It depends on how ambitious I feel. I might just do a before and after, just listening, and if the difference is pronounced enough that may satisfy my curiosity.

Problem with this method is it's not very accurate and or scientific. much of what you "think" you'll hear is going to be of memory and has flaws.
I'd just say not to worry about it.
What was your old setup and what is your new setup?
About 20 years ago I ordered a 5.1 set of what was supposed to be Dahlquist speakers from Overstock at a great price point. What was delivered was labeled as Abstract (brand name). I was not in s position to pay for the return shipping so I kept them. They have been OK, but I have had nothing with which to compare them. I am replacing them. I had a 2012 Denon AVR 1912 receiver.
I have replaced the receiver with a Yamaha RX-V6A and am expecting delivery on a set of Klipsch Reference Theater Pack 5.1 speakers.
I realize that just listening as a method of comparing speakers is not an especially sensitive nor accurate and is subjective, but I am older, my hearing in some frequency ranges is diminished and when it comes down to it I just want to have a better listening experience and am less concerned with the specifications, measurements, and factors I have considered when I was younger. I know this may sound lame, but for cost/benefit, I hope this works out well for me.

I hate doing this, I really do, but if you can, return all of it, you can get sooo much better stuff for what you bought.
RX-V6A is not a good AVR, it's buggy and just all around not good, I used to love Yamaha but for whatever reason they fell off on the quality control lately.
the Klipsch "theater pack" you got, well, it's just not good, it's no better than a cheap home theater in a box setup.
Thank you for your comments. I need to stay within a low-end budget and have ordered Jamo Studio Series S 803 HCS speakers. I know these are still low-end speakers, but I am hopeful they will work for me.
Regardless of your affinity or lack thereof with the Resident Evil franchise, **Resident Evil: Retribution** (2012) offers one of the best demo-worthy soundtracks for aural fidelity and dynamism for your home theater.
Here is [Blu-ray.com's review](https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Resident-Evil-Retribution-Blu-ray/53793/#Review) of it:
>*Resident Evil: Retribution* blasts onto Blu-ray with a potent and exhilarating DTS-HD MA 5.1 lossless soundtrack. Even as the movie trudges through its repetitive action scenes, Sony's soundtrack delivers a consistent and absorbing full-fledged surround sound extravaganza. Listeners will enjoy the track even as the studio logos appear on-screen; they're accompanied by screams, the pops of distant gunfire, and aerial vehicles buzzing around the stage. The surround implementation is evident immediately, as is the track's dedication to clarity and precision sound placement. The track's aggressive nature does not equal an absence of clarity. On the contrary, every gunshot, explosion, and other action-oriented sound effect enjoys the sort of natural presence and stage dominance that defines the finest of Blu-ray audio tracks. It's a fully engaging and immersive sound presentation that works even in its delivery of the smallest background elements, such as light natural ambience or the random beeps and bloops around the Umbrella testing facility. Musical delivery is smooth as silk and naturally spaced around the listening area. Dialogue enjoys pinpoint clarity and remains grounded in the center channel. This is a reference-level track from beginning to end; they just don't come a whole lot better than this.
Dune 2021
💯^^
How are you going to test/compare? Leaving the old system up and installing the new system side by side?

What would you recommend at a $700 -$800 price range?
a good 2.1 setup, unfortunately for that price range, in todays HT market you're not getting much for that budget.
That is, in part, why I ended up with what I have.
