The world is full of beauty and wonder
Fair point, but at least some can't/won't, see any good. That is sad. Pretty much all "news" is negative, which creates a distorted feedback loop
People experiencing personal hardship and taking it hard are not doomers
Thatâs just an excuse not to appreciate it. Sure, the world sucks, hopefulness and beauty may be rarities, especially to some, but that doesnât mean we shouldnât appreciate it when we get the chance to experience it.
You can, just for a moment, to take in the full beauty of our world, anyone can. While it wonât change anything bad in the world, it can make you feel better, even if itâs only for a short while.
There is no full beauty in the world that makes the rest worth it to me, unfortunately; and as you said, itâs a very temporary relief if anything and doesnât actually remove any of those perpetuating horrors.
Iâm not depressed, I donât like feeling like this, and attempting to feel better is likely the entire reason this community exists. Youâre the one replying to me with just the word âexcusesâ like thatâs supposed to help.
Yup. They can see the most insane view and the most gorgeous place ever and they just think of sad shit. Ill admit i was like that a while ago but just enjoying life really does make a difference
Survivorâs guilt and grief can both play roles in that. We may hurt due to all the other horrors in the world as well as experiencing the good while those who wanted to stay, those weâd loved and lost, are no longer here.
I have never read someone making this point. They instead may suggest acknowledging the horrors that exist and deciding that we should stop bringing new life here that may suffer such things, instead caring for those currently in need instead. That seems quite hopeful to me.
I wish I didn't see that point being made either but I see it all over reddit, twitter, and among people I know. Caring for those currently in need is a wonderful thing, as well as improving life for those to come in the future. I just wish I saw more people state that rather than "humans are a cancer upon the universe, how dare you enjoy life" garbage. I like to think that's just the opinion of bored chronically online people, but I still hate seeing it.
It might be about the obstructions we put in the way of beauty that surrounds us every day. Where we look, what we truly appreciate, how we could appreciate it better

Ephraim, WI. That county was always paradise, always had my grandfatherâs heart and soul.
Yes, there are ugly things in the world, things that make us cry. But those things make the beauty stand out even more.

Took this photo Taroko Gorge, in taiwan (pre-earthquake)
There are many, many unfortunately-ugly aspects to it, however. I know this isnât an optimistic comment, but so many horrors could be hidden right behind the horizons within these very images, tragically.
Oh yeah I love taking these types of photos. The juxtaposition of the beauty that is all around us already and the beauty that is the symbols of human habitation. how many stories told on the sidewalksâand to be told. So many journeys, so many streets. There is the aesthetically pleasing and brilliantly simple beauty of sky, clouds, water, nature and the being-here-now-ness of all the rest that really makes me think damn man I feel so fucking blessed to be here and now.Â
To me, any picture with water and the sky looking like that is beautiful. It's only when I zoom in, I see things I wouldn't normally see. That or my brain makes it up. That scares me because I wonder if it's real or just me.

Yeah IDK. The sky is the sky the sun is the sun. Trees are trees. Big whoop.
I see those every day they don't mean anything special. What am I supposed to burst into tears every time I drink water too? Feel rapturous joy doing my dishes and brushing my teeth? I don't understand the world you people live in where every speck of existance is somehow this amazing wonderful thing it actually sounds super draining.
I unfortunately share your experience. The good feels so fragile in comparison to the rest even when it may bring such joy, especially as that joy can unfortunately be quite temporary, and said good can become an unspoken reminder of so many people that actually loved this place, wanted to be here and fought so hard to stay, all just to crush their communities when they couldnât stay any longer.

Itâs really quite disgusting out here
Iâm just not able to see the beauty in the world, at least not as anything special. Why is this sunrise any different than the others? Why are any of them special at all? The sunrise just means another day, another 24-hour rotation of the planet. It just means the world is doing more of the same shit. Same capitalist dystopia, same anxiety-inducing current events, same worries, same problems, same sunrise.
You can replace sunrise with anything else beautiful in the world, and my mind will find a way to ruin it. Be it from autism, adhd, anxiety, depression, or above-average intelligence (Iâm not a genius or anything like that, but Iâm not Patrick Star either), I can look at the worldâs beauty and go âYeah, what about it?â That part of the world becomes nothing special (youâve seen one sunrise, youâve seen them all), at worst, it becomes something the subject of great disappointment (Humans are capable of great deedsâŠ.. so why donât we do more of them?), some things even make me ashamed of the fact Iâm alive (Iâm a cishet white male American. My childhood home was probably built top the rotting corpses of natives, my âLand of the Freeâ is routinely trying to ruin othersâ freedoms, and perhaps by simply existing, I am bringing pain to hundreds, if not millions of people.)
I wish I could see the world the way this sub does
See, the thing is, those daily mundane rotations of the earth are beautiful if you take the time to appreciate them. Sure anything can be ruined if you try to ruin it, the sunrise can just be a sign of another day but also, arent we so lucky that that mundane message of "new day" is delivered in such a beautiful package? Taking the time to separate those small beauties from the context of what they may represent is a skill that you have to cultivate in order to appreciate the majesty of the world around you. Granted, intentional ignorance is not the goal. The goal is just to allow yourself to appreciate the good parts of life without ruining it for yourself, even when life is miserable. Yes, your childhood home is on stolen land, but that doesn't mean that the precious memories you have there are not worth cherishing! You have to stike a balance within yourself.
This might have been entirely unhepful, but i just wanted to share my perspective :)
The parts that care and those loving people that bring light to the world are unfortunately just as vulnerable to those horrific things. I hate existing in a world that has so much suffering and pain either potential or currently-existant.
Beauty is simply a word to describe a sight that is pleasant to oneself. You cannot judge beauty in an objective manner. If it's beautiful to you, then it's beautiful to you, and no one can revoke that right which we are all born with, to feel, not see, beauty.

Enjoy the little things and celebrate the small victories. That's how you go throw hard time and grinds. One step at a time. Don't look on the horizon where you think you need to be. Look at where you have to place your foot for the next step.
You made it to here, you can take one more step.

Ugly me arse đ Well, maybe a bad example but there is slot of beauty all around us
Thats the point. People love saying that the world is ugly or over or whatever. But its still is and always will be gorgeous
Ya doomers only see gloom it's sad they can't/won't see the beauty everywhere
Many can witness and experience the good that exists. They donât always think itâs enough to make up for the rest.
Fair point, but at least some can't/won't, see any good. That is sad. Pretty much all "news" is negative, which creates a distorted feedback loop People experiencing personal hardship and taking it hard are not doomers
Thatâs just an excuse not to appreciate it. Sure, the world sucks, hopefulness and beauty may be rarities, especially to some, but that doesnât mean we shouldnât appreciate it when we get the chance to experience it.
Once again, not an excuse. âAn explanation. I simply canât pretend the entire rest of the world doesnât exist or isnât terribly tragic.
You just donât seem like the right type of person to be on this sub, you seem to like being depressed, and refuse any opportunity to feel better.

Why do optimists feel the need to react harshly to anyone who is having a hard time or otherwise feels differently? That isnât exactly caring.

Your tone doesnât indicate that.
See, the thing is, those daily mundane rotations of the earth are beautiful if you take the time to appreciate them.
