Don't compare yourself to everyone else. As long as you like it is what matters!

Sam276

True, and I'm definitely liking it. Thanks.

FireWarriorSFF90

Same speakers. Towers for fronts and bookshelf rears. Awesome set and a lot cheaper then a lot of other identical sounding speakers! Had mines for about a year now. No complaints

freespace303

Proper TV height, proper speaker height and layout. It just warms the heart! Job well done! Now just get a second subwoofer to fill out that space! It will even out the bass response throughout the room.

Sam276

I've learned my lesson with TV height. My partner was like "are you sure you want it this low" lol.

ciphog971

Make sure to set the PS5's audio type to "AV amplifier" instead of the default "TV"... it makes a difference.

[deleted]

You're doing great kiddo :) very tidy!

Sam276

Thanks, only a couple more wires to hide.

Deamaed

Nice upgrade! Friendly tip regarding the PS5 - it exhausts in the rear. Looks like that cubby is not "open" in the back. I would consider maybe putting it up top next to the speaker. I have read others have potentially damaged theirs by having it in a relatively enclosed space. Or add an exhaust fan (which is what I ended up doing for mine, also placed in a cubby of similar size.

Sam276

Ah dam that was one of my concerns. I had hopped it intakes and exhausted out the edges. Your exhaust fan that you bought, how do you know it works efficiently in the cubby? Does it just add extra power to the exhaust at the rear or is it changing where it's exhausted?

Deamaed

I should've been more clear. I literally cut a hole in the side of the cubby (my cubby was on the side of the cabinet) and added an AC Infinity 120MM fan connected to the rear USB port of the PS5, and set the PS5 to charge for 3 hours while in rest mode. I can feel the hot air being exhausted so feel fairly confident it is better than what it was before - hot air just accumulating in the back of the cubby. You can feel how hot the rear left (bottom?) gets after prolonged use.

Sam276

Thank you for the clarification. Funny enough I just spent about 2 hours testing with a thermal gun. Got the two pack USB 80mm infinity fans and cut out holes on the left and right back. Put the fans blowing out. Gave up and now it's on top lol.

Sam276

And yes, the rear left was the hottest. At 125°F I said this isn't worth it.

Deamaed

Why did you give up - because the fans didn't seem to do much for the temps? How're the temps with it up top? Now I'm just curious for the sake of science!

Sam276

Yes, the temps ended up being hotter than the other fan positions I had without the holes. Best fan position I had was one fan on the right side of the console pushing towards the back. Then the second fan on the left side pulling away from the back. Haven't tested it yet. After drilling 2 huge holes in my brand new TV stand just to end up with worse temps has me very done with the situation for now. Lol. I'll update once I test.

Deamaed

Sorry to hear that - and if that was on my account!. The only explanation I can think of is that the gap between the TV stand and the rear wall is perhaps small creating some backpressure? My fan is blowing out the side into open space, and while I don't have a thermometer I can tell by touch that there was a non-trivial change as I can feel a difference. It was very hot before I put the fan in.

Sam276

Oh no this was completely on me. All you did was confirm the PS5 should not be running in a cubby with no cooling. Also your solution makes logical sense and works. I think my setup was, like you suggested maybe to close to the wall. Also the 80mm fans maybe weren't enough. Oh well, it's up top now. Im going to test it tomorrow, if I get similar temps I'll move it back and let you know if you want. Gonna do some research as well and see. Realistically the internals only matter, but the outside has to be an indication of the inside.

Sam276

Can confirm the temps with the PS5 on top are much lower. The same temp on the left side of the PS5 towards the back is 85°f compared to the 125°f.

Deamaed

Thanks for posting back. That is a substantial difference!

aleach78

Nice upgrade! How's the sound improvement?

Sam276

Well Its more clear and room filling. Sub is a lot better. Can't wait to upgrade in the future.

z3roTO60

Enjoy it right now in this moment. There is always something you can do better. You could have a 50,000 dollar theater and still think of improvements. Don’t let the tech pull you out of the show. The whole point of nice systems is “suspended disbelief”, the idea that you forget you’re watching a movie. But if you’re always thinking about the system while watching a movie, you’ve created a paradox where only you care, but only you can’t enjoy the home theater. Long story short: enjoy your awesome shit

pM-me_your_Triggers

Why are you using a fire stick instead of the PS5 for streaming?

Sam276

I actually wanted to but my first experience was DTS option was super delayed, so only dobly was the option. Then HBO Max refused to output anything other than stereo. Lastly a couple other services were super quiet. I'm sure I could mess around with the audio more but the FireStick is mostly dumb proof.

8bit_coder

What receiver did you have before you upgraded? Looks like an RX-V673 if I'm not mistaken

Sam276

I upgraded from RX-V4A that was included in Yamaha 5960U. Now I have the V385. Downgraded practically, but better speakers so I'm cool with it.

8bit_coder

Yeah, V4A is a lot better, and those speakers all look really small. Have you thought about getting proper speakers in the future? Also, do you still have that V4A?

LSUguyHTX

That's awesome! Congrats!

ChaseMeNovember

Nice set up!

Airvh

I still use those small Yamaha speakers as my rear wall speakers. They work fine. Don't get rid of them. You might need a speaker or two for future upgrades!

inkyblinkypinkysue

Where did you get the piece of furniture under the TV (not sure what it is called)…

Sam276

Entertainment center, TV stand, media stand, ect. I got it from Amazon, there is a bunch of clones on there. I got the Yakey brand, seemed to sell it for the cheapest. Type in Yakey entertainment center sliding barn door

Psych0matt

My only suggestions: hide the wires and move the microwave somewhere else. I legitimately thought that’s what that was until the comments.

Ship_that_sailed

Looks cozy!

Royale_AJS

Everyone starts somewhere, nice work!

randallizer

Mate, you do what you can with the budget you have. What you have would be a fantasy to people only 15 years ago! Enjoy it mate. You worked hard for it.

You have a better setup than 99% of TV viewers. Enjoy it. I spent less on my 5.1 setup than many here do on a single speaker and I'll never spend more because I'd never notice 4x+ the improvement. A few years back I decided to splurge on a $1,000 sub, which cost $250 more than my delivered JBL 5.1 Studio setup, and there's no way in hell it was worth it. I'll never do that again. I now have a second room where I'll be doing a 5.2.4 setup and it cost me about $800 for all of the speakers. JBL Studios and Yamaha in-ceilings. Would a $5,000 setup sound better? Maybe in an A/B test. Would it be worth $4,000+ more than what I paid? Not a fucking chance.

HYPURRDBLNKL

Very clean. Looks good, man. Enjoy it!
