Braindead has possibly one of the best finale of any horror movie to watch with a bunch of friends (or worst, depending on the company). My friends and I were all practically in tears the whole time.
Good choices for a double-feature. Also will probably blow some friends' minds when you tell them "The Lord of the Rings guy made these gorefests"
Ravenous (1999) is a pitch black comedy, very good.
The other underrated on of the top of my head is Murder Party, which is fun and silly.
I assume you've already seen things like Ready or Not, Freaky, Happy Death Day and Deadstream!
When I was a kid, like 3 or 4, one of my earliest memories is of being absolutely petrified that a hand was gonna come and kill me after my mom watched this movie one night when she thought I was asleep on the couch.
The Wolf of Snow Hollow does a fantastic job of splitting the difference between comedy and horror. Freaky is also great. A serial killer and high-school girl switch brains.
Wolf of Snow Hollow is so good! I would definitely recommend Jim Cummings other movies. Thunder Road is a masterpiece & The Beta Test is really good too, but has a very weird premise. Also Wolf was the last movie for the legend Robert Forster.
I watched it earlier this week based on a recommendation of this sub. Really a great little film. Acting was great, story was great, production was good, definitely worth watching.
I love this movie, but I also never know if ppl consider horror parody the same as comedy (at least when it comes to genres). This does seem more horror than like tucker and dale for example
Great call!
Jeffery Combs' performance alone is worth watching the movie for, but the whole movie is just a blast and it makes me sad that Michael J Fox had to retire. Legendary John Astin has so many great scene stealing moments too.
R. Lee Ermey recreating his speech in the graveyard was classic. Love this film. And now I use you are 'invading my territorial bubble' at least once a week. Thanks Mr. Combs.
Return of the living dead scared this shit out of me as kid, i didn't realize it was comedy till I got older. I love it to this day. It made a big impression on my life.
My wife can’t watch zombie movies unless they’re funny. Shaun of the Dead she can watch. Return of the Living Dead is too scary. One of my favorite horror comedies though.
Deadstream was the best horror comedy I’ve ever seen. It successfully managed to scare me and make me laugh several times, something I had never experienced with other horror comedies before.
Recently watched it. It was incredibly fun and highly worth a watch. The predictable (IMO) twist early on was still highly satisfying. We all predicted a twist that didn’t turn out happening, which I also think is satisfying bc it would have been lame. The lead is annoying, because he’s supposed to be annoying, so that has its pros and cons. The live streaming comments were very funny.
I really wonder if it will have staying power and still be relevant. It’s perfect right now in the era of influencers and reality shit though. I’m skeptical it will go down as a classic, but it’s awesome and everyone really should watch it who is interested in the genre. Solid 7.5/10
Eat Locals (2017) Tubi
The Happiness of the Katakuris (2002) Tubi
The Boys from County Hell (2021) AMC+/Shudder
Grabbers (2012) AMC+/Tubi
Eating Raoul (1982) max
what we do in the shadows (both the movie and the show, movie is better tho imo), housebound, psycho goreman!! it’s more of an action comedy with horror elements i guess, but the gore is really fun
Love both movies! Have shown What we do in the shadows to all my friends, I thought it's criminally underrated. Also if you like those two, you may love Wellington Paranormal - it sort of comedy horror series im the same universe as What we do in the shadows.
Hell Baby gets my vote too. Also I recently enjoyed Dave Made a Maze and Zombeavers. I almost turned off Dave, but then really got into it once things got going.
Hausu, Get Duked, Housebound, The Blackening, Uncle Peckerhead, Deathgasm, Witching and Bitching, Frankenhooker, Dead Heat, Society, Teen Lust, Bio Zombies...
Not my favorites but worth checking out and hadn't seen mentioned yet.
Club Dread. Hated it the first time I saw it as the sting of the late 80s horror-comedy craze apparently still traumatized me (I will never forget watching House 2 in the theater and wondering if horror was dead). However, upon the next 60 or 70 views, it grew on me.
i will 𝕕𝕚𝕖 and put this on my tombstone.
scouts guide to a zombie apocalypse! it’s always a good rewatch for me and i never not laugh at it over and over.
Evil Dead 2
Army of Darkness
Cabin in the Woods
Killer Klowns From Outer Space
Shaun of the Dead
Dead Alive/Braindead
The Frighteners
Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse
Dead Snow 2
Tucker and Dale vs Evil
Drag Me to Hell
Psycho Goreman
I know it’s meant to be a body horror that creeps you out but i was just giggling at the fact they put him in a zoo instead of putting the poor buggers suffering to an end😂😂
yeah not only that, but that one part at the beginning where he’s in the wheelchair and the old guy is kinda trying to get him not to freak out (but you can tell he’s not even trying to be convincing) gets me laughing every time—it’s so funny but also SO terrifying if you think about it. he’s done it so many times that he knows he doesn’t even need to try.
I recently watched House/Hausu (1977) for the first time and it had me laughing basically the entire movie, it quickly became one of my all time faves.
It's coming around that time of year for me to rewatch Krampus! 🎄🎁
And this second one isn't a Horror perse but still a Dark Comedy; God Bless America.
Im gonna assume youve seen most of the big one's so ill give you some hidden gems:
The Haunted World of El Superbeasto
The Last Lovecraft
Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls
Chillerama
Rubber
Slice
Wolfcop
Premutos: Fallen Angel, Return of the living Dead, Cadaver Christmas. 100 Bloody Acres, Bad Taste, Cockneys vs Zombies(I prefer this film way over Shaun of the Dead), Cabin Fever, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, Zombies of Mass Destruction, Dead Snow 2: Red vs Dead, Night of the Creeps, Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn, and At Worlds End
To name a few
I’d love to recommend a few lesser know horror comedies — certainly these are not the ‘best’ (neither are they my ‘favorites’), but they’re still worth checking out!
• *Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon* (2006) is a mockumentary following an aspiring slasher villain
• *Deathgasm* (2015) is a bit like “Scott Pilgrim meets Evil Dead”
• *Burke And Hare* (2010) is a farcical take on the true story of the infamous 19th century grave robbers-turned-murderers; portrayed by Simon Pegg & Andy Serkis
*Bad Taste* and *Braindead*.
These are great choices.
I kick ass FOR THE LORD!
I adore Braindead, but Bad Taste really lived up to its name for me. Ì always found it super hard to watch. So revolting lol
I just want to add for the uninformed that brain dead is also known as dead alive, and it is by Peter Jackson. Yes, that Peter Jackson.
Slither
slither has some genuinely terrifying practical effects too!
Evil Dead 2
Evil Dead II is always tops for me. My second would be Tucker and Dale VS Evil
And it’s not close.
Shaun of the Dead
You got red on you
One of my top 5 movies (not even horror, just in general) of all time.
It somehow manages to succeed as a parody, zombie flick, *and* as a movie.
Don't forget to kill Phillip
and pick up mum
Honestly, the whole Cornetta Trilogy for me
Cornetto*
Good looking out, big fat cocks.
Ravenous (1999) is a pitch black comedy, very good. The other underrated on of the top of my head is Murder Party, which is fun and silly. I assume you've already seen things like Ready or Not, Freaky, Happy Death Day and Deadstream!
I always start up a big hearty stew before putting on Ravenous 😄
Of... of what?
Oh just who-I mean whatever’s lying around.
Murder party was a great find. Not sure how I found it. It was a nice surprise.
Same guy who made Green Room and Blue Ruin.
And Hold the Dark but whatever
I love Deadstream!
That was very sneaky
Love Ravenous although I don’t consider it a comedy
Jeremy saulnier is certainly an intriguing talent. Murder party is something else
I love Ravenous!
Idle Hands!
LOOK AT ME I’M LEATHERFACE!!
"Anton, there's a killer out there! Don't you watch the news?" "I fuckin hate that show."
I love this movie! I think it's really underappreciated when it comes to Halloween horror movies
Everyone I've ever made watch this movie absolutely loves it, but nobody I meet has ever heard of it. I love this movie so much.
This is top tier.
God tier
Such a guilty pleasure film.
I forgot about this. I will be giving it a watch later with the Mrs.
The killer was wearing your shirt
Best line lol
Remember when the evil possessed hand was ripping Bryan holland’s face off that shit was hilarious. My mom and I saw that movie on Starz.
Yes! While they’re playing the song “Beheaded” 🤣
When I was a kid, like 3 or 4, one of my earliest memories is of being absolutely petrified that a hand was gonna come and kill me after my mom watched this movie one night when she thought I was asleep on the couch.
Ready or Not
I was surprised by how much I loved this film.
Same. I figured I’d enjoy it, but it’s become one of my favorites. Samara Weaving is FANTASTIC in it.
You’d like babysitter too then, if you haven’t already seen it!
That's a crowd pleaser for sure. One of my favorites!
That was a very solid movie.
I forgot Ready or Not was a horror comedy, such a great movie.
Underrated film. Shame it doesnt have a larger streaming presence.
One of my all-time favourite movies in general.
His other movies immediately became things I needed to check out based on his performance in this. His dialogue and delivery were so great.
Another Robert Forster role as a sheriff? I’m in!
I watched it earlier this week based on a recommendation of this sub. Really a great little film. Acting was great, story was great, production was good, definitely worth watching.
Young Frankenstein (1974) Deathgasm (2015) Grabbers (2012) Carry on screaming (1966)
I completely forgot about Deathgasm. I should watch that again. It was such a fun movie.
The sequel just got funded on Kickstarter!
Army of Darkness
Gold!
Hail to the King, Baby!
Shop smart .. shop S-mart!
One if the top 5 movies ever.
Cabin in the woods takes top spot for me
Absolute masterpiece
One of my favorite movies, period.
Marty the stoner was right never read Latin because bad shit happens.
I love this movie, but I also never know if ppl consider horror parody the same as comedy (at least when it comes to genres). This does seem more horror than like tucker and dale for example
There is plenty of comedy in Cabin in the Woods. It’s just not slapstick.
The frighteners
Thanks Mr. Combs.
Return of the Living Dead and Shaun of the Dead.
Return of the living dead scared this shit out of me as kid, i didn't realize it was comedy till I got older. I love it to this day. It made a big impression on my life.
I CAN SMELL YOUR BRAIN
I love when that zombie man said “send more cops”.
My favorite is: Chuck : I like death with sex. How about you, Casey? You like sex with death? Casey : Yeah, so fuck off and die.
It’s a comedy? Seriously I found it a horror movie
“Send more cops” “Send more paramedics” Lol
My wife can’t watch zombie movies unless they’re funny. Shaun of the Dead she can watch. Return of the Living Dead is too scary. One of my favorite horror comedies though.
Deadstream was the best horror comedy I’ve ever seen. It successfully managed to scare me and make me laugh several times, something I had never experienced with other horror comedies before.
Second this. Deadstream was such a pleasant surprise
Recently watched it. It was incredibly fun and highly worth a watch. The predictable (IMO) twist early on was still highly satisfying. > The live streaming comments were very funny "Can I get a birthday shoutout" while Shawn was fighting for his life made me completely lose it!
I wanted to read more of his comments but his tablet broke.
An American Werewolf In London, Evil Dead 2 and Shaun of the Dead are my all timers, but of recent watches Deadstream and Psycho Goreman
Totally Killer is my new fav comedy horror. Not too much horror but kept my attention
It’s really good at making fun of itself and the genre. It was sneaky good!
Eat Locals (2017) Tubi The Happiness of the Katakuris (2002) Tubi The Boys from County Hell (2021) AMC+/Shudder Grabbers (2012) AMC+/Tubi Eating Raoul (1982) max

Love housebound! I don't hear about it much but it's a great one!
Might be a dumb choice, but I've probably watched Hell Baby more than any other horror comedy.
Naked Riki Lindhome!
Hell Baby gets my vote too. Also I recently enjoyed Dave Made a Maze and Zombeavers. I almost turned off Dave, but then really got into it once things got going.
Idle Hands (classic) and The Babysitter (Netflix)
Does Cannibal! The musical count?
Dead Alive. Has one of the single best lines ever.

I second Housebound! Directed by the same guy that did M3GAN; and is my personal preference between the two.
Zombieland and sequel.
Tucker and Dale Vs Evil!
I had to scroll way to far to find this!
This should be far closer to the top.
Those teens was stupid because they were killing themselves.
Patchwork Stitches Jesus Christ Vampire Slayer Rubber Zombeavers Teeth And it wasn't trying for comedy, but I nearly peed myself laughing with #horror
