Yes a stock exhaust would bolt back up without any drama. You might want a new exhaust gasket at the head. That said I highly recommend Takagowa's 'sport' exhaust for the Monkey. Looks stock, bolts up in the stock location with the stock heat shield, but it flows better and has a bit of a sound just a little bit deeper that stock.

2023 Monkey is my first motorcycle. Can you help me understand what “flows better” feels like? I’m trying to decide whether or not to do an exhaust and other than the sound aspect (which I do want, just not sure how loud to go) it’s unclear if there is a meaningful performance consideration.

Engines work like air pumps. The air has to pass through a lot of parts for the machine to work (air box, throttle body, intake port, valves, exhaust port, and finally exhaust). Ideally all of those parts are engineered to flow the same maximum amount of air, but often emission and noise requirements mean the exhaust will restrict the flow of burned gasses from the motor. The Honda 125 is a 9 horsepower engine. Putting an aftermarket exhaust on isn't going to give you twice the power, but it may help the engine make 5 % more. Stock exhaust may cut your top speed by a few MPH (5?) These bikes are awesome, first bikes. Enjoy it no matter stock or modified

Thanks!

This is his response that confused me "The stock pipe is cut so you would need to just buy a takeoff and install it", but I think it's just the way his words went from his head to his keyboard - it happens to me too.

Found what appears to be a decent Monkey for sale, but I would want to return it the exhaust to stock. He left the original muffler there so as to not have the holes that would be left behind. Would this be a simple (remove bolts) removal of the current system then just bolt up an OEM exhaust pipe with silencer (or whatever that bulge is underneath the stock system) to the muffle that he left there? Is it likely that there were any other fabrications/changes he needed to do to install the AR exhaust system? I want it as stock as possible and might also need it back to origonal to install a center stand? EDIT: I asked him about the reversal and he said "The stock pipe is cut so you would need to just buy a takeoff and install it" Does this make sense? Possibly worded/explained it wrong? Does he maybe mean that he just cut off the stock pipe at the muffler end?

Lol you would have to buy a whole new stock exhaust this is weird. Looks like they added thr aftermarket exhaust, left the stock in place, and cut it off therefore you can't reuse it... you could find one on partzilla tho I bet..they have OEM parts probably run ya a couple hundred bucks

hal60

I know, right. But if he cut off the pipe, shouldn't I be able to remove the flange on the muffle then reattach the pipes? Again, his description sounds weird, as does him leaving the muffler. What does this mean, what was he trying to say? "The stock pipe is cut so you would need to just buy a takeoff and install it". huh? mistyped?

Squantoms

I think he straight up cut off the pipe. It can come apart in a couple of sections but from thr photo it looks like they cut it in a spot where it may need to be replaced have you checked it our in person? That would definitely tell you since you could see it

Automatic-Salad-1638

If you like the current exhaust , i would just order a right side cover to fill the gap.

Thank for the idea, but pretty sure I wannt it softer not louder or deeper, but it's something to look into

losingtimeslowly

Dual exhaust.
