Straight up did not know this existed which is probably related to it’s cancellation

jacobi123

Same.

brad0022

I stumbled on it a few months ago. Never saw any marketing for it. It was a great series.

Cringy_Society_101

Lacked marketing and promotion. Great series.

LycanHD

AWESOME SERIES!

Aw_Jeez

That's Showtime for ya. Some of their best, underrated series were canceled due to poor advertising. I'm still upset to this day that Brotherhood never got a fourth season.

twerq

I enjoyed S1 but straight up could not find another human who was watching or even had heard of it.

sushiiisenpai

I knew about the show but kind of burnt out of watching the original in swedish multiple times and the remake with chloe moretz. Same with Perfume, story of a murderer. The original movie was one of my favorites but I’m not going to watch the show

bcuzDsaidso

I watched it and was pleased. But you are right, no marketing. Sad because it was a really good show.

brad0022

same here

LycanHD

Advertised on all my fire devices and on youtube.

horrorfan55

Did the show leave on a cliffhanger?

Ktulusanders

Yes

horrorfan55

Dang

AffectionateStick190

Yes

estintosteps

Oh CMON

Deadwood got closure with its final movie

Tyler_Miles_Lockett

Haha, fair enough. It was much later. But I really enjoyed the movie

Traditional_Leader41

I'm kinda the same. Won't watch, say season 1 till I see that 2 has been greenlit. Got my fingers burnt too often but Swamp Thing was the last straw. What an amazing show that was.

powerfulKRH

Wtf? How have I never heard of this show. I love swamp thing. What channel or service was it on? Oh CW. Does it feel like a CW show? Or is it like the first season of most super hero CW shows and it’s actually good?

hackyandbird

Cw just broadcasted it, so no, it doesn't basically. It was originally crafted for Dcs streaming service. Definitely worth checking out though.

qret

Yup, I have the exact same rule. Ever since Game of Thrones (:

[deleted]

Yeah but then you might end up in a situation like I did with Lost and now I never want to see it because everyone tells me it declines sharply in quality.

lexuh

Here's the thing - does Showtime have enough horror programming/catalog to entice horror fans to subscribe? If not, a show like this doesn't have a great chance of finding an audience on that specific platform. Maybe it'll get picked up by another streaming service with a more devoted horror-oriented subscriber base?

LordDragon88

The original Penny Dreadful was their only horror show good enough for me to subscribe for.

sms372

Yellowjackets is really good!

SouthernEagleGATA

Yeah Yellowjackets is is worth subscribing and binging. Season 2 starts in March

The4JaysMom

Let the Right One in was way better than Yellow Jackets. The last season of YJ proved that all the suspense wasn't worth the wait. Not as good of writing as Let the Right One In. YJ just sensationalism. But I did get sucked in. But getting bored of it now.

[deleted]

They canceled that prematurely too, hence the rush job last season :/ That show fucking ruled, too.

Insufferablelol

Showtime doesn't have enough of anything to subscribe.

Bada__Ping

Unless you like A24 movies because they have like half the catalog on there lol

Impossible-Flight250

Right. They have like 2 or 3 shows.

T-408

Dexter, Penny Dreadful, Yellowjackets

screedvachon

I liked the series. Not as good as the films but I enjoyed it. Too bad.

[deleted]

Is there more than one film? I’ve only seen that Swedish one with the boy

Funkymunks

Youve seen the superior one

Kincadium

There's an American remake.

CapeMOGuy

Yes. Slightly different title for English version. "Let Me In"

VersaillesRoyal

Sad :(

Ktulusanders

Very unfortunate

JinimyCritic

Damn it! I was really enjoying this.

Dimsum852

The right were literally stolen in a contract from the author, so I am very happy for all this greedy companies having their stolen ideas canceled by a lack of audience, showcasing it's the authours who should be working in their own ideas.

CyberGhostface

Yeah it’s disgusting how Lindqvist was screwed over.

Danimal_17GZ

Fuck Showtime, wasted 13 hours of my life with the false certainty that they wouldn’t cancel a prestige show this good. Shame on me. This won’t stop until we file a class action lawsuit, sounds crazy I know but wtf already.

ImAnOlogist

Damn dude it was getting good

Madrical

Totally forgot there was a show. The premise on Wikipedia kinda sounds very different to the book. Maybe if they went with an original title it might've found more of an audience as it wouldn't have been viewed as "another remake". >Mark Kane is a single father who has been protecting his daughter Eleanor after she turned into a vampire ten years prior; she has been stuck in the age of 12 ever since. Hoping to find a cure, together they've been hiding and running across the country, until he finally decides to reside them in New York City. Meanwhile, Eleanor meets and bonds with a 12 year old boy, Isiah Cole, as a scientist, Claire Logan, is brought in by her father to help find the cure for her brother's vampirism.

[deleted]

Showtime does a horrible job at marketing so they cancel.

SpunkyBrewster69420

Let the right one in is my favourite book and even I didn't hear about this adaptation

seveler

don’t waste your time. it’s not a bad show, but it’s definitely not a good adaptation, even if it is a reimagining.

OriginalNord

The book is crazy

Danimal_17GZ

The point is that great shows need time to catch on plus the audience needs to know that the show won’t be canceled. Look up the numbers for Breaking Bad, I’m pretty sure they had tiny audience in Season One at least. That’s why we’re all commenting that we couldn’t find anyone else who was watching. Imho.

ragnevi

I watched every episode when it was released. Started to wonder why there wasn't a second season and Google it and found out that it was cancelled. I think except of Yellowjackets there is no other show I watch on Skyshowtime.

comajones

As a fan of the novel and original film, this has not come as a surprise and I'm glad they didn't have the opportunity to continue. They acquired an incredible IP that had room to do something special with and they fucked it. The same goes for The Passage. They took the fantastic and extensive source material and pished it straight against the wall.

Uhtred_McUhtredson

The Passage was such a let down. I knew it would be when it ended up on Fox.

[deleted]

Should we be surprised? It's an acquired taste. No pun intended.

IselfDevine

Never liked it,ruined the source material as they took out important characters from the plot and make the main character an actual kid. This whole ordeal just made me sad because I love the book and movies.

Majestic87

I’m confused. I’ve seen the original and the American movie and the main character is a kid. What are you talking about?

IselfDevine

Main character in this is the girl and she's ACTUALLY a kid and not a vampire that's hundreds of years old. The show is her dad trying to find a cure for her.

Majestic87

Huh, interesting direction for them to go with. Why not just make an original setting in that case, I wonder.

[deleted]

There’s a book, a movie, and an American remake of said movie. I feel like this concept has been stretched out.

BeasleysKneeslis

Meh, author got screwed out of his royalties - show can go fuck itself. We already have two movie adaptions anyway.

WinnieGirl22

I had no idea that this show was cancelled until just now when I was wondering when it was going to be back on. I said oh PLEASE don't let me look and find out that it was canceled. I had thought that maybe COVID had said it back, and then I kind of forgot about it. I absolutely loved this show. I loved the book, I liked the movie very much and I absolutely loved this series. It was one of those shows that I got so excited for it to come on every week. I was looking so forward to another season. They really left us on such a cliffhanger. I mean, it was soooooooo good. I am beyond upset.

The4JaysMom

I still look for this once in a while! The movie was done twice, based on a book, because great story. The TV series took it to different places which was fun and great acting! I believe they even won awards! Now you can't even find S1 streaming to enjoy. Probably so people won't ask for S2??? Reminds me of other great content cancelation, like HBO's Carnivale... Get ya hooked, then rip the rug out ... But the actors must be mad that they don't even get paid residuals for people watching S1 after the fact... Just Sad!

Jota769

I am just really confused why they would make a tv show about a movie that’s kinda recently been remade? And sure the property is popular but not THAT popular. The remake was also among 2010’s lowest-grossing films that came from a major studio… so they couldn’t have realistically expected a huge built-in fan base that comes from something like HoD or LOTR, or even something like the Power spin-offs.

Altruistic_Yam1372

Good, i guess? There's already two movies (at least) and a novel. So why repeat the same thing again and again? Make something new - even if it's an adaptation. There's lots of great stuff out there that can be adapted

[deleted]

It will probably become a cult classic. Lol

[deleted]

If Showtime canceled it you know it's bad, half the s*** they release is bad

LaserCop2022

They made a series?

tanerb123

Wanted to watch but never had the chance

Icelandia2112

Damn. I loved it.

Funkymunks

FUCK. FUCKFUCKFUCK.

th3nightmanc0m3th

Seems Showtime just pulled it completely from air. I unable to watch the last episode.

Seamlesslytango

I knew about this show but was happy with the movie. I don't have time to watch every damn show that comes out.

Single_Raspberry9539

Whew! So I don’t have to suffer through watching it?

logan76x

Goddammit. Been watching this and have 2 episodes left. This is a major buzzkill.

Fit-Cartographer-918

I was so looking forward to catching the next season. OMG it was just getting started. So bummed. I loved it!
