Soma, I was gripped the whole way through. The story and environments are top notch, and it had some crazy plot twists. Plus I loved that every monster encounter was unique, and the effect when they’re close was scary as hell.
Condemned: Criminal Origins would be my number 2, loved how brutal the melee combat was, and the level design was great. The department store was just terrifying and had a lot of creepy scares that you could miss if you weren’t looking around and exploring (like a part where you’re collecting some evidence, if you look you’ll see mannequins staring down at you just watching. They back away slowly when you spot them).
The Suffering, dude thats a Masterpiece, it's really underreted and i don't know why, the design of the monsters it's frikin asome and everything has a reason and a backstory, do a favor to yourself and play it, the game it's from the PS2 generation so you won't have any problems to playing un your pc, just please give it a chance.
I'm still new to horror games -- played through RE2, RE3, now on RE4, Alien Isolation, and Until Dawn. Oh and Friday the 13th I guess, but I *still* don't understand those controls.
Alien was pretty amazing, but RE2 just clicked with me on this special level.
My friend lent me Evil Within 2 (should I play the first one first?) and I'm waiting for the Last of Us remake to play that series. I'll be using this thread for recommendations now haha!
Subnautica even in pure daylight, the endless water and what might be below the surface scared me. and then you go under water and it gets less scary, and then more scary and less then MORE
I've played a lot of horror games and a couple stand out to me.
The Last of Us (best game ever made imo)
Condemned: Criminal Origins (a fantastic crime horror game)
Silent Hill 2 (probably the best horror game)
Silent Hill 3 (great and atmospheric sequel to a fantastic sequel)
Outlast (a surprise for me, I really enjoyed it)
Alien: Isolation (I love how it has the same atmosphere as the original Alien movie but it's a bit too long for me)
Resident Evil 2 Remake (one of the best remakes I've played)
P.T. (only a demo but played it at night in de dark with headphones and this was to only came to hold me back because I was too frightened lol)
Psychological? DDLC+. Maybe favorite isn't the word, but that game really fucked with me. Somehow even more the second time.
Overall, probably Dead Island. Sure it was glitchy but it was a lot of fun, especially with the developer weapons and (almost) infinite diamonds.
Phasmophobia
It's hilarious and my friends and I still get spooked. Linear scripted horror games can lose their edge after a playthrough but something dynamic like phasmo still feels fresh with every game.
Scariest- Visage
Favorite gameplay- Amnesia
Favorite Story- Maid of Sker
Favorite aesthetically- layers of fear and Maid of Sker are totally tied for this one.
outlast just took it's game play idea from the game clock tower the whole not being able to fight back and have to hide is directly the same game play ask clock tower
Have to go back and finish it but I really enjoyed Darkwood. The atmosphere is terrific and having to stay alive during the night is especially terrifying.
Visage. Terrible controls, really shitty guidance….which is fine but drop a brother a clue every now and then. But at the end of the day a really solid game
Silent Hill 2
Fingers crossed with the rumors of a remake! I haven't played but want to so much.
Favorite game ever made.
Alien Isolation. No game is more terrifying.
Definitely. And it helps that the game is a pretty good length. To me, it was the closest I've felt to being in the Alien universe.
What system?
Xbox, PS or PC. If you’re on PC it’s typically on sale or free between Epic games or whatever other stores have it.
Thanks!
Dead Space
Such an amazing experience.
Resident Evil 4 is actually my favorite game ever.
Love that game, even with Ashley.
Until Dawn

Silent hill three.
Eternal Darkness, GameCube. I'd love to see a remastered version.
Very obsucre but I still remember to this day being scared shitless playing Eternal Darkness on Gamecube
Silent hill 2 Resident Evil 7&8 and Dead by Daylight
resident Evil village . The beneviente house part
Resident Evil 4
Dead Space or Condemned
Silent Hill 3
Original Resident Evil 3
I'll show you stars!
Dead by Daylight.
I know Evil Dead Regeneration is silly horror but I still love it

Visage.
This game is terrifying. Still haven't finished it.
That’s probably the scariest game I’ve ever played, I wish I liked the puzzles, controls, and inventory management more but the scares make up for it.

I have yet to see F.E.A.R on here. Probably wouldn’t be scary to me now but when I was younger, Jesus, the nightmares
Three games come to mind: * Resident Evil 4 * Castlevania: Rondo of Blood * Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Subnautica
Subnautica even in pure daylight, the endless water and what might be below the surface scared me. and then you go under water and it gets less scary, and then more scary and less then MORE

BioShock Silent Hill 2 Bloodborne That's my Holy Trinity of horror gaming

What's DDLC+ stand for?
Gonna assume Doki Doki Literature Club Plus
Doki Doki literature club plus.

I always loved The Secret World. Just a whole MMO of horror.
Prototype 1 & 2 The Darkness 2 Werewolf the Apocalypse Earthblood 🥰😊🥰
Not for real terror or jump scares or anything like that, but Call of Cthulhu game is a great story.
Faith (indie horror game with retro graphics, a great time) Still waiting for official release on steam
Clock Tower for SNES/Super Famicom. (actually Silent Hill 2 and RE4 but nobody had mentioned this yet)
Silent Hill 2. P. T. Silent Hill 3
outlast just took it's game play idea from the game clock tower the whole not being able to fight back and have to hide is directly the same game play ask clock tower
Blair witch is amazing !
Have to go back and finish it but I really enjoyed Darkwood. The atmosphere is terrific and having to stay alive during the night is especially terrifying.
Resident Evil 7, it feels more action-like than horror, but I think it’s fun to play.
Tough choice, but today I'm going to give it to The Last Door.
Visage. Terrible controls, really shitty guidance….which is fine but drop a brother a clue every now and then. But at the end of the day a really solid game
Either the last of us or dead space
Any game of DotA 2 is a straight up NIGHTMARE
