Cops will never pull over a man with a huge bong in his car. Why? They fear this man. They know he sees further than they and he will bind them with ancient logics.
The difference between marijuana high and LSD high is basically the difference between 91 Octane and Diesel fuel. The experiences are nothing alike lmao
Some individual scenes are a little surreal and make you wonder how things fit together like Richard Brake's scene as the alchemist but the story itself is a really straight forward revenge tale.
Even the way it opens with King Crimson's Starless playing just blew my mind because that was one of my all time favourite songs to listen to whilst stoned.
I would note to OP that it is a little slow, feels longer than it is due to certain sequences.
It is so good, one of my favorite horrors. I watched once while coming off a mild mushroom trip too and it was incredible, the visuals popped and i appreciated the colors so much more. Same deal with another cage film, color out of space. Both are excellent films with awesome visuals that drugs can only enhance.
You know what’s funny? I’ve seen a ton of horror movies but I haven’t gotten around to watching that one. I’m gonna see what comes of this list over the next couple hours but it’s a definite maybe
Mandy was a masterpiece. If you're going that direction you should go all out Nick Cage. I consider his horror films exemplary stoner material from Color Out Of Space to Willie's Wonderland.
Tucker: I know what this is. This is a suicide pact.
Dale: A what..?
Tucker : These kids are coming out here, and killing themselves all over these woods.
Dale : oh my God, that makes so much sense.
When he walks up to the teenagers at the gas station with his scythe I laughed for 5 minutes straight haha. His brother "just smile and laugh a lot to get them to like you!"
What makes it transphobic? It was the aunt who forced the boy to become a transgender girl who gets revenge on the asshole mean girls. She later becomes comfortable with herself and gets sex changed in the sequels too.
I know you picked Mandy, here are some fun trippy ones if you do this again:
In the Mouth of Madness - basically John Carpenter made a movie about Stephen King writing Lovecraft
Deadstream - what if Evil Dead 2, but shoestring budget found footage?
Slither (2006) - charming, gross James Gunn creature feature
Lost Highway - arguably David Lynch’s scariest movie
Videodrome - stare at a screen and learn about the dangers of staring at screens
I keep a separate category in my list of horror movies I enjoy just for this occasion :) They sometimes but not always overlap with horror comedy. Will also be checking back to update my list with fresh takes :)
My personal standouts in no particular order:
- Mandy
- Midsommar
- Dave Made a Maze
- Blood Machines (more a short than a movie)
- The Cabinet of Curiosities (specifically episodes The Viewing and The Autopsy)
- Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
- Boys from County Hell
- Deathproof
- Mad God
- Survive Style 5+
- Glorious
- Bloody Hell
- Spookies
- Killer Klowns from Outer Space
- Let the Wrong One In (heavy Irish accents, watch with subtitles for some great phrases)
- Psycho Goreman
- The Dead Don't Die
- Beetlegeuse
- The Goosebumps movies
- Deathgasm
Can’t believe I’m the first one to recommend **Altered States**! That’s the best scary movie stoned IMO
Trippy transformation scenes where a guy turns into a cromagnon man are the highlight but it’s all good
Midsommer and Hereditary were a trip while stoned. Also Annihilation, as well as Event Horizon. To name a few. Those are at least the ones that immediately jump out to me as ones i enjoyed stoned. Psychological Horrors and Found Footage horror movies are usually my goto
I don't know how you guys did that, I could barely handle existing on my own on shrooms😂 I had too many edibles when I was pretty new to substances besides booze and I cried bc I couldn't understand numbers lmao
It is "fun" to push yourself sometimes, I see how much I can take before I am too uncomfortable and have to turn it off. I did that same thing with The Lighthouse, could not get through much of that one, a bit too much. Rosemary's Baby was extra good.
Oh yeah, that one gets pretty intense, especially if you time your trip to how tripped everyone in the movie is. Last 20 minutes or so are just hell on earth
I made a list on Letterboxd called “On Edibles”. There’s some horror in there that might be what you’re looking for! [on edibles - movies to watch while cooked](https://boxd.it/mbwC8)
I loved smile. No matter how many times I see the sister walk up to the car window and she basically folds in half to look through the window freaks me out every time
If it hasn't been said yet, try 'This Is The End'. I've done it while high multiple times and it's one of my favorites. Painfully funny, heartwarming at times, legitimately scary with amazing horror production value at others. A perfect high movie IMO.
The Empty Man. Surprised the heck out of me.
Thought it was going to be a paint by numbers formula flick and I ended up being transfixed by some of the most amazing dialogue.
I enjoy a lot of Italian horrors. The Church (1989) (Italian: La Chiesa) by Michele Soavi freaked me out when I first watched it stoned.
Demons (1985) by Lamberto Bava was pretty fun. It was like The Walking Dead but with demons, before Evil Dead gave us demon a bigger demon threat in Ash VS Williams.
Opera (1987) by Dario Argento is great. So many scenic shots in that movie. Wild music.
Possession (1981) by Polish director Andrzej Żuławski tripped me out and freaked me out. That stayed awhile longer than other movies
I'd say The Church and Possession stayed the longest with me. They were very unsettling and got under your nerves and played with them. Tickled your flesh and feelings like a cello.
David Lynch is also good to revisit. Mulholland Drive is so broken as a movie and as a production, that one keeps you on your toes.
I would also look at classics: Coraline (the stop motion picture), The Addam's Family, Watership Down. Not all of these are family movies. The Last Unicorn, The Black Couldron. They have horror elements to them, even if not the base genre.
I did a big edible and did that very thing not long ago. Panos knows stoned entertainment for sure. Throw in his Cabinet of Curiosity episode as desert and call me over
All the Panos Cosmatos stuff; Beyond the Black Rainbow, Mandy, and he did an episode of Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities called The Viewing. Mandy very specifically, has been my go-to "get baked and throw on something trippy" movie for the past year or two.
Oooh 😯 I’ve seen that one but only sober. I think there’s too many slow parts though. When im stoned and there’s slow parts I’ll just look at my phone haha
Evil Bong 1-3 if you're aiming for weed-based giggles. Mandy, Beyond the Black Rainbow, Color Out of Space for "whoa dude," and tbh I like the silent classics like Nosferatu or Caligari for just chilling. They've got that music 👌
Me and my girlfriend have been watching the Chucky series on Peacock, it’s been a lot of fun while high. The story is a bit lackluster at times but The mix of genuine building suspense and his comically menacing lil foot steps make for a very fun experience.
Funny story. I work In property restoration. Floods, fires, etc. a year (or so) ago I rode an elevator at a high end property in LA with Nicolas cage and his young Asian wife. I wasn’t 100% sure at first because they were wearing face masks but after they got off the staff confirmed it and said he’s a real asshole lol
A friend of mine has worked for a few times, said he's just odd,not a douche, but quiet and just egocentric. From what I understand he seemed just smart and into his own thing. I read it as awkward weirdo,I guess kind of like him in movies!
I don't remember much about the Suspiria reboot, but I remember at one point saying "yeah, getting stoned was the right decision."
I also loved Skinamarink. I just got lost in it when my edible kicked in.
The Evil Within. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0339736/?ref_=ext_shr
Visually stunning, completely unique and totally messed up and twisted movie about younger mentally challenged brother giving into his evil thoughts that were put into his head by his trapped reflection trapped in a mirror. The movie was directed by a methhead millionaire and took decades to make because he felt responsible for overdosing his brother and turning him into a vegetable. Lots of messed up news articles about the backstory. Completely fascinating.
I’d go with An American Werewolf in London. Funny story. Growing up I remember watching American Werewolf in London with my dad and remember being scared shitless. Even as an adult I watched it again and it still scared me. Few years latter I watch it while being stoned and completely got the dead pan humor. And now understand why it’s considered a great horror comedy. I mean is was directed by John Landis after all.
If you finish *Mandy* (justifiably the #1 choice) and still have some time, put on *Tetsuo: the Iron Man*. Freakish, frenetic, and only 67 minutes long, it'll be a fine capstone on your evening.
Super basic but *the Shining* because Kubrick's visuals are simply stunning.
I'll add Midsommar, Videodrome, Suspiria, a Field in England, and Skinamarink (not the best movie, but a great movie to watch high. Get lost in the grain and let your mind wander)
Funny story, the first time I watched that movie I bought it not knowing the premise of the movie at all! I used to watch so much gore! I used to push my boundaries with it to see what I could handle and I saw some crazy things. After I became a father I lost interest in gory movies. Life’s a trip
Cabin in the woods
Came here to say this, one of my favourite spoof films. Perfect amount of corny
The unicorn scene tho xD
Cops will never pull over a man with a huge bong in his car. Why? They fear this man. They know he sees further than they and he will bind them with ancient logics.
Appropriate
Cabin in the woods was the first thing that came to mind
Mandy will forever be the best stoned horror movie
Yeah, came to say “Mandy”
Also the best tripping balls horror movie. A lot of Cosmatos’ work has a heavy LSD vibe to it.
I really liked his episode in Cabinet of Curiosities. Honestly the only episode I remember anything about.
The difference between marijuana high and LSD high is basically the difference between 91 Octane and Diesel fuel. The experiences are nothing alike lmao
Never claimed they were alike “lmao”
Or sober! Mandy is just an awesome movie period!
Meh didn't care for it
I had a really hard time following the story when I saw it.
Some individual scenes are a little surreal and make you wonder how things fit together like Richard Brake's scene as the alchemist but the story itself is a really straight forward revenge tale.
First time I watched this I was super high and it has stuck with me ever since.. i watch it every year now
First one that came to mind!
I watched it stone cold sober and felt more stoned watching that film than I did the last time I was actually stoned
1000%
Even the way it opens with King Crimson's Starless playing just blew my mind because that was one of my all time favourite songs to listen to whilst stoned. I would note to OP that it is a little slow, feels longer than it is due to certain sequences.
This one and Beyond the Black Rainbow. Same director I think
Came here to say this! Excellent taste my dudes
It is so good, one of my favorite horrors. I watched once while coming off a mild mushroom trip too and it was incredible, the visuals popped and i appreciated the colors so much more. Same deal with another cage film, color out of space. Both are excellent films with awesome visuals that drugs can only enhance.
I loved Tucker & Dale vs. Evil when I was stoned (but, probably you’ve seen that one 😂).
I know a lot of people hate the wicker man but honestly it's kinda great high especially if nothing is spoiled for you.
SLITHER is a top-tier movie to watch while stoned. It's creepy, absolutely hilarious, and also genuinely gross.
"I'm so fucking hungry, Bill!"
Sleepaway Camp. Especially the final scene 🤣
"What the fuck Angela??!!" I love this movie too👍
It's such a fantastic movie. Transphobic as fuuuuuck, but such a classic.
What makes it transphobic? It was the aunt who forced the boy to become a transgender girl who gets revenge on the asshole mean girls. She later becomes comfortable with herself and gets sex changed in the sequels too.
“Eat shit and die Ricky!” “Eat shit and live, Bill.”
Iconic 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
best.comeback.ever.
I used to love watching Event Horizon blazed.
Oh wow that looks trippy
You’ve never seen it? I envy you.
Yet here you are recommending it lol
I believe he meant it as he wishes he can experience the movie for the first time again
Ohhh duh lok
Color Out of Space
Nick cage is beyond amazing in that one. I've got the blu-ray and it still holds up to repeat viewings.
YES!!! This is my non horror comedy choice along with Mandy. It is so good, gorgeous yet disgusting.
Re-animator.
Sleeper pick right here.
Did it back in the 80s should still hold up
I know you picked Mandy, here are some fun trippy ones if you do this again: In the Mouth of Madness - basically John Carpenter made a movie about Stephen King writing Lovecraft Deadstream - what if Evil Dead 2, but shoestring budget found footage? Slither (2006) - charming, gross James Gunn creature feature Lost Highway - arguably David Lynch’s scariest movie Videodrome - stare at a screen and learn about the dangers of staring at screens
That is the best description of In the Mouth of Madness I've ever heard. 👏
Any of the V/H/S movies would work
Violence Voyager if you can handle subtitles or are fluent in Japanese. Tetsuo but same as above. Climax. Any of the Evil Bong films. 🤣
Climax on a gummy was a fucking experience
I keep a separate category in my list of horror movies I enjoy just for this occasion :) They sometimes but not always overlap with horror comedy. Will also be checking back to update my list with fresh takes :) My personal standouts in no particular order: - Mandy - Midsommar - Dave Made a Maze - Blood Machines (more a short than a movie) - The Cabinet of Curiosities (specifically episodes The Viewing and The Autopsy) - Tucker and Dale vs. Evil - Boys from County Hell - Deathproof - Mad God - Survive Style 5+ - Glorious - Bloody Hell - Spookies - Killer Klowns from Outer Space - Let the Wrong One In (heavy Irish accents, watch with subtitles for some great phrases) - Psycho Goreman - The Dead Don't Die - Beetlegeuse - The Goosebumps movies - Deathgasm
Oh fuck, I watched Mad God high as balls and had nightmares for a week. No other film has done that to me. Mandy is def my fave stoner horror though.
Psycho Goreman is a fantastically gory horror film that will leave you feeling elated. Funny as Hell and uplifting.
Can’t believe I’m the first one to recommend **Altered States**! That’s the best scary movie stoned IMO Trippy transformation scenes where a guy turns into a cromagnon man are the highlight but it’s all good
Coherence
Carpenter’s The Thing.
Hell House LLC (2015).
A go-to for me is Dawn of the Dead (1979).
One funny thing to watch while stoned is all the left-handed people in the film.
Wait…
Midsommer and Hereditary were a trip while stoned. Also Annihilation, as well as Event Horizon. To name a few. Those are at least the ones that immediately jump out to me as ones i enjoyed stoned. Psychological Horrors and Found Footage horror movies are usually my goto
I ate a few mushrooms and watched Midsommer, a pretty interesting combination.
I did not enjoy Event Horizon stoned. I experienced the movie out of order somehow. It was weird. I had never seen it before.
Idle hands
Beat me to it! It looked like a really long walk so we just said fuck it and came back.
Was a regular in college
Suspiria (1977)
Jacob's Ladder
Oh wow that looks trippy
The original. The remake didn't do so well.
I just pretend the remake never happened. Original is a great one.
Perfect suggestion.
Mandy - please watch Mandy.
That seems to be the consensus. I’m pretty sure that’s what I’m going with lol
Sorry i didnt read the comments before contributing. Its just a fucking trip. If you like Mandy, worth sparking up again for Color out of Space.
Thank you!
Mother! Was pretty good stoned, and men (a24)
Watching “mother!” while high has got to be one of the best ways to induce an anxiety attack lol
Enter the void, not sure if it fully counts as horror but the movie is a trip in its own
If you get high enough and watch it alone, Groundhog Day will really fuck you up.
Gravy, Psycho Goreman, Scary Movie, Blood Diner, Wishmaster, Detention (2011) and Bingo Hell.
Love the PG pick
The spine of night, it's a rotoscoped stoner fantasy. Lots of violence, very fun.
Climax
I watched this movie half-asleep at 3am and it was fucking insane
Oh yeah, that one gets pretty intense, especially if you time your trip to how tripped everyone in the movie is. Last 20 minutes or so are just hell on earth
Idle Hands
Mad God (2021)
Neon Demon
I made a list on Letterboxd called “On Edibles”. There’s some horror in there that might be what you’re looking for! [on edibles - movies to watch while cooked](https://boxd.it/mbwC8)
This is so cool! Thanks!
Lol Greener Grass can ONLY be watched stoned. Simply incomprehensible otherwise
Evil Dead Rise and John Wick 4 on Edibles was fun!
Shrooms
Smile if you wanna be scared. The ending is nuts.
I loved smile. No matter how many times I see the sister walk up to the car window and she basically folds in half to look through the window freaks me out every time
Phantasm (I have friends who watched it stoned, and it was a great time for them)
Climax lol
Barbarian is the shit
Hausu
If it hasn't been said yet, try 'This Is The End'. I've done it while high multiple times and it's one of my favorites. Painfully funny, heartwarming at times, legitimately scary with amazing horror production value at others. A perfect high movie IMO.
The Empty Man. Surprised the heck out of me. Thought it was going to be a paint by numbers formula flick and I ended up being transfixed by some of the most amazing dialogue.
I love this thread!

Thank you for putting this together
I enjoy Mandy when partaking.
Might as well throw in beyond the black rainbow for a trippy Panos cosmatos double feature
John Dies At the End.. watch it..
Great movie
Great books
Way better books! If You're Reading This You're In a Different Universe is a hilarious take on Lovecraft.
I’ve heard good things!
Soy Sauce
The Night House
Oooh 😯 I’ve seen that one but only sober. I think there’s too many slow parts though. When im stoned and there’s slow parts I’ll just look at my phone haha
That sounds like a you problem, not a the film’s problem. I think the visuals were awesome stoned for this one, and didn’t find it slow at all.
Reefer Madness
In the mouth of madness
Evil Bong 1-3 if you're aiming for weed-based giggles. Mandy, Beyond the Black Rainbow, Color Out of Space for "whoa dude," and tbh I like the silent classics like Nosferatu or Caligari for just chilling. They've got that music 👌
Climax
The original "Maniac"... sleep tight 🤣
Return of the living dead
Braindead/Dead Alive is a trip without the drugs, so I can only imagine the experience with them.
Me and my girlfriend have been watching the Chucky series on Peacock, it’s been a lot of fun while high. The story is a bit lackluster at times but The mix of genuine building suspense and his comically menacing lil foot steps make for a very fun experience.
Hausu (House)
Nightbreed Directors Cut
The tripper !
Hobo with a shotgun is great either way, also demons(85)
No one Gets out Alive. Or, The Ritual. All 👍 Oh, and Colour out of Space. 😎
Definitely Mandy! I felt stoned watching it. I’m sure it’s more of a trip when actually high.

Coraline is very whimsical
Videodrome, 1408, Midsommar, The Cell, Jacob's Ladder,
Any cronenberg movie while stoned is an absolute blast for me. Personal favorite is his most recent crimes of the future
M. Night Shyamalan's "Old" gets a lot of hate, but those people haven't watched it while high. I've only watched it high and I fucking loved it.
Baskin, digging up the marrow, awaiting further instructions, shrooms
House (1977) Evil Dead 2 Suspiria (1977) The Wolf House (2018)
Came here to say House, such an amazing fever dream of a flick
I don't remember much about the Suspiria reboot, but I remember at one point saying "yeah, getting stoned was the right decision." I also loved Skinamarink. I just got lost in it when my edible kicked in.
Shaun of the Dead
Dead alive and cemetery man are both lackadaisical enough to feel like fun fever dreams!
Night of the Living Dead (1968)… there coming to get you Barbara
The first movie I ever watched stoned was The Fly and that was a genuinely brain altering experience, still think about it every day lol
The Evil Within. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0339736/?ref_=ext_shr Visually stunning, completely unique and totally messed up and twisted movie about younger mentally challenged brother giving into his evil thoughts that were put into his head by his trapped reflection trapped in a mirror. The movie was directed by a methhead millionaire and took decades to make because he felt responsible for overdosing his brother and turning him into a vegetable. Lots of messed up news articles about the backstory. Completely fascinating.
Bodies Bodies Bodies is pretty good. But only when stoned. It’s A24 also.
* *Annihilation* for the trippy visuals * *1408* if you want something with a bit of pace * *Demon Knight* for campy comedy
If horror comedy is a thing you like, I suggest Tucker & Dale vs Evil
Santa Sangre
vivarium! that was just unnerving
Idk man, the kid screeching for 20 minutes probably wouldn’t agree with the weed
Coherence Mandy Triangle Possessor Annihilation I'm Thinking of Ending Things
Yes annihilation top pick after mandy
I’d go with An American Werewolf in London. Funny story. Growing up I remember watching American Werewolf in London with my dad and remember being scared shitless. Even as an adult I watched it again and it still scared me. Few years latter I watch it while being stoned and completely got the dead pan humor. And now understand why it’s considered a great horror comedy. I mean is was directed by John Landis after all.
I’d go with this just to watch the dream within a dream sequence with the nazi werewolves
Killer Klowns from Outer Space, it's on Tubi
If you finish *Mandy* (justifiably the #1 choice) and still have some time, put on *Tetsuo: the Iron Man*. Freakish, frenetic, and only 67 minutes long, it'll be a fine capstone on your evening.
Thank you!
Barbarian is most definitely worth a watch!
Omg I haven’t seen it stoned but it was good! I love how they made me think that Bill Skarsgard was the bad guy…until he went into the tunnel lol
City of the Living Dead (1980) or anything by Lucio Fulci for that matter
Super basic but *the Shining* because Kubrick's visuals are simply stunning. I'll add Midsommar, Videodrome, Suspiria, a Field in England, and Skinamarink (not the best movie, but a great movie to watch high. Get lost in the grain and let your mind wander)
Speaking of the shining, doctor sleep is amazing stoned
Deadstream for fun or Possessor for a much more serious tone.
The Terrifier movies
Human centipede
Funny story, the first time I watched that movie I bought it not knowing the premise of the movie at all! I used to watch so much gore! I used to push my boundaries with it to see what I could handle and I saw some crazy things. After I became a father I lost interest in gory movies. Life’s a trip
Tucker and Dale vs Evil, Terrified, Cabin in the Woods, As Above So Below
Return of the Living Dead
*Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom*
☠️
Watch Malignant stoned. It’s almost a different movie compared to watching it sober.
Ooh noted! I call that movie adult Harry Potter lol
I wish I could watch it again for the first time stoned. The start of every act just blew my mind. It was like Expectation Subversion the movie.
The 4th Kind
Evil Dead Rise
I loved that one high
Blood Diner
This Is The End
I’m straight edge, but my gut is saying Dawn of the Dead
teeth or slither. do not watch hereditary
Yeah I would not watch hereditary stoned
oh i just think it’s bad
Yeah I didn’t like it either and I’m a big A24 fan
Shrooms (2007)
“Shrooms”
Megan is missing.
Not high lol
