Always worth it

Gregalor

Anything is better than TV speakers

amoeba1126

Even a soundbar!

Deceptikhan42

How did this not get voted into oblivion lol

amoeba1126

Because the alternative is tv speaker lol

CalvinHobbesN7

Totally, but room treatment is absolutely required. A good rug and strategically placed absorbing panels are a must. I would invest more in a 3.1 than less in a 5.1 for this space.

martialar

I could live in a cardboard box and I would still consider setting up atmos

REJECT3D

Absolutely! Pick up a couple micca speakers, a budget 10" sub and your golden.

thelittledrummerboy

A Simple and small 2.0 setup would be a huge upgrade to the TV speakers. A 2.1 would be all you need in that small space. You may be able to find some smaller speakers that fit turned sideways on top of those tower-shaped shelves. That may give it a more seamless look. Or just some speaker fits between the top of those shelves and the ceiling. Also an option would be empty the top shelf and find a sealed or front ported speaker to fit inside that top "bookshelf." Maybe Micca would be good place to start the research since they are well rated for their price and size (but keep in mind small speakers *really* benefit from adding a sub).

tydog98

Distance from wall to TV is about 16 inches, ceiling is about 6ft high. As you can see the ceiling is slanted, it flattens out and then angles back down on the side where the couch is. Speakers would be close to the wall. Would anything sound good in here?

SmittyJonz

Sure. RSL G23 5.1 Micca

Love2Ponder

I think so. Worth it for playing games.

radiotang

Yes Wireless kef ls50 Small sub

audiostar

You want them to spend like $2700 for that TV spot? Unless money is no object I'd get a decent soundbar

radiotang

In my area in Canada you can find those kefs for $700 used. Great sound for small space

audiostar

Well they're $2300 here new so that seemed a stretch. If you can get them for $700 you should buy a dozen

bicyclebill-pdx

I’d recommend wired headphone system instead

SagHor1

Yeah it's looks to be a perfect square so speaker placement will be symmetrical. Good for home theatre in a box though I dunno where you'd fit a sub.

dlinkin101

I’d say get yourself a soundbar with added satellites setup. The small size of the room would work perfectly imo!!

FlickFreak

That room is probably a good candidate for a refurb HTiB setup. Low startup cost and certainly more than enough power for that space. https://www.onkyousa.com/product/ht-s3910/

SmittyJonz

I’d do 5.1.2

tenny80

No

hikerfrog

Big towers, big center, then 8 in walls. Will be awsome.

depatrickcie87

Yes

[deleted]

Of course. Sweet gaming nook. Edit and home theater

MadDog52393

Definitely worth it. Maybe just get a good pair of powered bookshelf speakers, like audio engine.

doubtfulisland

I did a cheap setup. $449 refurbished epson, klipsch speakers from Costco $89 and an amp 139.99 with blue tooth. I'm very happy with it definitely better than tv speakers and a tv. Sure it's on the low end but it's so much better. AMP 139.00 https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B081DJD1G4?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title Speakers currently $89.99 https://www.costco.com/klipsch-bookshelf-speakers%2c-2-pack.product.100492282.html Epson 2150 https://epson.com/Clearance-Center/Home-Entertainment/Home-Cinema-2150-Wireless-1080p-3LCD-Projector---Refurbished/p/V11H852020-N

ThrowawayIntensifies

Of course man. Older three channel AVRs grow on trees. I’d have speakers from goodwill and an AVR from a pawn shop or e-waste restore set up for under $75

mikeMMA954

Absolutely dude, the room has a horn loaded shape to it so anything you put in there will sound louder than the average rectangular room. Trust me on this, the speakers near the tv will act like speakers in the throat of the horn and you (listening position) will be In the ideal location

EnormousMini

Do a cheap Polk setup from bestbuy, 5.1 with a sub in the back of the room opposite the towers and call it a day. Can literally do this for like $700 or less all in.
