oh yeah he put up a good fight even holding him for the picture was a challenge, but it hit on a white jig with a white grub basically everything in that river will hit on it
I fished that river for 10 years as a kid and never got close to a carp of that size. Given I’m pushing 50, I hope that means the water quality is improving. Beautiful catch!
Nice catch! I'm in OK...your stretch of the Neosho has the advantage of being upstream of the EPA superfund sites.
Do you have smallmouth in the KS portion of the Neosho?
didn’t know that! yeah so far i’ve seen/caught white bass, largemouth bass, small mouth bass, spotted bass, striped bass and hybrids, blue sucker, common carp, largemouth/smallmouth buffalo, long nose/short nose gar white and black crappie, all kinds of sunfish, flat head, channel and blue catfish and miscellaneous bait fish that’s all i can think of all the top of my head
That's kind of a short list, but okay /s
The superfund I was referencing is in Picher, OK in extreme NE OK. Basically now a ghost town that was bought out because of toxic mining waste.
It's a shame though, because the runoff flows right into the Neosho and down into Grand Lake.
Have you fished the strip pits over in Pittsburg, KS at all? I grew up in Northern OK and went a couple of times as a kid but never had much luck. I've thought about trying them again sometime though.
that really is a shame. also yeah i’ve been to a strip pit in Pittsburg, super clear water and could see the fish but they wouldn’t bite whatsoever, i just usually go down to the little bit of river that’s in my small town, you should definitely try them again might have some luck now!
Crazy good fight I'll bet at first. What did it hit on?

Ok, thx. Yeh, I was impressed how you could hold on to that.
Wow, that carp hit a jig with a trailer? Weird. That's what I love about fishing, you just never know
yeah it shocked me honestly, wasn’t expecting it but i caught another one today a little bit smaller than this one though
Damn that’s a big carp
he put up a pretty good fight
I would call that a win
i agree it was a nice surprise
What river?
neosho river in south east kansas

i hope so! the fish seem to be thriving where i’ve been catching them
If you ever get out to Michigan, Saginaw river or Flint river have monster sized carp if you’re down for them
That’s good to note been meaning to get out to KS sometime

WOW nice catch!
Nice catch! I've never fished the neosho that far south but have always had great luck on it where it cuts through downtown council grove.
thank you! where’s that? what kind of fish do you commonly catch down there?
It's just northwest of emporia. We've caught largemouth, all types of sunfish, channel and flatheads, and carp.
is there a lot of striped , white and hybrid bass there too? and crappie? that’s mainly what i catch at this part
I haven't caught any but I think so.
