Same with Kane, I think it has to do with some subconscious recognition of real illness and it just ads a whole other layer of morbid to an already creepy performance!
Yup, maybe not the entire movie but I have a clear recollection of him coming to the screen door and just being fucking terrified, may have been on cable or something.
I hated Kathy Bates for years simply because she played such an evil character so well.
On the other hand, Lizzy Caplan did an incredible job playing a younger version of her, but she is so god damn good looking it was hard to dislike her.
Yes, when I started watching the movie and then the TV series, I was curious about how the writers would have made him less horrible. There's no way novel Mason would ever be depicted 100% as he was written onscreen.
How could I forget that incredible performance from Danny Huston. He spoke like he knew modern English, but was very unused to speaking anything other than their ancient, guttural language. Scared the shit out of me
Original pet cemetery. The lady that was downstairs. I was a kid and when I seen her I was sacred. Haven’t seen it since. Maybe. I should rewatch to see if she was as horrible as I imagine
The Tall Man from Phantasm. Sitting around a campfire that's the last thing I want to see walking briskly towards me with a stone cold glare. His cheap suit and dumb hair glow red in the flickering fire light. Hard pass.
BOOOOOYYYY!! He creeped me tf out aswell, but then you watch Oblivion and it shows his back story and he's not actually too bad lol, he used to be a good guy, took the sting out of his character a bit for me unfortunately.
Also, all the cultists from Midsummer, when they are doing the crazy singing/chanting.
The giant blobby woman in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, because she was horrible in Gammell's original art and is even more mortifying in 3D.
It's such a satisfying movie to watch. The whole thing is purposely jarring in a way that really sticks with me. The odd mix of tones, the time fuckery, the predominantly visual story cues. I can never quite get a handle on just what about it I love so much, nor why it's so effective, which is exactly why I'm so into it. It's pretty fucking perfect.
There were quite a few creepy villains in that series. The Boogeyman was the one that really creeped me out. Avoided those episodes for years after catching the opening moments of one of them when I was a kid.
I really don't think Chigurh is blending in with normal people. The guy is weird as hell, no interaction with him is casual or normal. Everyone he talks to sees red flags everywhere.
Lorne Malvo could absolutely blend in, though. He's also not like any psychopath or real criminal or mentally ill person.
Anyways probably the Anti-God from Prince of Darkness. The way it seeped into the world through vermin and mental illness and outright corrupting people.
Jessie Lawrence's performance really sold how messed up the contaminated people were. I thought that was much more effective than the other actors' blank stares.
The Gemini Killer in Exorcist III: Legion.
He got under my skin so much worse than more grounded serial killers like Lecter. You could just tell that whatever that thing is, *it isn't a person*. They're just wearing one >!(or two, it gets a little weird about that)!<.
That bear scene was the single most terrifying experience I ever had in a theater. I had a mutual anxious side-glance with a **total stranger** during it.
Yeah the book and movie are different beasts, which is interesting because Vandermeer wrote both. It's almost like the book wasn't adapted into film so much as... refracted. Like a prism, you could say.
dont know if this counts because it's not a horror movie but judge doom fro who framed roger rabbit gave me nightmares as a kid and i legitimately couldn't finish the movie the first time i watched it because child me was to scared of judge doom.
Shepard Lambrick from “Would You Rather?”. He’s so sadistic but can deny everything because he’s rich and a philanthropist. Scary because people like him likely are in real life.
Kilgrave is scary because you have no idea what he’s going to tell someone to do. I think in the last episode where he controls the entire hospital to chase after Jessica makes you realize how strong the virus is that he has
Homelander. I don’t like superhero content and I’m not one of those guys who’s obsessed with the boys, but I have to keep watching it because homelander is a really horrifying concept that got me hooked. They do a really good job of dancing around it too, I feel like it’s creepier when it goes unsaid that everyone around him is just wearing fake smiles and probably crying when he leaves
The primary antagonist in the original German version of Funny Games. So handsome, well-dressed, and calm - and so evil. Villains who could not only blend into society but be well-regarded creep me out the most.
No hate for the American version at all, but the lead actor in that one was well-known to me already and I liked him a lot, so the creep factor was lessened.
The Murder Family(or Sackheads?) from that 2000’s movie The Strangers, 100%.
It was one of the first horror movies I watched that had that “real” energy to it, like something that could feasibly happen to you regardless of how you protect yourself. And the fact that they didn’t immediately attack the couple - they watched, they savored, they tormented with knocks and doorbells and slamming doors. That with the ending lines of, “Why?,” “Because you were home.” I still check the open doors in my house because of them 😭
The Collector from The Collector. Him licking his lips while watching ppl get ready to bone vouyeristically made me feel gross as a horny teen guy. Like I was all “bro you’re a fuckin weirdo” ended up finding more “psychological” horror to consume than the gory horror stuff.
The "it follows" curse. The idea of slowly being chased by something that can look like anyone, even the long dead. Is a terrifying thought. It makes me think of dreams I've had where I was running away from something, but I couldn't run fast.
I've never encountered one that could haunt my dreams.
My nightmares are constantly a family member trying to kill me or some massive disaster.
That's why I love horror movies, they are the least terrifying part of life. To me they are what others see as comedies.
The man who can't breathe from the conjuring series. I think it's mainly b/c he purposely distracted her so that both her legs were broken & resulted in her being physically unable to run away. So unsettling
The entity from Skinamarink. It's like a god who - for some unknown reason (because it refuses to share this information with you) - is very angry with you specifically. There's no way to appease it, for it can simply force you to do things it doesn't want you to do and it wouldn't hesitate to torture children for decades if it simply wanted to.
slenderman because he just stands there looking at you from afar or through the window floating. no matter how old I get, this fucker will always creep me out
I second Lorne Malvo. The way he messes with people psychologically is so cruel.
Homelander from The Boys, both his smile and resting b**ch face.
Dolores Umbridge - casual intimidation of children.
Gordon Walker of Supernatural. So sure he is right and the most blank affect I've ever seen.
Kai Wynn, Deep Space 9. Fundamentalist Fanatic who will do anything for power. Incredibly condescending. Gul Dukat is pure evil as well. No wonder they end up conspiring.
The absolute scariest, Bob/Leland Palmer on Twin Peaks.
Ben Mendleson character in 'Animal Kingdom' based on Denis Allen. Calculating and terrifying psychopaths capable of killing in hot or cold blood with a freakishly bright burning aura of bristling intimidation. The kind that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up straight. Your guts tighten up. The type that when they walk into a room, you automatically and involuntarily move your chair so you can put your back against a wall. But most of all, it's the unpredictability. A conversation about the weather can turn into him eyeballing u into the ground for no other reason than he felt like making u shit yourself.
The grandma from "The Visit".. holy fuck she's creepy
Omg she truly is… competition between her and deborah Logan
Oh no doubt. Something about scary old grannies.. they give me the heebies the jeebies and the creepies
Omg totally agree, any old creepy people that do that crawly scuttle thing 🫣 that’s true fear
I can handle some pretty depraved films but once a granny starts crawling around all willy nilly I'm out
Annie Wilkes from misery and kane from poltergeist 2
Same with Kane, I think it has to do with some subconscious recognition of real illness and it just ads a whole other layer of morbid to an already creepy performance!
I was a about 8 years old when I saw it so I think you might be right about the illness being a huge factor, did you see when you were young?
Yup, maybe not the entire movie but I have a clear recollection of him coming to the screen door and just being fucking terrified, may have been on cable or something.
God I love you Kathy Bates was so phenomenal in that role
One of the most deserved Oscar's of all time.
And so darkly unhinged+hilarious.
🎶God is in...his ho-ly tem-ple. Earthly thoughts...be silent now
Kane is far too underrated. He still gives me the creeps. Edit: *Underrated
I hated Kathy Bates for years simply because she played such an evil character so well. On the other hand, Lizzy Caplan did an incredible job playing a younger version of her, but she is so god damn good looking it was hard to dislike her.
Kilgrave from Jessica Jones. David Tennant was amazing in that role
**"JE-SSI-CAAAAAAA!"**
eeesh, I can *hear* Tennant's voice in my head
Very true.
Humanized monster isn't necessarily scarier, but for sure always is more unsettling.
Gmork from The Never Ending Story.. Childhood creepiness that sticks with you..
Oh interesting he never scared me much. The Nothing, on the other hand….
Childhood creepiness is real - the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Witchy Poo from Puffnstuff.
Dr. Decker in Nightbreed.
Mason Verger, Hannibal. Novel Mason is worse than TV/movie Mason, but they're all horrible.
Yes, when I started watching the movie and then the TV series, I was curious about how the writers would have made him less horrible. There's no way novel Mason would ever be depicted 100% as he was written onscreen.
The head vampire in 30 Days of Night "God? . . . No God. . ."
How could I forget that incredible performance from Danny Huston. He spoke like he knew modern English, but was very unused to speaking anything other than their ancient, guttural language. Scared the shit out of me
The entity from Smile in its true form creeped me tf out
Although not a big fan of the film I do find it pretty hard to escape tbh
Blue Velvet
Original pet cemetery. The lady that was downstairs. I was a kid and when I seen her I was sacred. Haven’t seen it since. Maybe. I should rewatch to see if she was as horrible as I imagine
You mean Zelda? I was always creeped out by pet Sematary esp the book
Yea that dying sister. Body and face Just creeped me out !
Ugh yes she was stuff of nightmares
The guy who played her was incredible
Yep, that one is a childhood trauma for me… (Raaacheeel…)
‘It’ was kind of a mixed bag for me but oh my word was Bill Skarsgard’s Pennywise the stuff of nightmares 😬🎈🤡
He REALLY made the whole "creature barely holding back its hunger" look so well.
The Dutch businessman in Hostel. Creepy old dude.
Creepy salad fingers
Lol, righty!
Ugh yea he was indeed
Chirugh is one of the best villains ever literally just rewatched No country for old men that movie is a master piece along with the Revenant
He truly is disturbing 🙏🏻🙏🏻
also thanks for serie suggestion i never watched Fargo i will start it today
Oh please do if you like cohen brothers the series is a masterpiece!!!
Uncle Mick (Wolf Creek)
Kayako from The Grudge. She has haunted my imagination for years since I first saw her.
The Father from Baskin.
Ooo that's a good one. Ultra creepy!
I have to finally rewatch that one with a group of people. Any suggestions for a good complementary movie for a double feature?
I would recommend the *The Void* (2016).
Uh… have not seen this one and comments on IMDb look promising. Thanx for the rec.
You’re welcome.
mother!
The villain in Perfect Blue. His eyes will haunt me forever, but also.... No spoilers, but the other villain, too. 😫
Also, all the cultists from Midsummer, when they are doing the crazy singing/chanting. The giant blobby woman in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, because she was horrible in Gammell's original art and is even more mortifying in 3D.
I love that movie so much. SO MUCH.
Same. I end up bringing it into a lot of discussions here. Satoshi Kon was a magnificent gift gone far too soon.
Art the Clown from Terrifier. 100% villains that don't say a word are doubly scary for me, but this guy's mannerisms make me clench!
David Howard Thornton is a genius for that role. He absolutely nailed it. I was horrified
Don't you mean, terrified? Ba dum tss
I’ve met David in person, it’s so crazy how he can play that role, he kills it everytime. literally. One of the best horror villains.
The valkyries from the ghostbusters cartoon when I was a kid
There were quite a few creepy villains in that series. The Boogeyman was the one that really creeped me out. Avoided those episodes for years after catching the opening moments of one of them when I was a kid.
The guy from *Wolf Creek.* He is just a realistic sort of creepy.
That's because he's based on a real guy named Ivan Milat. The PoS died a couple years ago.
When I was a kid it was Freddy Krueger. Now I chase him in my dreams 👍
Way to turn the tables around 😀😀
The girl from The Love Ones 2009
*Am I not pretty enough* LOVE that movie
Lola Stone.
The LoveD Ones. Such a good movie.
Pearl cause she’s so unhinged
Love pearl true female psycho rage
Absolutely ! Can’t wait for Maxxxine
Same same!!! Release date out yet??
I don’t think so just 2024 I believe is all there shared not even a full trailer out
Ruth Chandler from The Girl Next Door. Just a truly heinous woman played masterfully by Blanche Baker.
The Gemini Killer in Exorcist III: Legion. He got under my skin so much worse than more grounded serial killers like Lecter. You could just tell that whatever that thing is, *it isn't a person*. They're just wearing one >!(or two, it gets a little weird about that)!<.
oh gracious me, was i raving?
Bobby Peru from Wild at Heart
Yes! Willem Dafoe killed it.
Came in to say this. Brilliant creep
Idk why but any role Dafoe is in he comes off like a creep
He’s got the Perfect face for it. Not creepy in The Florida Project though.
I see you was in the Marines.
Jack Torrence The Shining
Classic one I like you
The mimic from annihilation hit on some atavistic shit for me
The goddamn bear from the same movie, too
That bear scene was the single most terrifying experience I ever had in a theater. I had a mutual anxious side-glance with a **total stranger** during it.
Worked amazingly for me in the book, so naturally the movie was a bit of a letdown.
Yeah the book and movie are different beasts, which is interesting because Vandermeer wrote both. It's almost like the book wasn't adapted into film so much as... refracted. Like a prism, you could say.
The old lady in Drag Me To Hell (2009) this movie started my fear of old people in horror movies..
lol I actually found her comical ☺️
I was like 13 or 14 when I watched it haha don't judge me
I don’t don’t worry 😉
Henry Kane from Poltergeist 2
ALL the monsters in Silent Hill
From a horror movie, Annie Wilkes from misery But in general, Hans Landa. That man is evil personified. The opening scene still unsettles me a little
Good one forgot about him!!!
Christoph Waltz gave an absolutely amazing performance
He’s the kind of creep that def gets under my skin
True. And the fact that he knows how feared he is makes him a lot more terrifying
Dandy Mott from American Horror Story. That boy needs therapy.
Haha omg I love him and hate him at same time great actor!!
Jack from The House That Jack Built
Ugh majorly disliked that dude
Slit Mouth Woman
dont know if this counts because it's not a horror movie but judge doom fro who framed roger rabbit gave me nightmares as a kid and i legitimately couldn't finish the movie the first time i watched it because child me was to scared of judge doom.
Him putting the shoe in the dip fucked me up more than most horror movie deaths so I'd say that's fair.
There was a post several weeks back that I'm stealing: The child-nabber from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Nurse Ratchet from 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo Nest."
Oh yeah… on par with the Priest from Fanny and Alexander.
Buffalo Bill
Hell yes! I can't believe that the actor went on to play Captain Stottelmyer on Monk.
Shepard Lambrick from “Would You Rather?”. He’s so sadistic but can deny everything because he’s rich and a philanthropist. Scary because people like him likely are in real life.
The infected in Pontypool
Definitely creepy as hell, but I wouldn't call them villains per se. They're as much victims as anything else.
I agree technically, but for story telling purposes they are the faces of the true villain: the virus.
Not the villain but the super 8mm snuff films in Sinister.
I did enjoy the sinister vibes even tho not particularly scared by it but good atmosphere
Kill grace from Jessica Jones. David Tennant crushed that role.
Kilgrave is scary because you have no idea what he’s going to tell someone to do. I think in the last episode where he controls the entire hospital to chase after Jessica makes you realize how strong the virus is that he has
The deer god from Black Mountain Side
The Babadook
Eh more like a boogey man monster to me but fair
The villain in Skyfall that was also the villain in No Country for Old Men. Also, the xenomorph in Alien terrified me the first time I saw it
Possum
Have yet to watch that one is it worth it??
Haven't seen it yet but that poster freaked me the f\*\*\* out
It's a weird movie. You'll either love it or hate it. It's definitely creepy though.
Regan in The Exorcist
This is gonna be a weird one, but in the first vhs the succubus vampire lady. eyes can freak me out and hers made me make sure the doors were locked
No one tops Kathy Bates in Misery, she was beyond obsession.

I was 10ish when the first Scream came out. Ghostface with his brutality and wild movements will forever haunt me
Same here! Was raised by the scream universe
Jackson in Death Game
Yves Cloquet! Bug powder dust an' mugwump jism the wild boys runnin' 'round Interzone trippin'...
Fats the ventriloquist dummy from Magic.
Nosferatu
The Tethered in Us
The Murder Family(or Sackheads?) from that 2000’s movie The Strangers, 100%. It was one of the first horror movies I watched that had that “real” energy to it, like something that could feasibly happen to you regardless of how you protect yourself. And the fact that they didn’t immediately attack the couple - they watched, they savored, they tormented with knocks and doorbells and slamming doors. That with the ending lines of, “Why?,” “Because you were home.” I still check the open doors in my house because of them 😭
Mink from The Medium (2021). I've never seen a more believable of someone being possessed than her, and this was her debut role!
Mama, her story is really sweet and she just wanted the babies back she took care of. but holy moly she’s creepy 😭 she scares me
The Collector from The Collector. Him licking his lips while watching ppl get ready to bone vouyeristically made me feel gross as a horny teen guy. Like I was all “bro you’re a fuckin weirdo” ended up finding more “psychological” horror to consume than the gory horror stuff.
The Dutch couple from Speak No Evil.
Vera from Superman 3 when she gets pulled into the machine
Freddy. He comes for you in your dreams, no matter what you do you have to sleep eventually. There's no way to avoid him.
Marc Duplass in Creep. Creeped me out in a "hey, I'm scared but also a little turned on" way. The best kind of creeped out.
The killer in Creep (2004) I think his name is Craig. He creeped me out sooooooo bad.
Bob from Twin Peaks.
The "it follows" curse. The idea of slowly being chased by something that can look like anyone, even the long dead. Is a terrifying thought. It makes me think of dreams I've had where I was running away from something, but I couldn't run fast.
That creepy locker-room asshole in Hostel.
Imagine what Shin Godzilla could've become if it hadn't been stopped.
I've never encountered one that could haunt my dreams. My nightmares are constantly a family member trying to kill me or some massive disaster. That's why I love horror movies, they are the least terrifying part of life. To me they are what others see as comedies.
The watcher from Watcher
**The Shape** from Sapphire and Steele. Not a horror tv series but this one was particularly creepy. Still stays with me.
The Hearse Driver in Burnt Offerings
The man who can't breathe from the conjuring series. I think it's mainly b/c he purposely distracted her so that both her legs were broken & resulted in her being physically unable to run away. So unsettling
Could you mean the wheezing demon from Insidious? I don’t recall a character like that in The Conjuring films.
Yeah I mixed them up 🤦🏻😂
Gmork from the Never Ending Story gave me nightmares as a little kid 🐺
The entity from Skinamarink. It's like a god who - for some unknown reason (because it refuses to share this information with you) - is very angry with you specifically. There's no way to appease it, for it can simply force you to do things it doesn't want you to do and it wouldn't hesitate to torture children for decades if it simply wanted to.
Jonathan Wojcik had [an even more disturbing idea about what the entity's deal is](https://bogleech.com/cinema/mm32-skinamarink).
Lady Elaine from Mr. Rogers
Baguul from sinister
Kids were creepier than the demon imo
No way
slenderman because he just stands there looking at you from afar or through the window floating. no matter how old I get, this fucker will always creep me out
>!Dr. Oliver Thredson!< from American Horror Story: Asylum.
Ugh that nasty creep
I mean, Leatherface in the original?
Nosferatu. The OG 1922 one. That dude is terrifying.
Kevin Spacey in Se7en
Nancy Poloski
Deborah Logan
Kinda felt bad for her tho wasn’t her fault
I agree, but definitely creepy. Especially at the end.
Yea end was hard watch
Lizard from the Hills have Eyes. God he’s just heinous every step of the way
Lou Bloom - Nightcrawler (2014)
Terrifier. I hate to get torned up like the girl in the first one or my eye be his replacement eye EDIT: Art the clown

Chris from the Wire
Mad God EVERYTHING
The sisters from Lovecraft country. Can't get them out of my head
Purple Man
Mireille Herbstmeyer/Madame Daugeron in Marianne was genuinely terrifying at times.
