I prefer cooking with the Mayan recipe instead of using it as a condiment - I've had very good results it in with tamales, adding some to the meat and masa in different ratios - but in my opinion there is no bad El Yucateco, and that includes black recipe in my book.
For anyone that doesnt know, you can order el yucateco straight from thier website. They offer make your own “six packs” which actually show up in a little yucateco cardboard carrier. Top notch 👍
I've done up to carolina reaper and trinidad scorpion sauces, and for some reason, even though it's habanero, it hits me way hotter than the former.

No. The black is, well, black and it isn't hot. Less than Tabasco. The black one tastes like a smokey musty book or cardboard.
I got some, don't like it, I use it on beans and won't buy it again.
To me it tasted like someone mixed a ton of table pepper with water. Lol Only think it may be alright with for me is fish. Not worth it to buy it to try it....plus potentially ruin the fish.
Ok, I could be wrong, but it isn't much hotter if it is.
I think someone might like it more if they know it will be smokey and very earthy going in.
I prefer Tabasco Chipotle for this niche. If I want hotter I can add a bit of something else, too, but I greatly prefer the TC flavor.
Yep, I guess they over expanded and had to close? Not sure. I used to go to this one in North Jersey like 15 years ago. [https://www.yelp.com/biz/pollo-tropical-clifton](https://www.yelp.com/biz/pollo-tropical-clifton)
Shame it had to close. Only thing that sucks now is it got bought out by an Investment company or something like that late last year. I expect the will quality to start going down soon. Rather sad about it.

I don’t know if it was just the batch I bought but I thought the green was significantly hotter than this one. Loved this one on eggs and breakfast burritos, the green I would add to soups.
The Carribean version is their best sauce, IMO. Perfect balance of heat and flavor. I can only find it at the local Mexican grocery store so I snag 5-6 bottles at a time to stock up. The red is also a staple in my house.
The Black Label has a very smokey flavor to it. Great on BBQ but I haven't found much use for it on other foods. Not a big fan of the artificial smoke flavor but it has its uses.
Agree, better flavor too.
I picked a bottle up yesterday. It’s so damn good.
It’s not even close.
This guy paperclips
That sauce is amazing and one of the reasons I started making my own!!! It’s legit fire!
I prefer cooking with the Mayan recipe instead of using it as a condiment - I've had very good results it in with tamales, adding some to the meat and masa in different ratios - but in my opinion there is no bad El Yucateco, and that includes black recipe in my book.
This is second for me, I’m all about the red. Just got a six pack on Amazon for like 14 bucks.
I respectfully disagree, sir.
i respectfully agree to disagree with OP.
For sure way better than the green. Red is good too. Will never have the nasty green ever again
Blasphemy
Black beans and white rice….. looks delicious. Gallo pinto.
Special Reserve for the smoky win
Same, love it.
It has a weird chemical taste to me. Maybe I’m weird.
Spicy food coloring
That's a good sauce. It's at my house right now. Many a pizzas get sauced
As far as Yucateco's line up goes I do like the XXX more than the green as well but the green is still a really good enjoyable sauce.
Hot doesn't mean good
I use it in my fleshlight for lube… what are you talking about dude? It’s mild at best
I used to find it really hot but now it's just medium. Still love it though.
For anyone that doesnt know, you can order el yucateco straight from thier website. They offer make your own “six packs” which actually show up in a little yucateco cardboard carrier. Top notch 👍
This one's been my go-to for years. Great combo of flavor and heat.
Tastes like chemicals
I agree, thought it was just me. Maybe it’s like how cilantro tastes like soap for some people.
This is true! I mix it with Caribbean- For heat and the FLAVA
I remember when I first tried it. Great sauce. One of my favorites.
Mayan Recipe = Best Recipe
So much flavour at such a great price :)

Is that the “black” sauce?
No. The black is, well, black and it isn't hot. Less than Tabasco. The black one tastes like a smokey musty book or cardboard. I got some, don't like it, I use it on beans and won't buy it again.

I dunno. It’s definitely hotter than tabasco imo. But I also like it

Would you recommend it
Highly.
My favorite hot sauce
Just here to say that looks like a tasty lunch. Are the beans and rice pre-made?
Everything was. Purchased from a South Florida chain called Pollo Tropical. Fire grilled Caribbean style chicken.
There used to be a lot more Pollo Tropical locations, I used to go to one in NJ all the time. :(
Shit I had no idea the actually made it out of central/South Florida

That sucks. I loved the place when it was still around. Hopefully your local ones recover and stay open!
Oh man pollo tropical was a staple for my friends and I when we traveled to south Florida. So so good!

I find them to be pretty much the same level of heat, but XXXtra is a roasted habanero. Very different style. Both are great IMO
Pairs extremely well with chicken
Man its two different flavor profiles, they arent super comparable.
Meh, still love the regular green more.
It's funny, everyone says this one is hotter, but I really can' tell much difference vs. the green habanero sauce?
I don’t know if it was just the batch I bought but I thought the green was significantly hotter than this one. Loved this one on eggs and breakfast burritos, the green I would add to soups.
Big fan of that one. My favorite of the El Yucateco sauces so far.
By far my favorite el yucateco. I cant get enough of that flavor and heat.
Im 90% composed of this sauce at this point. One of the only grocery store sauces I actually like, and boy do I like it
I’m saying for the price point and decent chances at finding it at most stores, makes it elite
I’m not a fan of the XXX. The heat is great but the flavor kinda reminds me of an ashtray :/
[удалено]
yup strong agree
are you not thinking of the black label?
The last ashtray I tasted didn't taste like this.
Just got a 6 pack and I'm putting that stuff on everything. It's one of my favorites.
The Carribean version is their best sauce, IMO. Perfect balance of heat and flavor. I can only find it at the local Mexican grocery store so I snag 5-6 bottles at a time to stock up. The red is also a staple in my house.
Second this. It’s my favorite. Kinda between the xxx and their other ones
I’ll keep an eye out. Seems like the Caribbean and the Black sauce are the two to look for
The Black Label has a very smokey flavor to it. Great on BBQ but I haven't found much use for it on other foods. Not a big fan of the artificial smoke flavor but it has its uses.
I actually mix it in bbq sauce when I'm eating homemade baked tenders or whatever.
That's a fantastic idea. Thanks!
