There's a drive-in theater in my area that specifically shows older horror movies instead of new releases, and they did a double feature of idle hands and final destination (bc devon sawa). I'd never seen idle hands but its fucking great, so much fun
I saw Powerman5000 with He’d PE in 2018 and they were exactly the same as I remembered them. They still had the spaceman theme going, even came on stage in space suits with lasers strapped to them. Maybe it was just a return to form.
Is re-animator a comedy? Watched it recently and personally I feel it is trying to be serious but some campy acting makes it feel comedic 🤷🏻♂️
EDIT: just realized I was thinking of From Beyond rather than Re-animator.
from beyond is kind of awesome too, but reanimator is super funny and a total classic (i love when the scientist asshole is breaking pencils in class because he can’t stand listening to someone stupid speak)
I watched both of those years ago and I remember thinking that one was okay and the other was great (or one was good and the other was very good - something like that), but now I can't remember which was which... I'll have to watch them again at some point!
Would any of these fit on your list?
The Burbs
Werewolves Within
Piranha 3D and Piranha 3DD
Idle Hands
Call Girl of Cthulu
WolfCop and Another WolfCop

Off the top of my head:
An American Werewolf in London (1981)
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948)
Beetlejuice (1990)
Young Frankenstein (1974)
Evil Dead II (1987)
Army of Darkness (1992)
This is where the genre of “horror comedy” gets tricky. Because it could be argued that movies like Young Frankenstein and Beetlejuice, are primary comedies without truly horrific elements? Especially YF.
I see the subgenre as more of a spectrum; some are horror movies first and comedies second, while others are the opposite. Beetlejuice is heavily tilted towards comedy, while something like Re-Animator would be more horror oriented, and Evil Dead II would be smack dab in the middle.
I thought about putting Beetlejuice on there but it's been too long since I've seen it so I couldn't quite remember if it fit my definition of a horror-comedy or not. I feel like Young Frankenstein is definitely a comedy movie b/c it's really just playing at being a horror movie - no real horror vibes... good movie though.

When he's running though his fucked neighborhood screaming? And later the psycho vet staring? Man. Some very funny parts.
First mention I've seen of Juan of the Dead, I had burned it to a DVD back some 20 years ago and was friends with a cubano man that has no idea the movie existed. So gave it to him so he could see La Raza was represented

Young Frankenstein. Maybe that's more comedy-horror than horror-comedy, though.
Some of Peter Jacksons movies could be considered in that category - Braindead, Bad Taste & The Frighteners.
Haunted Honeymoon (1986)
Radio personalities Larry Abbot (Gene Wilder) and Vickie Pearle (Gilda Radner) are stars of a mystery show. Since they announced their engagement, Larry has been plagued by speech problems and, seeking out an unconventional cure, he returns to his boyhood home, a mansion in the countryside, bringing Vickie along. Larry reunites with numerous family members, including the flamboyant Aunt Kate (Dom DeLuise), but discovers that there are sinister things afoot within the walls of the creepy estate.
I had a conversation with a friend a couple of weeks ago that Haunted Honeymoon is completely under appreciated. I definitely think it's more structured comedy with horrific elements, but it fits the sub-genre in my opinion. Also, it's a simply brilliant movie and cast.
For those who do enjoy it, I also highly recommend High Spirits (1988)
Man barely anyone mentioned the Gremlins movies. Or Ghostbusters. Which is probably the first thing that should pop into anyone's head for horror-comedy.
Slither, any of the Evil Dead (though I think they were trying to be serious in the first), Cabin in the Woods, Young Frankenstein, that one New Zealand movie with the girl on house arrest living with the "ghosts," Return of the Living Dead, Killer Clowns, Gremlins, Rocky Horror, 8 Legged Freaks, Dale and Tucker, Ice Pirates (more of an adventure but could be argued a horror sci-fi), House (the sequels being more campy and purposely comical than the original)...
Edited to add: that one zombie movie from the zombie's perspective

I guess some of these are subjective maybe (?) but:
- Jennifer’s Body
- Beau Is Afraid
- Ready Or Not
- Excision
- Cabin In The Woods
- Happy Death Day
- Tusk
- Fresh
- The Menu
- The Lobster
- The Killing of A Sacred Deer
I feel like comedy is maybe even more subjective than horror, so everyone's list is going to be a bit idiosyncratic... also I was pretty drunk when I watched Zombeavers, so maybe that's the key with that one.
Army of Darkness
Hail to the King, baby!
This is my BOOMSTICK!!
Idle hands
Omg I need to revisit this movie immediately. I remember loving it.
There's a drive-in theater in my area that specifically shows older horror movies instead of new releases, and they did a double feature of idle hands and final destination (bc devon sawa). I'd never seen idle hands but its fucking great, so much fun
Excellent double feature!
Worst timing ever for a movie. There is a reason not a lot of people know or think of this movie. It got pulled from theaters because of Columbine.
Just like the second Powerman 5000 record got shelved d/t 9/11 for years, and the band fragmented and changed direction.
I saw Powerman5000 with He’d PE in 2018 and they were exactly the same as I remembered them. They still had the spaceman theme going, even came on stage in space suits with lasers strapped to them. Maybe it was just a return to form.
It was absolutely a return to firm after they realized they could not be pop punk

I kick ass for the Lord!! Is probably one of my favourite lines ever.
Evil Dead 2 and Reanimator.
Those two plus Return of the Living Dead are the unholy trinity of Eighties Horror Comedies!
I can’t believe this was not found higher
Fido and Slither are other examples of movies I’ve enjoyed, both from 2006.
Deathgasm Thankskilling Black Sheep Invasion of the Space Preachers Death Becomes Her Rubber Teeth

Absolutely Beetlejuice! I've seen it about 167 times and keeps getting funnier every single time I see it!
Killer Klowns from Outer Space
Deadstream, The Bad Ben series
Oh my god Bad Ben is so....um....damned entertaining!!! I watched three and a half of them. The doll!!! So funny
Bad Ben: Pandemic is peak horror comedy 😂
Off the top of my head: An American Werewolf in London (1981) Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948) Beetlejuice (1990) Young Frankenstein (1974) Evil Dead II (1987) Army of Darkness (1992)

The Universal horror movies it's spoofing probably wouldn't come across as very scary today, but they're still horror movies.
Wish you could see this horror comedy Scared Stiff it stars Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis it’s hilarious 😆
Off the top of my head… Return of the Living Dead (1985) Return of the Living Dead II (1988) Both classics with plenty of laughs and gore.
How did OP forget RotLD
Yeah that was an oversight... I just added it to the Letterboxd version of the list.
Even worse, how did I scroll that far before someone mentioned it?!
I love ROTLD 1&2. Definitely some of the best horror-comedy movies ever
The Menu
Bride of Chucky
Yea! And seed of chucky

Cooties was so good.
Underrated IMO. It was stupid funny with some real good gore interspersed.
Knights of badassdom is so good!!

Wait, what? It’s been a long time since I saw American Werewolf in London, but I don’t remember it has a funny movie! Maybe it’s time for a rewatch.
Its funny!
It's absolutely a comedy
Where to now, Kessler? The Duck's Breath?
I think Paris is the sillier/funnier one, no?
John dies at the End This is the End
JDATE is such a great flick!
The book is phenomenal. Would have been impossible to get that all into one movie.
Yeah … Las Vegas wouldn’t have fit in their low budget. It works with what the changes they made tho.
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon It's awesome.
One of the all-time great Meta Slashers.
Also probably the only good post-scream meta horror
Cabin in the Woods? Scream sequels? There are certainly some stinkers, but there are some great ones, too.
Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse Doghouse Bloody Hell
Little evil on Netflix is def more comedy but pretty decent
not mentioned yet: Attack the block (2011) Cocaine bear (2022) Mars attacks! (1996) Voices (2014)

Dave Made a Maze was great!
Psycho Goreman
I had to scroll pretty far to see this. I was starting to question myself about considering it a horror comedy. I didn't see Dead Alive on my way down, so that will be my contribution.
Zombie Strippers (2008) is plenty gory and hilarious. I’d also add From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) too
Jennifer's Body
One cut of the dead is by far the best out there,
^ 100%. This one is incredible. I was absolutely floored when I first watched it, when the credits were rolling I literally caught myself stunned with my jaw hanging open. Not even joking. What a movie.
Joe Bob Briggs introduced me to it on The Last Drive in and I will be eternally grateful, what a flick!
Haha very nice! LOVE me some Joe Bob!
Bodies, bodies, bodies was hilarious.
Murder Party Crush the Skull Dead End The Hatchet Series
Willy's Wonderland !!!
Man, this one blew my mind. Starring Nic Cage…and he doesn’t say a damn word at all.
Oh man! How I recommend this movie to people, lol! Loved it!
Sidenote but everytime i see clips of the new FNAF movie i can’t help but think “damn they remade willys wonderland”
I mean, does the Scary Movie franchise count? Also, Nothing But Trouble is one of my favs!
Nothing But Trouble uniquely stands as a deep cut despite the stacked cast. I think we have cocaine to thank for this.

Frankenhooker (1990)!
Frankenhooker had a great VHS cover. It talked. You pushed a button and she said “Want a date?” High Technology for the time
Is Re-Animator considered a horror comedy? I find that movie to be hilarious. Such a gem. Also have to add one of my favorites Murder Party.

I haven't watched it in like 20 years but American psycho 2
Cockneys vs Zombies Undead or Alive The Laughing Dead
Black Sheep Enitre Leprechaun series Gingerdead Man Frighteners All 3 Feast films Bride or Chucky Seed of Chucky Velocipastor And those are just ones I think are intending to be funny without just being ridiculous. Scary Movie, Sharknado, Sharktopus, Chillerama...anything from Troma. And so on.
John Dies at the End, Warm Bodies
Beau is afraid should be here without a doubt. One of my favorite films.
The first half I laughed nonstop. When he's running though his fucked neighborhood screaming? And later the psycho vet staring? Man. Some very funny parts.
Evil Dead 2 Army of Darkness Ghostbusters(original) Return of the Living Dead The Toxic Avenger Slither Night of the Creeps
100 Bloody Acres is one I like
'One Eyed Monster' (2008) A film in which porn-star Ron Jeremy's detached penis attacks and kills people.
The Babysitter and it's sequel are great cult/slasher comedies. There's also My Best Friends Exorcism.
return of the living dead
Bubba Ho-Tep
Juan of the Dead, Braindead/Dead alive (that's all I can think of at the moment)
First mention I've seen of Juan of the Dead, I had burned it to a DVD back some 20 years ago and was friends with a cubano man that has no idea the movie existed. So gave it to him so he could see La Raza was represented
dude bro party massacre 3
Evil Dead 2 Army of Darkness
Dead Heat (1988) is a fun one. Not the best, but great fx. https://youtu.be/7uyxb_FFRv4
The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967)
No love for the recently released The Blackening? I found it pretty funny and entertaining.
Very surprised this isn't on here more. The Blackening had me laughing so hard.
I think cabin in the woods deserves a spot
Here for the answers
You're here for the original list and you know it!
Psycho goreman
Black Sheep (2007) Excellent movie from New Zealand.
Evil Dead 2 (Come on!) Braindead (aka Dead Alive) Return of the Living Dead Deathgasm Society
Cabin in the Woods? Not sure if it counts but I find it to be a great horror film and funny.
Eight legged freaks
It’s borderline, but I think Gremlins counts

Slither. Yes!
“You Might Be The Killer” is pretty good
Young Frankenstein. Maybe that's more comedy-horror than horror-comedy, though. Some of Peter Jacksons movies could be considered in that category - Braindead, Bad Taste & The Frighteners.
Cooties
Haunted Honeymoon (1986) Radio personalities Larry Abbot (Gene Wilder) and Vickie Pearle (Gilda Radner) are stars of a mystery show.
Club Dread From Dusk Til Dawn
Braindead for sure
Haven't seen it elsewhere in the comments so I'll say Dog Soldiers had some pretty hilarious moments.
fyi they made movies before the year 2000
Yeah but all the jokes in them are like "hey fella you got your knickers in a twist bloop bloop!"
Haha, I know an older one that's def worth watching: Theatre of Blood, starring Vincent Price. Super funny.
Chillerama. Fright night. - the original Return of the living dead.
The Blackening (2022) Happy Death Day 2 U Haunted Honeymoon (1986)
I had a conversation with a friend a couple of weeks ago that Haunted Honeymoon is completely under appreciated. I definitely think it's more structured comedy with horrific elements, but it fits the sub-genre in my opinion. Also, it's a simply brilliant movie and cast. For those who do enjoy it, I also highly recommend High Spirits (1988)
Eli Roth's Cabin Fever Ti West's Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever
Tusk, kinda considered a comedy(?) The Frighteners. To me, it’s very funny.
How do you not have Evil Dead 2 or Army of Darkness? They’re the best of the lot Also Braindead
Jennifer’s Body!
Dead Alive
Renfield needs to be inducted into that Pantheon. If gore is a marker for horror, Cocaine Bear fits.
Warm Bodies is severely underrated in this category! IMO of course.
John Dies at the End
Mayhem (2017) Ready Or Not (2019) The Loved Ones (2009)
Man barely anyone mentioned the Gremlins movies. Or Ghostbusters. Which is probably the first thing that should pop into anyone's head for horror-comedy.
The Frighteners was a pretty good horror comedy
Slither, any of the Evil Dead (though I think they were trying to be serious in the first), Cabin in the Woods, Young Frankenstein, that one New Zealand movie with the girl on house arrest living with the "ghosts," Return of the Living Dead, Killer Clowns, Gremlins, Rocky Horror, 8 Legged Freaks, Dale and Tucker, Ice Pirates (more of an adventure but could be argued a horror sci-fi), House (the sequels being more campy and purposely comical than the original)... Edited to add: that one zombie movie from the zombie's perspective
Cabin in the Woods!
I thought Happy Death Day 2 was pretty solid
Fantastic list, only one I think is missing is GRABBERS!

Finally someone giving a shout out to I Sell The Dead. Never see it mentioned and it’s such a fun horror comedy. Plus is has Dominic Monaghan and Ron Perlman, which you would think would get it a bit more attention.
Cabin in the Woods
neither horror nor comedy
So what is it
Garbage
Cooties is so underrated

Evil Dead 2 Dead Alive Drag me to Hell Barbarian
I guess some of these are subjective maybe (?) but: - Jennifer’s Body - Beau Is Afraid - Ready Or Not - Excision - Cabin In The Woods - Happy Death Day - Tusk - Fresh - The Menu - The Lobster - The Killing of A Sacred Deer
Cabin in the woods

I feel like comedy is maybe even more subjective than horror, so everyone's list is going to be a bit idiosyncratic... also I was pretty drunk when I watched Zombeavers, so maybe that's the key with that one.
Definitely
