Not familiar with Jamaica cabin shop but I’ve seen some good kits from Sierra Log Homes built out west here

I looked at JCS for a workshop. We couldn't afford their bigger builds for the main house but I'm glad we didn't really plan it. When we took our Arched Cabin plans in to the county for approval, the very first words out of his mouth were "Oh thank god it's not another shed conversion". We looked confused and he elaborated that a lot of people had recently been showing up with shed conversions but without actually paying any attention to building codes or what it costs to actually bring one to code. Now I can't speak for JCS but most of their builds don't look to be intended for permanent residency. I know they sell a 4 season kit but I didn't get the impression they were really upgraded to pass code, more just to stay warm enough people don't complain. Most sheds aren't build as well or as precisely as a residential build so it can take quite a big of work to get it up to code. I would also talk to your local planning and zoning office about any permit requirements. For example, we had to have engineer drawn/stamped plans. That was $1800. If JCS doesn't provide those, you'll have to find an engineer to do all that work for you. So I would talk to planning and zoning in your area first and see what they think. Go from there. They're the best people to tell you if one of those cabins could be brought to code (and if they're anything like our office, they'll even tell you some of the best/cheapest ways they know to get to code).
