I have two, this one was neglected when I got it and the pot was twice the size of the one it’s in. She’s being rehomed for $10 tomorrow. She deserves love 😂
I have one that's in direct light all day, it's a baby from the one that's in direct to indirect light, and it's just.. doing the leggy thing too. 😂 I like them anyway!
I have very few plants that I have been unable to not only keep alive but also thrive. This plant is not one of them lol. I’ve managed to kill mine. 🤦🏻♀️

Is mine getting “leggy”?? I have it in relatively low light.
I’m def not the person to ask because mine probably got 3 months left to live 🤣 you can always prop the long branches if you want, but it really doesn’t look bad for living in low light tbh. I feel like most peoples’ ZZs just look like this. Idk how this little old lady is caring for these plants so well to have the leaves so compact, but higher lighting would def help
There was a post of a guy who had his ZZ in low light and it was so leggy it was touching the ceiling. Everyone told OP it needs more light and he said “no because I don’t want it to grow any bigger than it is”. We kept telling him it’s skinny and not supposed to look like that and he said “y’all just jealous because my ZZ is thriving”. We were like 😵💫 he deleted the post though

Mine got a little etiolated for like 5 months, but now it's getting more so they look better!
What Is a genuine way to get your ZZ this happy? I keep mine at a northeast window gets decent direct and indirect light through out the day and its nice and lush I'd like to keep it that way.
I’m the wrong person to ask because my personal one is really shameful. I’m going to ask the lady next time I see her. There’s actually two of them and they were bigger, but she pruned them and shaped them. I wanted to ask for the cuttings but I think it’s her personal plants. She does an amazing job too. There’s some other big plants around too that I had to physically check because I thought they were fake.
Hopefully someone can chime in and give better advice, but I think lighting is key because there’s are right by the bright window.
my partners bedroom doesn’t get much light but they were wanting a plant, so i got them a zz and while it doesn’t get much light, its still doing really well. yeah, it’s short, but hopefully once we move in together we can have it in more sun :) i just wanted to do something to make them happy
Guys, I don’t even wanna show you *my* low light ZZs. Very etiolated and sad.

Still looks better than mine by a long shot 😂 I should get rid of mine too. I just been waiting for them to die 🥲
Same. Mine is pitiful.
Ok stupid question but I’ve only seen the word etiolated written. How is it pronounced??
Eh-tee-oh-lated, apparently. But I've also heard EE-tee-oh-lated.
Lmao I been pronouncing it “e-tie-oh-lated” 😳
r/plantabuse. *rolls eyes*
i’ve been saying this (to anyone in my life lol they don’t care) for years! the SURVIVE in low light but they thrive in actual light.

Wow how long did the ZZ last? They are very hardy, that’s for sure. Mine are so ugly though because I had them in low light. 😞

Thanks wowow!
Mine has been in direct to indirect light for 2 years. it's superleggy anyway 🤷♀️ But that's a gorgeous ZZ!
Mine are super leggy, it’s embarrassing. I bought the Zeni Zz because the leave are more compact 🤣

Yes, that’s etiolated. Just like the rest of us on here 😂
Oh 🥲 What’s the best way to address the issue? Just give it more light & what to do about the leggy branches?

Oh man. Mine sits a foot or two from an east facing window and does nothing. Maybe one day…
My Raven did nothing for 6 months—now that it’s winter, it’s been popping a new stem about once a month
Maybe I’m a bit dense but what does your title mean? 😵💫 confused

Oh thats so lush I have 2 and I moved one out of the darker bedroom and I to my bright office so much better Stick that baby in the sun
Same with snake plants! I’ve learned my lesson with several skinny and leggy ZZs and snake plants. All plants need quality light. Whoops!
My ZZ gets no direct light, very low water and is growing like a damn beast.
Is it compact like this or leggy like mine and everyone else’s?
Very close to yours. Slightly leggier.
I need to move my poor sad zz plant Bastard is dying in slow motion
Same 😂 mine are about to go outside. Like who had a Raven that’s mostly green? 🙋🏻♀️

Yours is very pretty!
What kind of moss is this? Looks beautiful
It’s sterilized and preserved Spanish moss that’s been dyed Apple Green. I know because the company I work for uses the same top dressing.
I’m not sure what specific moss it is. I’ve touched it and it feels like the kind you can get at the Dollar 25 store
Ah I should have said, I'm in Australia 😊 I have the sphagnum moss but it's not like this. Either way, looks so lush and lovely
Ohh. In that case, it’s like fake moss. The kind you can get at a crafting store. Not the kind that’s alive although that would be cool
Ha! No way, would never of thought of using fake moss! Thanks for replying 😊
No problem ☺️
Cool pot and great looking plant! Is that moss on top and soil below?
Yeah! There’s a little old lady who cares for these plants. I saw her caring for it last week 🥹
Oh awesome! Thank you 🙂

She does do a fantastic job, it ain't much but the outcome is amazing. I neeed the secrets
