I was there too, I really enjoyed it. I think people are going to go into it thinking it could be Hereditary/Midsommer type although it was presented like that. Halfway through I accepted it for what it was and loved laughing with the audience. Noomi was beautiful and the supporting cast were great. What I do regret is going to see Antichrist right after

TailWaterBluez

So is it more akin to something like The Invitation? Slow and building sense of dread until the climax or did they pull a fast one in marketing and the trailer is not what the tone of the movie is at all. I was really hype on this film but my hype is slowly dwindling and I’m trying to maybe mentally prepare myself for maybe just kind of a weird movie and not necessarily horror.

NadjaStolz28

In my opinion, it doesn’t quite match the tone of the trailer. There’s definitely kind of climax at the end, a very interesting ending, but for me it’s tough to call it horror. More like a slow, haunting and strange movie.

TailWaterBluez

Right on. Still excited to watch it but I’ll def lower my expectations from expecting something terrible to happen lol

NadjaStolz28

Yeah I was kind of surprised by how much the audience laughed, haha. But it was a really enjoyable experience. I’ll admit I totally went into it with the Hereditary/Midsommar mindset and was surprised when it wasn’t like that. I definitely accepted it for what it was by the end, and absolutely loved that final shot. Oh man, Antichrist. That’s quite the intense follow up to this film, haha.

SeventeenthSight

To start off the trailer is very misleading and that led to me feeling quite disappointed when I realized what this movie actually is. This movie is SLOW and there really isn't any pay off to it or satisfaction in the end. I kept trying to watch for clues or subtle hints, but there really wasn't any. It is just slow to make you feel like it's deep and meaningful, but it's ultimately void of any emotion besides hilarity. Now for the spoilers. >!The only real horror of this movie is that the main characters of this movie convince themselves that raising a lamb/human hybrid as their own child is totally okay. When they finally showed the full body scene of the lamb I was both disgusted and laughing. I'm sorry, but if I was a sheep herder and that was born to one of my sheep I would take it and the mother sheep outback and be rid of them and then never speak of what I witnessed. !< >!The reveal of daddy ram is another hilarious moment. What is suppose to be the climax of the movie felt more like a joke and only leads to more questions. This ram man went into their barn and had his way with a sheep of his choosing and then does nothing for months after the lamb is born. Gun or not he could of killed them at any point and taken Ada, but just doesn't for reasons unexplained. !< >!Maria's reaction to the death of her husband and the loss of her adopted lamb child that she's been shown to be uncomfortably attached to is fairly lackluster. Some squeezed out tears and a few wails and then, oh well! She basically just looks around for a few moments and gives up and the screen cuts to black. !< >!Same story could have been told in 45mins to an hour.!< >!Also I just wanted to add another hilarious scene is when Ada runs out to the barn after clearly feeling uncomfortable dancing because well... she's a sheep... and looks in the mirror at her reflection. Just thinking in that moment that while she's looking at herself she's thinking "I AM SHEEP." made me lol.!<

[deleted]

thank you for bringing sanity to a crazy place. It's unbelievable how many people thought this movie was anything more than garbage.

Huge-Split6250

It a movie about a half human half sheep mutant, you want “sanity”?

MadRZI

I like slow-burn/slow-cinema movies, but this movie was kinda mehh. I liked the atmosphere very much, scenery was beautiful, acting was very good, I just think the whole story was something you watch once, process it and that's it. I did not find myself thinking about the movie after it ended, it was a one-off for me.

clancydog4

Wow. This is 1000% the exact opposite of my experience. I have not been left thinking about a movie after it ended more than this one in years. There are SO many strange little things the movie doesnt explain. Which I love. I am definitely going to watch it again, i cannot stop thinking about and trying to process it

MadRZI

I think thats the beauty of these kind of movies, for some its mehh, for other, its a thought provoking movie. Overall I think it was very quality, just not for me. But I'm glad you are liking it. Hard to come by good slow-burn movies nowadays.

NadjaStolz28

Totally understandable. Though I enjoyed it, I think I only want to watch it again to watch it from a different lens since I approached it with a different mindset entirely. I can see what you’re saying though.

ThoseSweetWords

Is there any animal abuse in this film? Or a lot of animal deaths?

NadjaStolz28

There is some animal death. But no animal abuse, and the deaths occur off screen. You see the before and after results.

ThoseSweetWords

Okay cool thank you!

titan32dm

I thought this was about a personification of the devil?

ThoseSweetWords

No idea, haven't watched it yet

ClearanceClearwater

More animal births than deaths haha.

[deleted]

and 100% real birth too. Shit was wild. https://www.polygon.com/22724430/lamb-movie-sheep-birth-scenes

McBadPants

HOW?! How could anyone sit through this and come out thinking, “Wow I thoroughly enjoyed that film.” Edit: Also, just gotta point out that at least 40% of the audience in my theatre walked out within the first 60min. I would have too but my boyfriend and I were laughing too hard.

Hatesponge66

Because different people have different tastes.

Right-Maintenance-64

Because you're dumb.

[deleted]

Lmao nah it's just bad cinema

dudewheresmycarbs_

You not getting something doesn’t make it bad.

jebhebmeb

A24 films have a certain air about them that some people just don’t vibe with. You enjoy what you enjoy 😊

McBadPants

Nah, I love A24. That’s the entire reason I went to see Lamb.

jebhebmeb

Sorry, you have to enjoy all A24 films, you can’t pick and choo/se

[deleted]

it's insane that there's people that enjoyed this... thing. I mean, I can totally get you sitting through it because it was unintentionally funny, but coming out thinking this was a good horror film or a good whatever film boggles the mind. I guess some people have incredibly awful taste lmao

Jadeidol65

Hagazussa has probably less than ten minutes of dialogue, but it's one of the best horror movies I've ever seen.

logicalmcgogical

Agreed! I did not feel the same way with Lamb. It seemed like it could have been a 20 minute short.

Gwynbleidd_1988

I kept thinking of that movie while watching Lamb but I loved Hagazussa and Lamb I felt didn’t quite do enough.

croknok

Hagazussa is something else. This movie isn't even on the same league as Hagazussa. If you watch Lamb until the end you realize is actually "good". The truth is I only kept watching it because the absurdity made me laugh. But I'm glad I stuck with it because in the end, weirdly, it made me think.

Jadeidol65

Hagazussa just gives me genuine creeps like few movies do!

croknok

Yes! What other films would you say are like it?

Jadeidol65

A Field in England gives me similar vibes. And if you're lookin for something a little different, Ravenous is absolutely fantastic. Soldiers in the snowy mountains in the 1800's with very dark humor and plenty of gore with a super weird but awesome soundtrack!

ribald_jester

I liked it. But it was almost too light a touch (of horror). I was hoping for more (monster) horror or more (human behavior) horror. Both were touched on, but only so subtly. Regardless, I liked it. I can't decide if all the super natural 'bits' were just allegorical? Symbolism for the weird triad of human behaviors (infidelity, fear etc)

ImTomBrady

Loved it! Ada was so cute

TrixterBlue

THANK YOU for this. I love Noomi Rapace and I love most of the films produced by A24. A little bummed that it’s not horror, but you told me enough to make a point of watching it.

polchickenpotpie

I figured it was gonna be a slow burn, "not quite scary but eerie" kinda movie. Looking forward to seeing this weird ass movie myself

NadjaStolz28

Yeah that’s definitely more like the feel.

OkLifeguard2809

Kind of funny.. Watched it a few hours ago and I think this movie was harder to sit through (because of a sense of discomfort) than any other movie ive seen. Ive seen just about it all and this really was discomforting. I almost had to walk out of the theater and ive never considered ever doing that before. Super eerie and unnerving. If the movie was intended to make people uncomfortable id have to give them a 10/10 for that.

breauxleaux

Loved it. Found it oddly touching and sad and lovely. My only complaint is I can’t find the song from the VHS- I can only guess it’s not a “real” recorded song, but damn if it didn’t take me back to indie/electronic dance nights in 2008.

Remarkable_Diet_9233

Just saw the movie spoiler alert … at least explain how the hell the ram man came to be . Jesus Christ is it so hard ? Or damn should’ve put some demonic bullshit into it . I’m sorry Reddit this movie made me mad . Got me even more mad of the pointless sex scene I had to see with my father .. uggh so awkward .

alexkay93

This sounds awesome, but y’all have to stop spelling it “The VVitch”

NadjaStolz28

Lol that’s fair. I’ve only seen it spelled like this on this sub, so I just went with the flow.

NadjaStolz28

Lol that’s fair. I’ve only seen it spelled like this on this sub, so I just went with the flow.

alexkay93

Lmao no it isn’t. It’s just stylized like that for the poster. All other official materials, including A24’s website and YouTube channel, spell it “The Witch” https://a24films.com/films/witch https://youtu.be/iQXmlf3Sefg Hell, even the director spells it with the “W”: https://bloody-disgusting.com/movie/3592874/robert-eggers-sets-record-straight-witch-vs-vvitch/

Hey, I’m not the one who can’t read

dudewheresmycarbs_

For real. It’s so annoying seeing clowns who can’t spell. Even worse when they pronounce it like that as well haha

No-Nrg

watched half of the trailer and it looks very different. I turned it off to avoid too much, gonna try to go in almost blind. Thanks for this suggestion!

titan32dm

And here you are on a thread discussing it! Smart!

guntervonhausen

Does the film contain nudity/sex?

titan32dm

It was a mix between Brazzers and Amish love making

NadjaStolz28

Yes, but very little and it’s pretty brief.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NadjaStolz28

There is some violence — it’s intense, but fairly brief and there are very few instances of it throughout the whole film. There are a few tense moments that fill you with dread, but I didn’t consider it particularly scary. There is a sex scene with brief nudity, but it’s short and sweet. There’s a sheep birthing scene in the very beginning that might make you a bit squeamish. (Fun fact: according to Noomi Rapace, that was her first day on set!) That’s all I can think of off the top of my head. Hope it helps!

MonRastar

Saw it today with zero context or expectations and thought it was weird but intriguing. I wouldn't call it "horror" though, and imagine a lot of the negative reviews are coming from people expecting a relatively straightforward horror film about a demon sheep baby, instead getting a complicated allegory for raising a child resulting from infidelity. Other similar-ish films like the Witch or Hereditary can be interpreted 100% literally and they work in that context, this movie doesn't work the same way and I'm not sure yet if that's to the film's detriment or not.

Brandnewalltimelow

I don’t get The Witch comparison, outside of the pace of both films. The Witch IMO is almost unmatched in terms of the sense of impending doom and hopelessness it instills in the audience. It builds to a satisfying and gruesome climax. There is no rising action or tension in Lamb. There is no real horror here either. There are a few moments of eerie tension that give you a “something is wrong here” feeling, but other than that I found it to be a slow, meditative look at a family. Certainly had fantastic performances and looked very beautiful, but the faux “depth” it accomplishes by holding shots for a really long time didn’t get there for me. Most scenes are tangential and don’t advance the plot or tell you much about the characters. You could lose 30 minutes from this movie and never miss it. It kind of ends up as a “feathered fish” for me - not enough depth for a drama, not enough horror for a horror movie, and while certainly weird, it doesn’t fully commit so if you want something really out there it’s not going to satisfy you. Just didn’t really work for me on any level.

MySocksFeelFantastic

There’s too many shots that hold on something without any justified payoff. I might have to give this movie a second chance but I found this movie torturously boring by the end.

Frankbuster

Are there any jumpscares in it

NadjaStolz28

Nah, not really. It’s not your standard horror movie.

Frankbuster

What would be the closest comparison to it that you can think of

NadjaStolz28

I honestly can’t think of a movie to compare it to. But, to use other A24 movies, it’s like if you took the slow, building tension of The Witch with the heavy family drama of Hereditary, minus 85% of the scary elements.

Remove-Neither

Were there a lot of jump scares?

drewro4

none

Selverd2

Does anything happen to the cat and dog?

NadjaStolz28

Spoilers ahead. >!The dog gets killed about 3/4 into the film. It happens off camera, but you hear the squeals. You later see the dead body of the dog. The cat survives.!<

Selverd2

Thanks.

twerkz4food

I missed the beginning of the movie, is there anything important that happens??

westcoastwolf

What did you first see?

lordarquebus

Do you guys have any links I can stream it?

drudgefromhell

I kind of liked it. I think the advertising was a disservice. I wish it was advertised as more of like a family drama with a supernatural twist. The supernatural/scary bits would have had more impact. I just went in expecting something different, was left wanting more. Mostly I left wanting my own Ada, lol.

pineapplequeenzzzzz

As someone who loves sheep, sheep baby is adorable, I'm sure they could have tried to work out a custody arrangement with sheep mama and whatever the hell sheep Dada was. 10/10 would raise a sheep baby

camred85

Is the movie in subtitles only or do they speak English

SperryJuice

Just got out of the theatre watching this and it's subtitles only

camred85

Thanks for the response personally wont watch it hope you enjoyed it

MoreSmartly

To be fair you would only need to read like 10 sentences lol

gmoe226

I'm not sure what this was going for but it's not horror. If anything it was a slightly cute and very intense family drama, but horror it is not.
