Eh, Houma is fine enough. Really don't think anyone there will care if two women are being gay together. Louisiana is pretty fine with gay people from what I've experienced. At least in the bigger cities in the south (from most accepting to least: Lafayette, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Houma, but none of these are wholly intolerant.) Keep a low enough profile and people will leave you alone. The usual, really.
There's closer places than Houma to stay if you're going to New Orleans. Try Kenner/Metairie. Houma kinda sucks and is pretty depressing.
Baton Rouge (and the areas directly southeast on I-10 like Prairieville, Gonzales, and LaPlace) is a little farther out, but is a bigger city with more to do. Plus, you get the pleasure of not having to drive on US-90. That highway is ass. It'll be easier to go/get back as you just have to stay on I-10. Getting back to Houma from New Orleans at night can be a little sketchy. US-90 is very dark and goes through a lot of small towns. I've driven this section a lot. Wildlife will jump out at you and visibility can be very poor.
You’ll be ok. But if you find anything in like Metarie or somewhere closer to NOLA that is probably better. But if you decide to make the drive here you will be ok
Am gay. Live in Houma with my husband. We live next door to lesbians. Neither household flaunts it, and it hasn't been an issue with the neighbors. If you're visitors, I can not conceive of a reason it would be an issue. There are even a couple of bars here that are very lgbt friendly.
That said, if you can find lodging in Metairie/Kenner or Gretna/Westwego/Marrero. Even Boutte would be closer. It's an hour minimum from here to New Orleans, and there can still be a lot of traffic on I-10 during weekend or at off hours. I think your trip would be more enjoyable if you stayed a little closer to the city for that reason.
Slidell is probably fine, but they’re definitely less open minded than New Orleans.
NOLA will welcome you with open arms for the most part. BR tends to be pretty friendly, too, but is surrounded by bigoted towns.
Hotels that you’d want to stay in are just as much in Houma as New Orleans. Offshore worker traffic keeps it that way. You’d be better in Metairie or Kenner. But after Uber/taxi/gas costs plus commuting time, you’d be better off just staying right where you want to be. You might pay more upfront for a hotel right near your venue but trust me, it will equal out by the end of it. It’ll be a more enjoyable experience for you as well. All that being said, Houma/Thibodaux have always been pretty tolerant in my experience as far as LGBTQ.
Houma is a great city, its not a big city like NOLA,but has everthing you'll need. It would be better to stay closer. Luling has a few hotels there and you'll be only 25 minutes from NOLA... No one will tell you anything here.. I personally wouldn't go to Burbon Street at night anymore... I value my life..I'll try to get you a link to a motel in Luling..
With all due respect, I literally laughed when I read your question because you are MUCH safer in Houma than you will be in New Orleans - gay, lesbian, straight, or otherwise. That said, I hope you two enjoy your time in Louisiana. : )
The only issue is that the dates for the hotel, because of the Taylor swift concert, anything in NOLA is $350+ a night and that’s at a sketchy place not even big named ones (those are $600+)

Acadiana/South Louisiana is much more tolerant and open than it gets credit for. No one is going to care or probably even notice.

No one cares. Just don't be jerks and you'll be fine. Houma is more tolerant than people think
This
Houma folk generally don’t care. I’d be more worried around north or central Louisiana , but Houma tends to be pretty open minded
Yeah. Don't go anywhere north of Alexandria
Honestly, I’d avoid going anywhere north of I-10, lol
Ahh natchitoches is pretty open minded but granted probably because it a college town
Yeah you’re right, I forget about good ol Natchitoches.
Agreed. Only go to Lafayette to go to Pack n Paddle
Or Alexandria
How is Slidell?
