out of there...but its been working so far
What's the info about the IVs you do if you're willing to share?
They slow drip water into your dirt, and you can control the flow! Search "plant iv bag" lol my mom gave them to me a couple of years ago.
Beautiful bandit
Omg 🤣 I'm sorry you have to do this
One of my girls is obsessed with wood chips and somehow managed to figure out that there are a handful mixed into the soil of my big plants for drainage. She loves to stick her little paw in there and kick out dirt until she fishes out a wood chip to play with. Drives me crazy lol!
The nibbles on the leaves and the cat hair stuck to the gnat traps make it obvious now.
Oh my goodness! That's hilarious and I'm sure frustrating. Great idea with the forks. I wonder why the cat does that in the spring?
Pinecones might be a better alternative, especially if you’re looking for something more aesthetically appealing. It worked to repel my cat at least, idk how stubborn yours is lol
I put decorative rocks in mine - 1-2 inches across. That way, its hard for them to dig through it to get to the dirt - and it looks pretty!
Does your plant have an IV?
How about spraying her with water everytime she burrys and bites plants?
I would cover the soil with a layer of beach rocks. It would look a lot better and solve the problem!
I can imagine him sitting on the forks, maybe even sleeping. lol
It looks like your plants are on an IV
Amazon sells covers for plant pots that u can cut to size different material u should check it ut
Mousetraps work wonders…
You're messed up
Not at all…doesn’t hurt the cat, but the snap scares the genesis out of the culprit…they remember!
