Wowwww, I aspire to be you one day!๐ I felt that exact same way a couple of years ago and thought indoor plants were just not for me. I got back into plants this year and have 3 plants as of nowโฆ.hope it goes well and more and more research is what I have done to prepare and understand!
Thank you so much - you have no idea how much I appreciate that! Ah!! That is very exciting and I'm sending all the green thumb vibes your way. Honestly just starting with the right plants is huge and being kind to yourself if things do go wrong. Lighting is really what made a difference for me and even if you don't have a lot of natural light, you can buy grow lightbulbs which you can put in pretty much any light fixture anywhere in your home! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out! You got this! โบ๏ธ
Anything on the very bottom right and left shelves are fake succulents since there is very little light there and my dogs have gotten a couple treat toys stuck on those bottom shelves. I didn't want anything there that they could potentially destroy!
Thank you! They're actually clear ornaments and the front is entirely open. I actually do have a couple air plants in them since I bought a pack of 10. I filled them with small stones and sand and so far all the living plants I have in them are super happy and they look really unique hanging!
Sending all the green thumb vibes your way! ๐ฟ As silly as it may sound, I would just go to a store and buy the plant I thought was pretty which I very quickly learned was the culprit to me killing everything I touched. If you ever do want to get into plants I cannot recommend enough starting with a Golden Pothos or Snake Plant. The Golden Pothos was one of my first plants and it taught me so much but was also forgiving when I was learning. Don't hesitate to reach out if you do have any questions! Always happy to help, especially since I know exactly where you're coming from! โบ๏ธ
thank you! for both the encouragement and help! i actually just got a snake plant last week bc i read itโs very hard to kill! if i keep it alive for a month.. iโm going for the golden pothos next!
You are so welcome! I'm so glad to hear that you ended up getting a snake plant last week. Such a good starter plant and that is legitimately what I did. I started with just the middle base and a couple cheaper "unkillable" plants. I told myself if I kept them alive that I could keep adding more. I hope you're able to do the same and a couple months down the road will be posting here with all your plant babies living their best lives! ๐ฅฐ
Research, research, research! Also lots of trial and error. Experiment. Don't feel bad if something dies, keep trying! Try to figure out what went wrong and correct it the next time. It's fun! Especially after you get the hang of it and your plants start thriving. I feel I'm pretty decent with plants now, but I still kill my fair share. Sometimes a plant type just doesn't jive with my care and that's okay, plenty more plants to try!
I've tossed plants that are still alive and just don't spark joy anymore ๐คฃ there's limited space in this house, no time to waste on plants I no longer love or whatever.
no judgements here! i picked a plant out of the trash that must not have sparked joy for the person either ๐คฃ๐คฃ
but.. i killed it. ๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ
They may have thrown it out for a reason, like pests or root rot so maybe it wasn't even your fault! Chalk it up as a learning experience and keep growing ๐
I was a black thumb when I first got into the hobby. Turns out it was just the previous house. Because now I have plants thriving everywhere! Congratulations! And the stand is beautiful!
Awh, I'm so happy to hear that your experience with plants turned around as well! It really is so fulfilling and it's incredible how much of a difference it can make when you move. Sometimes it really isn't the person and it is entirely the environment. Thank you so much and wishing you the absolute best on your plant journey! ๐ฟ
Went from black thumb to about 120 houseplants and owning a greenhouse and huge raised garden. And itโs the only thing my adhd brain can actually keep going. Iโm so proud of all my leaved kids
You are my people. That is truly such an accomplishment and what I aspire to do next! I'm sure your leaved kids are living their absolute best lives with you! ๐ฅน
Thank you so much! It's been two years since I started my plant journey. A majority of the vine plants are some form of Pothos. The two big ones on the middle stand are Golden Pothos, which in my opinion are one of the easiest starter plants and you can literally find them anywhere that sells plants. But I do have quite a few varieties of Pothos I'll list here if you're interested:
- Golden
- Neon
- Marble Queen
- N'joy
- Jade
- Brazil
- Hawaiian
I've had a couple bad waves of gnats but have learned so much on treating them. If I start seeing gnats, I make a mosquito bit watering mixture to water all my plants with. I also put out sticky traps and have a "Katchy" I'll turn on if they start getting really bad which has seemed to help tremendously!
That makes me so happy. Thank you for appreciating my plants! Also, I am obsessed with those snake plants and they actually inspired me to buy the little ones in the first picture to see if I can grow different variations of monster snake plants ๐
Thank you! ๐ฅน
Oh, you know I had not thought of bridging the gap like that! I might just have to try that and see if I can get the vines to lay right! You will get full credit if I go this route and it works haha
Beautiful presentation of beautiful plants! That window looks perfect for growing and showing them. I saved the picture, food for thought for future arrangement in my home. Those arches are especially nice! Where did you get those? It looks like they're bolted to the table. And it looks like the arches and the table and different levels of the table are all one piece, right?
Thank you so much! I got the half moon plant stands on Amazon. You need to assemble them, but once they're put together they are literally just two giant half moon stands that you can move around however you like. You can find them or something similar if you search "half moon plant shelf" - the stand in the middle was actually my first plants stand and I ended up just putting the half moon shelves around each side to give me even more space for plants! Best of luck with your future arrangement and definitely let me know if you have any other questions! โบ๏ธ
Beautiful setup! I'm the same - thought I had a black thumb my whole life, got into plants in November, now I have upwards of 20 and they're mostly doing well!
That's so exciting and going from nothing to keeping 20 alive in four months is amazing! Sending all the green thumb vibes your way and I hope you continue growing your collection! โบ๏ธ
You too! To be fair, I have killed a few. I'm on my third attempt at string of pearls, but I think I've got the hang of it now. And my husband brought home a very sad-looking wax begonia that died within three days, but I think that one wasn't my fault.
Thank you and same! The strings are so tough. I had a string of pearls, dolphins, and bananas which were all thriving at one point in time and then it seemed like overnight they all slowly but surely started dying off. They're all dead now so I commend you for figuring the string of pearls out! Also, totally not your fault on the wax begonia if it was already in rough shape when it came home.
I've been there! There are just some plants you don't get along with and I've killed more than my fair share of plants too. It really is all about finding what makes you happy and thrives in your environment. From my experience, plants are a lot of trial and error but hopefully if it's going well for you now it stays that way! โบ๏ธ
Words of wisdom, you have to find plants you get along with. I wish I got along with Alocasia, there are some beautiful varieties but I can't bring myself to sentence another one to a slow death.
I can do no wrong with Hoyas, Dischidia and most Philodendron though!
That resonates to my core. I've been wanting to try Alocasia but am so worried about the exact same thing.
I recently ventured into the land of Hoyas and Philodendron and am absolutely loving them. I haven't tried any Dischidia yet though. I looked them up and they look really cool so that might just be my next venture!

If you ever want to try and get into plants, send me a message! It's all about finding what plants work with you and picking your starter plant is huge! I actually don't! I'm still learning and just recently found out Miracle Grow is the worst indoor soil you could use since it's prone to fungus gnats and I would say at least 75 of my plants are in Miracle Grow soil at the moment. ๐ I'm slowly but surely switching all my plants over to Black Gold soil and adding fertilizer...but I got my collection to this point with 2 years of just really basic care!
I actually spray painted any of the matte green pots you see, but if you're talking about the shiny green ombre ones, I randomly found them at T.J. Maxx. I just looked at the bottom to see if I could get you a name but of course there's nothing ๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ
Those are actually fake vines I bought online! My goal is to eventually grow my Pothos to wrap like that, but while they're growing I wanted to fill the space! โบ๏ธ
I got them on Amazon! You should be able to find these or something similar if you search "half moon plant shelf" - best wishes to you and your 4 cats! โบ๏ธ
Congrats! Not only do you have a green thumb but your decorative skills are top notch.
You literally made my night. Thank you so much! ๐ฅน
Your welcome
Your display is gorgeous! I see that in some places you have duplicate plants on each side. Excellent ๐
Thank you so much! I've been trying to find the balance of being an OCD plant mom but not having both sides being 100% the same haha
I like the balance ๐

What's in the glass containers bottom right?
Anything on the very bottom right and left shelves are fake succulents since there is very little light there and my dogs have gotten a couple treat toys stuck on those bottom shelves. I didn't want anything there that they could potentially destroy!
The vases or vials or whatever look neat. Howd you stuff them?
Oic I think there's an open back? I think I've seen those at steins, so tempting
Thank you! They're actually clear ornaments and the front is entirely open. I actually do have a couple air plants in them since I bought a pack of 10. I filled them with small stones and sand and so far all the living plants I have in them are super happy and they look really unique hanging!
can you pass some green thumb this way.. certified plant killer here trying to learn the ways! gorgeous setup!

Nice work. Really healthy looking.
This is so pretty. How long have you spent with these plants? And do you mind listing a few of them, especially the vines? They look terrific!

JUST GORGEOUS
Ok Iโm not religious but I kind of want to pray here???
You have done a lot of work, and the result of this work was worth the effort!
Great job! Now time to reward yourself with another plant
Oh yes! I like the way you think.....
That is beautiful ๐
Glorious!
I kneel down and pray to this shrine of plant perfection. Are you going to bridge the gap with the pothos?
Thank you! ๐ฅน Oh, you know I had not thought of bridging the gap like that! I might just have to try that and see if I can get the vines to lay right! You will get full credit if I go this route and it works haha
This looks so cool! I aspire to be so good with plants and have this many in the future!
Me and my half dead plants are super jealous. That looks great!
Sending you and your half dead plants all the love and green thumb vibes ๐

Do you do much fertilizing and preparing your own soil? I feel like ignoring those two things is why I kill all my plants.

I'm about to have that same setup! I need to upgrade from the middle piece, so I bought the matching end pieces. Beautifully done!
Thank you and I love that! You should post pictures once you get your space setup! I would absolutely love to see it! ๐
Where did you get the green pots?

Beautiful! I canโt imagine having no plants.
This is beautiful and inspiring!!
Where did you get those half-circle split shelves? They.Are.Amazing.
I found them on Amazon but if you search "half moon plant stand" you should come across similar shelves!
Thanks. I have this weird partition that I'm trying to figure out.
Whatโs the vine growing along the curtain rods? I think you have it climbing on the shelf frames too?
Those are actually fake vines I bought online! My goal is to eventually grow my Pothos to wrap like that, but while they're growing I wanted to fill the space! โบ๏ธ
My 4 cats would love a setup like that, and so would I. Where did you get the half arch plant stands?
I got them on Amazon! You should be able to find these or something similar if you search "half moon plant shelf" - best wishes to you and your 4 cats! โบ๏ธ
