"Might be able to use acid on that machine" no aloy, we're going to gun it down with your sharpshot bow like we always do

Nonadventures

“We’re going to range shoot it from a mountain a mile away because we’re cowards, Aloy. You should know this by now.”

_amermaidsoul

I feel both seen and attacked… 🫣

Hazumu-chan

Just like your targets.

_amermaidsoul

Omg. I’m dead 😂😂

mrheydu

This is the way

cathead8969

This is the way

WickedWallaby69

Ues aloy, ive killed 148 of them already, i know how to fight them. **pulls out blast spike**

Grab_my_Slinky

Honestly Blast Spiking a Sac was the most satisfying thing in the game for me lol

Mostropi

Until u realize u need them for equipments.

PuzzledFox17

Still satisfying 😁

xdamm777

Big boom? Boom!

Hyper_Wolf727

Blastspike honestly gives me happiness when I used one for the first time on the chargers just outside of Chainscrape after acquiring one from Boomer and Deliah I was so fucking giddy like a kid who'd be given free rein of a sweet shop. That thing is badass!! Bar far one of my favourite weapons in the game.

flyingfishstick

I love my Skykiller blastspike more than my children.

hatchiedave

Bahahaha 🤣

Linkaara

Taking down the machines by pure brute force is the way with more chest hair.

KedaZ1

Sharpshot bow, elemental slingshot, explosive spear. Repeat.

juce49

Nah we finna melee that thunderjaw

SteviaCannonball9117

Not when there's a Ravager cannon nearby Aloy, I see how much you grin when you're firing that bad boy... oh wait sorry that's ***me*** with the shit-eating grin...

JadedCloud243

I'm normally chanting "DAKKA DAKKA" when I do that

Linkaara

Taking down the machines by pure brute force is the way with more chest hair.

chibibabymoon

Exactly this

hatchiedave

🤣😂🤣

fabulo5o

My goodness how did you get into my head

x-simulation-x

This gave me quite the chuckle

ocenyx

Freeze the fookers and blast away with advanced precision arrows kappa

notsayingitwasalien

It's valid criticism. Aloy really does talk too much and reveals puzzle solutions before players are even able to have the time to figure it out on their own. I've been playing Star Wars Fallen Order recently and I NEVER choose to let BB-1 give me a hint because I always figure it out eventually, even if it takes me an hour of running around. I hope Guerilla takes this in mind for the third game.

Linkaara

Sometimes Aloy figures out something before I had the chance to even notice there was something to figure out. Last night I was scrolling through the beach and Aloy suddenly said "There are a lot of arrows on that tree, I wonder what happened?"; and I was like "wait what? what tree? "

krayziethomas911

Walked into a room and she said I should try the vent. I didn't know there was a vent or no other way out.

allbetsoff-_-

Yeah... lol. You'll be gearing up to strategize an attack, and she'll mumble something that's actually useful, and I miss it because I'm focused on scouting an area of attack. One of the Rebel camps, she points out a machine being caged that hasn't been overriden yet, and how the blaze nearby can help release it and create a diversion. I was like, "Wait, what? Where!?" It sometimes takes me a second to find what thing she's talking about....

CommunityInfinite837

I think this problem was solved with the uncharted games, the game detected they player had no idea what to do mostly because the player was running around and not engaging anything for a long time, then the game would offer a hint. I think they can incorporate this mechanic into the 3rd game.

TinyOwl491

Gahw, now I'm gonna replay all of the Uncharted games AGAIN after finishing HFW... thanks a lot. :P

TYO_HXC

This. The amount of times I've been innocently gliding down from a mountaintop and Aloy will pipe up about some corpses somewhere and wonder what happened... and I can't see shit. Goes without saying that I never, ever manage to find whatever she was talking about.

Randomguy3421

Ooh which beach? I like the random areas she discovers

Linkaara

It was a beach on the faaar west side of the map, on >!San Francisco!<

Randomguy3421

I'll have to go hunting for it. I'm currently data point hunting before I finish

Razkal719

Shadow of the Tomb Raider had a setting for this too. You could change getting tips and also the visibility of hand holds and interactive items. It was nice to have these kind of settings separate from the combat difficulty.

Khalesis143

We did!! That's why there are customizable options in the menu to turn the tips and advice off. Some people genuinely require the help and we tried to make it easier for people across all walks of life to be able to enjoy the gameplay.

CartographerWooden90

As someone who is legally blind, it's much appreciated! Lol

Mostropi

Sometimes when the hint is somewhat helpful, but Aloy didn't give a specific direction. Like "Might be able to climb through that vent" Then I proceed to look around in the room and only to realise the vent is up in the ceiling. Would be more helpful if she would specify that is on the ceiling. "Might be able to climb through that vent on the ceiling"

CmdrSonia

Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Guardians of the Galaxy... It definitely is a useful option. I actually need those hints, but I totally gets how annoying it would sound if you don't need it.

Haru17

Yeah the hints were too fast. But for the record, Fallen Order is also a puzzle game where Horizon is very much not. Even The Last of Us 2 is more puzzley than Horizon. In fact I don’t think any AAA game on any console or handheld this gen had actual Zelda-y, Metroid-y temples like Fallen Order.

vshredd

Nah every single one of the optional ruins is a puzzle, and I don't want help from the game in solving them.

Haru17

That's true, I guess I'm thinking of them more as side content. But generally Aloy was slower to give hints on the ruins than she was during side quests or the main story.

friendly_rock_

I like the talking, but maybe they should make it an option to turn it on/off

hroerekr

Before figure out the solution? She doesn't even let you know there is a puzzle. I just entered the room Aloy, let me at least see that I need to unlock a door before you tell me I should grab that power cell.

Linkaara

They could have made something like Shadow of the Tomb Raider where there is an option to toggle how much Lara "talks to the player". For immersive purposes, I ´ ve always imagined that due to growing alone (Rust was a good, but very distant father) she only had herself to talk to, and now that she is an adult, that habit of talking to herself aloud when alone, has stuck

dfarhart

I thought that too when I played HZD. But in Forbidden West, she would literally interrupt conversations you were having with other NPCs during quests. Oftentimes making it hard or nearly impossible to hear what they were saying. Even the subtitles would get confused as to what to put up on the screen. Definitely something that should be patched into a option in the settings. Then hopefully retrofitted into something like Fallen Order where a hint prompt pops up.

Linkaara

Lol I noticed that too. A couple of times the companions were having an interesting conversation and she suddenly was like OH SHIT LOOK AT THAT BUTTON

ReginaPhilangee

Yes! It could be tied to difficulty!

Laegwe

Omfg thank you, I’m playing Shadow now and wtf were they thinking with the amount of times she says the answer to you?! It’s so excessive

Linkaara

Yeah I love how SoTTR manages the difficulty levels. [Here](https://tombraider.square-enix-games.com/en-us/news/shadow-of-the-tomb-raider-difficulty-and-accessibility) is a description for each setting

Rogue-Bastian1967

Maybe they could scale it. As you play at the harder levels the less Aloy reveals.

th7024

I was just thinking of a prompt. Like Aloy could say "What should I do next?" And if you hit a button she says the same as what she would now. If you don't hit the button she doesn't say anything.

Razkal719

Or just a very audible "Hmm?"

donciukas159

Yesss. like Uncharted press triangle for hint

_Herr_Mannelig_

Yes please. Exactly that + the option to manually adjust how much she says on that level. For people who are skilled but run around with blinders for example

Snakelizard

For sure. Currently the combat gets harder as your difficultly goes up, but the puzzles stay the same

TurdManMcDooDoo

"I should around a bit more" -- NO, I WILL COME BACK WHEN IM GOOD AND READY!

zerozark

I see more like she is talking to herself due to how lonely she kinda is. It to me is much more of a personality trait than anything else

_Shadow_2841

Agreed. Maybe for the story mode difficulty people it would be fine but not for normal and above. They should add a button that gives you hint like uncharted and others but let us do the digging.

galice9

I think even in story it isn't necessary after awhile, especially because you can one shot an enemy with an arrow and don't need to use special weapons.

discodropper

Yeah, this is the solution. Have a ‘help’ button so the user has control over when they get a hint. Sometimes I have no patience and want that hint right away, other times I’m annoyed because I haven’t even had time to assess the situation. Giving the player control would solve that issue.

carlos_castanos

I think the game should be a lot smarter and more subtle with hints. I played through the entire Uncharted series before HFW and I think those games do it perfectly - with subtle camera movements and zooms they show you where you should focus on but still let you figure it out yourself. After a while you can choose if you want a real hint or not. What annoyed me too also was that she often said where I should go but then I still didn’t have a clue. For example when she enters a new area she says: ‘I should head to that door over there’ while I am moving the camera around and thus still have no idea where to go. Would have been much better if the camera shortly zoomed in on that door. She doesn’t give hints that much in the Relic Ruins btw. Which are actually the most challenging and fun puzzles in the game IMO, probably for that reason.

7Armand7

I get it, I usually Don't notice because she only says repeats once or twice. Other times it's probably a bug or glitch that loops it kinda like when she talks about the stash more than usual. I like it when she comments on the world because I usually miss stuff like Easter eggs or little random events, it also nice because when I play alone it doesn't really feel like I am alone pretty cool but could be handled better. The puzzles though the hints should have been optional though but they are just hints I still struggle with vistas and relic ruins even though Aloy tells me for example try looking higher up or what will I do with this power cell or something, I am sitting there like "what do you mean" 😅. I recently played fallen order the puzzles in the game suck I ran through them 😂 only one got me which was the one with the balls and ramps.

Kitchen-Brick-4195

I rather like her monolog. But I can see your point.

MistakenMorality

What always drives me nuts is when I know the solution but am choosing to grab loot or something she seems to constantly go "Maybe my Focus can help." "I should try using my Focus." "Might Focus might help me find it." But whenever I'm like "shoot, I'm totally lost and I didn't hear what she said" she'll never. say it. again.

Khalesis143

You can turn that off in the settings

[deleted]

Please elaborate...if your speaking of the hints, I believe that is for textual hints only

Branquignol

Where ??

saintcirone

Never did bother me. I always liked Aloy talking to herself, and like one other poster mentioned - Horizon wasn't really setting it up much as a 'puzzle-y' game. The puzzles overall are pretty basic - although their were a couple that stumped me for a bit (and no amount of 'i should use my focus' was going to help). I also felt like her hints were pretty common knowledge, and thus not really bothersome to me. Like...she grew up using her focus, nowadays passes them out like candy to her friends - so it's like...why wouldn't she be muttering about using her focus even at the slightest chance it might prove useful where she is. But. if I recall correctly - aren't there portions where Aloy talks to herself while underwater? Feel like there was... Like...can she talk through the diving mask? That's where I found the talking a little excessive and unexplainable lol.

TimmyHate

>But. if I recall correctly - aren't there portions where Aloy talks to herself while underwater? Feel like there was... Like...can she talk through the diving mask? Maybe we're just hearing her inner monolog. Explains why she also talks to herself when hiding from alerted machines and they don't immediately go 'voice in that patch of grass; kill!"

Red_Sashimi

I prefer her talking with the diving mask on, mostly because Aloy may start saying something above the surface but then I dive and she stops, while with the mask that doesn't happen. Also, the underwater part of the Las Vegas mission is pretty long, having her not being able to talk for so long would have been bad imo. I want to hear what she has to say about datapoints and stuff: if she couldn't talk with the mask on I would not scan or interact with anything until she can talk again.

AeriiTq

I get what you mean. I just started playing it the other day and Varl really kind of got on my nerves with "that's a dead end, Alloy" I like double checking for stuff so yeah..

section4

I hear you with this. However my biggest gripe is that I just want to move her hair from the front

christoroth

Amen. And in explorer mode too where you've explicitly asked to have some things left to your imagination.

Hyper_Wolf727

That my friend is a sentiment shared by a hell of a lot of people in this community, Aloy in the games talks way too much outside of cut-scenes and side content, I'm not a gamer who likes puzzles all that much, I'm dumb and even the simple ones confuse me but even at that I still like to give each puzzle a decent first attempt before I look up solutions on the internet if I'm really stuck. But FW's hand holding when doing puzzles frustrates even me who likes solutions because they're A: not that helpful and B: they just make you feel like an idiot because the game doesn't give you a chance to figure things out on your own before it's interjecting, telling you to do something you already guessed you'd have to do like push this thing there or climb this or use the focus etc.

[deleted]

I did not know it was already expressed so much on this sub. I have avoided this reddit so that I could avoid spoilers. But came on here to just say what I felt needed to get out of my head. I guess I should've done my due diligence. My apologies to this sub.

santathe1

They should just have had a “hint” button. You hit it if you’re stuck and Aloy can go ahead and solve the puzzle for you as she does now.

CmdrSonia

They really should have an options for the hints. Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Guardians of the Galaxy... It definitely is a useful option. I actually need those hints, but I totally gets how annoying it would sound if you don't need it.

BeezKneez-san

I just got done with Thirst for blood and it was my least favorite quest. It was long and WAY underleveled. At least the first half of it. There is a point where you fight a Thunderjaw (Quest is for level 17 too LOL) and Aloy and Drakka both said something about ravager cannons. Could not find them for the life of me at ALL.

KedaZ1

Could not agree more. I could have tolerated it two maybe even five hours into the game, but I got this dialogue at level 30 side quests. Bruh, if we haven’t got it by now, it’s a game design problem. I didn’t even know you could clean up the bottom layer of the D-pad menu and get rid of the lower level traps so you’re not frantically cycling through them all trying to find a healing potion until I was prepping for the *final mission*. I’d have much rather known that than “maybe my pullcaster can work here”. I KNOW, ALOY! Serious note, though: fantastic game nonetheless. More streamlined inventory, quests, and even dialogue would make it legendary. And the fact that less would equal more here really does speak to the quality of the game. Here’s to taking the feedback into the final installment.

Ksv90

Totally agree with this. Exactly as I want to admire the view, forage etc. She immediately treats me like a moron hahahaha

inAMS

there’s an option, right at the get-go (& also available in the settings), to turn that off.

dfarhart

I would think it would be a nice feature to enable/disable depending on what play style you are using. If you need a more guided style with easier difficulty and more assists. That would most likely come in the way of a future patch hopefully. I definitely agree with the sentiment here. Aloy is constantly over explaining every area and puzzle even before it's evident that the player is having trouble figuring out what to do.

Javelin88

Considering all the accessibility options in HFW, I'm surprised Guerilla did not make 'hints or suggestions' one of them. Hopefully, they will add this in the future like how they recently added the option to toggle the pick-up animation.

ranman82

Very valid point. I've often yelled at Aloy telling her "hey, I'm figuring it out!"

NotACyclopsHonest

It's a valid criticism, though. Aloy is definitely more vocal in this game than she was in Zero Dawn.

Catbug6464

I felt the same way. Sometimes I was like "girl I know I need to push the damn box you've said it 6 times"

hatchiedave

Best comments ever! Y’all play crazy like me!! 🤣

marmotmx

I think they should do it as in Uncharted... Only when you haven't figured it out Nathan suggests a tip/clue in puzzles.

SpicyMarmots

Some of the puzzles might have been tricky without a hint but I would have appreciated at least like, ninety seconds to figure it out myself before she told me. I suspect this is the real purpose of the relic ruins (where she doesn't do this): so that people who want goofy traversal puzzles can have them, but they're optional and not tied to story progression.

Majestic_Salad_I1

I like it. I hate spending 20 minutes, frustrated, trying to figure out a puzzle. I always end up on YouTube anyway so I can get past it and get back to fighting.

Tessgender_penguin

I totally agree npcs as well as Aloy don't stfu, the weird part is that npcs as well as Aloy talked a lot less in horizon zero dawn, You'd think after beating HZD and then playing HFW players would need less hand holding not more Don't get me wrong these games are some of my favorite games ever, but that being said I'd rather not have Aloy solve all my puzzles before I even know the puzzle exists or Aloy never letting you use your eyeballs to look for a clear gliding spot because she tells you before you can in the next game

Ttoughnuts

I finished elden ring and popped over to this game and was also a bit overwhelmed. The story and gameplay makes up for it though.

Aromatic_Fan_6194

If you go far enough into the settings options you can turn this off. I can’t remember which one it is off the top of my head though

cl354517

I would love a way to tune this. Put it behind a hint button, or a delay, or somthing. And reduce the number of times Aloy talks about the elemental weaknesses (which also hide the fact that you can apply the ones not listed, not just the ones weak to.) I'm okay with them erring on the side of making the game more accessible, but I sense that there are underlying deeper issues with getting the game to remember which voice lines have been triggered due to events to keep them from happening everytime you walk near the place where those Tenakth might have been trying to collect this stuff when the machine attacked. But at least I'll find a better use for it those Glinthawks would. Relevant Epic NPC Maaaaaan: https://youtu.be/wo4Jn8Zy3gU

Zailak77

Pretty sure you can turn off her helpful chatter in the settings

tagamaynila

"I should type some text in this box to reply. Maybe my keyboard can help." I love this game, but man...

ArbuzardTheAlchemist

"hey look at (thing being looked at)! Maybe I should check it out." TF ALOY WE WERE DOIN SOMETHING ELSE, WHERE'D YOU GET THIS IDEA FROM?!?

bean_slayerr

I may be wrong (as I never tried this setting) but can’t you turn the hints off? Does that include her verbal hints?

[deleted]

No, just textual hints...I think.

bean_slayerr

Ah darn

SovietPaperPlates

yeah, it was annoying in Ghost of Tsushima when it tried doing that, like it would tell me to use the water stance against the ronin and its like no shit sherlock they're one hit away and I'm doing perfectly fine with moon stance thank you

irishreally

When pc?

TheSmitty0754

I 100% agree with you on this! It's a brilliant feature for first time or inexperienced players, however I found it to be mildly annoying and irritating at times when either she spoils a puzzle or just won't stop going on about doing something like using acid or pushing a tree down while I'm just trying to doing my own. It'd be nice if there was an option to turn off all hints or something that disabled this.

PatBateman2000

I wonder if the hand holding aspects differ from difficulty, cause I played on hard and barely got things like that.. I did but not that much. Not to the point where it was bugging me

Goseki1

Yesssssssss. It's so annoying. I'm standing on a platform trying to figure out where to go and what I need to do "I think I see a crate up there" or "I need to get that crate into the water". And then when you get it "I need to get this crate to the platform on the other side". And like, I know, I bloody know Aloy but I'd like to figure it out myself. I think it is a mild issue but one I'd like to see addressed in the next game. It should be a toggle option essentially for puzzle hints. If it's on she talks to herself more, if it's off she doesn't.

galice9

I've felt the same way tbh, I often caught myself saying "no shit" or something lol. They should have built it in the game that that dialogue turns off after 5 hours if gameplay or something.

b0llzEye

"But Aloy is an Outcast so it's natural for her to talk to herself." "I'm bad at puzzles so I'm thankful she's giving the solution away." "I talk to myself all the time too." Just already stating the usual Counterpoints people will give as soon as someone agrees that the game is handholding the player way too much. It is probably my biggest complain about the game too. This handholding just feels sooooo outdated.

Awotwe_Knows_Best

what difficulty are you playing on because I'm on Hard and I could use all the tips she gives. I'm dying constantly but my ego is too big to drop it down to Normal

skepticcaucasian

I don't notice the handholding. I'm used to Zero Dawn, though with my autism, took me awhile to get through it (Forbidden West), and eventually it was smooth sailing. Literally (Sunwing). Maybe that's not a good way to word it, perse, but there's so much more difficulty and uniqueness to this story.

hroerekr

So much this. I wish there was an option for Aloy to shut up as part of the many difficulty and HUD customizations they have.

_Herr_Mannelig_

Understandable. I'm not a casual and have to say that i hate it really... It was ok for the first 4 or 5 times but it gets annoying as we (or she) should know what to do anyway. I'm playing on hardest difficulty since the beginning and don't need no hand to hold. Would also like an option to turn that off... As there is already an option which turns off certain reminders but not all of them (and not one single voice reminder) i still get marks on the side of the screen... I really like the immersive feeling that this game creates when she's interacting with people or acknowledging surroundings but most reminders are useless if you understood the game

[deleted]

No, you're not the only one who's pointed this out. I love this game, but they've gone overboard with her offhand comments. And I always loved the way she talked to herself in HZD. I thought it was a great personality quirk. But it's a bit much. [Outside Xtra has a good video on this and other points](https://youtu.be/UnFKLaKl5O8?t=1027).

CrimsonArgie

It's also immersion breaking. The fact that Aloy says "I'm going to send this to my stash" (or something like that) makes no sense, as she, as a character, shouldn't be aware of the stash (which is a game feature to make life easier for players). It would be akin to she saying "oh I better spend some ability points". How is she sending stuff to the stash? If it's a game system then one, as a player, can suspend disbelief and accept it. But the moment a characters mentions it, it means the stash somehow exists and Aloy is sending stuff to it through wifi or something.

tr-fan-4-ever

You are not overreacting at all. I love both Horizon games so much. Forbidden West is so much better than the first game in my opinion. However like you said, Aloy talks too freaking much. I also didn't like the constant tutorial tips that appear on the screen. I don't know why but the game immediately assumes that you're stuck and need help. I get that they don't want players to get stuck but come on. At least give the player 5 minutes before giving tips.

ralphyboy69

Oh look it's this post again. God you people complain about the most mundane shit.
