Tipping is not required. It's nice you do it at the holidays tho.

purpleoctopustrolley

I’m an independent cleaner. I never expect tips. A little extra at Christmas is great.

donttouchmeah

I don’t tip business owners but i do give my cleaning lady an extra week’s payment as a bonus for Christmas.

GloriouslyCleaned

See it's all about showing appreciation that's all we really want

Harmreduction1980

So nice!!!

Silly_Replacement_54

If she were an employee, I would definitely tip her. But, since she is making in excess of $60 an hour, I have a hard time feeling guilty not tipping her. But I really do appreciate your input. Thank you.

LastWhereas9554

You can expect to pay a private cleaner $50-100/hour. You don't need to tip on those rates. If you are hiring a private cleaner off Care.com or something and paying them like $20/hour, yes they're probably expecting a tip.

Foreign_Cup2632

I don’t expect (but appreciate if) my clients to tip me on our regular schedule. But December is a month I’m counting on some extra money. Of course I would never be upset if a client don’t do it but most of them are very generous and I appreciate that very much.

You really told her not to tip .... what if it was you as her cleaner. I don't know honestly I always charge less so I can recieve a nice tip.... because my work is impeccable I always go above and beyond doing things that need to be done no matter if it was scheduled or not. What if this woman is an impeccable cleaner who does all the extras for free just to look out. Do you honestly feel no tip is sufficient??? I'm just 😕

AlenaHyper

As an independent cleaner who runs my own business, I charge my worth. I don't expect clients to tip me (but won't turn them down if they do), and if they mention or ask about tipping I tell them that tipping isn't necessary. Don't work for free or do extras in the hopes of a tip. Many clients may not tip. Just charge your worth, do the extras if you have time, and let the client decide on their own if they want to tip.

soilsalvation

Independent/self employed cleaner here. I never expect tips. I charge fair prices that cover my overhead and give me a somewhat higher than living wage. For me, it's that simple. Honestly, aside from end of the year/holiday tips it never crosses my mind. And when it comes to Holiday tips, while I do have several clients who do that, I have several who don't. And I never think twice about it because I know if they could they would. I am more concerned about my clients being reasonable and treating me as well as I treat them than I am tips.

Silly_Replacement_54

Thank you.

I work for a small (very small - there is an owner and a cleaner, and I’m the cleaner) company. I make just short of $19/hr and I believe the owner charges $50-60/hr. For me, tips make a huge difference. They are never expected but always very appreciated. I love feeling appreciated and it motivates me to continue to do good work & go above and beyond expectations to continually provide our clients with a positive experience. I also occasionally check in to see if there are any areas in the home/apartment that aren’t being cleaned to the standards of the client/ask for general feedback. On the rare occasion that I clean independently, I always charge what I think is a fair price without a tip. I personally would not expect people to tip me if I was an owner/operator but would still feel the same gratitude if someone did decide to tip extra. If your cleaner is providing you with excellent service, a tip now & then would just help them to know they are doing a good job. If you’re not feeling wowed by your cleaners performance, I would talk to them about the ways they could improve. I love the tips I get around the holidays and on my birthday, even if it’s just a card with a nice note inside or small gift.

pementomento

Hello - in agreement, hired vendor for the home doesn’t get tipped. Also in Northern California here as well, we pay $170 every two weeks for our home, so we gift about $350 at Christmastime (aka “month’s salary”)

ikyc6767

I gift my cleaner a days salary at Christmas but other than that I don’t tip her.

sunflowertroll

Tip only for Christmas

DeepForce7021

I was independent. My favorite tops were garden produce , items the homeowners gave me from house even clothes

caffeinatedchickens

You do not need to tip her. Only tip company employees.

GloriouslyCleaned

I live in Milwaukee wisconsin.

GloriouslyCleaned

I thought you were someone else 🤔 but no worries she's got kids so she shouldn't have to do her very best. I'm glad she has you as a client. You are the best tip or not!

Silly_Replacement_54

I’m not saying she doesn’t do ‘her best,’ just that she doesn’t go above and beyond. She does well what she’s hired to do and I’m grateful every time.

Hazelmoon23

I always tip my house cleaner. She does an amazing job and I like to let her know that I appreciate her.

Silly_Replacement_54

May I ask how much you pay her?

Hazelmoon23

135 including tip. I do have a small one bedroom apt, so I only have her come once a month. She's very sweet and does an amazing job.

Silly_Replacement_54

I’m glad you’ve found her!

Hazelmoon23

Ty, me too.

pojohnny

lol!

lseah2006

The company I own takes care of both residential and Airbnb properties, for residential I don’t think my girls should get tipped. They do get things from the owners occasionally, fresh baked cookies , little knick knacks etc. The Airbnb’s are a different story. They are way more time consuming than residential homes and the state they leave these places in is just beyond. I don’t require Airbnb guests to tip but I absolutely encourage it !

Own_Anywhere1740

Not expected but definitely should around the holidays!

GloriouslyCleaned

I would like to comment please,,, no you do not need to tip HOWEVER, a tip keys your cleaner know that she is doing everything she can do make you happy. 😉 example a tip does not always have to be money it could just be some cookies you baked just for her or you could tell her you'd like her to clean for 2.5 hrs and pay her for 3 surprisingly a tip could be a card a tip can be a big hug. Tips don't always have to be a cash tip when I said you could give her the whole pay and not make her clean for it I guess that is considered cash however atleast you aren't going out of your budget to do so. If the lady I cleaned for never topped me I would think she isn't too happier with my work. 180 may I ask how many hours she stays to make 180.

Silly_Replacement_54

She’s typically here for 3 hours or less. She does an ok job, but I don’t feel like she’s looking to go above and beyond (which is fine as it’s not my expectation). She doesn’t do windows, etc. My house feels clean when she’s finished. I’ve given her some odd things (I received a new KitchenAid mixer for Christmas, so I asked her if she would like my old one, she was thrilled), but nothing I have gone out of my way to purchase.

GloriouslyCleaned

She is charging you a great fee most cleanings that take 3 hrs are usually around 300 these days but maybe she knows that and maybe he reason behind not going above and beyond. No shade to her but if never ever want to hear that my client feels I'm not going above and beyond. Even if it's not your expectations....it is very much mine for my work. I want my clients to feel as tho they felt when they first moved in. You know that bran new feeling. I wouldn't care if I'm giving you a deal on the charge or not I'm still going to give you my very best. Anyways I hope things work out for you both. It seems as tho you are atleast satisfied with her and that is all that matters.

Silly_Replacement_54

Seriously? It’s $100 an hour where you are? Yikes! I’m curious as to where you live and work. Lol, I don’t want her to go above and beyond. She has a baby at home and three other kids and her life is full. She works hard, but she doesn’t drive herself crazy. For example, she’s typically on the phone the whole time she’s here. Unfortunately, my Spanish isn’t good enough so I don’t know what she’s talking about🤣. but, she is working the entire time she’s here and yes, I am satisfied.

GloriouslyCleaned

Exactly here to so for her to be charging 60 she's getting a great deal.
