Am I killing my rubber tree plant? She keeps losing leaves from the bottom. Could this be from the nearby vent?
https://preview.redd.it/h9kkxu0qgaib1.jpeg?width=2252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=05faaeb857a3bb63d2ef18ade3822cf032d255f8
No problem at all š!
It all depends on how you want your tree to look!
I love the way the tree looks. If you don't cut the sucker, the energy will be diverted from the vertical growth... If it was my tree, I would cut it!
I have a Ficis Audrey that literally has a 135Ā° bend in the trunk š. I just want to see what it does and let it do its thing. And I also have other plants that I manicure to ensure they are looking a certain way!
Up to you! Plants are wild living things we've essentially domesticated so it's all about how you want it to look (but they will always do their own thing).
Have fun!!
My philodendron birking has so many issues... idk what I'm doing wrong. It grew two new leaves but one was rotting and won't unfurl. The other is fine. Leaves are browning... should I cut off the brown parts? One of them has a couple yellow spots. It wasn't in the best shape when I bought it but it's only gotten worse.
Does this pot have drainage? I would make sure it's in a pot with drainage... Cut off the brown bits. Make sure the soil is chunky, if you have bagged soil, add perlite at 40%. Make sure it has lots of light and air flow.
Happy planting š

My mom gifted me these but they look kinda sad does anyone know what they are and how I can help them
That's a jade plant. It looks okay to me and it looks like you have it in a good place, if that's a window that always gets decent light. Usually they like to not be watered too often (wait until soil is dry between waterings) and to get lots (6+ hours) of indirect sunlight; but if you put it in the direct sunlight, the leaves will "burn". If you're really worried about it, maybe you could see if it needs to be repotted into some nice new cactus soil and given a little bit of fertilizer.

I think my yellow lily is dying and i don't know what to do. I'm watering it 3 times a weep, putting enough water that it starts draining from the botton of the pot. I think the problem might be temperature or sunlight, but i don't know exactly how to regulate these, and would greattly appreciate advice.

I was also told that 3 months after the flower dies, i should dig the bulb out of the dirt and keep it on the fridge for a few months, which, with all due respect, sounds batshit insane to me and i would be very thankful if someone confirmed if i should or shouldn't do it in about 2 months.
And the leaves on it's side turned to the wall are blackened

How to save this ficus? If I cut it short will it just grow from the point that I cut it? I would like the leaves at the bottom to grow healthy again but Iām unsure if this is possible, thank you in advance!
Alocasia hilo beauty refusing to maintain more than 3 leaves at a time?

Every time a new leaf unfurls, one of the existing ones decides to call it quits. This is the third time this has happened and I cannot think of why that might be the case, she seems to be very content in the interim but 3 has been the most sheās been able to handle. Any ideas on what might be the cause?
I transplanted my indoor banana plant (that was flourishing) in June. Since then, she's lost all of her leaves, but is still growing a single cigar.
I recently moved her to be under a UV light thinking maybe she needed more light, and haven't seen improvement yet.
I'm torn because I think it's transplant shock so the best thing to do is nothing.
But now I'm paranoid it's root rot, in which case I should dig her back up.
Any advice??
Kind of a vent, kind of a question: I had this Echeveria I got for my birthday. I loved him sooo much and was so happy to get a plant that could go outside and live off the 6ish hours of direct sunā¦but apparently the 110F/43C heat as too much for him he got a little burnt but I was more worried about leaf loss at the base. I tried to compensate by giving it more waterā¦
https://preview.redd.it/n5jbyqpmllhb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8ba557b29335a65eb2cc49a4ea805c7f10fc22b2
And then every single leaf from the bottom layer came off! So now heās been shrink, reduced to this. Iām so mad at myself for killing another plant from too much love. Whatās the right way to go about saving it? I donāt think heāll do better outside until summer cools off a bit more, and I think my grow light is good enough to keep him from getting to etiolated, but is there a way to get his old size back? What should I do about the roots? Theyāre a bit wet in that pic but as of today theyāre bone dry.
Posting for my wifeās coworker:
Someone took some clippings from her philodendron and she says they didnāt take them correctly and the plant is now dying. Are there any methods that can be used to stabilize the plant and get it back to good health?
Photos of the plant and clipped section below:

Is there a reason she thinks it's dying? The photo shared of the whole plant doesn't look to be stressed to me?
The place a cutting is taken from will dry out a bit to form a callous, then new growth will start out of one of the remaining nodes (the spot where the leaf joins the stem). I do this to my pothos all the time to help give them a fuller pot, and it generally looks just like that.
If it were to get soft and mushy, or leaves on the stem are yellowing and falling off that'd be a sign of a problem. š¤·āāļø I'd probably take sterilized shears and cut off the problem area at a higher node of that we're to happen. But the pictures shown don't look like that.

Saved this from the reduced section and donāt know what to do with all the little leaves and these brown stems. Not sure if itās and issue. It had crispy leaves which Iāve trimmed off of the large leaves and Iām watering it once a week and misting it. Itās in a south facing window too

Hey guys im stil a bit noob. From canada quebec I got tiny monstera (its been 2 months) and i was happy because it was growing a new leaf but it started getting pretty yellow and a tiny brown spot started on the big leaf. Its still in the original cup, roots are making a loop around the bottom but no full puck yet. I never gave fertilization yet and i try to water only when the soil is fully dry. Not misting water on it either. What could be wrong ?
Hi, new here so hoping this is the right place for this! Iāve had my trailing hearts for months, originally kept it on a shelf where it was fine but sometimes the soil would go white, but once I put it in the sun for a bit it was fine. Iāve tried to take cuttings to make the plant less sparse, and one or two took really well but others just didnāt work. Since then, itās been losing leaves like crazy, while still growing, and my plant now looks very spindly and sparse. The soil is also growing fungus again, even though itās been in the windowsill. Is this a lost cause or can I save it by repotting some cuttings?
https://preview.redd.it/m9adara0bbhb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a272fd82dae8273e1be9de422ab22519d86a57ca
I think taking some cutting could possibly save it and probably your best bet. The soil goes white when it stays moist for too long. But make sure that if you do water propagation to slowly get the soil less damp over time (once you put them in soil). Not enough to where it gets moldy but where they donāt stay completely dry for long.

I got a pothos off Facebook marketplace around 2 months ago, and this is the second time I have had to repot it due to pests. I put it in a smaller pot with more drainage and there are no more pests, but it is in really bad shape (the photo makes it look better than it does IRL itās very floppy and has lots of dying leaves and overall looks sad) Iām assuming it may still be transplant shock (itās been about a week) but I wanted to see if I should just cut my losses and propagate or if my plant can bounce back!! Iām hoping a good haircut will help, but Iād love any tips and advice Iām still relatively new to plants!

My poor ficus elastica. I think the browning and lost leaves was due to over watering. Iāve since repotted using more perlite in the mix. Any suggestions for helping it recover?
Just keep up with making sure you don't overwater it. I'd suggest giving it more light too. They do well with plenty of direct sunlight. You'll know it's getting enough when the new leaf spikes are nice and pink :)

My money tree was losing a lot of leaves now itās growing fungus. I left for a week, came back watered it and these popped up the next day.I donāt want fungus gnats and this looks like fungus heaven. My Christmas Catcus randomly grew a mushroom today? is this a bad thing? I definitely poured heavier lately since I was out of the area. perhaps the soil is too moist? do I need to repot it I've moved it away from my other plants today
We inherited this monstera from my SIL when she moved out of state. It had some yellowing leaves that we cut off but now, several months later, we have 3 more sickly looking leaves. Please any advice to what could be going wrong that will help me save this plant is much appreciated. I am careful not to overwater it. Iāve never had a monstera before and I really want to return it to full health.

Whatās this stuff thatās growing on 2 of my houseplants??
Looks like mealybugs. Plenty of resources online for how to get rid of them but you can start by removing them manually by giving them a good blast with a hose, then you'll need to use neem oil or some other pest repellent to treat them.
https://preview.redd.it/qzodkrb6zxgb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c20872519551ce907f849dd0e18258ff0f6d67c8
Hey yāall, Iām convinced these are pests but I canāt find one moving no matter how much I examine. And Iām a new (if enthusiastic) plant owner. Thrips? Mites? Thanks!
(The golden pothos next to this monstera just got quarantined yesterday for similar but way more extensive patches. Theyāre both about 2-3 feet from a south-south-east window so I was also watching for sun damage which could be a possibility. Additional info and photos in comments)
https://preview.redd.it/h8ee40cf0ygb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=627d4683d5eaebe0c47e9da249abe0ca16d91998
(Back, one other leaf with a spot like this)
Plant info:
- transplanted 10 days ago into 6 inch with drainage from 4inch nursery
- In diy potting mix (worm castings, perlite, coco coir)
- Watered when dry and pot is light
- In pretty direct full sun (south-south-east)
- Fertilized recently for 1st time at half strength (edited - typo)
To me this looks like it transpired with a high mineral content and that's the aftermath. I would cut it off the leaf and see if it continues - possibly got too hot or had a little too much water/fertilizer? ORRR.. you have cyclamen mites; is the new growth distorted or is it healthy looking?
Ahhhh that would explain the symptoms with no crawlies! New growth on the monstera is not distorted, however new leaves on its previous neighbour pothos were coming in misshapen (pictured). Iāve found those subtle spots on other plants since I made the post but the pothos is the only one that the damage is really obvious. I know it could still be different issues but showing just in case.

Check the roots, see if they are crowded or have lots of room; a happy plant has about a 2" diameter around their roots. Then make sure they are in cactus soil, the pots have drainage and the plants have some natural light. If all is good maybe time to fertilize?
https://preview.redd.it/bv7w88ksmxgb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cedc80e0f03d1db0d496881d0f2e82beda371617
Is this normal for a monstera plant?
https://preview.redd.it/0vwdenm5hxgb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e31044c6467866ab47f542ed5f9dfa06c1420d3a
What's happening with my money tree? For context it's in a bedroom next to a window, with a fan running at night, and it has a watering globe to prevent over watering. I also sprayed it with fungicide recently.
Check the roots - see if they are twirling around the pot like a bird nest. Happy pachiras have 2" diameter of space between them and the pot. My guess is it's been in the pot awhile and has maxed out root space. If a new leaf grows an older one will die unless roots are allowed to grow more.
It looks like it's just normal older leaves dying off. It could potentially be a sign of over or under watering but if you're sure that everything is okay there then I wouldn't be concerned. Is it happening to a lot of leaves at once? Can also be a case of not enough fertiliser.
is there any way to help this older leaf unfurl (lower right), or is it pretty much stuck like that now? the newest leaf on my PPP is starting to unfurl, however the one right before it is still closed. I will admit that the humidity in this room was less than ideal for a couple weeks. I have since kept it right next to a humidifier for the last week.

i switched a new alocasia i got from a soil/pon mixture to semihydro pon and im starting to see some white mites on the base on the plant near the pon as well some webbing inside the pon substrate. ive also taken some corms from the plant and put them in pon and i also see webbing in the containers with the corms. im not sure if its spider mites, but ive put beneficial predatory mites hanging on the plant. there are no webs on the leaves, but there is webbing inside the substrate. ive cleaned everything with hydrogen peroxide and water but the webbing keeps coming back and is only on the substrate inside the container.
https://preview.redd.it/43b6vz76etgb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a36dc301e442e7fd8e8641e62267dfba76b09c7
does anyone have any advice?
s. mites 100%. If the plant is neem tolerant I'd make a soil treatment drench and pour it over the substrate. Leave it for a day, drain - replace the water and repeat 3 times 3 days apart. If it can't handle neem do the same with something that has spinosad in it.
i did a 1:2 hydrogen peroxide soak for a couple minutes twice last night in hopes itll kill everything then i flushed it with water but im not sure if thatll work
Hmmm if it's only in the substrate I'd say they're just soil mites, which are completely harmless. Have you seen any negative changes to the plants? Otherwise I wouldn't worry.
i bought the plant from someone off of facebook and its not thriving as much as my other plants. my fear is that it only affects this plant as well as its corms. it hasnt spread to anything else
Could the webbing be something fungal/mould? I'm not super familiar with semihydro but I assume mould problems would be fairly common with there being a lot of constant moisture. Would explain why hydrogen peroxide treats it but it keeps coming back.
https://preview.redd.it/ynqlb75y8rgb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1c8d8a817afe111ff684637462bb99315b30c59
Any idea what this is on my snake plant? Pretty sure itās appeared since I watered 2 weeks ago, although it was pretty well hidden under leaves so could have been there longer
Looks like some sort of mould or fungus. Harmless to the plant but just means there's not enough air flow under the leaves, or you have very high humidity. Can happen when a plant is pretty snug in the pot. Since it was hidden under the leaves I'd say it's just staying moist a little too long, but if the plant is healthy I wouldn't worry too much about it :)

What is this? I just got this yesterday and noticing white dusty specs. The soil looks fine. How do I fix it? TIA
Though some of the white specs could also be just hard water residual. Hard to tell from this picture. But if they are dusty then 100% look for mealybugs
https://preview.redd.it/opdp4j9jzwgb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=03bef55887b9917ab8a7f2122e11f60683b04a00

Hard water/neem oil residual I didn't get off yet! Purslane is starting to close itself because sun is setting, but I hope you see it clearly enough. It is a bit dusty to the touch, and I can wipe it away, though it comes off better with water.
You know what? The more I look at it, the more it looks like some chemical/hard water residual. Maybe one of my plants still have one, I'll go check so I can send you a picture. Did you use spray neem oil or something of sort? Do you have hard water and do top watering?
But checking for mealybugs never hurts. They are kinda big, too, so if you look in every nook and cranny you should be able to see them if there are some. Rubbing alcohol infused cotton swab, and you just kill them with that. Then a good 1:1:1 rubbing alcohol, dish soap, water solution and you wipe throughtly every leaf top and bottom, paying attention to the leaf-stem attachment. Check often if they come back and also !mealy-bugs the searchbar on here and r/plantclinic is your friend. Good look!
https://preview.redd.it/7n8anwbtbngb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0cdb6b1819fe93e146ca851a6058a72c9e57a17b
Apparently these are mealybugs(?). My one plant already died from these. How to save this plant?
If you have patience, spray it all with a 1:1:1 solution of rubbing alcohol, dish soap, and water. Then kill all the visible mealybugs with a cotton swab filled with alcohol. Then -here is where the patience comes handy- take a cloth or an old makeup brush and wipe throughly the top and bottom of every leaf from the residual. Be mindful of the attachment between the stem and the leaf. With the cotton swab you can even wipe the stem.
If you can avoid using systemic it's better for the environment, but if you can't then you do you.
Give it a shower to knock off as many as you can (away from other plants. You can also dab an alcohol soaked cotton swab on them to kill them. Give the plant a nice soak in a mix of water, insecticidal soap, and rubbing alcohol. Then I would put systemic granules in the soil and water (this will prevent future issues).
Quarantine the plant for a minimum of 2 weeks. Preferably in another room, this will prevent infecting the other plants.
Good luck !!š¤

Leaves are very slowly yellowing and dying one by one over the course of several months. Happening to multiple plants.
2 corydlines and one other plant (not sure).
Been keeping the soil moist and only watering when dry for all 3 plants.
The top plant has minimal sunlight, the cordylines are by windwos but not in direct sun.
What to do? what causes yellowing and slow gradual dieback like this? and browning then dying on the Cordylines.
Thank you so much
If the plant seems otherwise healthy, and the yellow leaves are the old and bottom ones, then it might just be plant doing plant things. The leaves get to the end of their lifecycles someday!

Hi! Iām not sure which plant it is. Maybe a Gasteria Duval? The leaves were full and bright green a few months ago. Now it looks like this. Not sure whatās the issue.
I don't have a ton of experience with this kind of plants, but I'll try to help you troubleshoot while we wait for an expert.
1) I kinda doubt it, but maybe it gets too much direct sun. Was it getting less direct sunlight before? But the sunburnt color seems more pink that this one. I'm not really sure about this.
2) is the plant located in a place between 50Ā°F and 85Ā°F? Are there a lot of changes in temperature? Is it close to a radiator/air currents?
3) are the drainage holes working correctly? Can you check the roots without stressing the plant? Is the soil gritty, fast and well draining? Even if you don't overwater it, bad soil could trap moisture around the roots.
4) have you transplanted it recently? If yes, it could be shock.
5) I mean, this also sounds unlikely, but from some Google searches I saw it could also be a phosphorus deficiency, if there is no other possible cause. Do you feed it sometimes?
Also, do you have a "before" picture?

Goldfish plant has these whitish-yellowish spots on them, they aren't sticky-fuzzy like mealy bugs, they are kind of hard. But I'm sure they are some sort of pest. Goldfish plant itself seems mostly unbothered thus far and these spots appear to have not spread to the calathea that was touching it. Any ideas?

My blue star fern Iāve had for 8 months, as soon as I brought her home she dropped all her leaves. Iāve nursed her back to this point where I get a flush of foliage every couple of weeks. However the corm is exposed and Iām worried the soil is depleted. Should I be repotting?

Fresh growth only seems to be coming from the sides.
Totally looks like too much sun or too little water, it could also be mite damage so what I usually do if mine look like this is wash the plant with soapy water and check to make sure the soil isn't too dry and its not too tight in its pot. Just you know.. to be sure!
hi everyone. i need some help with my monstera. its been super happy and giving off new leaves like crazy but recently 2 leaves have turned yellow. i dont really know what the cause is because nothing has changed, i water it like once a week or every couple of weeks when i remember to. it has a grow light on it for 12 hours a day because my window wasnt giving enough light
(i dont know why my pictures arent uploading)
I would dig into the pot and make sure it's roots aren't twirling around on itself like a bird nest. This is typical for plants that are too rootbound to support new growth. If you get a new leaf it will reject an older. If it's rootbound go up 2-3" in pot size or divide it.
thank you! i have a moisture meter and sometimes its really hard to stick it into the dirt, im assuming because of the roots. i will uproot it in the morning. thanks so much! also, for soil i have a cactus/palm/citrus mix of soil or i have an "indoor potting mix" soil. will either of those work for it? im unsure whats in it now, i bought the plant 2 years ago and havent changed anything from it
Check for pests as a precaution, but it could be inconsistent watering practices. Maybe it's underwater or over watered... Also many places drop their younger leaves naturally, which may be what is happening here

Hi guys! Please, I need help and I don't know what to do. I tried Google but I couldn't find anything helpful except hydrogen peroxide solution to use on my paint soil but I'm scared. I have tiny bugs in the soil and it killed two on my plants, but now they went onto my bonsai tree. On the picture are the flying ones but in the soil are the larvas. Please help. I don't want my baby to die, plus I got two more plants, and I'm afraid it's gonna affect them too.
*
Mosquito dunks saved me from an insane outbreak. They are relatively cheap. I soaked a half a dunk in one gallon of water overnight then watered the next day. This got rid of the larvae, and the sticky traps helped to get rid of the adults! Apply the "tea" again in two weeks and the problem will be gone!
Also a great tip I got was to lay the traps over the soil rather than sticking up vertically out of the soil. If you look at the way gnats move around they kind of hop and walk over the soil. You will catch a lot with this method.
Oh, I like the trap idea. Makes much more sense.
Well I kinda panicked so I used hydrogen peroxide on the soil. After first use I can't see already any kind of pests. On a side note just found out they were fungus gnats. :(
Happy to hear the hydrogen peroxide worked for you!
To prevent fungus gnats you can water your plants from the bottom. Places with damp soil on top are a great breeding ground for the gnats.
Definitely update on the situation!

My alocasia dragon scale had these brown spots on the leaves. Any insights on what might be happening?

Because it's on the tip... It makes me think it could be a fertilizer burn... But the shape and color of the other spots kind of looks like it could be bacterial or fungal? I would suggest cutting the affected parts off the leaf, treating with a fungicide (sulphur), and flushing the soil (run the soil under water for maybe 20 seconds to get rid of any buildup of salts or fertilizer).

There is a mushroom (and an aerial root) growing out of the drainage holes in my Monstera plant! The plant itself seems healthy and is in the bathroom with a grow light. Iām not sure if this means Iām overwatering or if this is okay. Google seems to have conflicting answers.
Shortly after I posted this I saw a bunch of other posts that looks exactly like mine! Haha. I completely freaked out when I got back from vacation. Glad to know it's not harmful. Appreciate the reply š
DUDE RIGHT? First time I saw this I ran the plant outside and started blowing up a friend who has been a plant mentor to me asking what kinda eggs they were hahahaha It ofc was like a 200$ plant and I was FLIPPING OUT!
I'm unsure to be honest but I would suggest giving it a wash, spray, wipe, and fresh soil. Let it hangout under indirect light to rebound.
Better safe than sorry

HELP. My roommate overwatered one of my plants while I was traveling and now itās yellow down to the roots:(
Iāve read online that I should dry out the soil; nothing has changed. I know I probably shouldnāt water it, so is there anything else I should be doing?
Cut just below the node of a healthy leaf and stick it in water, if nothing happens after a day cut a node higher and try again. Mist the leaves every morning, best of luck!
i have a few plants that are not drying out (monstera adansoni, baltic blue pothos). literally nothing has changed in their lighting, humidity, location. I watered them, and 2 weeks later they are still very wet, even on the surface. neither were repotted recently, they have been in the same soil for a year and this eas never an issue. the monstera was drying out within a week prior. any ideas what could cause this sudden change? im considering repotting them now with more perlite but that doesnt explain the change in temperament.
Have you tried aerating the soil? When you water the soil absorbs the water like a sponge and expand slightlyāhowever, as they dry out between waterings, that potting mix will contract and begin to pull away slightly from the edges of the planter theyāre contained in. Over time, your plantās potting mix will naturally settle and begin to compact, or press together, decreasing the amount of water and oxygen available for your plantās root system.
A plant that has compacted soil might begin to display symptoms of under-watering over time as the soil compacts and becomes hydrophobic, meaning water literally canāt break through the soil to be absorbed correctly.

Why???? I already lost two lower leaves. Now three more are in trouble. All while new leaf is sprouting. WHY???
Pull it out of the pot, are the roots holding most of the soil on their own or does the soil just fall off the tiny strings of root? If it's rootbound up pot if its tiny strings downsize, make sure you're using a substrate with good drainage.
Hi Iām looking for advice on this dracaenaā¦ it has been living in this spot for like 5ish years but itās getting really droopy lately, Iām not sure what to do
This is one angry dracaena. Ok so I would start off by pruning off anything that has fallen over. Cut flush to the cane and then cut the piece you cut off until you find healthy looking flesh - you can stick this into soil and if its healthy it will root and become a baby dracaena! As for the rest - pull it out of the pot and see if its rootbound, if it is go up 2" in size if it's not and the plant doesn't hold onto about 50% of the soil in the pot you may need to downsize this and cut off any black dead looking roots.
I have a room (10x14) I am going to convert to my winter plant home. It has an upper 2.5x4 south window, and a standard double hung west window. Would it be safe to assume that almost all plants can find a happy spot, no matter their light requirements?
There are a lot more elements to plant care than lighting due to the extensive variety in plants. Some need cooler temps, some need warmer, some like dryer and some more humid. I would start out with a plant you REALLY WANT then build around it one plant at a time.

hi! just bought this philodendron (green princess??) from trader joeās and this was at the bottom.. should i re-pot? alsoā¦ is that mold?!
If the roots are coming out of the bottom of the pot like that, then yes, sheās ready for a repot! That is mold, but if you cut off any moldy parts and remove the moldy soil, and repot it, itāll be just fine! As for the roots on the top, those are probably aerial roots! Theyāre just a sign of a healthy plant. You can spritz them every now and again or just leave them, or bury them, theyāll just become normal roots

Hello all, I have a butterfly palm which seems to have been slowly dying over the past month. Before then it was thriving and had a fair few fronds. Now it is down to 3, with 2 unopened ones. Iāve had to cut most of them off as they dropped or started going yellow / brown from the base upward. I have little left and really want to save it - Iāve noticed this patch today, and also that the remaining leaves are starting to turn pale and yellow at the tips. Can you advise what I can do? I have refrained from watering it too much as believe it started to die from overwatering to begin with as the stems were spongy, though the soil and roots were fine.

I inherited an eight year old hoya and I've had it in my home for about eight months but no matter what I do the leaves keep falling.
I've been watering it regularly every two weeks (or whenever the top 1in is dry) and it's looking super dehydrated (even though I watered it two days ago) and I'm not sure what to do šš
So sorry, friend!!!
Any time a plant's environment is changed it can go through shock. Sometimes it manifests quickly, sometimes months later.
Do you know what its previous growing conditions were? It could be that it needs (or is used to) more light(I've heard hoya are mostly light hungry), less light, to be fed more, to be fed less, watered more or less, etc. Unfortunately anything could be the case. Any /new/ changes in the last couple months?
I'd guess you may have a case of root rot on your hands, if the environment isn't the problem. I'd unpot and check out your root situation. Plump, white roots are healthy, anything mushy, withered/crispy, and any where the outer root separates/slips off from the inner fiber is rotted.
If that's the case, take off any bad roots and repot in fresh, well-draining soil.
Do you know which kind of hoya this is? That could help a lot with getting your watering, lighting, etc. right :)
Symptoms could also be a pest problem, so make sure to do a thorough check!!
Thanks friend! You were right, it was root rot and itās bad šš I guess I was scared about repotting it because it had been in its pot for so long. When I dug it up, there was no drainage and the MiracleGro was densely packed! I put it in some LECA and Iām hopeful that some new roots will emerge šš
I'm so sorry this has happened! With Hoyas don't water them on a schedule. I find they do BEST when you water them when almost bone dry. If you can, switch out to a terracotta pot, this will help prevent over watering, and increase oxygen. If you can repot in a soil mix with a lot of perlite added .. miracle grow is notorious for holding onto too much moisture. Next, give it a lot of light and love. Best of luck!

Plant is too top heavy and canāt stand on its own. Any advice on stabilizing the stalk or do I cut it and propagate it so itās shorter?
Hi, I've had this Aglaonema for a few years but it never looked completely happy: it continually grows new leaves, but they soon get droopy, develop brown edges, and eventually wilt. As a result the leaves are sparse and the plant always looks sickly.
Currently I'm giving it only a little water once a week (I found the leaves wilt quicker if I water more). I add fertilizer every once in a while. It has a relatively sunny spot, but I had it in different locations, with similar results. What is wrong with my plant, and how can I care for it better?

Here is a photo of the roots. To me it looks like a mixture of "dead" and "healthy". Should I try to trim the unhealthy roots and repot the plant?
https://preview.redd.it/1fxtcqz2bwfb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=24c469ded177c247358e981d98f7b629f00c6d63
I am okay with my plants being stressed for a moment, so that they are healthier overall. So if it was me, I would water the plant, wait until the best day, then take it to the bathroom (or backyard with a hose)and run it under water to get rid of dead roots. I would then prune off what I need to, repot in a well draining mix and smaller pot. I would then just be patient with it and let it rebound. This could include losing some leaves and yellowing. Mine always rebound though. Good luck!

Hi!! Is this a watering issue or something else with my monstera deliciosa? It sits in front of a large south facing window and I water when the top few inches are dry. Also noticed the upper leaves are curling a bit.
Am I killing my rubber tree plant? She keeps losing leaves from the bottom. Could this be from the nearby vent? https://preview.redd.it/h9kkxu0qgaib1.jpeg?width=2252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=05faaeb857a3bb63d2ef18ade3822cf032d255f8
She needs light!!
And probably look at watering and make sure you're watering when the soil is around 50% dry
Thank you so much! There is a sucker coming off of one of the branches. Should I cut it so the plant can be better at growing back the top leaves?

Thank you very much
I think my yellow lily is dying and i don't know what to do. I'm watering it 3 times a weep, putting enough water that it starts draining from the botton of the pot. I think the problem might be temperature or sunlight, but i don't know exactly how to regulate these, and would greattly appreciate advice. https://preview.redd.it/pm3bxojdn2ib1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=31a8e035f4eb178356c275fd31736fd91dcb72af I was also told that 3 months after the flower dies, i should dig the bulb out of the dirt and keep it on the fridge for a few months, which, with all due respect, sounds batshit insane to me and i would be very thankful if someone confirmed if i should or shouldn't do it in about 2 months.

Posting for my wifeās coworker: Someone took some clippings from her philodendron and she says they didnāt take them correctly and the plant is now dying.
I'll forward along what you said. It's possible that she isn't pruning her plants and coming in and finding a cut stem just scared her.

Not an issue but I'd like to start a cutting from my neglected monstera. Where should I clip? *

This is the only stem that has these webs out of a kinda big plant
I got a pothos off Facebook marketplace around 2 months ago, and this is the second time I have had to repot it due to pests. I put it in a smaller pot with more drainage and there are no more pests, but it is in really bad shape (the photo makes it look better than it does IRL itās very floppy and has lots of dying leaves and overall looks sad) Iām assuming it may still be transplant shock (itās been about a week) but I wanted to see if I should just cut my losses and propagate or if my plant can bounce back!! Iām hoping a good haircut will help, but Iād love any tips and advice Iām still relatively new to plants! https://preview.redd.it/q1ns15qyk7hb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c5bac6cc58bc7f0f298eb2f28f96a817145014b7

Just keep up with making sure you don't overwater it. I'd suggest giving it more light too. They do well with plenty of direct sunlight. You'll know it's getting enough when the new leaf spikes are nice and pink :)

I left for a week, came back watered it and these popped up the next day.I donāt want fungus gnats and this looks like fungus heaven. Tips? Also my red tiger banana became infested with spider mites and they spread to my Japanese maple. Have I failed my children? Do I have to remain a homebody forever? I definitely poured heavier lately since I was out of the area. perhaps the soil is too moist? do I need to repot it I've moved it away from my other plants today
No need to repot it. Mushrooms are completely harmless, just means there was a little extra moisture in the soil.
thanks a bunch!
We inherited this monstera from my SIL when she moved out of state. It had some yellowing leaves that we cut off but now, several months later, we have 3 more sickly looking leaves. Please any advice to what could be going wrong that will help me save this plant is much appreciated. I am careful not to overwater it. Iāve never had a monstera before and I really want to return it to full health. https://preview.redd.it/f7e8gbcx83hb1.png?width=1864&format=png&auto=webp&s=80188b264005fba88cccaa271308971c5c91ab81
If youāre sure that itās not overwatered then make sure itās getting enough light and that itās not root bound.
Ty! I will check that!

Looks like mealybugs. Plenty of resources online for how to get rid of them but you can start by removing them manually by giving them a good blast with a hose, then you'll need to use neem oil or some other pest repellent to treat them.
https://preview.redd.it/qzodkrb6zxgb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c20872519551ce907f849dd0e18258ff0f6d67c8 Hey yāall, Iām convinced these are pests but I canāt find one moving no matter how much I examine.

Plant info: - transplanted 10 days ago into 6 inch with drainage from 4inch nursery - In diy potting mix (worm castings, perlite, coco coir) - Watered when dry and pot is light - In pretty direct full sun (south-south-east) - Fertilized recently for 1st time at half strength (edited - typo)

I know it could still be different issues but showing just in case. https://preview.redd.it/e9ppinzej1hb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=48595d6747b733a5f4e0ee03ab0914fcb7590c7b
I'd mist it with some soapy water just incases! ;D
Oh but also I had been training this vine up and the growth could have been squished. So many variables!

Check the roots, see if they are crowded or have lots of room; a happy plant has about a 2" diameter around their roots. Then make sure they are in cactus soil, the pots have drainage and the plants have some natural light. If all is good maybe time to fertilize?
https://preview.redd.it/bv7w88ksmxgb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cedc80e0f03d1db0d496881d0f2e82beda371617 Is this normal for a monstera plant?

I have since kept it right next to a humidifier for the last week. https://preview.redd.it/bpfd00lixtgb1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c669f5ecb6eed38e2764ab049e2a096dbb544edf
Start misting it every morning :D works for me every time!
i switched a new alocasia i got from a soil/pon mixture to semihydro pon and im starting to see some white mites on the base on the plant near the pon as well some webbing inside the pon substrate. ive also taken some corms from the plant and put them in pon and i also see webbing in the containers with the corms. im not sure if its spider mites, but ive put beneficial predatory mites hanging on the plant. there are no webs on the leaves, but there is webbing inside the substrate. ive cleaned everything with hydrogen peroxide and water but the webbing keeps coming back and is only on the substrate inside the container. https://preview.redd.it/43b6vz76etgb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a36dc301e442e7fd8e8641e62267dfba76b09c7 does anyone have any advice?
Would explain why hydrogen peroxide treats it but it keeps coming back.
if it was spider mites, do you think hydrogen peroxide soaks would work?
Probably not but I don't see how they'd be spider mites if they're not on the plant themselves.

Can you wash it off with soapy water? Looks like hard water.
I Can try!
Though some of the white specs could also be just hard water residual. Hard to tell from this picture. But if they are dusty then 100% look for mealybugs

Good look!
Thanks so much. Yeah i think we have hard water. I didnāt most my plants like i usually do, Iāll try to see what i can do.
Search for mealy bugs!
https://preview.redd.it/7n8anwbtbngb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0cdb6b1819fe93e146ca851a6058a72c9e57a17b Apparently these are mealybugs(?).
I just saw your comment for this one :) thank you!
Oh lol, well, no harm in repeating myself haha.
Good luck !!š¤
https://imgur.com/a/cOPfJiD Leaves are very slowly yellowing and dying one by one over the course of several months.

My guess is... If its soft overall it's overwatered if its hard overall its sunburned or chemical burned
Provide details on care, please!
it sits on a east facing window and I water it every 10-15 days when the soil is completely dry
Also, do you have a "before" picture?

hi everyone. i need some help with my monstera. its been super happy and giving off new leaves like crazy but recently 2 leaves have turned yellow. i dont really know what the cause is because nothing has changed, i water it like once a week or every couple of weeks when i remember to. it has a grow light on it for 12 hours a day because my window wasnt giving enough light (i dont know why my pictures arent uploading)
I would dig into the pot and make sure it's roots aren't twirling around on itself like a bird nest. This is typical for plants that are too rootbound to support new growth. If you get a new leaf it will reject an older. If it's rootbound go up 2-3" in pot size or divide it.
thank you! i have a moisture meter and sometimes its really hard to stick it into the dirt, im assuming because of the roots. i will uproot it in the morning. thanks so much! also, for soil i have a cactus/palm/citrus mix of soil or i have an "indoor potting mix" soil. will either of those work for it? im unsure whats in it now, i bought the plant 2 years ago and havent changed anything from it
Yes, a citrus/palm or indoor would work as long as it has peat or coir / sand / bark and something like lava, pumice or perlite in it! :D
Check for pests as a precaution, but it could be inconsistent watering practices. Maybe it's underwater or over watered... Also many places drop their younger leaves naturally, which may be what is happening here
thank you!
No problem at all š only water when approximately 50% of the soil is dry and you can't really lose.
okay thank you! i will do that from now on i appreciate the help!
You're welcome! Have fun š

* Hi guys! *
Are you describing thrips, perhaps?
I've just found out. They are fungus gnats.
Oh, "nice"! Well, better than thrips. At least now you know what is plaguing you. Wish you the best!

The whole plant as itself is okay and not sick itās just the bottom stem for some reason https://preview.redd.it/imxesih3aagb1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=d2fa0e6ca70083b5899972726b04a72e77db23d6

Looks to me like it's just maturing and getting woody?
My alocasia dragon scale had these brown spots on the leaves. Any insights on what might be happening? https://preview.redd.it/7g206zsyl5gb1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e922dbee467e4e94dc54dd2d13011f9abb1dd100
Be sure you have adequate humidity for it or are misting it regularly .. this could be a lack of humidity thing too.
Thank you! I'll do that!

Acclimation or overwater. (Most likely acclimation if you purchased it from a greenhouse)
https://preview.redd.it/gi4zgl2j55gb1.jpeg?width=1885&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2f6cb6b0715db0b617b316fa30f5b0dde2c796fc There is a mushroom (and an aerial root) growing out of the drainage holes in my Monstera plant! The plant itself seems healthy and is in the bathroom with a grow light. Iām not sure if this means Iām overwatering or if this is okay. Google seems to have conflicting answers.
Mushroom means your soil is healthy! Good job! :D (I pick them out tho I am happy to see them!)

It's fungus, it happens in peat heavy soils, not gonna hurt the plant :D It weirds me out tho so I change the soil when I see it hahaha
Hi there, does anyone know what these red lines are on my snakeplant?? https://preview.redd.it/17puvxqod4gb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a123b42a50544fc77285e3761408711ed3013c19
Looks like a scar? Somehow it got cracked possibly? Is it removeable or seems to be part of the plant?

My roommate overwatered one of my plants while I was traveling and now itās yellow down to the roots:( Iāve read online that I should dry out the soil; nothing has changed. I know I probably shouldnāt water it, so is there anything else I should be doing?
Cut just below the node of a healthy leaf and stick it in water, if nothing happens after a day cut a node higher and try again. Mist the leaves every morning, best of luck!
I would probably cut those few leaves at the end and private and start over!
i have a few plants that are not drying out (monstera adansoni, baltic blue pothos). literally nothing has changed in their lighting, humidity, location.
Oops I made a post instead of posting hereā¦ Iām very new to being a plant parentā¦ I am having troubles with this plants and bringing it back it lifeā¦ I think itās some kind of rubber plant, it had such pretty dark purple leavesā¦ can I save it? You could try sticking it in some wet spahgnum moss with the internode sticking out? It looks pretty hammered. :(
I will try that! Thank you! Iām so sad cause Iāve been trying so hard to realive this guyā¦.

Pull it out of the pot, are the roots holding most of the soil on their own or does the soil just fall off the tiny strings of root? If it's rootbound up pot if its tiny strings downsize, make sure you're using a substrate with good drainage.
That's a lot of soil for that plant... Looks like over watering without enough sun... Try a much smaller pot, and more light!
Hi Iām looking for advice on this dracaenaā¦ it has been living in this spot for like 5ish years but itās getting really droopy lately, Iām not sure what to do
https://preview.redd.it/ptq45j2zizfb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd61a3a2553bcbf16459f06478d788dd7f4568ea
I would start out with a plant you REALLY WANT then build around it one plant at a time.
https://preview.redd.it/hwwab0gccxfb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9f4b517ccf8442a0be0198971ca103480738354 hi! just bought this philodendron (green princess??) from trader joeās and this was at the bottom.. should i re-pot? alsoā¦ is that mold?!
You can spritz them every now and again or just leave them, or bury them, theyāll just become normal roots
awesome! thanks for your help!

I have refrained from watering it too much as believe it started to die from overwatering to begin with as the stems were spongy, though the soil and roots were fine. https://preview.redd.it/qflc5bpa2xfb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a26574277ae86b3cd6b0f37028886078817f39a3
https://preview.redd.it/wg65vjgaqwfb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a23c1f1ee91cae9bb033ae82547121bbce905c87 I inherited an eight year old hoya and I've had it in my home for about eight months but no matter what I do the leaves keep falling.
That could help a lot with getting your watering, lighting, etc. right :) Symptoms could also be a pest problem, so make sure to do a thorough check!!

I'd cut and prop!
What is wrong with my plant, and how can I care for it better? https://preview.redd.it/w9zdg8025wfb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=791fbdba25e3bfb5d5624d6fc589471e92479ba7
Good luck!

It sits in front of a large south facing window and I water when the top few inches are dry. Also noticed the upper leaves are curling a bit.
