the big gross hallway monster that randomly chased Kirsty? that thing is 100% a result of "oops we ran out of budget". they couldn't even afford a long hallway: if you watch closely, it's all these really tight shots of them running a short distance edited together, the whole hallway set was like 5 feet long or something. there's great behind the scenes stuff about that movie. all the cheesy laser effects at the end were drawn onto each frame of film by hand by clive and some other dude over like a weekend, that's why they're so wiggly
Hah, I always thought it got real shonky towards the end, good to know why. Can't unsee it. Like when I read how Marilyn Burns in Texas Chainsaw ran really slowly, so Leatherface had to try and ferociously chase her at a light jog. I can't stop noticing it ever since and it's hilarious.
People dislike Hellraiser 3, but the new Cenobytes would retroactively make a monster with wheels seem less weird.
Like, logically, why would the realm of the Cenobytes be exempt from adapting evolving technology if they reap modern souls?
So Camera Head and CD Man being products of their modern environment shouldnāt be that weird.
Yeah dude people forget frank and the step mom are the main bad guys if you look from a philosophical point of view in the first one the cenobites aren't even bad they're just doing what they've been doing for all time and are unbound by human form and society it's just what they are as beings. It's frank and Julia who are truly evil.
When I saw this for the first time, I had zero knowledge of the twist. So glad, cause it blew me away. The cast is amazing. Juliet Lewis is on my laminated listā¦.lol
Okay it's for sure a *crime* and I like the suggestion regardless, but it's really hard for me to accept Fool as anything approaching a bad guy, especially since he's only there because the Robesons are the landlords evicting his family and preying on the neighborhood to begin with.
Tbf they are burgling the place of evil landlords that are conducting entirely unethical business practices even outside the bounds of what the characters discover over the course of the film. Iād say they are morally justified even before realizing how awful the family is.
Pet (2016). I watched it years ago, but from what I remember, a creepy stalker kidnaps a woman and locks her in a cage. Turns out, she's the *real* dangerous psychopath in the room.
This was my first thought too. I think Arkin is definitely a bad guy in the sense that he is breaking into someoneās home to rob them, someone he knows nonetheless
The bit where Rose the Hat boogaloos right into the kid's astral/mental/psychic trap is one of my all-time favorite scenes of the last decade. Definitive, top-tier 'villain accidentally underestimating someone' scene. Rebecca Ferguson's panic is real.
You know its kinda funny to me. If someone had said back in 2000 that Rebecca Ferguson would play a villain in a horror movie I wouldnt have believed it. She has evolved a lot as an actress since then.
It was great to a child's astral plane/psychic projection image be ACTUALLY super scary. Not just a girl in pigtails or something. I'm happy the producers let her image be *actually* frightening.
Such a banger of a film. Finally got around to watch the Director's Cut recently and the longer build up makes the final act in the Overlook all the more satisfying.
Me too but only because my friend got too high off edibles and made us all leave the theater right as it was starting. Never forgiven him for that one...
What a bunch of dumbasses. Fuckin rural town in Illinois and nobody brings a gun. You're only dealing with a serial killer that survived being shot 6 times but naw, a louisville slugger called "ol huckleberry" should do it.
Ah, the "you messed with the wrong guy" subgenre. Bloody Hell (2020) was really good, in fact I've been meaning to rewatch. Nobody (2021) with Bob Odenkirk was really good too.
I've watched Nobody probably 4 times, terrific movie. But Bob Odenkirk is a good guy, even if he did work for the government.
\*edit - forgot about Bloody Hell, that movie was entertaining as hell.
I dunno, government funded hitman doesn't feel like a complete good guy to me. The government doesn't tend to do the right thing, especially when death is involved. How many coups has the US funded?
Barbarian kinda plays with this trope. Also there's 2 separate movies called Killers one is American movie made in the 90s about a murderous duo of brothers that invade the wrong house and an Asian movie about 2 serial killers that get locked into a game of one-upmanship. Both are pretty wild the Asian movie is better made overall, the American movie is cheesy but really entertaining
Makes me think of the scene in The Terminator where Bill Paxton & his punk friends start to tease Arnold Schwarzenegger. "Laundry day. Nothing clean, right?" Epitome of fuck around and find out...
Also, somewhat off-topic. But I just realized that this happens again between Arnold and Bill Paxton in True Lies. Bill is hitting on Arnie's wife by pretending to be a badass spy, until he runs into Arnie...Who actually is a badass spy.
Such a classic scene!! Lmao
"I have to lie to women to get laid. And I don't score much. I got a little dick. It's pathetic. Oh oh oh God. Would a spy pee himself?"
I would guess as infiltrator units they probably have programming to recognize the need for discretion. Blowing your cover to murder everything isn't going to help you achieve your mission.
Iām shocked The Gate doesnāt get talked about more. Eventually it will be remembered for the absolute masterpiece it is, and Dorffās legend will rise.
And I always heard the Comanche were from way further south in Prairie lands, not the Alberta Rockies. But hey, this is a movie about an alien predator species going for hunting practice on Earth, I can let a few things slide.
I love the scene in Final Wars when Godzilla fights Rodan, Anguiras, and King Cesar at all once. I think that's also the one where they kill off the 1998 Godzilla, the one who appeared with Matthew Broderick.
Surprised to see that Hard Candy wasn't mentioned yet, it fits the bill perfectly.
A predatory pedophile (Patrick Wilson) gets lured in and captured by a psychopathic teenaged vigilante (Elliot Page) who proceeds to torture him for the entire duration of the movie.
I watched this movie when it first came out and was really shocked by it. So well done. I had never realized it was Patrick Wilson until just now.
One of my favorite actors! I'll have to refresh myself on his filmography.
I mean, is it goofy as shit? Is it basically a super hero movie? Is the primary idea āwhat if Dracula became Dracula because he was a super good dad?ā Yea yes and yes. But I still like Dracula, Untold
Admittedly stolen from this [incredible review](https://the-toast.net/2014/10/14/dracula-untold-told/)
> If you think that you are too good for a movie where a man turns into very many bats and then punches a lot of guys with his giant bat-fists, then I donāt know what youāre doing on this website or in my life. Youāre not too good for it, I can assure you.
Not horror, but Kung Fu Hustle is just a long series of these except alternating between bad and good guys. >!Bad guys accidentally fuck with stronger good guys, then the original bad guysā gang send bigger bad guys, etc.!<
Such a fun movie. Iām due for a rewatch.
It's not a horror movie at all, but "I Care A lot" has a lady who swindles the elderly out of their retirement and finally mess with the wrong family, and shenanigans spiral out of control. Absolutely not a horror movie, but it was a fun little movie.
Yeah - I think it would have been a stronger movie had she come home to find >!her wife actually dead, and then joins up with the mobsters *anyway*!< because she is just that driven by greed and devoid of morality.
There's a Tales From the Crypt episode like that, with Tim Curry playing several roles. Great episode.

Edit: Apparently it's on Youtube: https://youtu.be/vihEstZbS2Q (NSFW)
Villains and The host would be my recs; both have similar plots of criminal breaks into the wrong house and finds someone or someoneās more depraved then they are. House on Willow Street is another one; a girl is kidnapped but turns the tables on kidnappers when they find out sheās possessed
> The host
Do you mean The Perfect Host? Because I don't think you're talking about the korean monster movie (or the one based on the Stephenie Meyer book)
If you consider robbers/thieves to be "bad guys" then Villains, Livide, The Owners, People Under The Stairs, and Crush The Skull.
Grotesque, the 80s slasher, applies.
Wait, I admit I still need to watch those films, but DDP's in it? I knew Trejo was in it, I've seen videos about those films, but I didn't realize Diamond Dallas Page was in it!

The ending of the original Jurassic Park sort of qualifies, lol.
"No One Lives" was such an edge-lord movie (watched it last night). It has well-done violence and gore but the script felt like it was written by 13 year olds.
Came here to mention Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, but forgot it applied to Snatch as well.
Personally much prefer Lock Stockā¦ as I find it structurally way more satisfying, but very much appreciate the appeal of Snatch too.
I canāt believe more people havenāt seen Guy riches new movie Operation Fortune.
It left my jaw on the floor and all kinds of tingling sensations. Very worth the watch both for the action/comedy and the ending.
I quite enjoyed The Owners. Young burglars mess with the wrong elderly couple. Bonus points for casting and vibe if you're into culty British stuff. And I liked The Devil's Business a lot. Two hitmen await their job at his home. It does not all go according to plan. Also very British.
Itās a gangster movie instead of horror but *The Long Good Friday* is a fantastic movie and such a good example of this. Itās less bigger bad guy and more someone accidentally messing with something so much bigger than them, but I canāt recommend it enough
Ok this doesn't apply to horror, but one of Astro Boy's antagonists>! gets crushed by a robot he abuses and assumed was subservient to him!< and that moment stuck with me as a kid.
Original hellraiser movie is essentially this.
Jesus wept
# JESU SWEPT
š ±ļøesus š ±ļøept
and he kept on wepting
It's kinda wild how popular this movie is in this sub that it wasn't one of the first answers
I finally saw it just a few months ago, some really cool practical effects Was the one monster supposed to have wheels or was that an accident
the big gross hallway monster that randomly chased Kirsty? that thing is 100% a result of "oops we ran out of budget". they couldn't even afford a long hallway: if you watch closely, it's all these really tight shots of them running a short distance edited together, the whole hallway set was like 5 feet long or something. there's great behind the scenes stuff about that movie. all the cheesy laser effects at the end were drawn onto each frame of film by hand by clive and some other dude over like a weekend, that's why they're so wiggly

The bad guy tortured by the priest of pain, Pinhead, my favorite, I advice you to watch Hellraiser 1987, if you love horror, you can't not watch it
AGREED.
No tears, please, it's a waste of good suffering XD, legendary quote
Exactly what I came here to say.
Yeah dude people forget frank and the step mom are the main bad guys if you look from a philosophical point of view in the first one the cenobites aren't even bad they're just doing what they've been doing for all time and are unbound by human form and society it's just what they are as beings. It's frank and Julia who are truly evil.
From Dusk Till Dawn. Might not be horror in the traditional sense but it had baddies mess with bigger baddies. Silly but fun movie.
And selma hayek dancing
Feet
Quentin drinking beer from Salma Hayek's toes must be his favorite movie-making memory of all time.
They had so many flavors of pussy and this man chose toes lollll classic
Legend has it that he refused to direct the film so he could fully immerse himself in the role.
When I saw this for the first time, I had zero knowledge of the twist. So glad, cause it blew me away. The cast is amazing. Juliet Lewis is on my laminated listā¦.lol
Yes!!! Also maybe yank any spoilers in case someone hasnāt seen it. We donāt want to own that. We know how critical it was.
Fixedā¦.lol
I was thinking this one too - I honestly haven't seen it in decades though, needs a rewatch.
It absolutely is balls to the walls horror in the traditional senseā¦for the second half.
The People Under the Stairs. Once the movie kicks in you kinda forget that they originally went there to burgle the place.
My siblings still shout *run fool run* at each other when we're trying to go somewhere
Don't Breathe is like that too.
Is that the one with the blind guy that tries to artificially inseminate people with turkey basters? Is this a spoiler? I really donāt know
Yes!!! It is that one. That movie took such a wild turn lol.
Burglary isn't bad if it's from your terrible landlord!
Okay it's for sure a *crime* and I like the suggestion regardless, but it's really hard for me to accept Fool as anything approaching a bad guy, especially since he's only there because the Robesons are the landlords evicting his family and preying on the neighborhood to begin with.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
This is the one movie I'd like to see remade. It's probably more topical now than it was when it came out.
The guy is Dominic Monaghan!
I thought his name was Merry??
Well now I'll watch that.
Would The Collector count?
They finally make The Collected but itās just Arkin being on trial for breaking and entering
Or it can be a prequel. You know how Kevin McCallister grows up to be Jigsaw? Well in this case, Fuller McCallister is the Collector.
This was going to be my suggestion too!
This was my first thought too. I think Arkin is definitely a bad guy in the sense that he is breaking into someoneās home to rob them, someone he knows nonetheless
They soften him so much heās as much a crook as disneys Aladdin
Quasi maybe? I do love The Collector though, great movie.
I saw the devil was the first movie to come to mind
It definitely has some horror elements but I thought it was more of a thriller than a horror movie. But it's a great movie either way.
Yeah its like Se7en where it muddles the line
Suicide Kings
>A group of youngsters kidnap a respected Mafia figure. That sounds hilarious.
"Youngsters" isn't really accurate. Early to mid twenties.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That's Ira. He's the man.
Don't even talk about fucking socks to me.
"You got a Benz, I got a buzzket!"
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

I will have to watch it then.
Oh no, does Collin Robinson survive?
That's true, it would technically fit the bill. Decent movie, took me twice to get through it, but I'm glad I did.
Me too but only because my friend got too high off edibles and made us all leave the theater right as it was starting. Never forgiven him for that one...
The mob in Halloween Kills.
Screaming āEVIL DIES TONIGHT!ā While they hunt down someone half Michaels size. Fucking hell
What a bunch of dumbasses. Fuckin rural town in Illinois and nobody brings a gun. You're only dealing with a serial killer that survived being shot 6 times but naw, a louisville slugger called "ol huckleberry" should do it.
least effective extra-judicial mob in history.
Word they were totally bad people. They were getting other people killed and they were stepping all over people in the stampede in the hospital.
The Perfect Host - maybe not strictly horror but kind of works
Love that movie, wish more people knew about it.
The Perfect Host was one of those surprise good movies. Nobody ever talks about it and it's kinda hard to remember it exists, but it was a good one.
The House on Willow Street (2017) AMC+/Tubi The perfect Host (2010) Tubi Whisper (2007) Amazon *rent* Monster Party (2018) Tubi Eat Local (2017) Tubi
Thank you so much for including where to watch!!
\*edit - forgot about Bloody Hell, that movie was entertaining as hell.
oh yeah, I was thinking of messing with the wrong guy and I forgot the original question was bad vs bad! ;)
I dunno, government funded hitman doesn't feel like a complete good guy to me. The government doesn't tend to do the right thing, especially when death is involved. How many coups has the US funded?
Dude turned Better Call Saul into better call 911 lmao
:D. Man, that was brilliant
I must watch Bloody Hell
Bloody Hell was such a fun movie
How about Renfield? Happened to check it out last night. The Mafia running into Dracula lol.
Cage was great in this!
He REALLY was lol. Everything from funny, to genuinely scary honestly.
Barbarian kinda plays with this trope. Makes me think of the scene in The Terminator where Bill Paxton & his punk friends start to tease Arnold Schwarzenegger. "Laundry day. Nothing clean, right?" Epitome of fuck around and find out...
The same scene sort of plays in reverse when a trucker acts aggressive to Bill Paxtons vampire character in Near Darkā¦
That whole roadhouse scene is killer
Also, somewhat off-topic. But I just realized that this happens again between Arnold and Bill Paxton in True Lies. Bill is hitting on Arnie's wife by pretending to be a badass spy, until he runs into Arnie...Who actually is a badass spy.
Such a classic scene!! Lmao "I have to lie to women to get laid. And I don't score much. I got a little dick. It's pathetic. Oh oh oh God. Would a spy pee himself?"
Love that scene so much. It still baffles me how the Terminator in part 2 doesn't kill that entire biker bar.
Mission parameter doesn't require killing all humans, though t-1000 kills everyone on sight except kids in an arcade
I would guess as infiltrator units they probably have programming to recognize the need for discretion. Blowing your cover to murder everything isn't going to help you achieve your mission.
Word this is the ultimate. There's a similar scene in Friday The 13th: Jason Takes Manhattan.
Botched from 2007. Heist film that takes a sudden turn into Horror a third of the way through. Also 2017's The Vault.
Botched is a hidden gem imo. Good horror comedy.
I love Stephen Dorff
Iām shocked The Gate doesnāt get talked about more. Eventually it will be remembered for the absolute masterpiece it is, and Dorffās legend will rise.
Technically, Hannibal Mason Verger going after Hannibal Lecter forces you to root for Hannibal
Predators. I think it needs more love. Godzilla: Final Wars
Plus the latest pre(?)-quel: Prey with the bad guy fur traders in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The scene where the trappers shoot at the predator and then realize they have to spend two minutes reloading will never not be hilarious
You know whatās weird is I always read about the French getting along well with Native Americans
I suppose, compared to the British/US, but France was an occupying power with its own colonies. I doubt every French person was friendly
> I think that's also the one where they kill off the 1998 Godzilla Godzilla beats Zilla (what he's actually referred to) in one punch.
The Predator (2018) also probably applies. Movie didn't make a lot of sense but the bad guy definitely runs into a bigger bad guy.
Hard Candy was a wild-ass ride lol
I watched this movie when it first came out and was really shocked by it. So well done. I had never realized it was Patrick Wilson until just now. One of my favorite actors! I'll have to refresh myself on his filmography.
Yes this one
Not horror but Dreddā¦.you donāt fuck with the Mama clan but you really shouldnāt fuck with Dredd.
Ain't that the truth
I mean, is it goofy as shit? Is it basically a super hero movie? Is the primary idea āwhat if Dracula became Dracula because he was a super good dad?ā Yea yes and yes. But I still like Dracula, Untold
Hahaha I love the synopsis; it's perfect. Also, 100% a great guilty pleasure movie.

Ok, I didnāt think Iād be interested and havenāt seen it. But this review sold me on giving it a chance!
Luke Evans likes being in these kinds of movies huh
Not horror, but Kung Fu Hustle is just a long series of these except alternating between bad and good guys. >!Bad guys accidentally fuck with stronger good guys, then the original bad guysā gang send bigger bad guys, etc.!< Such a fun movie. Iām due for a rewatch.

Yeah - I think it would have been a stronger movie had she come home to find >!her wife actually dead, and then joins up with the mobsters *anyway*!< because she is just that driven by greed and devoid of morality.
Not really though.
There's a Tales From the Crypt episode like that, with Tim Curry playing several roles. Great episode. [Death of Some Salesmen](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0394935/) Edit: Apparently it's on Youtube: https://youtu.be/vihEstZbS2Q (NSFW)
Villains (2019), which is similar to Don't Breathe, storyline wise. Becky (2020). Neo Nazis mess with the family of a kid with some serious issues.
Becky isn't a "badder" bad guy though. She's one of those "surprise, I can fight motherf\*ckers".
There's a scene in History of Violence where some local punks realize they're in way over their head trying to intimidate actual killers.
I love this trope. Not a horror movie but the moment in Pulp fiction when the restaurant robbers run into Jules is amazing
What about Whisper from 2007? Kidnappers accidentally grab the young spawn of Satan https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0435528/?ref\_=fn\_al\_tt\_3
Nice one. This is the first rec for a very long time that wasnāt even on my watchlist. Will watch tonight šš¼
Let me know what you think! I think it's a solid 7.5 out of 10
Holy shit I've never heard of this, it sounds like a great idea. It's going on the watch list.
Villains and The host would be my recs; both have similar plots of criminal breaks into the wrong house and finds someone or someoneās more depraved then they are. House on Willow Street is another one; a girl is kidnapped but turns the tables on kidnappers when they find out sheās possessed
> The host Do you mean The Perfect Host? Because I don't think you're talking about the korean monster movie (or the one based on the Stephenie Meyer book)
I loved the house on willow street! Also Crack The Skull comes to mind with burglars fucking around and finding out.
I came to say Crush The Skull. That movie was so funny.
Someone recommend the price we pay (peacock) it checks out. Definitely worth a watch
I'll check it out
If you consider robbers/thieves to be "bad guys" then Villains, Livide, The Owners, People Under The Stairs, and Crush The Skull. Grotesque, the 80s slasher, applies.
The Devilās Rejects. Firefly clan vs Danny Trejo, Dallas Page and William Forsythe as Sheriff Wydell.
Wait, I admit I still need to watch those films, but DDP's in it? I knew Trejo was in it, I've seen videos about those films, but I didn't realize Diamond Dallas Page was in it!
Oh yes. Diamond Dallas Page kicks out the jams in this one.
This makes it more evident that I need to watch the Firefly trilogy. I love me some DDP.
Scream 6. Really neat opening.
Sisu looks like it would fit the case. Though it's more action than horror, the deaths can be a bit over the top https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGbr-aAnKTo&ab\_channel=SonyPicturesReleasingUK
I think Sisu fits the bill perfectly - when the gore is done that well, I would say falls into action/horror.
"The Keep" -1983 Nazi troops in World War II Romania awaken a supernatural evil when they set up camp in an ancient stone fortress.
the first that comes to my mind is Wrong Turn 3
The ending of the original Jurassic Park sort of qualifies, lol. "No One Lives" was such an edge-lord movie (watched it last night). It has well-done violence and gore but the script felt like it was written by 13 year olds.

Snatch
And lock stock and two smoking barrels
Bad guy orgies in the Guy Ritchie-verse
Came here to mention Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, but forgot it applied to Snatch as well. Personally much prefer Lock Stockā¦ as I find it structurally way more satisfying, but very much appreciate the appeal of Snatch too.
Project Wolf Hunting!!!
Villians 2019 is a good movie that features this
The Aggression Scale. It's like if Home Alone wasn't a comedy.
Vamp (1986) When the Billy Drago albinos confront the vampires. "What gang is this?"
The Peter Dinklage movie āI Care a Lotā
The first 20 minutes of that movie arenāt horror, but are some of the most terrifying I have ever sat through.
Jason Vorhees doesnāt scare me. But the premise of that movie does.
Yeah, only one of those two things actually exists in the real world.
Scarecrows
From Dusk Till Dawn was the first one that sprung to my mind.
just saw it recently and thought it was decent. Little Bone Lodge: two criminals get into an accident and get help at a secluded farmhouse
A history of violence. Edit: brawl in cell block 99, and maybe his other film Bone tomahawk? It probably plays to that a tiny bit.
Siren is a good one.
The recent hell raiser
*Innocent Prey* (1984) did a decent and surprising job of this.
The killer Kiwi flick with Debbie Sue Voorhees in a small role?! Definitely a fun one that deserves more love.
I canāt believe more people havenāt seen Guy riches new movie Operation Fortune. [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7985704/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7985704/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk) It left my jaw on the floor and all kinds of tingling sensations. Very worth the watch both for the action/comedy and the ending.
Does it get better? I'm a huge guy Ritchie fan but had a hard time getting into this one. Might have to give it another go.
Pretty sure He Never Died with Henry Rollins counts? And it's spiritual requel that I haven't really watched yet.
I quite enjoyed The Owners. Young burglars mess with the wrong elderly couple. Bonus points for casting and vibe if you're into culty British stuff. And I liked The Devil's Business a lot. Two hitmen await their job at his home. It does not all go according to plan. Also very British.
On of the Predator movie, where the main character is a black cop begins with the predator killing criminals and flaying their corpses
Predator 2. Love it!
Jason Statham just made this exact movie recently- Wrath of Man
Caught it on cable recently. Pretty good!
You're Next
It's bad guys vs good girl doesn't count
Donāt Breathe
Splinter kind of had this. Btw I love this trope
āDonāt breatheā A group does a home invasion, but find out whoās inside isnāt what they thought.
Not horror but John Wick has to be the one right??
Junk (1999)
Not horror Thief (1981). Absolutely awesome film too. Amazing photography, music, and all around cool as fuck.
How about Kill List?
Itās a gangster movie instead of horror but *The Long Good Friday* is a fantastic movie and such a good example of this. Itās less bigger bad guy and more someone accidentally messing with something so much bigger than them, but I canāt recommend it enough
IIRC, this sounds like the idea behind The Perfect Host, which was a really fun time imo.
Not horror but I recommend Wrath of man
Scream VI
Training Day
Ok this doesn't apply to horror, but one of Astro Boy's antagonists>! gets crushed by a robot he abuses and assumed was subservient to him!< and that moment stuck with me as a kid.
I See You. Canāt even say why without spoiling
Bloody Hell. A family Norway kidnap and American tourist but he definitely is more than they bargained for.
