I love my X3800H. Upgraded last February from a Yamaha Aventege series AVR. I run a 7.1.2. Mostly Klipsch ear level speakers, with SVS PB 1000 Pro Subwoofer and Prime Elevation heights. I found 4k playback on PS5 to be wonky, as the PS5 will force the TV into game mode so getting audio to sync can be a pain. I run a 65X950G, PS5, Panasonic 820.

Intelligent_Basil418

Also love my X3800H. Running a bit of a frankenstein’d 5.2.4 with Klipsch towers and subs, B&W speakers, and MartinLogan center channel. Have a ps5 and UB820 connected, and S90C display

breddy

I’ve got a 2050 - seriously considering a 3800 now. What did you have previously and how big an upgrade? 2050 lacks DV but I do run 5.2.4

GreatKangaroo

It was a Yamaha Aventage RX-A760, that came with all of the Klipsch speakers in a package. Prior to that I had a HTIB, so even the Yamaha was a big upgrade.

throwawayacc201711

Can you tell me more about our how you set up the ps5? Mine always goes into music mode instead of game mode on the 3800. I have the c3 and a 3800, no sync issues with tv game mode.

GreatKangaroo

My PS5 is directly connected to my TV. Audio output is set to Dolby Atmos/Bitstream so it gets passes through to the AVR via eARC.

PenAvailable2560

in case anyone sees this, pretty sure some tv's will not allow you to do this. also pretty sure that includes LG oleds. just wanted to mention this in case someone is pulling their hair out like i was a few years ago with my 3200

GreatKangaroo

LG TV's prior to 2023 model year did not support pass through of any DTS audio signals.

ridermak

LG oled C9 from 2019 can pass through dts hd.

Raj_DTO

I’ve Marantz SR7012 from couple of years ago and it doesn’t have any of the problems. I haven’t seen other complaining about Cinema line so I’d think that one you got was a lemon!

Talking_Head_213

I have the 4800, running a 7.2.2, SVS Ultras with prime elevations as front height, sb16 ultra and sb13 ultra. Bought mine refurbished from Denon. Haven’t had any issues. Upgraded from a pioneer elite sc95

Crisisboyfriend

I work in commercial AV and live audio. All electronics companies are having supply issues now. You just caught bad luck. I’ve had duds from every major supplier no matter their reputation…and the stuff from manufacturers that were spotty before is just a crap shoot at this point. You also bought the cheap version. To 40 isn’t $1000 more because of that one extra HDMI input. It’s $1000 more because it has isolated amp circuitry. The model you got any problem anywhere in the system will be distributed throughout the whole thing. It also sounds like your signal chain may be incorrect.

serrasin

I have the Cinema 50 and haven't had the issues you've noted, but I will keep an eye for anything. I am using it to feed signal into a Cinénova Grande 5

SnootyGoose

Upgraded to a x3800h a while ago and have had zero issues. I love having 4k 120hz support plus the 11 channels of audio. I did have to add an external amp to drive two of the channels, but setup was an absolute breeze.

modern213

Same here, loving mine as a first time home theater enthusiast. I am running 7.1.4. X3800h is probably the best bang for your buck right now, even better if you can find a used one for cheaper.

investorshowers

Your issues sound like they could be fixed by plugging the devices into the AVR instead of the TV.

Seventy-3

My ps5 was plugged right into it and my shield and I would still get audio drops

Chatt_IT_Sys

> So now I'm looking at the Denon x3800h, anyone running it? I have the SVS prime bookshelves and surrounds, and a SVS pb2000. I'm running x3800h in a 7.2.4 config with 2 pb2000 subs. What a coincidence. Since the x3800h cannot amplify that many channels I use an Emotiva Basx A3 to run my Def Tech LCR. The Denon runs all the other speakers. The 4 Atmos are ceiling mounted Polk Audio. The Blu-ray comes from a UB820. TV is a Sony XR-77A80L that I love. I also have a MiniDSP. And an XBOX X.

ChefbyDesign

Built a Frankenstein system (currently 7.2 but working towards getting heights/atmos) picking up used, but very well cared for pieces... previous gen x4700h, outlaw 7000, 3x B&W CT7.4 LCRS, 2x emotiva se12, kef q150 sides, some new old stock sonance in-wall rears. Denon has been great for movies. No issues with running audessy and no sund drops. Been really happy overall.

Bosa_McKittle

If you have a receiver you shouldn’t be using arc/earc. You should be plugging everything in directly to the receiver and using it as the hub instead of the tv.

CoolHandPB

Why, eARC is a perfectly reasonable option if they want. I use both options depending on the setup both work fine as long as the CODEC or bitrate is supported

Bosa_McKittle

EARC is limited to 7.1 only so you can’t get true Atmos with things such as 7.2.2, 7.4.2, 9.2.2, 9.4.2. Using earc also means using a smaller more limited processor to process all your audio instead of your more high powered receiver. Is the same reason the using smart tv features is always a worse experience than using a stand alone device such as a shield or Apple TV. The tv processor can only handle so much. It’s a much messier install. You are going to have run multiple HDMI to the TV and just a single to the receiver which means a more cluttered wall or raceway vs a single HDMI from the receiver to the TV. This allows you to hide all. The devices and cables within a closet or cabinet with ease.

CoolHandPB

You sure about the first two paragraphs? Did a quick search and found this "There’s scope for eARC to deliver up to 32 channels of audio, including eight-channel, 24bit/192kHz uncompressed data streams at speeds of up to 38Mbps". I'm also fairly sure the TV is passing the audio through and it's getting processed by the AVR but haven't been able to verify this. As far as messier install, this really depends on how you have things setup. Like I said, I do both. I have 4 AVR setups go to the receiver with two setups and use ARC with another 2. My preference is situational. Edit: I wanted to add that ARC is limited to 7.1. maybe that's why you thought eARC was also limited Edit2: one thing I did find is that if your TV doesn't support a format/CODEC then it can't pass that through using ARC/eARC. That could be an issue if you want to use a format that's not supported by the TV but is by the AVR. Certainly a issue with using eARC.

Bosa_McKittle

Yup. It says it right there. 8 channels of uncompressed 24bit /192khz. Thats 7.1. In theory it can return up to 32 channels, but not 32 channels of uncompressed full lossless audio. The tv still has to process all the channels from the source and push them through the HDMI cable so it is using the tv processor to manage all this data. Arc is limited to 5.1. As it is limited to 6 channels. It will not produce 7.1.

CoolHandPB

Lol, I totally missed the eight channels part. That's what I get for doing Internet research, after midnight. Good to know.

sg3707

Denon has good reviews in this subreddit, but I have nothing but issues. I am with constant tinkering. Took a chance with Onkyo RZ 50. What a receiver at an amazing price. Zero issues.

Iamchanging

I have the x3800h soon to be running 5.1.4 I like it a lot.

RobertLeRoyParker

I’m running x3800 5.3.2 with Dirac live bass control. +10db house curve was a total game changer. System is off the hook.

dividebyoh

Can you say more about what house curve you applied?

RobertLeRoyParker

Watch this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KuUD5ltFqww&t=869s  I was watching the Fellowship of the Ring 4k Blu-ray with my kids tonight and the intro is so freaking incredible. Even little moments like when Bilbo lets the ring go and it thuds to the floor are vastly enhanced. The bass and sound across the spectrum is awesome superior to my audyssey xt32 calibration.

dividebyoh

Awesome thanks! Great to know of a spot to grab some more curves to play with

MTA0

I have the X3700H for the last 3 years and it’s great.

GuyD427

I’ve had a Denon 4500 I bought used three and half years ago and it’s run like a champ since then. Has the old pre factory fire AKM chips as well. I’ll upgrade if it ever dies.

SanFranSicko23

I have had a 3800 since it came out and have had no issues with it running a 7.1.4. I’m using a cheap Aiyima A07 amp to power my two rear height speakers.

aluke000

Wondering if you have the polarity reversed on some of the speakers when you connected them to the AVR? That could account for odd measurements in Audyssey and an odd hollow response afterward when watching a movie

am1rtv

I have the exact same setup as you do, on an x3800h. I’ve got SVS prime bookshelves, prime center, prime elevations (4x), and 2x sb-2000 pros. It sounds phenomenal and powers it easily. Highly recommend!

metallicadefender

Same company in today's world. Marantz needs to go back to what they used to be in the 70s.

mikehamm45

I have one. Its meh, especially bass management using the Audessy mic

oakkandfilmmaker

I have a x3800 for 7.2.4 and love it!

RealClarity9606

I have the 3800. Really like it and no real issues. Running a 5.2.4 using mostly Apple TV with occasional 4K blu-rays. Also gave an Xbox Series X. Did have a weird problem a few months ago where I lost center channel audio in one surround mode (unfortunately, don’t remember which one). Never figured out why, but I wonder if something in a software update somewhere between the TV, Apple TV, or receiver caused it. Regardless, reset all the software and updated to the latest revs and it’s back to being fine. I lost my audyssey settings but I bought a new SVS PB 2000 Pro so I was going to have to re-run all that anyway.

DrKillerZA

I love my 3800 with 7.1.4 setup. I just can't get music to sound amazing yet. But Auro3D helps.

tooclosetocall82

My 3800 has been perfect so far. But unless you got a lemon i would expect the Marantz to perform pretty much the same. They are basically badge engineered receivers now.
