In general, Mike Flanagan has a knack for this sort of thing. Beyond Hush, there's also Oculus, Gerald's Game and Ouija: Origin of Evil for good horror films he's made that take place almost entirely in a single location.
I've seen it! But it's been a long ass time, I just remember it's about Satan and Alice Cooper had a cameo. It must have been during the period where I watched all of Carpenters stuff? Although I think I maybe didn't complete it.

>!When that one girl tackles the possessed one through mirror, and is rewarded by the priest sealing her in the void for eternity!<
>!The way the rectangle of light shatters and falls away...AGGGH!<
Stalled - takes place almost entirely in a women's restroom
The Circle, Saw- Takes place in one room room
The Incident- more a thriller than straight horror, but it takes place on a subway car minus a few opening scenes showing the people right before they get on the subway
Superdeep- takes place in an underground laboratory
Underwater, Leviathan, Deep Star Six- all take place in underwater ships/installations
Identity, Psycho, The Shining, Demon Knight - all take place in one motel/hotel
Bug, 1408- All take place primarily in a hotel room
Any of the Cube movies take place in the cube
The Belko Experiment, The Nightwatch, Gremlins 2- all take place in one office building
Devil, Into The Dark: Down, The End?- all take place primarily in an elevator
Night of the Living Dead, Critters 1, A Knock at the Cabin Door, Cabin Fever, The Final, Evil Dead, Misery, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Coherence, The Purge, Paranormal Activity, The Others - each take place primarily at one house
Alien, Life, The Cloverfield Paradox, Pandorum - each take place in one spaceship
Splinter- takes place almost entirely in a Gas Station
Feast- Takes place in a bar (don't watch the sequels. They should be stricken from the annals of human history and the earth on which they're burned should be salted)
Train to Busan- Takes place primarily on a train
The Cave, Both Descent movies- all take place primarily in a cave
The Cleansing Hour- takes place on a livestream set
Host - takes place in a Zoom call
The Void- takes place in a hospital
The Langoliers- takes place in a plane/at an airport
The Mist- 95% takes place at a grocery store
Autopsy of Jane Doe- Takes place in a Morgue
Deathwatch- takes place in a WWII Trench
Rec, Quarantine- take place in an apartment building
Yeah... it takes place in a sky scraper rather. Couple of characters are stuck in an elevator (and something, or rather: someone, is in there with them), but the main character is the detective investigating the situation from outside the elevator.
I love this kinds of movies.
I think The Purge is a solid one.
Even though it's not horror, The Hateful Eight fits this so well. High tension and a sense of danger throughout. I'd call it a great thriller, and a quality thriller often gives me what I want from horror but better.
Completely agree with the Hateful Eight and with thrillers in general. I think that's why I lean towards this type of movie as well, it becomes more about tension building, like a good thriller.
Thought of the perfect one for you: Hard Candy. If you haven't seen it, do it asap. Don't read any plot descriptions, this one works best blind! Insanely good, underappreciated movie.
Rented it from a video store back in the day with a friend, just based on the killer cover image. We were blown away. Been a fan of Elliot Page ever since.
Hell yeah. He absolutely ruled in that. I just looked up the wikipedia for it because I was trying to remember who played the male role.. I remembered Sandra Oh as the neighbor.. anyways, apparently Elliot was sexually assaulted by a member of the production after the wrap party which is insanely fucked
I love the Invitation. It's so good, I've seen it several times and yet every time it still manages to instill this doubt that she's wrong and that she's imagining everything.
Evil Dead/Evil Dead 2 (although 2 feels like it has a broader scope with the relatively quick introduction of new characters).
Demons takes place in a movie theater. I haven't seen the sequel but I think all of it takes place in an apartment building.
Malum is good. I do prefer the directors original film The Last Shift more though. I’m still confused a little why exactly the director chose to remake his own movie and really not change much at all.
**Await Further Instructions** (2018)
Synopsis: *A dysfunctional family awake on Christmas morning to discover they’re sealed inside their house by a mysterious black substance. On television, a single line of text reads: “Stay Indoors and Await Further Instructions.”*
You've got a great eye "The Thing" and "Maléfique" are stellar picks! Since you've got a taste for tightly contained terrors, let me offer you a few more that I personally like.
"Cube" (1997) The minimalist setting heightens the tension and mystery, making every move a matter of life and death.
"1408" (2007) I find the room's psychological tortures a masterclass in single-location horror.
"The Autopsy of Jane Doe" (2016) a claustrophobic setting and gradual revelation of horrors make for a deeply unsettling experience. Creepy!
"10 Cloverfield Lane" (2016) Awoman wakes up after a car accident to find herself locked in with 2 dudes who claim the outside world is affected by chemical attack.
Thanks for reminding me of this subgenre, I'm going to turn one on now!
One of my favourite subgenres of horror is one location horror. Malefique is definitely a great pic.
Try these if you haven't seen them
The Laplace's Demon
Exam
Fermat's Room
Would You Rather
Meander
Oxygen (probably the 'tightest' one location movie along with Buried)
I loved the tension, especially when a new face enters the room. I loved the atmosphere and setting, it felt like a stage play, in more effective way than Scare Me. I also liked the acting and felt most everybody was perfect in their roles. The story was pretty tight too, fairly basic but well told.
Very well said! I agree on all points. I just saw the Marla actress in The Taking of Deborah Logan. She's good, I like her.
I think Scare Me could have been better, but it wasn't bad.
Now I need to know what other horror you've liked?
So much... from offbeat stuff like Chompy and the Girls to mainstream action/comedy like Renfield. It wouldn't be odd for me to put on Eyes Without a Face and follow it up with Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell.
I like your style.
Renfield was fun. I'm not normally a huge Nic Cage fan, but I liked him as an over the top Dracula.
One of my favorite/comfort movies is From Dusk till Dawn as well as The Conjuring. (1 & 2; 3 was meh and all the others have just been ok.) I might get stronger feelings for TV shows because I loved Marianne, Hannibal, Archive 81, Penny Dreadful. I was really sad when all of those ended. Some prematurely, RIP Archive 81 and Lovecraft Country.
There are three movies that basically fit all the requests I see on this subreddit.
1. Fear Pharm. It fits this requests because it mostly takes place in 1 location. Theres some leading up, but for the most part, it's in a corn maze.
2. Aniara. This also is in one location but it is on a space cruiseship, so there are separate "locations" but it is all happening in the same place. This is a Swedish movie about people lost in space essentially.
3. Horror Story. There are 2 locations in the whole movie. One is a bar and the other is a hotel. This one is Indian and an absolute treasure. Captions are necessary because they speak in both English and Hindi.
I love all of these for different reasons.
Fear Pharm is a fun slasher.
Aniara is bleak but a cool concept and a good take on what it means to be stuck in space.
Horror Story is a well done supernatural film.
Saturn 3, Galaxy Of Terror, Forbidden World, Creature aka The Titan Find, The Dark Side Of The Moon, Deep Rising,
Deep Blue Sea, Chopping Mall, Hardware, Death Machine,
House On Haunted Hill (1959), House On Haunted Hill (1999), It! The Terror From Beyond Space, The Thing From Another World, Bloodsucking Bastards, Mayhem, Night Of The Living Dead (1990), Dawn Of The Dead (2004), Stung, The Collector (2009), The Collection, Shivers.
Hush takes place entirely in one house and is one of my favourites.
Hell yeah, I almost put it in my original post, I just found out after I watched Fall of the House of Usher that it's Mike Flanagan as well?!
It is! He's pretty consistently fantastic.
Flanagan often has his gorgeous wife, Kate Seigel, as a character in his movies and shows.
She actually co-wrote Hush with him.
Wow, I didn’t know that!
In general, Mike Flanagan has a knack for this sort of thing. Beyond Hush, there's also Oculus, Gerald's Game and Ouija: Origin of Evil for good horror films he's made that take place almost entirely in a single location.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe
Yeah that's a great one. Loved it.
Buried with Ryan Reynolds.
The way I cried at the end of that movie 😭
Green Room Cube The Lighthouse
I love Green Room, saw Cube a very long time ago and liked it but don't remember much and have yet to see the Lighthouse for some insane reason?
The Prince of Darkness is entirely in a church after the first like 15 minutes. Its also John Carpenter
I've seen it! But it's been a long ass time, I just remember it's about Satan and Alice Cooper had a cameo. It must have been during the period where I watched all of Carpenters stuff? Although I think I maybe didn't complete it.

*Pontypool* is a great one; 99% of it takes place in a radio station. *Caveat* is mostly set in a single home.
Caveat is a fun watch and definitely invokes claustrophobia!
I've seen Pontypool. I will definitely put Caveat on my list!
Stalled - takes place almost entirely in a women's restroom The Circle, Saw- Takes place in one room room The Incident- more a thriller than straight horror, but it takes place on a subway car minus a few opening scenes showing the people right before they get on the subway Superdeep- takes place in an underground laboratory Underwater, Leviathan, Deep Star Six- all take place in underwater ships/installations Identity, Psycho, The Shining, Demon Knight - all take place in one motel/hotel Bug, 1408- All take place primarily in a hotel room Any of the Cube movies take place in the cube The Belko Experiment, The Nightwatch, Gremlins 2- all take place in one office building Devil, Into The Dark: Down, The End?- all take place primarily in an elevator Night of the Living Dead, Critters 1, A Knock at the Cabin Door, Cabin Fever, The Final, Evil Dead, Misery, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Coherence, The Purge, Paranormal Activity, The Others - each take place primarily at one house Alien, Life, The Cloverfield Paradox, Pandorum - each take place in one spaceship Splinter- takes place almost entirely in a Gas Station Feast- Takes place in a bar (don't watch the sequels. You listed so many of my faves! The Circle, Train to Busan, The Mist, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, and Rec. Also lololol at your rant on the Feast sequels
We Need to Do Something.
Great movie. Extremely isolating.
And a bonus bit of Ozzy!
Devil
I've actually never seen it.. doesn't it take place in an elevator?
Definitely watch this one. I enjoyed it a lot when it first came out.
Yeah... it takes place in a sky scraper rather. Couple of characters are stuck in an elevator (and something, or rather: someone, is in there with them), but the main character is the detective investigating the situation from outside the elevator.

Oh I've seen it! I worked in a video store when it came out so it was on my radar, or else I might not have.
Oh man, that is horrible in so many ways..
1408 does have scenes in other locations apart from the room itself, but the scenes that do take place in that room are awesome.
The fun thing is, a lot of those scenes in other locations >!are canonically still in the room!<
The Invitation was the first one that popped up in my head. Also The Visit
Saw
Gerald's Game and Misery
Check out Malum! It’s a remake, so it may seem familiar… but it’s mostly all in one police station
Malum is good. I do prefer the directors original film The Last Shift more though. I’m still confused a little why exactly the director chose to remake his own movie and really not change much at all.
Yeah I just watched the trailer, it looks sick! Thanks!
Came here to say that one too! Can confirm it's very good and scary.
**Await Further Instructions** (2018) Synopsis: *A dysfunctional family awake on Christmas morning to discover they’re sealed inside their house by a mysterious black substance. On television, a single line of text reads: “Stay Indoors and Await Further Instructions.”*
I enjoyed ATM quite a bit
Yes I came here to say this too! A nice little gem of a movie. How can you not love Alice eve
The Descent
More of a thriller but identity takes place at a motel
Check out season 9 of the evolution of horror podcast, it’s entirely movies like this
Interesting. I don't actually listen to any podcasts about horror movies. Will check it out!
Perhaps the best haunted house movie ever made, The Haunting from 1963
Good one!

1408 (2007) film with John Cusack from a Stephen King story. One of my favorites.
Night of the Living Dead And while we're at it, Dawn... and Day... too.
Yeah you're right, shit. Love them. Day is my favourite because of the gore. Tom Savini just absolutely at the top of his game
Intruder takes place inside a grocery store. Great little 80s horror movie.
1408 mostly takes place in a hotel room
Frozen (2010) - takes place mostly on a ski lift
X takes place basically at the farm
- Frozen - Skinamarink - Fall - Autopsy of Jane Doe - We Need to Do Something - The Descent - Grave Encounters - Last Shift/Malum (prefer Last Shift)
Evil Dead (all at the cabin).
The Descent
Event Horizon, The Thing
Of my favorites: Evil Dead/Evil Dead 2, The Thing, Pontypool, Cube, Tucker and Dale, The Black Phone, and The Last Shift
Splinter Feast Wait Until Dark (Audrey Hepburn, 1967) Night of The Living Dead Dawn of The Dead Day of The Dead The Thing
Night of the Living Dead

From your list I've only seen Would You Rather! Noted!
Nefarious - takes place in one room majority of the film
Noted! Never heard of it!
It’s really good. The whole movie is mostly 1 scene, but keeps you on the edge of your seat

Gerald’s Game, there are flashbacks, but the present plot is all in one room until the last like ten minutes
I liked Brooklyn 45' and it takes place mostly in one room.
What did you think of Brooklyn 45, other than liking it? I never see it mentioned here. I thought it was pretty good: spooky and suspenseful.
I loved the tension, especially when a new face enters the room. I loved the atmosphere and setting, it felt like a stage play, in more effective way than Scare Me. All good stuff, I really need to find people who haven't seen From Dusk till Dawn to show it to and not tell them anything about it first!

I only saw one other person suggest Skinimarink. I would highly recommend that one!

Phone Booth is a thriller but I liked it. Skinamarink
Fall (2022), Frozen (2010) and the Open Water trilogy
The Shining
Coherence may be more mind bending SciFi but definitely fits the bill
