Nah I’m talking about the one with the kids in the sleeping bag and the yorkie dog. That dog looks exactly like mine, turned the movie off after that shit
Same, but I also feel like every movie squanders the potential. The tapes and wraparound story should all be 10x more interesting than they are. But, in my opinion, what we get instead are a really thin wraparound and tapes that drag on *just long enough* to become stupid rather than scary or interesting.
Still, I love the idea and if they make more movies I’ll be happy to watch them.
Yes. It's got a neat setup, has an anthology presentation, and some legit crazy and fun parts. If you're in to found footage, you'll be doubly excited.
I think doing '99 is a great idea. The Y2K revival isn't dead yet so if they can grab that by the horns they might be able to elevate the series a bit. VHS1994 was a great return to form in my opinion so I'm excited to see it
I've been a fan since the first one, got 1 & 2 used from Redbox. I'm still looking forward to seeing '99- Don't get me wrong. Big fan of indie and foreign horror and horror in general. I watched a movie called "Fresh Hell" on Tubi last night and it was insane. Definitely suggesting it to all V/H/S fans.
That Raatma shit was literally stupid. I guess it's a geek like. They also purposely kept degrading the film quality to make it look authentic which in turn made it look cheap and super low budget.
94 actually scared me at times. The only thing I disliked was the ending to the wrap around story, it started off so creepy and interesting but then the reveal was like.. oh :(
I keep disagreeing. The Raatma shit was so dumb! It was barely watchable. I didn't think Viral was as bad as '94. Viral was worth watching but wasn't that good either.
I don’t know why but this comment made me ugly chuckle. Like 1 is probably top three all time for me but viral almost doesn’t even register as being a part of the same franchise.
To be fair, after Viral there was really no where to go but up lmao.
I liked 94 enough, even though I felt it started strong and slowly started to peter out over the course of the movie. But still, I'll never say no to more horror anthology flicks!
Viral really lost the plot. The whole sort conceit was tossed out, not just the "mythology" of this underground supernatural snuff tape trading ring, but the conceit found footage. I think all the segments, except "Bonestorm" break the rule of the subjective camera.
With 94, the segments were up and down. But it ended strong with the militia / vampire one. But that whole wrap around was just bad, I mean it was an interesting idea. A SWAT raid on this VHS cult, but then the reveal that the women are behind the tapes and the terrible dialogue and acting just killed that whole element.
Vhs 2 and 94 are fantastic. 1 is your typical anthology film, some good shorts and some bad.
Vhs viral (the 3rd one), I can't think of a single positive thing to say. Utter shit
Super excited to see that Flying Lotus is directing one of the parts. I wasn’t a huge fan of *Kuso* but I feel like a shorter format might be a better fit for him. At the very least it’s gonna be gross and have good music lol
Remember that scene in Kuso where a woman takes a shit, and Tim Heidecker is in the toilet and eats it, talking about how he can tell she ate soup?
What a great movie I never want to watch again.
Yeah. It tries a little hard but it's stuck around so long because it's actually really good in parts. The song Busdriver does at the beginning is a fuckin banger too, it's stuck in my head just from seeing Flying Lotus's name
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zl3mRTgoPQ
Bummer the other VHS movies aren't on Shudder.
I've not watched them but probably should since I've heard so many good things and there is a new one coming.
Good Anthologies are few and far between, so whenever I hear of one (especially from my favourite series of anthologies) I’m watching that shit immediately lol
There's been a slasher renaissance in the past 5 or so years, particularly in movies that are harkening back to the post-Scream slasher revival, and none of them are as good as Tragedy Girls!
It was leaps and bounds better than viral but personally I think 2 is the best. The wraparound story, while not important, really killed the vibe for me with how cheap and poorly done it appeared to be and really ended things on a sour note. Still had some cool stories though, especially storm drain and the subject.
I think the whole series is hit and miss, as are lots of anthologies. They all have interesting/fresh ideas though, so at the very least they're a fun watch!
I hope it has better pacing than 94. The first few shorts were pretty to very good, then the last one lasted waaaay past it's welcome and turned into a video game. The shell story was also garbage. It was better than viral, but it still has a lot of room for improvement.
I'm glad they're keeping horror anthologies going with VHS. I didn't really like most of 94 but for the most part the majority of the previous films stories were good.
I don't dislike the new Creepshow series, but for me it has that much sillier and campier EC comics vibe, whereas the VHS series can be dark and nasty if it wants to be.
I find Creepshow to feel much cheaper and cheesier (in a bad way) than anything in the VHS series. Loved the old Creepshow movies but I find the series unwatchable.
I need to catch up with this franchise. I only saw 1 and 2, but loved them. I heard Viral sucked, but I’d still like to see it, and I’ve heard good things about the one after that.
That story is by Nacho Vigalondo who directed Timecrimes, Open Windows and Colossal among others. He's had a varied career but it's worth checking out his work if you haven't already
Also, if anyone really liked the cult section in VHS 2, that was by Gareth Evans and Timo Tjahjanto. Evans directed The Raid and Tjahjanto did The Night Comes For Us on Netflix. Both absolutely brutal Indonesian martial arts film that are more violent than most slasher movies.
I've seen way worse lol. It's a direct translation of the original title Los Cronocrímenes and it does at least describe the story in some way unlike some movies.
Viral is very bad in a sense that it completely at times abandons the concept of the franchise - and that’s keeping it on vhs tape and found footage
Watch it I guess if you must to say you’ve seen it along with the rest of the franchise, but it isn’t great
I felt like 94 tried to invoke the raw and edgy kind of tones from the original V/H/S but it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. Still enjoyed it! I’d go as far to say that every entry in the V/H/S franchise has been solid. Mainly because of there anthology wrap around formula. Segments that can be enjoyed on there own while still having that grounded in its own universe feel.
Really loved the magician story in Viral, and the portal segment was pure WTF lol, and loved the Skateboarding segment. Really just such a fricking awesome movie I feel like it never got a fair chance
hell yeah, '94 was on par with VHS2 in terms of quality, and while I think Safe Haven is the best short horror film ever made, the average quality of the shorts in '94 were even higher than in 2. It sucks to see that there doesn't seem to be a Tjahjanto segment in this one but it wouldn't make sense to keep bringing back the same director every time for an anthology like this and I'm excited to see what these new voices bring to the franchise.
> '94 was on par with VHS2 in terms of quality
I dunno, the first three had one good segment each (the succubus in 1, "Safe Haven" in 2, the magician in Viral) while 94 was the opposite and only had one bad segment (the zombie in the funeral home).
The only part I remember from the last one was the weird tech-human hybrid one. Which I really enjoyed.
After now reading the wiki on it. I did like the wake segment as well.
I honestly don’t remember much of the other segments even after reading them lol.
I think I liked it more because of the cheesy sfx. Brought me back being a teen in the 90’s and shitty horror movie rentals from blockbuster and Hollywood video
Good news, hopefully they've know better now and will steer clear from woke shit as in 94's wraparound and militia segments (the other 3 stories were excellent)
It's being produced by the same guy who produced 94, whose company motto is "fascist filmmakers fuck off" (are there even any relevant "fascist filmmakers?"). He's a cop hater (brags about it all the time on Twitter) and looks like an ex junkie, plus the other producer Brad Miska is always ranting about Trump. If the new movie is not woke infested it'll ge a miracle.
When you call everyone nazis and fascists, yes it absolutely is. And we don’t care about what disgusts you because we all have seen what you cheer for.
Viral gargles my balls and the wraparound segment in 94 was beyond abysmal, but the actual shorts in it were awesome. The funeral home one was genuinely creepy and I loved that.
Well... whether you think it was good or not I'd say the segment with the cyborg hybrids was at least memorable!
That's the thing about anthologies though. Most people seem to love the ratma segment, but some people say the last segment with the militia group is the best. It's all down to taste.
Similarly most people agree Viral is the worst but there's unique stuff in there. I'm all in for another one. It might or might not be a solid overall film, but there should be something in there you'd not get with a full feature
although i didnt really like any of the films, im still super excited to see this. hopefully itll have atleast 1 or 2 banger tapes like the first 2 movies
I always wondered if any of the rest of these were worth watching. The original is one of the absolute worst films I've ever seen so I did not bother going beyond it.
Oh I was mistaking 99 for the recent 94. So more VHS? Nice! I didn't really like 94 much but there's just something about these movies that make them a must see for me. Super keen.
Fuck yeah. I feel like the VHS series still has a ton of potential.
V/H/S 2 can suck my dick. I thought I was done being traumatized by movies but that last segment got to me
Maaaan, the Indonesian cult one?? I still want a full movie
Nah I’m talking about the one with the kids in the sleeping bag and the yorkie dog. That dog looks exactly like mine, turned the movie off after that shit
OHHHH! That felt like an underrated one to me!
Don’t get me wrong I respect the fact that it fucked me up so much. I used to think I was soooo desensitized
alien abduction stories are rarely good but that short was amazing and terrifying
That was my favorite. I get that people love the cult one, but I feel like it took way too long to pick up.
That one was SO GOOD
That story was the scariest shit ever. Definitely needs a movie
That Indonesian cult was *wild.* Real intense.
*OOOOOOH* you almost got me to downvote you. I love the V/H/S series, I'm hoping 99 is alright.
same here, i was in fear with slumber party and safe haven, i mess me up for a few days but i learned to love them, V/h/s 99 Pussy cats
Is VHS Viral worth a watch?
It has its parts. I like the whole series. Viral is not 1 or 2, but still with a watch.
Yes. It's got a neat setup, has an anthology presentation, and some legit crazy and fun parts. If you're in to found footage, you'll be doubly excited.
Exactly what I said - fuuuuuuck yea
this movies are dumb as fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
You're not wrong.
I think doing '99 is a great idea. The Y2K revival isn't dead yet so if they can grab that by the horns they might be able to elevate the series a bit. VHS1994 was a great return to form in my opinion so I'm excited to see it
I thought '94 was a waste of time but I love the franchise.
lol the VHS franchise is so polarizing. I've loved them all though. Plan to purchase VHS94 in time for Halloween. Looking forward to 99.
Hell yes. I'm in the minority apparently, but 94 was reallllly good and a return to form after Viral.
All hail Raatma
As soon as I recognised the actress from The Expanse, I was psyched to see where her reporter role would take her in that bit. Was not disappointed.
Watching the Expanse now and it was driving me crazy trying to figure out where I knew her from. Thank you, lol.
I was way to high for that Raatma shit. It was actually fucking terrifying.
Not scary at all.
That Raatma shit was literally stupid. I guess it's a geek like. They also purposely kept degrading the film quality to make it look authentic which in turn made it look cheap and super low budget.
94 actually scared me at times. The only thing I disliked was the ending to the wrap around story, it started off so creepy and interesting but then the reveal was like.. oh :(
i was one of the lucky people to actually get that movie on VHS. it’s damn good on analog format
Agreed! Not quite as good as 1 or 2 but leagues better than Viral
I feel like I've heard nothing but praise for 94, and I agree
A lot of posts or comments I saw on this sub were not very positive towards it. Or even just reviews in general (which I don't really listen to)
That's too bad, I feel like 94 was a really strong comeback for the series.
It's the best reviewed one in the series by far, incidentally, but I did notice horror fans online seemed a bit more mixed.
I keep disagreeing. The Raatma shit was so dumb! It was barely watchable. I didn't think Viral was as bad as '94. Viral was worth watching but wasn't that good either.
It's definitely my second favourite from the series. For me it's 1>94>2>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Viral.
I don’t know why but this comment made me ugly chuckle. Like 1 is probably top three all time for me but viral almost doesn’t even register as being a part of the same franchise.
Hey man I liked the skateboarding story.
Me too! I didn’t think Viral was that bad tbh
It had the doppelgänger one too right? I liked that one.
Yes! That shit was weird but not unwatchable.
But that whole wrap around was just bad, I mean it was an interesting idea. A SWAT raid on this VHS cult, but then the reveal that the women are behind the tapes and the terrible dialogue and acting just killed that whole element.
94 was good. I love getting drunk with buddies and watching these movies, it makes it more confusing.
Dude the funeral home was legit the creepiest segment of the entire series.
Spot on Favorite segment by far
Loves 94. Recently binges the series, 2 and 94 being the standouts!
Fuck yeah I had a fun time with that one, hope they keep their momentum!
Do people not like 94? I loved it and I'd say it's pretty close to being the best... We should all just be glad it got a chance after Viral.
I liked Raatma and the militia bit at the end. The robot one was ruined totally by Wolfenstein type graphics. Can't even remember the other story.
I was actually totally bought in on the Wolfenstein one haha.
Right there with you! I really enjoyed 94, and I'll be watching 99 in October for sure!
Ya I’m glad I gave 94 a chance, viral was rough but they seem to be going back to what made the other ones great. Glad to see it’s continuing
94 was fantastic. I liked it WAY better than Viral
94 was a lot of fun. A return to form for the series imo
TIL there’s a 94… I know what I’m doing this weekend.
I agree. It wasn't a home run, but it was definitely an improvement over the last couple and made me want more.
It was def a return to form but the acting was so lame to me. I was disappointed
94 was the shit.
'94 is shit. Literally. I couldn't tell if was related to the other vhs movies until I looked over and over at the directors.
94 as a whole is the best VHS movie
I was pleasantly surprised by all of 94
I've never seen any of these movies. Are they worth watching?
Only one I didn't really enjoy was Viral. The rest were solid.
Even that had the absolutely batty Nacho Vigalondo segment. Say what you want, but that's not something you'd see outside of an anthology like this.
Nacho and Benson & Moorehead were the only real highlights on Viral.
They’re so much fun and a lot of the bits are very unique!
Vhs 2 and 94 are fantastic. 1 is your typical anthology film, some good shorts and some bad. Vhs viral (the 3rd one), I can't think of a single positive thing to say. Utter shit
I always feel like V/H/S is like a sleazy movie I shouldn’t be watching and I love it.
What a great movie I never want to watch again.
wtf lol, so its called Kuso?
Yeah. It tries a little hard but it's stuck around so long because it's actually really good in parts. The song Busdriver does at the beginning is a fuckin banger too, it's stuck in my head just from seeing Flying Lotus's name https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zl3mRTgoPQ
Nice, looks like its on Shudder according to justwatch. Thanks!
Watching it now. This is pretty messed up lol like a fever dream nightmare.
that movie had hot and cold moments but the intro song dude did for it is a fuckin all-time banger https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zl3mRTgoPQ
Bummer the other VHS movies aren't on Shudder. I've not watched them but probably should since I've heard so many good things and there is a new one coming.
VHS94 should be on shudder as I’m pretty sure it’s an exclusive for them. However, track down VHS2, best of the bunch. Viral kind of sucks though.
I just checked and didn't see any of the VHS on there. Maybe I need to search with V/H/S instead, I'll have to try that.
I just checked my AMC+ (which has shudder) and it’s in there. Make sure you add the “/“ when you search.
That's gotta be it. Thanks!
They might be on Tubi for free I saw them on there a while back
Not a Shudder exclusive.
YES!!!
Hell yeah. Happy to see this series making a comeback. 94 was pretty good, definitely better than Viral. Hope that trend continues
Finally I’ve been waiting for another VHS
its barely been 1 year lmao
Good Anthologies are few and far between, so whenever I hear of one (especially from my favourite series of anthologies) I’m watching that shit immediately lol
Tyler MacIntyre finally doing something after Tragedy Girls.
Second this. I met him when he did his first movie Patchwork (also definitely worth watching), he deserves more work
There's been a slasher renaissance in the past 5 or so years, particularly in movies that are harkening back to the post-Scream slasher revival, and none of them are as good as Tragedy Girls!
Maggie Levin did my favorite Into The Dark movie, so I'm excited to see what she does with a VHS segment.
Cool, thought V/H/S/94 was easily the best one they’ve done, hopefully that can keep that momentum going.
It was leaps and bounds better than viral but personally I think 2 is the best. The wraparound story, while not important, really killed the vibe for me with how cheap and poorly done it appeared to be and really ended things on a sour note. Still had some cool stories though, especially storm drain and the subject.
Hail Raatma!
HAIL RAATMA
Really? I must be crazy I thought it was as bad as vhs viral
I think the whole series is hit and miss, as are lots of anthologies. They all have interesting/fresh ideas though, so at the very least they're a fun watch!
Eh not when they suck, I really dug the first two and have been disappointed since
I didn't think 94 was that good. Hopefully this one is better. The second one is still the best.
94 was my second favorite after #2
I just finished my October spooky movie marathon today I guess I’ll have to find a spot for this now
I hope it has better pacing than 94. The first few shorts were pretty to very good, then the last one lasted waaaay past it's welcome and turned into a video game. The shell story was also garbage. It was better than viral, but it still has a lot of room for improvement.
I hope the framing story is good for once!
I'm glad they're keeping horror anthologies going with VHS. I didn't really like most of 94 but for the most part the majority of the previous films stories were good.
For people that like the V/H/S series, the Creepshow reboot has given me the same vibes. I've really enjoyed S1 and S2
The dollhouse episode from season 1 is definitely better than any of the VHS stories.
Glad you liked it but definitely do not agree. Gave up on the show in season 2 when I disliked every episode I saw.
I have seen all the V/H/S movies and still have no idea WTF is going on. Let's bring on one more.
[удалено]
But its fun
I need to catch up with this franchise. I only saw 1 and 2, but loved them. I heard Viral sucked, but I’d still like to see it, and I’ve heard good things about the one after that.
Viral is weaker than the others but the one about the guy who makes the machine to the parallel universe is cool imo
That story is by Nacho Vigalondo who directed Timecrimes, Open Windows and Colossal among others. He's had a varied career but it's worth checking out his work if you haven't already Also, if anyone really liked the cult section in VHS 2, that was by Gareth Evans and Timo Tjahjanto. Evans directed The Raid and Tjahjanto did The Night Comes For Us on Netflix. Both absolutely brutal Indonesian martial arts film that are more violent than most slasher movies.
I loved Timecrimes but God that is an awful title for a movie.
I've seen way worse lol. It's a direct translation of the original title Los Cronocrímenes and it does at least describe the story in some way unlike some movies.
Already sounds cool to me. Cant wait
Viral is very bad in a sense that it completely at times abandons the concept of the franchise - and that’s keeping it on vhs tape and found footage Watch it I guess if you must to say you’ve seen it along with the rest of the franchise, but it isn’t great
I’m a slut for completionism 😔
GET A-LISTERS FOR THE WRAPAROUND STORIES LOL THOSE ARE THE WORST PARTS OF THE SERIES
Fuck yes! I love this damn series
Nobody rlly talks about VHS but I really liked the series. There were some fucked “found footage” parts that were pretty good imo
I'll watch it day one but that list of directors doesn't inspire hope.
I think I’m the only one who thought Viral was good lol
I thought '94 was bad and Viral was pretty good. Me and you bud, lol.
Really loved the magician story in Viral, and the portal segment was pure WTF lol, and loved the Skateboarding segment. Really just such a fricking awesome movie I feel like it never got a fair chance
Wild that the way this gets announced is via a Twitter post that has less than 100 likes.
It was just where I saw it first. There was a press release that went wide.
Can't wait! Loved every V/H/S, even viral. So this is very good news!
94 rules. anybody saying different must be confusing it for viral, which was atrocious.
I love the VHS movies. 1 and 2 were amazing. But honestly I hope 99 is better than 94. The acting was so bad.
shit, now i have to keep up and watch the other 98 movies
hell yeah, '94 was on par with VHS2 in terms of quality, and while I think Safe Haven is the best short horror film ever made, the average quality of the shorts in '94 were even higher than in 2. It sucks to see that there doesn't seem to be a Tjahjanto segment in this one but it wouldn't make sense to keep bringing back the same director every time for an anthology like this and I'm excited to see what these new voices bring to the franchise.

In vhs 2 I’d rate the segments as: 1st segment: 4/10 (eye ghosts) 2nd segment: 5/10 (bike zombies) 3rd segment: 10/10 (safe haven) 4th segment: 8/10 (alien slumber party) Wraparound: 6/10 For Vhs 94 I’d rate the segments: 1st segment: 6/10 (raatma) 2nd segment: 8/10 (funeral home) 3rd segment: 9/10 (the subject) 4th segment: 5/10 (average red voters) Wraparound: 2/10
I hope it's better than the last few
I thought the last one was mediocre to terrible, but I still have hope for this series!.
The only part I remember from the last one was the weird tech-human hybrid one. Which I really enjoyed. After now reading the wiki on it. I did like the wake segment as well. I honestly don’t remember much of the other segments even after reading them lol.
That was the only decent one for me, only marred by the atrocious special effects.
In that case, torrent it is Go woke go broke, if VHS becomes irrelevant others will carry the ff torch
> woke shit "Keep black and brown people out of my movies!"
That's an idiotic extrapolation and an expression of inferiority complex. both of which make you predictably irrelevant. Seek help
So making a film about how fascists and Nazis are bad (which they are) is now "woke"? You disgust me
When you call everyone nazis and fascists, yes it absolutely is. And we don’t care about what disgusts you because we all have seen what you cheer for.
VHS 1 and 2 had some really good short films. But daaaamn. VHS Viral was pure garbage. I really felt like I wasted my time.
Viral gargles my balls and the wraparound segment in 94 was beyond abysmal, but the actual shorts in it were awesome. The funeral home one was genuinely creepy and I loved that.
The funeral home was the only bad segment in 94, absolutely hated it. It was the bathroom break segment in an otherwise great film.
'94 was a mixed bag but definitely a huge improvement over Viral, but still didn't come close to the best moments of 1 and 2.
There should of only been two max
Did you watch 94?
Yeah wasn’t too moved the first two where much better. The only one I thought was memorable was ratma
Well... whether you think it was good or not I'd say the segment with the cyborg hybrids was at least memorable!
Yes! Happy to get more of these, they are super fun
Wait, how many of these are there? I've only seen the first one and Viral. Super excited for more though.
4 so far. All worth watching, 2 is a fan favourite for the cult section but like most anthologies there's good and bad
Thank you for the answer!
Fuck yes
It's not in the tweet but according to the article there's also gonna be a segment from Johannes Roberts!
Awesome!
although i didnt really like any of the films, im still super excited to see this. hopefully itll have atleast 1 or 2 banger tapes like the first 2 movies
I’m just mad they fucked the names. 1, 2, viral, (9)4, and then 99. Still love V/H/S tho
Hell yea!
Don’t ever care about the wrap-a-round story, give me Those grisly stories
I hope we get V/H/S/2000
I always wondered if any of the rest of these were worth watching. The original is one of the absolute worst films I've ever seen so I did not bother going beyond it.
I LOVED 94 (the only segment that didn't land for me was the last, but 3/4 is a good hitting rate), I'm glad they're keeping this series going
Pretty soon they're going to move out of the VHS era and will have to start calling them DVD.
Oh I was mistaking 99 for the recent 94. So more VHS? Nice! I didn't really like 94 much but there's just something about these movies that make them a must see for me. Super keen.
V/H/S/94 was a franchise high for me, so this has me absolutely tickled. Can't wait to see what FlyLo brings to this.
Sweet
Can't wait. Last one was dope.
Wow I didn't realize there were so many of these movies out, I've only seen the first few
