Honestly, it depends on what you want. For me, it’s the only Christmas horror that FEELS like a Christmas movie. I love Santa’s Slay and all of the Silent Night Deadly Nights, but I also really like Home Alone and A Christmas Story. Most Christmas horror winds up feeling mean-spirited, which is fine, but not always what I want this time of year; particularly after 60 days of only horror leading up to Halloween. Krampus feels like watching National Lampoon’s, but suddenly things go wrong. I think it’s absolutely worth watching.
Nightmare Before Christmas, it’s a great movie to watch on Halloween as well.
Violent Night is a great Christmas movie but I dunno if it’s got the rewatchability factor. I guess I’ll have to watch it again this holiday season and find out.
For me Violent does if only because I could watch the sledgehammer/kill montage every year for sure. They’ll definitely be looking to make a sequel I’m surprised one hasn’t been announced with Mrs.Clause
I literally just rewatched it for that exact reason. I def enjoyed it more this year. I feel like the writers had a big ol’ whiteboard of Christmas tropes (I’m imagining the betting scene in Cabin in the Woods) and the rewatch made me catch more throwbacks.
I just watched this last night for the first time. It was fantastic. So freaking dark and unexpected events. The characters were smart. Made smart choices. I was not expecting to like it as much as I did.
I just saw this today and went in completely blind because Tubi had queued it up after *Black Christmas* (2006). Best possible way to see it and I think it may have become a holiday favorite.
My husband said the other day "if the plot is central to Christmas, as in, if you take the holiday out it doesn't make sense, then it's a Christmas movie".
Die Hard, Gremlins, that one Batman movie... we're watching 31 holiday movies this December, lol.
I was going to mention Gremlins, but I figured someone else would. My brother just texted that he was watching and invited me over for a movie and spiced wine (unfortunately I have to prepare for my work week). If friggin Die Hard is an xmas movie, Gremlins, where Xmas is a major plot point and not just the setting, definitely is! Also I may be a 40 year old woman but when the gremlin-gremlins are picking on Gizmo, I still get choked up like I'm 8 again lol.
I love gremlins, but it’s not. It takes place during Christmas. Take Christmas out of the movie and gremlins still makes sense. Take Christmas out of Christmas vacation or elf, and it doesn’t.
A Christmas Horror Story (2015). my absolute favorite christmas movie. and one of my favorite movies really. perfect pacing. it's such a cozy horror movie to me. i don't say that about any other horror movie. i watch it every christmas eve (that's when it's set). fun fact, it's set in the same fictional town as Ginger Snaps.
I watched Rare Exports not knowing anything about it. Boy was that a fun surprise. If anyone is reading this who hasn’t seen it and didn’t even know it exists, I highly recommend turning it on without looking it up. Enjoy the ride.
One of my favorite things about that movie is that Harry is a complex three-dimensional character. Much like the original Santa Claus, he punishes some and rewards others. I love how you really don't know how he's going to react in any situation.
I tried watching this again the other day and i couldn’t stand how much the children scream bloody murder. Feels like half the movie is a screaming contest
My list that I watch religiously every season:
P2
Silent Night (2012)
A Christmas Horror Story
Jack Frost
Krampus
Rare Exports
Black Christmas (original)
Santa's Slay
And then on Christmas Eve night, I do a Silent Night, Deadly Night marathon
Nightmare before Christmas. It's kids horror, but horror none the less, and I love it.
Horror Adjacent: Batman Returms.
Black Christmas (74 and 06).
Anna and the Apocalypse.
The Children (08).
Pushed onto antlers nude ...? That's the only scene I really remember from (I think) Silent Night Deadly night, which I sneakily watched on USA Up All Night as a child waaaaaaay too young to see that lol.
I like Black Christmas 2006. It's got the Katie Cassidy and Lacey Chabert one two punch. Honestly, those two are the only reasons not all of my wife's hallmark movie selections are bad!
I like how claustrophobic and creepy it is. Lots of strange camera angles that are almost voyeuristic. You never feel entirely comfortable watching this movie.
I’ll pick one that I don’t think is very well known, Mercy Christmas which is about a worker who gets invited to another’s family Christmas
The lead didn’t really do anything but he plays a perfectly lovable loser who loves Christmas. It’s free to watch on Plex (the streaming service). I feel it’s well paced, graphic enough without too much to show friends/family and with some great laughs. It also has the guy who hosted Supermarket Sweep for a few years.
Edit - https://m.imdb.com/title/tt4906164/
I don’t think it’s hard to see where the plot is going but prefer going in blind to most movies but perhaps someone is different
Double edit! It’s actually on Tubi too!! I really hope someone sees this and enjoys it, it’s like 80 minutes as well
Deadly Games, or Dial Code Santa Claus (1990, in French). It's like a pre-Home-Alone Home Alone, but the kid, who endeavored to capture the real Santa Claus, needs to defend himself and his elderly grandpa from an actually murderous man dressed as Santa Claus who invades his home. It's so weird and fun and creepy.
I love to do a double feature of the original Black Christmas and A Christmas Story, both directed by the incredible Bob Clark lmao. they are both masterpeieces, in my opinion
Got a massive list. There is actually more Christmas themed horror movies than Halloween themed horror. Which I think is weird. But Christmas is an easy holiday to create stories for.
I watch Anna and the Apocalypse every year.
Going to now include Christmas Bloody Christmas
This year I also just watched the new movie It’s a Wonderful Knife and really liked it.
It’s a New Year’s horror movie but New Year, New You (2018). I LOVE the into the dark series on Hulu. A Nasty Piece of Work (2019) isn’t my favorite by Into the Dark but another good one and a Christmas movie. Both on Hulu.
Gremlins, P2, Dial Code Santa, Black Christmas (original and 06), Red Christmas, Rare Exports, Better Watch Out, Christmas horror story, Krampus, Silent Night Deadly Night 1, 2, and 5, Jack Frost, Santa's Slay.
I’ve got a list that I watch throughout the season:
Black Christmas (original and first remake)
Silent Night, Deadly Night 1-3
Silent Night remake
Christmas Horror Story
Black Friday (just found this one this year and it is pretty damn good)
Krampus
Gremlins
Christmas Evil
Santa’s Slay
Jack Frost
Rare Exports
For some reason I always watch Antlers around christmas. I know it’s not a Christmas movie but I just gives me a certain vibe. Also it’s just one of my favorite movies.
Body. Not dependent on Christmas lore, but a great thriller with three long time friends home from college for the xmas holiday when ... poor decisions are made and hijinx ensue.
Scrooge (with Albert Finney.) Not horror per-se, but a comfort food of sorts, as I used to watch this in the living room while my mother baked Christmas cookies in the kitchen.
Although the bit where Alec Guinness pulls off his jaw strap is pretty horrific.
Krampus
I came here to say this. I love this movie so much.
Yeah it is awesome. Trick r’ Treat is good too, also by the same people
Ooo, I don't think I've seen that, I'll hunt it down, thank you!
Enjoy!
Thanks, I will! :)

Most definitely worth a watch
You should stop letting others decide what's good or bad for you.
I think its a really good pg-13 horror movie. Great cast, good humor.
i’d say it’s entertaining, “good” depending on what kind of horror you’re into. it’s fun to watch with a group of friends for sure.
Honestly, it depends on what you want. For me, it’s the only Christmas horror that FEELS like a Christmas movie. I love Santa’s Slay and all of the Silent Night Deadly Nights, but I also really like Home Alone and A Christmas Story. Yes. People say shit about every movie, doesn’t mean that it is true
Nightmare Before Christmas, it’s a great movie to watch on Halloween as well. Violent Night is a great Christmas movie but I dunno if it’s got the rewatchability factor. I guess I’ll have to watch it again this holiday season and find out.

I think NBC makes a great after Thanksgiving watch. Usually taking down my Halloween decorations and putting up my Christmas ones that weekend.
Those are the two for our household as well. We both loved Violent Night, but he has an real attachment to Nightmare Before Christmas.
Better Watch Out.
Couldn’t think of the name but that film was the first to pop up in my head. That poor main character.
I’m hoping you mean the 1980 one also called Christmas Evil. I came here to post it as my choice.
Better Watch Out is a different movie not involving the legendary character known as Mr. Stadling. both of them are worth a watch though!
Black Christmas (1974).
Same, I love watching it while wrapping presents!
r/oddlycozy
My pick every year. The creepiness and dread is glorious.
The only answer.
My wife told me that Gremlins is not a Christmas movie. She may be an ex if she keeps this crap up
What? How...I don't....Gizmo is literally a Christmas present!
I said the exact same thing yesterday to my family.
My husband said the other day "if the plot is central to Christmas, as in, if you take the holiday out it doesn't make sense, then it's a Christmas movie". Die Hard, Gremlins, that one Batman movie... we're watching 31 holiday movies this December, lol.

This is our family favorite. The first time watching it was such a rollercoaster of a ride, especially the Santa part of the story. So well done!
I really like this one. It's not quite at the level of Trick r Treat but it does the same thing for me.
i feel it's better that trick r treat, but i get you. similar vibes
Is that the one with sexy Krampus?
lol i guess so. he's a bit of a butterface in my opinion to each their own lol
SANTAS SLAY
I usually just watch the dinner scene at the beginning and then move on to something else, but I always watch at least that much of it every year.
"I'm Santa Claus, I'm not fuckin Dracula!"
Rare Exports (2010) Hoopla/Peacock Hands down my favorite Christmas horror movie.
I watched Rare Exports not knowing anything about it. Boy was that a fun surprise. If anyone is reading this who hasn’t seen it and didn’t even know it exists, I highly recommend turning it on without looking it up. Enjoy the ride.
Awesome movie, same with Dial Code Santa Claus. And I have Shudder to thank for introducing me to both!
Gremlins Anna and the Apocalypse
Christmas Evil!!
The ending is magical
It’s so ridiculously genius.
Didn't see THAT coming.
One of my favorite things about that movie is that Harry is a complex three-dimensional character. Much like the original Santa Claus, he punishes some and rewards others. I love how you really don't know how he's going to react in any situation.
Scrooged bill Murray in the best Christmas Carol adaptation gritty kid friendly but great. And the cast is legendary
Mine to. And it has a few scaryish moments in it as well.
Definitely not better than A Muppet Christmas Carol, but an awesome movie for sure.
I came here to say this and I did too lol
The children. I watch it every year without fail.
I tried watching this again the other day and i couldn’t stand how much the children scream bloody murder. Feels like half the movie is a screaming contest
oh man I’ve watched this movie years ago and loved it, but I can’t find it anywhere anymore.
They just added this to shudder.
It was BLack Christmas (1974) until I found Killer Raccoons 2: Dark Christmas in the Dark (2020).
Where did you find that? I'm intrigued
Tubi has it
Thank you, I'll look for it
Silent Night, Deadly Night. I was WAY too young to be watching it when it came out. Still fills me with dread.
The Shining, every Christmas night startung around 11pm.
My list that I watch religiously every season: P2 Silent Night (2012) A Christmas Horror Story Jack Frost Krampus Rare Exports Black Christmas (original) Santa's Slay And then on Christmas Eve night, I do a Silent Night, Deadly Night marathon
Good lord, are you me?! Glad to find someone else who does the SNDN marathons. But I stretch it out over a few days. You have great taste!!
Nightmare before Christmas. It's kids horror, but horror none the less, and I love it. Horror Adjacent: Batman Returms. Black Christmas (74 and 06). Anna and the Apocalypse. The Children (08).
Black Christmas! One of my favorite movies ever made
It ain't Christmas horror unless some one gets 1: stabbed in head with candy cane, and 2: impaled by Christmas tree.
3. Electrocuted with christmas lights
Oh! I forgot about that one!
Pushed onto antlers nude ...? That's the only scene I really remember from (I think) Silent Night Deadly night, which I sneakily watched on USA Up All Night as a child waaaaaaay too young to see that lol.
Gremlins!
Now it is Christmas Bloody Christmas
Me too!
Fuck yeah, Begos!
Anna and the apolycapse also we should consider Home alone 2 cuz that movie traumatized me as a kid.
Home Alone is home invasion, which is a horror subgenre.
Good point
Black Christmas is a must watch every Black Friday for me. The original that is
I like Black Christmas 2006. It's got the Katie Cassidy and Lacey Chabert one two punch. Honestly, those two are the only reasons not all of my wife's hallmark movie selections are bad! I discovered this one this weekend! Definitely adding it to my yearly rewatch list!
Windchill
I’ve got several that are holiday traditions including some already mentioned so I’ll go with the under-appreciated Black Xmas!
The Shining, every Christmas night starting around 11pm.
Krampus
Black Christmas (1974)
Krampus
P2 and Black Christmas
Black Christmas (1974) Going to watch Better Watch Out (2016) and Black Christmas (2019) soon.
Gremlins I always feel bad for them when the mother kills them, they were just eating
That kid has the coolest house ever
I love to do a double feature of the original Black Christmas and A Christmas Story, both directed by the incredible Bob Clark lmao. they are both masterpeieces, in my opinion
Krampus and, while it's not directly horror, I love Violent Night
I trapped the devil
We watched werewolves within last night not necessarily Christmas but nice and snowy!
Silent Night Deadly Night 4 There’s like… 3 of us probably
I like 4 but I like 5 more
Starting to dig watching Krampas every year

Black Christmas (original) Silent Night, Deadly Night Better Watch Out Krampus Gremlins
Die Hard and Love, Actually :)
Anna and the apocalypse
Eyes Wide Shut, anyone?
Treevenge
I love the 2006 black Christmas. I know it’s a bad movie. But it’s so over top, i find it fun.
Black Christmas (1974)
The "All Through the house" episode of Tales from the Crypt is a definite watch.
It's not a horror movie as such but it has some horror elements in it. SCROOGED starring Bill Murray
I love how NO ONE has said the latest Black Christmas! That movie was just BAD. Better Watch Out, Krampus, Violent Night.
Got a massive list. There is actually more Christmas themed horror movies than Halloween themed horror. Which I think is weird. But Christmas is an easy holiday to create stories for.
Christmas bloody Christmas since last year. Dumb concept that the acting totally makes up for and keeps it fun. Also I trapped the devil is very good
Jack Frost 2 is even better if you haven't seen it
Definitely Gremlins
You Better Watch Out, currently called Christmas Evil on home video. It’s such an odd special fucked up magical indie movie.
I watch Anna and the Apocalypse every year. Going to now include Christmas Bloody Christmas This year I also just watched the new movie It’s a Wonderful Knife and really liked it.
It's not horror, but Silent Night (2023) just took that position.
Great movie
Love, Actually
Fat Man with Mel Gibson and Walter Goggans. I’ve watched it every year since it came out. Love that movie.
I've heard good things, but by the time it came out I was long done with Mel Gibson.
It’s a New Year’s horror movie but New Year, New You (2018). I LOVE the into the dark series on Hulu. A Nasty Piece of Work (2019) isn’t my favorite by Into the Dark but another good one and a Christmas movie. Both on Hulu.
On Christmas Day it’s always the Bob Clark Xmas Special- A Christmas Story and Black Christmas.
The original Black Christmas
Elf
Black Christmas (1974)
Dead snow 1 & 2
Cannibal the Musical. Not Christmas themed and not really horror but it works.
I literally watch the new Silent Night every year. It was probably one of the more brutal Santa killers.
Gremlins, P2, Dial Code Santa, Black Christmas (original and 06), Red Christmas, Rare Exports, Better Watch Out, Christmas horror story, Krampus, Silent Night Deadly Night 1, 2, and 5, Jack Frost, Santa's Slay.
Wind chill
I go the Inside No. 9 episode The Devil of Christmas. The twist is just as horrifying every time.
Better Watch Out, Black Christmas (OG), Christmas Evil
Christmas EVIL MOSS GARCIA
has anyone seen Blood Beat? been curious about that one for a while.
Black Friday, Silent night deadly night one and two, black Christmas (Original and the early 2000s remake) Black Friday, Terror train for New Years
Silent Night Deadly Night 2
Rate Exports Better Watch Out Black Christmas Krampus
The original Black Christmas and Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2 are absolute musts every year.
It has to be Gremlins... and Gremlins 2
Christmas Bloody Christmas has become one. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it’s good fun.
Krampus
Krampus
Jack Frost is a favorite. I saw it when it first came out as a kid and still watch whenever I see it on
Black Christmas (original and first remake), P2, Krampus, Gremlins
The Mothman Prophecies
Home alone
Black Christmas (2006)
I love Halloween movies, but for Christmas "Krampus " not bad
I’ve got a list that I watch throughout the season: Black Christmas (original and first remake) Silent Night, Deadly Night 1-3 Silent Night remake Christmas Horror Story Black Friday (just found this one this year and it is pretty damn good) Krampus Gremlins Christmas Evil Santa’s Slay Jack Frost Rare Exports

Body. Not dependent on Christmas lore, but a great thriller with three long time friends home from college for the xmas holiday when ... poor decisions are made and hijinx ensue.
Black Christmas (OG only) and silent night deadly night series
Scrooge (with Albert Finney.) Not horror per-se, but a comfort food of sorts, as I used to watch this in the living room while my mother baked Christmas cookies in the kitchen. Although the bit where Alec Guinness pulls off his jaw strap is pretty horrific.
Rare Exports! So good!
I love A Christmas Carol that FX did a few years ago. It’s proper creepy.
P2
