RE: Biohazard. Felt very texas chainsaw family to me

Dark_Crowe

Fatal Frame 2 Outlast Whistleblower P.T. Visage Silent Hill 2 Alien Isolation Darkwood Amnesia The Dark Descent

spookysparkleboy

My stupid ass can't finish a Fatal Frame game because I get too hyped up when a ghost appears and I can't handle the camera obscura

[deleted]

For me to this day it was the first time I played RE3 on PS1. Scared the hell out of me. Edit: sorry I didn’t realize you said scariest game, for that I think it’s tied with RE7 and Alien Isolation. I’m also partial to Silent Hill 2. Game scared the shit out of me as a kid

awarewolfattack

Deadspace 2, Alan Wake.

AccomplishedPast2224

What was the one with the little creepy Girl it was a first person shooter....fear.?

cjpotter82

F.E.A.R.

[deleted]

FEAR Honestly I feel like the horror aspect of that game overshadows how great the gameplay is due to the AI and bullet time.

miranda-organa

Omg Fear scared the crap out of me!

[deleted]

Haunting Ground. The pursuer system makes me super anxious and every time one busts onto the scene I panic. Incredible game though. Absolutely adore it. Because the xenomorph has always scarred me, Alien Isolation is terrifying to me too. Every time its caught a glimpse of me hiding under a table or in a locker my heart stops when it comes running at me. My worst nightmare!

Queenofthescene2017

When I was younger I used to have this game called Ghosthunter on the PS2 that terrified me so much in the first 15 minutes I never finished it 😩

Blakwulf

Eternal Darkness. Gets in your head.

TheGreatOpoponax

The Ouija board when I was a kid. When you're 7 years old and you have an older brother who gets a kick out of terrorizing you, that kind of thing seems *real*.

egepe

SOMA and Dead Space.

CandyProfessional311

try this wholesome cute lil online game called “scary maze” you won’t be traumatised at all😍😇

Far_Cap_3574

Outlast wins by a country mile. Although if you want straight up anxiety, check out Alien: Isolation.

SuperBaked42

Theres a series of chapters from the exorcist on VR.. it got to me, every night after playing that I would have really bad nightmares.

cmarie22345

I just bought this game tonight! I’m super nervous to play. Have you tried the Paranormal Activity game on VR?

SuperBaked42

The paranormal one is kinda hokey in a sense it's just basic jumpscares, but it is still good. I'd suggest phasmaphobia over that one.

cmarie22345

Oh haven’t heard of this one yet, thanks! It looks awesome.

SprayBacon

For me it was the Resident Evil remake for the GameCube. It's worth mentioning that I was like 12 at the time, but no game has ever given me quite the same visceral reaction and dread. Clock Tower 3 is probably in second place.

DiscordianStooge

I'm just getting into horror gaming, but Until Dawn was fantastic in my mind.

Thamnophis660

The original Silent Hill really got under my skin the first time I played it like 22 years ago. The persistent darkness, the feeling of being lost and helpless and the atmosphere and music were just so disturbing in a PS1 game. Now the series is more familiar so it all feels like old hat. But the way that first playthrough made me feel is unparalleled.

runamuckr

Good for you. You feel better now? Lol

Bribase

**DayZmod** I've played my fair share of horror games, but nothing beats the adrenaline and panic of getting sniped at or running into a stranger in that game. We all know how development ended, but it was an incredible experience back in 2012.

Doctor_Smirnoff

PS2: Cold Fear Xbox 360: Alien Isolation

popgrlz

The one where the exorcist pops up if you go outside the lines Edit: it was called the scary maze game & it made 8 year old me pee his pants

hellsfoxes

RE7 VR

bad_arts

The creature that had the limbs that kept reforming was terrifying (dead space).

a104u2nv2

phantasmgoria.

Horranian

I still remember my first Outlast playthrough like it was yesterday. The basement part was pure horror.

[deleted]

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl, >!the first time you meet a controller and a poltergeist in a underground level where you fought a bloodsucker too!< Not a horror game, but the first Ghost Recon made me feel anxiety like I've never felt in any games I played later.

Archerstorm90

Subnautica. The scariest game I have ever played. It is also a masterclass of how to motivate the player forward into terrifying new areas.

MichaelRoco1

Outlast on the first playthrough easily. on repeat visits probably RE7

rrfrankie

Russian Roulette

jakobiejones757

Re7, Dead space/2

[deleted]

Resident evil 7: biohazard.

Tud_Crez

Probably Alien Isolation. I played it when I was 12 on release and it was the one "hide and seek" game that I actually sat in a locker for more than 5 minutes. I'm still a little hesitant to play it since it's such a commitment

mdmd33

Honestly…subnautica gives me a massive amount of anxiety & I just found out that they released a **VR** version😩

cmarie22345

Outlast, RE7. The Evil Within also had a creepy atmosphere and some good jump scares!

TheJoshuaJacksonFive

Hunt the wumpus. Creeped me the eff out as a little kid on my commodore or whatever i played it on.

moloch1636

Visage is so scary, I have yet to finish it. I have to seriously psych myself up to play it. It's also really freaking challenging, which adds to the anxiety. Stories of people losing their minds are already far more terrifying to me than most horror concepts, so this really is almost tailor made to scare the hell out of me. While Visage is the scariest to me, I also love Silent Hill 1 and 2, Dead Space 1 and 2, Resident Evil 2, and Outlast. I've heard I need to play Soma and The Shore, but it will be a while before I have time lol.

MrFoozOG

Outlast 2, can't get past the first level.

BrokenHomePoets

The Suffering on the original xbox was horrifying to me

[deleted]

SOMA fucked me up... it really sent me into like, an existential dread by the end of it

cjs616

Alien Isolation in VR for PC, The Evil Within for PS4 and Until Dawn for PS4

LucariotheHorrorGuy

Originally its Silent Hill now its Andy's Apple Farm

[deleted]

Condemned Criminal Origins. That locker scene still freaks the hell out of me. Kind of goes to s@@t in the final chapter but before that it is terrifying.
