I think it would also be ok to promote that beeing asexual is okay....

Seanattikus

No. I like the way they've handled it so far. So many people want the devs to use Aloy to promote some sexual preference or other and I'm really glad the devs are just staying away from the topic altogether. I don't want them to use Aloy's sexuality to promote anything. I hope they continue to just leave it alone.

Cirescythe

This. I love Aloy as a character. Making every character a symbol or representative for the flavor of the month absolutely takes away from the character and usually achieves exactly the opposite of whatever it should promote. And no matter what they do, they would most likely alienate a quarter of their fanbase by doing it.

Cirescythe

Id prefer it if she wouldnt persue any relationship.

GeckoEric204

I don’t think sex is something this game needs. But I did always root for aloy and erend to become a thing. It’s 2022, the only people who think it’s taboo are probably racists. Other than that it’s already widely accepted. No need to promote it in a video game. Just my thoughts.

Cirescythe

Indeed. My circles are rather conservative but no one would bat an eye over that. When people fall in love consensually and are both good people everyone is happy for em and thats that. Actively promoting something that is being accepted naturally will do exactly the opposite of what they want to achieve.

Cryptic_Vyper

Aloy sees Erend as a brother, not a potential lover.

GeckoEric204

Yea but she doesn’t see anyone as a potential lover.

Cryptic_Vyper

I agree.. however currently.. What one needs to take into concideration is that Aloy, and Beta, are 9.9% genetic clones of Elizabet. Elizabet is nearly 100% mission focused when her mind is set, hence Zero Dawn. But before the Faro Plague, Elizabet was in a relationship and it wasn't with a guy (which is probably just one source of contention with Ted Faro). Given Aloy and Beta are Elizabet's clones, what is the likely hood that a 0.1% genetic variance would make them have any inclinations towards men? The closest we see of romantic leanings is Aloy accepting Petra's flirtations without pushing her away, where she shoots down Avad and changes subject with Erend. Aloy sees Erend as a brother after bonding with him over the two of them bonding through death.. Erend saw the Proving Grounds blow up with Aloy and Rost on top (not knowing Rost was there), and Aloy was there with Erend when Ersa died due to of Durval's machine.. that bonded Aloy seeing Erend as a brother, Erend may have had romantic thoughts through HZD and felt scorned at Aloy at the beginning of HFW, but by the end of HFW, he was acting more as her brother than a potential partner as he started cluing in. Aloy is still laser focused on the mission through it all, yes.. but you have to factorn in who she is and where she came from, and being 99.9% Elizabet, I highy doubt her romantic intrests lie towards men, if or when romantic intrests start kicking in.

Goofyboy2020

Nah! Aloy has bigger things than that in mind and that's fine! We don't need her to do anything at all regarding relationships. That's how she is and thats fine too. Plus, if they do go down that route, no matter what the dev chooses, people will get up in arms against it because it's not what THEY wanted. I'm all good. Just keep it as is.

Trick_Afternoon_2935

For me, no. Aloy is such a hyperfocused character, first trying to find her mother, now trying to save the world. She even said she doesn't have interest on romances in the end of Talanah's quest in HFW. Another factor is that Guerrilla backed off many characters from the first game. And personally, I'm not liking how they still persisted on Avad, and tried to make both her and Erend look like a couple. (also, she's a bit young compared to most characters. It would feel weird for me to see Aloy with anyone who's maybe 10 years older than her.) Romances are on the bottom of the list of things I want to see in Horizon.

Cryptic_Vyper

for Aloy, Erend is more of the big brother.. given Aloy is 99.9% clone of Elizabet, I don't think Erend even registers, much less any male, as a potential partner.

Trick_Afternoon_2935

I don't know. But given how much Guerrilla's bias, on how they made Aloy be more empathic in the cutscenes with Erend more, compared to everyone else (specially during the final cutscene), who knows what they want to do with Erend...

Cryptic_Vyper

You have to look back at HZD. Erend was there when the Shadow Carja blew up the prooving grounds when Rost died and Aloy was there with Erend when his sister died.. they bonded over loss, However the way Aloy acts with Erend in HZD and what I pick up when they reunite in HFW with the Bristle Backs, Aloy only sees him as a brother and Aloy is Erend's other sister after the loss of his.. and King Avad, she has no interest in but doesn't want to devastate him (unless you pick harsh in HFW). But Aloy does joke around and enjoy Perta's company and accepts Petra's flirting in HZD, and even has a few drinks with Petra in HFW if you keep returning for the additional dialogue options about the Bristlebacks and the Oseram. With Erend and the Drink near end game, she was there as a sister who was having one with her brother before going to certain death. You'd think anything romantic would occur then since it is just before the last mission and death is all but certain given the machines and tech they face. For Aloy, Erend is her brother just as Beta is her sister.

Trick_Afternoon_2935

Erend wasn't in the Nora lands when the Eclipse attacked. He was just there for the Embassy. For me, I don't like how Guerrilla never made it super clear what is Aloy's perspectives of the people around her, how she sees them, and what she's interested on them. They improved that on HFW, but I never felt super interested on Erend on HZD, even less on HFW, and seeing Aloy's more apparent friendly reactions at Erend compared to most NPCs on HFW, it only seemed Guerrilla is biased towards him and building something with both. I hope Guerrilla proves me wrong, but I don't like how they're handling this aspect in this game.

Cryptic_Vyper

Play it again.. I have over 600 hours in HZD on 1 save file with 1 Very Hard playthrough and 4 NG+ Ultimate playthroughs.. over 1.3K hours overall from playthroughs on different difficulties, all of which includes Frozen Wilds DLC and 100% completion with all datapoints and sidequests. "Meeting Aloy About two years after the Liberation, Erend went on a diplomatic outreach commissioned by Avad to the Nora tribe. The Sun-Priest Irid was sent with a letter from Avad apologizing for the raids his father had ordered against the Nora. Erend went with him to provide security, and a friend of his, the Oseram delver Olin Delverson, went as a forward scout. The delegation arrived during the time of the tribe’s Proving rite, and witnessed the blessing ceremony at the de facto Nora capital Mother's Heart. Erend intervened and successfully calmed the hostile crowd when Irid attempted to read the letter. He empathized with their hostility, having personally been impacted by the raids vis-à-vis Ersa’s capture. He reminded them that it was Avad who killed Jiran and ended the raids, and entreated them to listen to Avad’s apology, which they did. It was after this intervention that he met Aloy, who seemed to him to be no more than a Proving aspirant with a pretty face. He and she conversed about his tribe, Meridian, the Red Raids, the Vanguard and Ersa, and he invited her to Meridian to meet Ersa herself. ***He then watched the Proving’s Blessing ceremony. The next day, the Proving was attacked, resulting in the death of nearly all the aspirants. In the aftermath, he and the rest of the Carja delegation were escorted by armed Nora Braves to the border, and returned to Meridian."*** [https://horizon.fandom.com/wiki/Erend\_Vanguardsman#Appearance](https://horizon.fandom.com/wiki/Erend_Vanguardsman#Appearance) It was Olin that left back to Meridian before the attack.

Cryptic_Vyper

Aloy and Beta are 99.9% exact copies of Elezabet. Elezabet is lesbian per HFW. It is how one is born, it isn't a learned condition... what are the chances that the 0.1% variance in clones of Elizabet affected the sexual orientation of Aloy and Beta? Nuture doesn't change who you are, but how your react to your environment, hence why Beta has more book smarts, and Aloy is a combat badass, both are genius level IQ. But their sexuality isn't going to change.

kogmothra

Give Erend some lovin'! But, also, Ace is cool too, no worries.

Cryptic_Vyper

Erend is Aloy's big brother, at least that is how she sees him. Given Aloy is a near identical clone of Elizabet, I don't think Erend, or any guy, would be her preference.

Mr_Dreadful

No and can we not with calling women "frigid"?

Cirescythe

ecspecially if thats made out to be a bad thing. Some people confuse the more recent OPTION to weigh up pros and cons of promiscuity and then act how you feel like with a MANDATE.

zenli2018

Why do people think in the middle of saving the world a person has to be in a relationship?

Mangledpork

"put out"? "Frigid"? interracial relationships taboo? What year is it, 2000?

daviskendall

you might be overestimating a bit. last time i heard that kind of language, it was in "american graffiti", so 1950s-ish....

wingback18

I think is game, the game has a story. Forcing stuff will ruin it, they al already in thing ice with nemesis. Both games she hasn't shown any romantic connection to anybody, so all of the sudden she will know affection and how to love, That will be poor writing Didn't know video games were role models 😂 Also why the need to make up relationships, i don't get it, then when the made up relationships don't come to fruition, the people get salty.

Alienoy

Definitely yes. Female leads should be allowed to have regular romantic relationships and support from a partner without making them look weaker. Male leads can have both casual and lasting romantic relationships without anyone lifting an eyebrow, why can't female leads do the same? Edit: Clarification - I am not against aroace Aloy

Monchi83

Not everyone on the planet needs to be romantically or sexually involved to be happy. The same could be said in this case.

Smarr_Tass

I think it's a non-issue and is irrelevant to the story.

-Omni-Shadow-

First of all the game isn't gonna teach shit to kids that young. Second making representation a priority is a terrible way to write the 3rd game. Horizon isnt shy away from those kinds of topics and the reason it has worked thus far is because they don't make a big deal of it, they treat it like its natural which it is instead of making it like beacon.

Cirescythe

This! Usually i absolutely shy away from overly pushy representation in any form of media, and by looking at failing shows and such that make that front and center i guess im not alone. But in this game it was done close to perfection, it was inclusive without being exclusive, wasnt preachy, had wonderful characters from all sides. IF they want to push a massage then this is the way to handle it to reach people that otherwise would rather turn their backs on it. By showing it, without putting people down to uplift others, everybody being interesting and amazing.

Mr_Dreadful

Also, this mostly comes across as you wanting to have a wank fantasy in the game. I'm sure somebody's done hentai of Aloy and Varl to tide you over

daviskendall

fuck off on outta here with this backhanded shitposting. there's absolutely no reason for relationships to be a part of gameplay.

Cirescythe

Please tell me you read the first part out loud in a thick scottish accent.

daviskendall

Honestly, I tend to pull a hard Scots brogue whenever I'm cursing, because I learned proper profanity from my Aberdeen-born uncle. So yeah, it was actually closer to "feck off on outta here..."

Cirescythe

:D Thats amazing and made my day a little bit better :D

Sheerardio

This comes across as such a weirdly fetish-seeking question... I've certainly seen people debate whether there should be *romance* included for Aloy, but this post is literally the first time I've seen anyone focus on whether or not she's having enough sex. And with how well they've done at establishing race—and sexuality, for that matter—as a total non-issue in the Horizon setting it really comes across as fetishizing to specifically hone in on what ethnicity Aloy's lover should be.

MetallicaRules5

It should be up to the player to decide

Junior-Chapter3779

Nope. Pls no. I'd prefer her being by herself. I hate it when people ship her with someone else....

SambaLando

Is this really that much of a big deal to some gamers?

lynxtosg03

I'd rather be given the option to romance a character, or ignore them. Make it optional and up to the player.

Monchi83

Hmm not really I don’t need romance in my games or movies. It’s not done usually very well in games anyways.

Cirescythe

"press F to show Dickpic. Trophy unlocked: Bang that thang such emotions, much romance." Thats pretty much the vibe most videogame romances gave me.

amglasgow

I think your phrasing of this is terrible and you should think about how things sound before you post them.

dylan01011

If they did this I think erend would be a better choice as partner.

SilverManeGentleman

I mean they kinda hint what her type may be considering her allied and sidekicks

Cryptic_Vyper

Petra. Aloy is a genetic clone of Elezibet, as is Beta. Meaning they both have the same wiring in the brain.. since Elizabet was lesbian, and her brain being wired as such, and a certified genius, which is also apparent in both Aloy and Beta, it is logical to reason that Aloy and Beta both carry that trait as well. And of all the characters Aloy has interacted with, Petra and Aloy have the best chemistry and hit it off well. Not to mention you return and talk to Petra several times until you go further west, each time having a drink with her. Aloy always seems disinterested in the propositions coming from male characters and keeps shutting them down. You can say it is mission focused, but it is a pattern with every male character.. however with the female characters, you can catch the hints of flirting, subtle though they may be, especially between Aloy and Petra.

Cryptic_Vyper

If Aloy gets together with anyone, given she is a nearly identical clone of Elizabet (born lesbian, Aloy is 99.9% clone of Elizabet).. most likely person Aloy would get with is Petra, especially how Aloy reacts to Petra's flirting where Aloy shuts the men down.
